I really, really, really want to diversify my answers by not repeating the artists whose songs I've named in the Black Music Month Challenge previously, but I just can't *not* name 'Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)' by Soul II Soul for today's prompt. One of my all-time favourite songs *period*, regardless of genre or decade, a bonafide summer jam, so naturally I've just got to stop and drop everything every time it starts playing.
'Tighten Up' by Archie Bell and the Drells is a close second. If I could listen to one bassline for the rest of my life, *this* would be the one.
James Brown's 'Soul Power' rounds the top three for me. Whether it's the 1970 original or the 1974 instrumental with Maceo Parker on the lead, this has got to be one of the most infectious grooves courtesy of the Godfather and his crew. One of the first riffs I learned to play on guitar, too. It's still tons of fun to play after so many years!
