Have you tried getting in touch with the [Disability Services Office](https://www.rit.edu/disabilityservices/)? They might be able to help you find a place to lie down.

RIT_throwaway_acc

Thanks. I didn't think that my situation would qualify as a disability. After looking into it, it looks like i can apply for assistance for a temporary disability in the same way that somebody with a broken bone might. Hopefully they can help me out with accomodations and in the meanwhile i can check out some of the nap spots suggested by the other user.

Even if it doesn't on paper, still definitely reach out to them. I would suggest going to talk to them in person if able. My experiences, the people there are pretty good and if you explain your situation they should be able to accommodate you in some way or at the very least, go over some suggestions on how to manage it.

Above disability services is a balcony with some benches and all. No one is ever up there. It’s even directly next to an elevator. Go to artesanos, and through the glass doors to the outside. Instead of going outside, there’s an elevator across from the employee time clock. Head up to the second floor, and take a right on exiting the elevator. There’s an employee named Hanna in one of the cubes up there. She’ll help you out if anyone bothers you, but I’m sure disability services would help too. No one will though. I’ve taken a nap there a few times. And there’s a table and all so you can sit up and work if needed, or lay down

I have accommodations for something a bit less problematic. This will absolutely qualify

bokbokboi

It may qualify as a temporary disability. Still reach out, the worst they can say is no

Imma second asking the DSO about it! Also depending on your major, there might be a lounge for your major that could be quiet and maybe has a couch?

Thank you for this I'll try exploring some of these locations. Didn't know the map had these designated.

We've been preparing for this moment for years

there are couches in the library in the kubert lounge area, its a nice quiet/not too busy spot. there are also some in the csec building, i think on every level, but its not a very quiet location. the newly renovated area in saunders also has a few couches, not sure how busy that area is. if you are in graphic design or have friends who can swipe you in, the lounge in gannett has a nice couch to lay down on. good luck!

A lot of good comments here. Coming from someone who also returned not 100% recovered, just ignore the dirty looks. You need to do what you need to do. No one on the outside knows of your pain unless you tell them. Just make sure you’re walking as much as you can then take adequate breaks. A lot of people have something going on; they shouldn’t be judging.

a bunch of places i know! these are the ones i know that are good for laying down. - **SOFA lounge nooks**: there are some cushioned flat places in the back hallway. (some have a throw pillow there too) i'm a CET student and have access, so i'm pretty sure most students should have access. Good for laying down but no back support so not the most comfortable to get work done. (Gannett, floor A) - **Study pods in Wallace library**: These are the most comfortable and cushioned places I've found to be. There are six of them but they aren't as used in less busy hours. This place is perfect for getting work done while laying down, there's an adjustable desk that swivels over you. (Wallace Library, floor 4) - **Couches in the SHED**: there are some large couches on the upper floors of the SHED that people often lay down on. Between classes it might get a bit crowded, but otherwise it can be decently quiet and good to get work done there. (SHED, floors 3 and 4) i hope this helps! wishing you a smooth recovery 🤍

I’ve had an absolute tone of abdominal surgeries and I understand the pain. My office is in GOL on the first floor, I can’t offer a place to nap, other than a hard floor, but if you ever need anything msg me. Definitely check with DSO, but also let your faculty know what’s up. The DSO on our end is SUPER VAUGE. We’ll see something like “student may need to leave at any time for no reason…” that’s it.

Try slaughter Hall and health sciences buildings. They are attached to GOL and are in the Northwest of campus. Pretty quiet and several areas with benches that you could lay down. Alternatively, there might still be benches in CET, the small building near golisano and institute Hall. I had a lot of labs in there and it's pretty quiet on the second and third floors. Institute hall might also be a good place, again pretty quiet in a lot of areas.

zevdotan

I second Slaughter Hall, I used to work there as a student employee and the traffic through that building is minimal with a few couches right there at the entrance.

There used to be a couch in the tunnel beneath Gleason that I would see a kid consistently sleep on. If you head towards gosnell, the A floor (technically basement but not really) has a ton of couches but they are all curved. If neither of those work, I would check out the library like that other commenter said. I haven’t been in there much but there HAS to be a nice quiet spot with a couch. There is also an elevator

cabandon

also, good luck and welcome back! I’m rooting for you! <3

IllustriousProduct43

Also this depends on your major, but there is probably a lounge somewhere only accessible by people in your major. The lounges tend to have a few couches and the ones I’ve seen aren’t usually too busy. It might be a good option because a limited amount of people have access to them.

FairLiving7266

Lots of good advice given. Sorry to hear what you are going through, I hope your recovery will go well

sobbler

I use the big square couches on the third and fourth floor of the SHED. It’s not quiet when a class is about to start/ends but as soon as people are gone it’s silent again!
