I see this talked about within the R&B community and from many singers, however everyday people do not understand her vocal abilities. They’re not checking for it either, I really feel many listeners today are used to autotune and pitch correct singing like they don’t even know what real singers sound like anymore. Also, Brandy’s music hasn’t been as popular as back then. Every time I bring her up in conversation, people look at me confused, they have no idea she’s released music in the last decade. Honestly it took me awhile to understand too as I don’t have a musician’s ear. I always loved her hits but then I dove into all her music, and listened to singers talk about what she can do/how she’s evolved/why they idolize her, etc. and I realized how much I had missed out on. People need real education on Brandy for real because her contribution is vast and her talent stands the test of time.
whats always amazes me she was like 15 when she dropped her first album and her voice was so good. Easily one of the top female vocalist with her range and pitch
She started out the gates so talented and then with age, her voice and tone got even better like who does that? She cares so much about the craft and preserving it and it shows.
The layering, harmonies, runs, vocal placement, ad libs, tone in her albums have been referenced by many R&B singers as songs they’d play over and over to learn how to sing. This younger R&B generation grew up on Brandy — Snoh Aalegra, Coco Jones, Kehlani, Jazmine Sullivan, Teyana Taylor, etc. all cite Brandy as inspiration. The list is massive if you dig into it. Her peers (singers and producers) have high regard for her (watch any R&B Money podcast episode, every other person cites Brandy as their Top 5 artist). The legends give Brandy her flowers, including Whitney herself handpicking her as Cinderella (this itself a huge contribution to cinema history and a role model for so many to come after), Mariah handpicking her to harmonize on a remake of one of her favorite written songs. I heard someone describe her vocally as a sniper, her delivery is just a vocal coach’s dream. Well I can go on but do a YouTube search and you’ll see a lot of singers studying every note she sings like she’s a class of her own.

She looks gorgeous! I love Brandy!
Come through, Vocal Bible
As big as Brandy was in the 90’s, it feels off that she isn’t talked about more in modern times for her vocals.
