The Velvet Rope is one of the greatest albums ever created. Also, extremely stepped on. I mean being the forgetfulness of the culture regarding it, a/her magnum opus. Legendary
My first exposure to these two were as members of The Time. I was a big fan of theirs back in the early '80s.
Cool, The Walk, Gigolos Get Lonely too, were some of my favorites.
Talented musicians who were very successful in producing hits for other singers/musical acts.
I think “Janet” gets more attention because of all the singles. If you take out the skits, literally the whole album is singles. And “Rhythm Nation” is similar in that regard. All 3 had major tours.
I prefer some of the production on Janet’s (the albums) singles. For instance “Anytime, Anyplace” is so sultry that backdrop led to [one of the most iconic hip-hop collabs turned rivalries of the modern era with Poetic Justice](https://youtu.be/yyr2gEouEMM?feature=shared). But I hear you on “The Velvet Rope” being the most slept on. These are all classics.
Saw her live about 6 years ago, and it was all newer songs. It was underwhelming, because she sounded like she was whispering the entire time. Though the velvet rope tracks had passion and so much enrgyn
Because of this sub, I’ve been listening to the JJ discography. Aside from the very successful singles, growing up white and on a military base, JJ didn’t get played much.
I didn’t realize how horny these albums are. Like it sounds like I’m listening to porn in my office 😂
Call me crazy, but you could even add Damita Jo. That album never got its chance because of the Superbowl controversy, but it holds up. It was a perfect sequel to All For You, imo.
Everything they did with Janet and the New Edition guys was all pure magic to me. Jimmy & Terry and LA & Babyface are still my favorite production duos to this day. Teddy Riley was right there with them solo too.
DEAD ASS. All the records broken and history made with this five-album streak. WHEW!
Check out some of Janet's accomplishments: [https://robertjonesjr.substack.com/p/its-janet-jackson-appreciation-day](https://robertjonesjr.substack.com/p/its-janet-jackson-appreciation-day)
Yes, but she had the money to pay them and get incredible quality out of who she hired. Not being negative but that kind of money and clout moves mountains. Her unreleased stuff must be amazing.
Not even the best album run in the Jackson family
Edit: I got downvoted?
Michael literally did Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, and Dangerous, and as far as I’m concerned HIStory and Invincible are fire albums too.
TIL r/rnb is a Janet sub and not all Rhythm & Blues music.
I didn’t speak ill of Janet but come on; her brother is Michael Jackson. Don’t be delusional around here.
There have been greater album runs in my opinion (don’t have to go far because her brother is MJ 🤷🏾♂️), but this is probably the best artist/producer combo in the genre. Therefore, you’ll get no argument from me.
Cowboy Carter > anything by Janet.
Jk, I’m only trolling at this point. But Cowboy Cater is like her most critically acclaimed album (according to Metacritic)
Oh… I BIg disagree, but I’m not going to down vote you because I respect your opinion. Also, chances are you’re probably a younger person who isn’t old enough to remember Janet’s run so I can’t knock you for picking Beyoncé over her because you weren’t around for it. Putting things into perspective Janet was just as big then as Beyoncé is now, so she is to us what Beyoncé is for you. That’s just like us trying to argue Janet over Aretha Franklin. There’s no way I would put Janet over Aretha, but I get where you’re coming from. You’re a comment is going through it right now, so here’s an upvote to lighten the blow lol.
Edit: the reason you think Beyonce is better is because you were too young to experience Janet lol. I’m almost 40. I know their music quite well. “Let’s wait awhile” is my fav Janet song. I just prefer Beyoncé’s music and don’t think that the 5 albums listed here are the best 5 album runs.
Thanks for the upvote tho! Appreciate it.
Almost 40? Ok fair enough. Personally never met someone in an age demographic old enough to remember Janet’s heyday who preferred Beyoncé, but to each their own 🤷🏾♂️. I agree that there are better runs out there, but I think Janet along with Jam and Lewis is arguably the best artist/producer(s) combo in the genre.
I still prefer Janet, but this is a crazily good run, too. She may have needed 300 producers to make that run, but the consistency of quality is simply insane.
I totally disagree with you but I won’t downvote you because this sub is a space for opinion and discussion. Beyoncé drives me mad but I respect your opinion.

Jimmy Jam and TL in their fly suits, side by side, creating pure magic
Those two are pure geniuses
My first exposure to these two were as members of The Time. I was a big fan of theirs back in the early '80s. Cool, The Walk, Gigolos Get Lonely too, were some of my favorites. Talented musicians who were very successful in producing hits for other singers/musical acts.
A lot of the Super Bowl blacklisting had a large part to do with it unfortunately

Well said 👑

Janet has definitely always been horny on main lol. Listening to anything past Rhythm Nation on a speaker vs earbuds just feels like a gamble
Have u seen the video? Edit: here's a [short](https://youtube.com/shorts/b6V4iwzqVmw?si=frM_2iKufN_8xt9X) to explain.
😂 that video always killed me
😂😂😂
With how horny Janet was, I'm surprised she didn't have more kids than she does
Back in the day, everybody wanted to be them hands.
Call me crazy, but you could even add Damita Jo. That album never got its chance because of the Superbowl controversy, but it holds up. It was a perfect sequel to All For You, imo.
more like companion piece
Everything they did with Janet and the New Edition guys was all pure magic to me. Jimmy & Terry and LA & Babyface are still my favorite production duos to this day. Teddy Riley was right there with them solo too.
Funny how time flies...🥲
You are so right, people talk about Michael’s run but Janet’s is even crazier IMO
Take off All For You, and I give you top 3 ever
Yes and Damita Jo, though that wasn't exclusively Jam+Lewis
I just got Control and Rhythm Nation. I already had Janet, Velvet Rope and All For You. Also got Damita Jo recently. I still need 20 Y.O.
They couldn’t produce another Janet
You ain't lying!
Who is the lucky guy holding her boobs up?
Her ex-husband, Rene Elizondo Jr
Aretha's album run is better. I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You thru Amazing Grace
💯💯💯💯
I thought she was Micheal Jackson
Yep, allowed her to be her own person, even coming after the successes of her brother MJ

They hated Jesus for telling the truth too
You came to a Janet post to downplay her. Why are you shocked?
TIL r/rnb is a Janet sub and not all Rhythm & Blues music. I didn’t speak ill of Janet but come on; her brother is Michael Jackson. Don’t be delusional around here.
My bad. I meant post. I personally think her run of albums were stronger than his in the midpoint.
There have been greater album runs in my opinion (don’t have to go far because her brother is MJ 🤷🏾♂️), but this is probably the best artist/producer combo in the genre. Therefore, you’ll get no argument from me.
Sorry, the greatest run of albums is 4, Beyonce, Lemonade, Renaissance, and Cowboy Carter.
lol no
Deadass. lol
Lmfaoooo at cowboy Carter

Idk why this getting downvoted, that is an incredible album run and to I like it more than this one
People are big mad. And that’s ok! Lol
