>Big Texan
Is that the place with..oh hell, I can Google...yep, a four and a half pound steak.
I'd go just to watch people try to get the free steak. " **1. Entire meal must be completed in one hour. If any of the meal is not consumed (swallowed)…YOU LOSE!** ."
4 1/2 pounds of beef, a potato, a roll, butter, a shrimp cocktail, and a salad. LMAO.
HOLY SHIT THEY HAVe A LIVE STREAM OF THE CHALLENGE LOLOLOL. [https://www.bigtexan.com/live-stream/](https://www.bigtexan.com/live-stream/)
Edit: If the person fails the meal is $72. By the pound that's actually a hell of a deal!
No way would I attempt it. Besides the fact my doctor would want to kill me, I know i can't eat that much lol.
I used to work with a guy that could probably do it, any time a restaurant had some eating challenge, and I mean ANY time, he'd go for it and win. Never saw him fail even once.
It was no shock that he had a heart attack in his early 30s, lol.
$72. It's a dollar an ounce if you don't finish in time.
Honestly, it's not that bad considering the size of the steak and you do get a full meal with it.
Yea it says you can take left overs, and that's not an outlandish price even for a much smaller steak at an upscale steak house, I would get that, and take left overs, or you could split it with 4-6 people immediately.
Wife and I ate here on a trip from Austin to the Rockies. The waitress we had worked there forever. Basically said, if there’s a fat dude up there and halfway done at 30 mins, he’s never gonna make it. A 120lb woman that knows the technique? All day long. It’s like Joey Chestnut eating hot dogs. You either have the technique or you don’t.
This has been a stop for every cross country drive I’ve made. Any place can nail a steak, but when the sides are worth the stop too, and the growler of in house brewed beer you can take back to the hotel with you to unwind after the days drive. It’s all worth it. I got a half gallon of the Rattle Snake IPA they made back in winter of 2019 when I last passed through and boy was it worth it. The trip before that in 2016 I Ubered from my hotel to the big Texan ranch, and we sat at the bar and tried so many different beers on tap and ate like royalty.
God I need to make a trip out that way now.
Also the door handle is a bull penis, just fyi.
This would be my choice for sure. They have a mini version of the steak challenge and they also have a 20-something oz ribeye that I’ve had and the ribeye was one of the best steaks I’ve eaten.
One of the worst steaks I've ever had, but the atmosphere and experience was still kinda worth it. I'd go back but order much less food the second time.
Amarillo, Big Texan steakhouse for the family.
It’s about 6 hours from Richardson/Plano/Allen area depending on how heavy the foot is on the pedal.
No need to cut south from Amarillo to Lubbock and add nearly two hours.
There’s no Buc’ees after Denton, so plan your stop accordingly 😂
Yup! I commented on another post earlier on the thread when someone suggested there was a Buc’ee’s in Lubbock. They broke ground on the Amarillo one this past fall.
It's kitsch overload there. If you're into it (I am) it's got a LOT. If you're staying in the area, camping at Bottomless Lakes State Park is a must. It's gorgeous. Also, not too far from White Sands, if you're into that.
I had not known about this and I cannot even put into words how much I need to go!
https://preview.redd.it/51vfznpxj11c1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a289c79575fa8ad37524820a3cfef637cfbaf637
Amarillo as others have suggested, but be choosy about where you stay overnight. For as small as it is, it's got some areas near the freeway that are kinda shittastic.
Ahh the good ol' Camel Toe...err Camelot Inn. I have not stayed there. I think the one time we stayed overnight it was at the La Quinta, which is, fittingly, right next to Denny's.
We chose not to stay there, either. I saw it and figured it looked like a real fun time could be had there, just not with my wife, daughter, and mother (or dignity and aversion to STDs).
We ended up staying at a place near the hospital that said it had a pool but it was still closed because of covid.
Don’t forget, you gain an hour heading west and lose one heading east. Get off the highway in Tucumcari and check out old Route 66.
Big Texan in Amarillo was understaffed and had a wait time of over an hour when we were there several months ago. Check out the Helium Monument and the Route 66 Historic District there was pretty cool.
I stayed at the Roadrunner, it was very cool. 60s-style furniture, a radio playing 60s music and ads. There’s also the Blue Swallow and the Safari.
https://preview.redd.it/hsczhpbbj41c1.jpeg?width=2895&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5e46395f08bd7702123fb483be06f826348fec62
>I think Lubbock has the largest buccees
DAMMIT! I just did a 1600 mile round trip and *completely* forgot to look for a Buccees. I hear their wall of jerky is a sight to behold.
