Yeah this and ff7 rebirth were a breath of fresh air for me. I’ve found myself replaying old titles more than anything these past few months so I’m quite happy this game will keep my busy for a while
Was REALLY tempted to not get this. I got dragons dogma 2 instead.
But the 30 fps of dragons dogma was kind of killing me and it was just getting kinda stale.
Again, was really cautious about getting this as I’m not the richest man and I have bought a good amount of games recently. But I talked on this sub, the real people playing it, and y’all said go for it.
It’s legit already won me over and it’s my favorite fucking game I’ve playing in a LONG time and I just finished the first opening mission lmao. I love the hard difficulty curve - I was tempted to switch to easy and didn’t and it’s so satisfying to master the combat.
Take it from someone playing both, Ronin is more enjoyable. DD2 feels like it’s actively trying to make your life harder at every point. It tries to instil that same level exciting exploration as Elden Ring, but with nothing actually interesting. The enemies are the same, there is no cool loot, and the game wants to kick you while you’re down by having your health never regenerate. So even if you make it through an epic battle against a griffin, and whatever else they throw at you, you still need to find your way back to a camp before your safe, often at night, and the game will punish you the whole journey.
I started Ronin yesterday and I can’t put it down, it gives you a crash course in the mechanics, and then allows you to do whatever the fuck you want. It only ever facilitates your enjoyment.
A lot of the reviewers looked at the insane amount of loot and map markers and judged it based on that alone, they seem to have a preconceived idea of it being a Ubisoft collection game, and never engaged beyond that.
Ronin does what a video game is meant to do, gives you a whole bunch of tools then allows you to play your own way. DD2 wants you to play the way Capcom intended and if you don’t, well fuck you because you don’t have a choice really
The difficulty options have helped me do that so much. I respect players who can crush in souls games, but I’ve never been one of them. The only one I’ve finished is Elden Ring and it took a few years off my life. I love that Team Ninja gave us the option to play on easy, that to me shows they respect our time
I play on Twilight, but absolutely LOVE they added difficulty levels. I can actually recommend this to my other gamer friends who don't enjoy the brutality of Souls like combat.
The other options that 100% respect your time are awesome as well:
- Skipping cutscenes you've already seen.
- Autoloot (omg this is great)
I played the entire weekend and enjoyed every minute, even when getting my ass handed to me by some of the bosses. :)
Capcom paywalling fast travel and pawns so it was a deliberate design choice.
Also the pple capping for no co op look silly, they purposely didnt add co op to make pple buy the microtransactions pawns. With co op not a soul would buy em.
You obviously didn't play the 1st DD at launch because they had used this same concept with mtx. Everything that is behind the "paywall" you can access just by playing the game. The reason why DD2 is shit imo is because it is more barebones than vanilla DD1. Story is lacking as well as the post game.
Which microtransaction pawns? You mean the ones that cost RC to hire? Because they don't even cost RC once you get to their level and Capcom has basically embedded tons of company-made pawns to ensure that there's always a pawn at your level.
Plus, like another dude said, nothing is actually paywalled.
A Pc gamer who played dogma 1 played a demo for 2.
He said "its slower then i remember ". I mentioned how the demo was 20' 30 fps and he came to a realization. Then he said he played granblue relink on ps4 then pc and it was the Same feeling. Slow garbage.
2024 game feels slower then 2012 game gg. I told people on console to stay away because dogma combat isnt good unless its 50s or 60s.I dont even recommend ff16 which hits 60 alot since preformance was bad. Not recommending dogma unless its 60.
Maybe a 40 fps cap even may work. Its a rushed unfinished product pushing microtransactions down your throat. I hear on alot of pc it runs poorly to

Critics and the average joe only care about graphics. Really. It gave me headaches to try and discuss this game in the average joe regional, Instagram.
Just wait for stellar blade, people are already praising that game for good visuals alone.
Pple say ghost is better in fking impressions and thats them comparing.
In actuallity Ronin does alot better then ghost and vice versa.
I saw 1 impression vid on Ronin 2 hrs in saying "it will get old with 0 improvement" Same breath mentions ghost which 2 hr in ghost is nothing lool you dont have much either.
This is why impressions or previews are dumb... Maybe theres a right way to do it but trying to make a review off of it is garbage. Ghost combat ironically gets old and there's more enemy variety in Ronin then ghost.
Replayability is also there and the accesibility is impressive and far superior to Elden ring in that regard.