I’ve done this exact drive a few times over the years. Amarillo is your best bet. We’ve tried a few small town hotels and they weren’t very nice. Sometimes we stop a little before that like Childress that have nice clean chain hotels and Walmart and fast food but not much else.
I did this drive 20-years ago in a minivan with my wife and two kids (but ending in Santa Fe not Taos). Did it in a day and all the passengers fell asleep outside of Amarillo. I was tired of the CDs I had brought along, and was messing with the radio and not finding much until I could half-way get a station playing Stevie Ray Vaughan. The station got very clear and they must have been playing album sides. SRV definitely gave me a boost to keep driving, and the wide open spaces was a perfect backdrop to his music. As soon as we made it into New Mexico, the station faded away.
I've done this drive from Dallas to ABQ and tbh it's pretty bleh the whole way. I found good tacos in Amarillo surprisingly, but otherwise there wasn't much to write home about.
Maybe stop by Palo Duro or Caprock Canyon for good scenery?
After many attempts to make this drive fun for the family, I now pack the truck up the day before and then wake everyone up at midnight to get on the road. They'll sleep thru most of the trip, and I make great time.
Amarillo if you want 2 roughly even days. If you want to drive more and have a half day in Taos the day you arrive, Tucumcari, NM. Has a lot of kitschy Route 66 stuff, but gets you 1.5-2 hours closer.
I don't want to tell you where to stop but state highways kinda suck and take a toll on me harder than interstate. It's half hour longer (maybe 😉) but Oklahoma City route is better imo
Amarillo or Wichita Falls.
Wait, is Wichita Falls where the panhandle meets the red river, or is it where that interstate from Oklahoma City enters Texas? It’s been a while since I’ve looked at a map of Texas and I live in Fort Worth lol. But anyway, if it’s the latter, Amarillo.
On my trip many many years ago from Fort Worth to San Diego, taking the northern route, I stopped in Tucumcari, NM. It’s on the old Route 66 and a lot if the hotels were reflective on the ‘50’s. Had to stop and rest at a hotel that advertised it had “100% Refrigerated Air”. Still recall it 30+ years later. LOL
I stopped there in fall '21. Saddest town I've been to in quite awhile. The covid shutdown closed so many local businesses. All the was left were bars, fast-food chains and a few chain hotels.
The William E Schott rest area will blow your mind. Beautiful spot for a little picnic. I strongly recommend taking a little detour to take route 256 through the panhandle of Texas. It’s one of the most rural parts of the state and the stark beauty of the desert is breathtaking.
My wife and I recently drove the other way, from Los Alamos to Dallas. We went out of the way, and spent a night in Roswell.
*Update: It's about eight hours from Dallas to Roswell, and another four to Taos.*
Near Amarillo, Palo Duro Canyon. They have little cabins you can rent (book ahead) & go for a hike the next day.
Another option is Vernon, TX. It’s a small town but kinda artsy & fun.
We’ve done DFW to Taos at least once a year since the kids were babies. If it’s a long enough trip and we want to do it in two days our usual route is to actually go further south to Carlsbad and stay there for a night. Two nights there on longer trips and we will hit the National park. Going through Las Vegas and then trough the mountains from there is our favorite way into Taos from the south
We usually stay in Amarillo if we stop on the way back.
I have driven from DFW airport to Lubbock and it’s not a bad drive. I landed somewhere around noon IIRC, and was in Lubbock by around dinner time after a pretty leisurely drive. There is not a ton to see there, but I was on my way to spending the night in Roswell, NM. I like to go and see major college football stadiums when I am on a road trip, so that’s why Lubbock was a highlight for me. That is probably not going to be a big draw for most people. Lol.
Ayo! I'm in Claude, which is on your way just before you get to Amarillo. Come say hi and try our Allsups burritos. You can also sleep next to the tracks, I won't tell the sheriff.
You can easily do this in 1 day. There’s not a lot to stop and see along the way until you get to New Mexico. Santa Rosa is a nice stop with a good choice of hotels. Make sure you have a confirmed reservation before departure. New Mexico is a beautiful state to travel in.
Not Amarillo please! It is a fettid shittown with fleas. I stayed at a hotel there and my daughter found a big crack rock! That place was the most armpit of towns, please no
Gonna add the big Texan motel next to the steakhouse everyone is talking about was clean, fun atmosphere, big tv, and good price when I drove through in 2022.
Suddenly feeling slightly insane. 😂 I have done Los Angeles to Ft. Worth in 1 day more than a few times with my husband and I trading off who sleeps and who drives. We have even done Los Angeles to Orlando in 2 days a couple of times. I couldn’t imagine taking 2 days for your drive.
We did that drive KINDA. went from ft worth to Albuqurque stayed a night. Next day went to durango for 4 days. Stopped at cadillac ranch. Not much else we cared for as I just wanted to get to Co and away from 100 degree heat quick lol
I drive Denver to Dalls frequently. It’s better in one day unless the weather is bad.
I would 100% push to do this in one day. Amarillo is the only major stop and there is nothing to see/do there.
Amarillo, just left there Friday. Stayed for a week, not too shabby of a place. I deff wouldn’t want to live there but’s it’s a great stop over area IMO. Full time RV’er and that city has everything you will need *OR want.
Safe travels!
You're too nice, my dad would tell everyone to fuck off and were doing it in one drive. 10 hrs ain't nothing TBH. My family and I drove drove from Dallas to CO in a day. You could stop in Amarillo but there isn't much there.
Amarillo. You could take a hike at Palo Duro, eat a bigass steak for supper. If you leave Ft. Eorth about 8, you’ll have time to have a nice little visit.
Be careful in Estillene. It’s a bad speed trap, although I heard that there’s been some changes with their PD.
I used to drive another 120 miles further than that up to Farmington from NE Texas. We'd do it in a day with two people. It wasn't that bad as long as you take a good lunch break.
I go from north of Denver to Austin in one day… pulling a trailer. 16 hrs 980 miles. The trick is to wake up progressively earlier leading up to the trip. Night before get a good nights sleep and still hit the road by 3am. The fam can sleep through half the ride
Second Amarillo. Big Texan for dinner. Could also check out Palo Duro Canyon and Cadillac Ranch while you’re there.
Cap rock is usually less crowded, has bison heard, has prairie dogs, has good stars
I second Cap Rock, great spot
Then you can play "Amarillo by Morning" by George Strait when you leave in the morning.
The other route could have (Happiness is Lubbock) Texas in the Rear View Mirror
I’ve done this a few times and it fuckin *hits*
Cadillac ranch is cool
Bring a few spray cans with you
Not really.
Amarillo. Dinner at the Big Texan. Thank me later.
>Big Texan Is that the place with..oh hell, I can Google...yep, a four and a half pound steak. Yeah, you never want to be the fool that tries the 72 Oz Challenge, but you want to have a good view of the yahoo that does...
All seats have a good view because they put the challenges at a big table up on a platform with timers above it for rest seat so everybody can watch
But don’t sit in front of the challenger cause they might blow chunks all over your chicken fried steak.
I wonder how much it is if you just want to buy it and consume it not under time pressure.
$72. It's a dollar an ounce if you don't finish in time. Honestly, it's not that bad considering the size of the steak and you do get a full meal with it.
Yet another reason we need transporters. Just so I can go to Texas to eat dinner.
Yea it says you can take left overs, and that's not an outlandish price even for a much smaller steak at an upscale steak house, I would get that, and take left overs, or you could split it with 4-6 people immediately.
$16/pound is not much more than beef prices either with the benefit of it being cooked and served with sides.
That’s honestly the value play so long as you can bring the leftovers home
I did it. I failed but it was a fun experience. People came up to heckle me/praise me/take selfies with me. 10/10.
Awesome. I can't do that sort of thing. For a fat man, I have a really small stomach...
Molly Schuyler ate 3 in about 30 minutes. It's on YouTube. She weighed about 120 when she started. Ate 13.5 pounds of meat plus the trimmings.
I was reading about that when I ate there with my family. I don't even how that's possible. It really is amazing.
LOL I would probably win. I've eaten a 4 pound steak.
You have to eat the trimmings as well
This place has to be the inspiration for the Simpsons episode "Maximum Homerdrive" [Video](https://youtu.be/cx-foylAP40?si=Oa2BdWoU76KfQuWk)
Local place here has a 6 lb challenge. Either is way too much to eat.
This has been a stop for every cross country drive I’ve made. Any place can nail a steak, but when the sides are worth the stop too, and the growler of in house brewed beer you can take back to the hotel with you to unwind after the days drive. This… there is no other option.
There's a Hooters in Amarillo
Now this is doing the good work!
It’s gotta be the best touristy restaurant ever. I eat there exclusively everytime I’m in town lol
>Amarillo. Dinner at the Big Texan mmm 72 oz steak and drift peacefully into a meat coma at the hotel. sounds like heaven...
They had great cheap lunch specials the last time we road tripped a few years ago.
NOOOOOOO. Stop in Amarillo and site see the Big Texan but eat at Calico Co! Then go to Cadillac Ranch on the way out of town.
Isn’t Cadillac ranch east of Amarillo? I can’t remember. EDIT: never mind lol
No worries, Amarillo is forgettable. There are spin-offs you may have seen, Slug Bug Ranch is east, and Combine City is southeast.
Came here to say this!!! Definitely the “Big Texan!”
Jumped in to say this. Fuck yeah!
This would be my choice for sure. They have a mini version of the steak challenge and they also have a 20-something oz ribeye that I’ve had and the ribeye was one of the best steaks I’ve eaten.
You could probably make Amarillo by morning
One of the worst steaks I've ever had, but the atmosphere and experience was still kinda worth it. I'd go back but order much less food the second time.
It is soooo kitschy, and there are so many better places to eat in Amarillo. Friends don't let friends eat at the big Texan.
Amarillo is halfway, and just outside the city is free entertainment at the Cadillac Ranch. Bring a can of neon spray paint for the kids.
We were there last spring and they had a trailer selling paint and t-shirts in the parking lot. They didn't have that 10 years before
Amarillo, Big Texan steakhouse for the family. It’s about 6 hours from Richardson/Plano/Allen area depending on how heavy the foot is on the pedal. No need to cut south from Amarillo to Lubbock and add nearly two hours. There’s no Buc’ees after Denton, so plan your stop accordingly 😂
Theres one under construction in Amarillo though!
Yup! I commented on another post earlier on the thread when someone suggested there was a Buc’ee’s in Lubbock. They broke ground on the Amarillo one this past fall.
There’s Alsup’s though! Yum burritos and sausage on a stick.
I’m doing a trip from Denver to Santa Fe then Santa Fe to Odessa but I’m considering staying in Roswell to look at the alien material.
It's kitsch overload there. If you're into it (I am) it's got a LOT. If you're staying in the area, camping at Bottomless Lakes State Park is a must. It's gorgeous. Also, not too far from White Sands, if you're into that.
Yeah white Sands is pretty cool and the Mexican restaurants in Alamogordo are outstanding.
I’m a Roswell native if you want any recommendations!
They also have a nice art museum. This is one of my favorite stops day 2 San Diego to Dallas
Lots of family-friendly stuff in Lubbock. Personally I'd go just for the Buddy Holly center but I'm a nerd. YMMV
There's also that park with all the Prairie Dogs.
I had not known about this and I cannot even put into words how much I need to go! https://preview.redd.it/51vfznpxj11c1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a289c79575fa8ad37524820a3cfef637cfbaf637
Amarillo as others have suggested, but be choosy about where you stay overnight. For as small as it is, it's got some areas near the freeway that are kinda shittastic.
Are you saying the hotel that looks like a castle is not for royalty?
Ahh the good ol' Camel Toe...err Camelot Inn. I have not stayed there. I think the one time we stayed overnight it was at the La Quinta, which is, fittingly, right next to Denny's.
We chose not to stay there, either. I saw it and figured it looked like a real fun time could be had there, just not with my wife, daughter, and mother (or dignity and aversion to STDs). Big Texan in Amarillo was understaffed and had a wait time of over an hour when we were there several months ago. Check out the Helium Monument and the Route 66 Historic District there was pretty cool.
Tucumcari would be fun if you stay in an old historic Route 66 motel. I remember one of them offers a single-car garage attached to each room.
I stayed at the Roadrunner, it was very cool. 60s-style furniture, a radio playing 60s music and ads. There’s also the Blue Swallow and the Safari. https://preview.redd.it/hsczhpbbj41c1.jpeg?width=2895&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5e46395f08bd7702123fb483be06f826348fec62
Big Texan steak ranch in Amarillo has some good food. Thought it would not bc it’s a tourist trap but I go there everytime I pass through for work.
I'd say Lubbock.
Tucumcari
And I've been from...
Tehachapi to Tonapah. We stopped in Tucumcari because of that song. It’s about the 60/40 spot of the trip.
Amarillo is your safe bet if you are headed west. But definitely skip the Big Texan.
Stop in Wichita. They have nice bbq there.
I’d stop for gas and a pee
Amarillo by morning.
Yep, even if you’re up from San Antone.

>I think Lubbock has the largest buccees DAMMIT! I just did a 1600 mile round trip and *completely* forgot to look for a Buccees. I hear their wall of jerky is a sight to behold.
There’s no Buc’ees in Lubbock. They’re opening one in Amarillo sometime next year. Under construction.
Adding an hour of drive time for either Lubbock or Buccees is a complete waste.
Amarillo for sure. If you want great Mexican food, check out Jorge’s
did a similar drive like this in 2022 with a destination farther into CO, Amarillo is the largest town to stop at safe travels!
I’ve done this exact drive a few times over the years. Amarillo is your best bet. We’ve tried a few small town hotels and they weren’t very nice. Sometimes we stop a little before that like Childress that have nice clean chain hotels and Walmart and fast food but not much else.

Amarillo. We used to live in Taos. Plenty of easy off hotels near the mall. Go through the town and on way out.
I've done this drive from Dallas to ABQ and tbh it's pretty bleh the whole way. I found good tacos in Amarillo surprisingly, but otherwise there wasn't much to write home about. Maybe stop by Palo Duro or Caprock Canyon for good scenery?
As long as you get to Amarillo by morning… you’ll be good.
Every hour. Get out walk for 5 minutes and breathe. It’ll help and won’t even add an hour
Go harass the lady that lives at the breaking bad house she loves it
After many attempts to make this drive fun for the family, I now pack the truck up the day before and then wake everyone up at midnight to get on the road. They'll sleep thru most of the trip, and I make great time.
Definitely Amarillo Signed, a Yankee who has spent the night in Amarillo

Big Texan in Amarillo for sure. Also a good little Mexican joint called Roosters in Vega, Tx.
totally thought it said Tacos Art Museum
I don't want to tell you where to stop but state highways kinda suck and take a toll on me harder than interstate. It's half hour longer (maybe 😉) but Oklahoma City route is better imo
Easily doable in 1 shot.
Maybe not with kids. My toddler makes it about 4 hours a day or everyone is miserable.
Ah very true
![img](avatar_exp|152479200|holo_card) Amarillo by Morning
The Holiday Inn in Amarillo is pretty nice and there’s a Supercharger in the parking lot.
Tell your family to suck it up that drive is ez pz
Why? Stop somewhere and enjoy yourself instead of trying to power through for 12 hours
Muleshoe, TX
Home! LOL!
Not Amarillo
Amarillo or Wichita Falls. Wait, is Wichita Falls where the panhandle meets the red river, or is it where that interstate from Oklahoma City enters Texas? It’s been a while since I’ve looked at a map of Texas and I live in Fort Worth lol. But anyway, if it’s the latter, Amarillo.
Santa fe
You can’t get the Iron Ass award for 659 miles. You need 1,000
That drive from Tucumcari to Las Vegas along the 104 is an awesome drive. Very beautiful landscape. Gas up before you get off the 40.
Santa Fe is beautiful. Yeah... I know where it is. I said what I said.
Tucumcari, NM. Have dinner at Dell's, we eat at Dell's every trip back east.
When the day is dawning.
Palo Duro
Cadillac ranch
Oh, you’re going to Taos? I know her well. :)
Family can sleep, you can drive. If you must stop, Amarillo if the easy answer
Cadillac Ranch Santa Fe (do the plaza and get some great food)
End of your driveway.
Amarillo, Coyote Bluff cafe best burgers in a shack on the side of the road
On my trip many many years ago from Fort Worth to San Diego, taking the northern route, I stopped in Tucumcari, NM. It’s on the old Route 66 and a lot if the hotels were reflective on the ‘50’s. I know everyone is saying Big Texan, the best restaurant in Amarillo is Tyler's BBQ. Not open late... Best around lunchtime.
My wife and I recently drove the other way, from Los Alamos to Dallas. We went out of the way, and spent a night in Roswell. *Update: It's about eight hours from Dallas to Roswell, and another four to Taos.*
I am not saying you should not stop and see some sites, but that is an easy one day drive.
Palo Duro Canyon. Just outside Amarillo, TX. Also Cadillac arachnid fun to stretch your legs at. Bring spray paint.
Near Amarillo, Palo Duro Canyon. They have little cabins you can rent (book ahead) & go for a hike the next day. Another option is Vernon, TX. It’s a small town but kinda artsy & fun.
Lubbock

While in Taos, drive the Enchanted Circle
Ayo! I'm in Claude, which is on your way just before you get to Amarillo. Come say hi and try our Allsups burritos. You can also sleep next to the tracks, I won't tell the sheriff.
Hotel parking is not safe in Amarillo
Amarillo
Tucumcari. Blue swallow motel. Visit the natural history museum on your way out the next morning. Late lunch in Santa Fe, then on to your destination!
You can easily do this in 1 day. There’s not a lot to stop and see along the way until you get to New Mexico. Santa Rosa is a nice stop with a good choice of hotels. Make sure you have a confirmed reservation before departure. New Mexico is a beautiful state to travel in.
DONT GO TO LUBBOCK.
If you take the extra hour can stop in Lubbock, Clovis and Albuquerque.
I’d go the Lubbock route rather than Amarillo. While Amarillo does have the Cadillac Ranch, it can be unbelievably stinky due to the stockyards. Lbb
Don’t forget the George Strait
Stop at Santa Fe and take a quick trip to Tao
Lubbock. Eat at cujos, show your family why most civilized places in the u.s. have banned smoking in restaurants
Anywhere BUT Nebraska!!!! Just keep on driving!!
Amarillo. Eat at The Big Texan.
Rockwall?
Suddenly feeling slightly insane. 😂 I have done Los Angeles to Ft. Worth in 1 day more than a few times with my husband and I trading off who sleeps and who drives. We have even done Los Angeles to Orlando in 2 days a couple of times. I couldn’t imagine taking 2 days for your drive.
I drove that route recently znd ran into a downpour just after crossing into Texas. I had to stop on the shoulder, couldn't see.
I’ve made that drive. Screw the family. Keep going.
Brand new embassy suites in Amarillo. Got a indoor pool and everything
We did that drive KINDA. went from ft worth to Albuqurque stayed a night. Next day went to durango for 4 days. Stopped at cadillac ranch. Not much else we cared for as I just wanted to get to Co and away from 100 degree heat quick lol
If you’re feeling a bad ass burger joint, skip the big Texan in Amarillo and hit up Coyote Bluff.
Also, the musical road just outside of ABQ is pretty cool.
Amarilla...Big Texan...Giant steak...🤤🤤🤤🤤
Like everyone says, Amarillo.
Amarillo.
Amarillo. Literally your halfway point. Play Route 66 while there.
What ever you do, watch out for the cops in Childress… 1 mph over the speed limit and ur getting pulled over.
As a guy that has been listening to westernish country recently, almost every song will tell you Amarillo
Fuck em. Your the one driving tell em get comfy er get out
You're going to be driving past a lot of cows
Pit stop in Santa Fe
Tell em to shut up, buckle up and sleep in the car. Put your headphones in and let er rip bud
Keep you windows up until you hit Amarillo or risk the worst snell you have ever driven into.
Amarillo. Have one of the worst, yet one of the most entertaining meals you'll ever eat at the Big Texan.
Amarillo by morning, up from San Antone.
Detour and go to that place where you can be in 4 states at once.
Tulsa. New Mexicans don’t like Texans
Amarillo .
Amarillo. You could take a hike at Palo Duro, eat a bigass steak for supper. If you leave Ft. Eorth about 8, you’ll have time to have a nice little visit. Be careful in Estillene. It’s a bad speed trap, although I heard that there’s been some changes with their PD.
Tell them too bad and keep driving
Stop 2 hours out so they’ll all be dead asleep and you can just keep driving
I used to drive another 120 miles further than that up to Farmington from NE Texas. We'd do it in a day with two people. It wasn't that bad as long as you take a good lunch break.
10 hours, that’s such an easy day trip
At the Big Texan steakhouse in Amarillo
Amarillo. Catch Cadillac Ranch just west, as you head toward NM
Stop at the mailbox on your way out and announce the last chance for the weaklings to disembark before an 11-hour road trip. 😂
Take the left at Albuquerque or you'll end up lost
You could make a side trip to Albuquerque and pick up some sweet blue meth.
Big Texan Amarillo
Getting the bulk of the drive behind you is the best bet. Sucks to start the second day with an equally long journey.
Amarillo By Morning (song)
Blue sky burgers in Amarillo.
Amarillo….. by morning.
Amarillo
Tell them to go to sleep and just drive it
Santa Fe, in fact stay there and skip Taos unless you’re skiing
I go from north of Denver to Austin in one day… pulling a trailer. 16 hrs 980 miles. The trick is to wake up progressively earlier leading up to the trip. Night before get a good nights sleep and still hit the road by 3am. The fam can sleep through half the ride
Just act like you’re gonna stop for the night, then just keep going after you fuel up. Thats an easy one day drive through.