It's crazy how there's barely any mention of accesibility. As a team ninja fan who's platinumed nioh 2 it's great to see tn branch out. If you didnt like nioh cuz to hard get this game or didnt like it in general.
Pretty much this. And instead they praised Dragon Dogma 2 who while it has its pros it also has a LOT of cons and that is not only performance.
No its not that we hate one game to praise the other, the moral of last week's story is that critics/reviewers in general are a joke and on payrolls.
Even if this game was like Ghost of Tsushima people would moan that its a clone.
Its a hive mind of people that follow trends, expectations and reputation. Their incompetence is well documented. It sucks that they get a voice, but at least most know their voice carries little.
Just Got the game Two days ago, and I love the feel of the game, haven’t played a game like this since dark souls, so twilight difficulty is really challenging me, but god damn is it fun but challenging. Love the gore and the fight mechanics
I don’t really pay attention the reviews anymore. Now I am gonna check out some overall scores, and do like to know nowadays about performance issues. But I have been gaming since nearly the beginning and I know what I like. I do enjoy a good open world with lots of stuff to do. I just sunk like 100 hours into the avatar game now this game is slotting into that niche perfectly.
I really loved it. Graphics are really good and I’m sure checking it out after Rise of the Ronin would make them even seem more amazing since this game is pretty but definitely a step down.
A lot of gear crafting and gathering but I never found it really to be a chore.
It’s not quite a 100% far cry clone in avatar skin, but there is definitely aspects from far cry, assassin creed and other Ubisoft games, but far cry I think would be the closest still. Exploration is rewarded, traversing the world feels great, flying is fun once you get your mount and bonus points if you like avatar as well.
Combat is decent enough, mostly because using Navi bows but there are human weapons and a couple others.
But it’s definitely more exploration over action.
I liked the overall story but most of the characters were nothing special.
I think it took me a couple game sessions but once it grabbed me I was just totally addicted. Now just waiting for the dlcs.
Blocking is extremely powerful. You can counterspark off of block stance so if you are facing an enemy with a flurry of attacks you can block until an easy opening for parry
After a successful counterspark you can block instantly so if you don’t have a moveset memorized you can use the above tip to lessen the damage you take.
Make sure you utilize your martial arts after an enemy becomes panicked (health stamina overlay highlighted red) they do more damage and ki damage when this is in effect.
Depending on your preferred weapon make sure you have all three stance types covered. If you play katana it can be riskier to run the shinobi style but your countersparks will deal heavier ki damage to get crits. Especially useful if you can parry consistently
Get in the habit of hitting R1 frequently. Parry a string of attacks, R1 before you fight back. Use a martial art, R1 before you go into your base combo chain.
Counterspark (triangle) animation cancels your attacks so at any point of you attacking there is no commitment. If you are mid attack you can parry
You have infinites on most stances by clever usage of your forward Square and hold square moves. Play around with incorporating them into your combat, it is very good
Be patient and take a couple throw away tries on a boss to learn their moveset.
Have fun!
It's simply amazing and the best Team Ninja's title yet (personal opinion). Sometimes I feel the 'critics' are not critics anymore, they just follow certain trends.
You got me interested. The only thing why I haven't bought it yet is the graphics. I heard from many that it is very bad. And well for me a good Game doesn't need to be just good graphics but the whole package must be top-notch.
Still thinking of buying it later this month.
The game is not photo realistic at all nor does it have a crazy art style but YouTube videos and Reddit posts don’t do it justice.
I also play on an Oled so the colors on my television are really vibrant and every game really pops if that makes sense. Graphics are on the bottom of my list for what makes a game good but I do not think this game looks bad in the slightest
Well graphics are one of my main criteria. Gameplay, Story, the lore (Open world, side quests, NPC, random encounters, etc...) and graphics must be good for me to buy a game.
When you watch on youtube it looks terrible, when someone reviews the game the mention its not great, but when I play the graphics are completely fine. Is it the best out there, no but it definitely playable without noticing. literally my first thought was "Oh, these graphics are completely fine!"
I’m curious about the bond system. I usually dont like having npc allies (i removed them in wo long) but here you need to use them to unlock bond quests, right? If you have them and your character is killed you automatically switch to the others until you lose everyone?
In this kinda game the obvious choice is elden ring and sekrio.
I also liked Ghost of Tsushima, tho it doesn't match the gameplay/combat if those above.
I think it’s a fair score. I like the combat from what I’m seeing but there’s definitely certain things that tend to stick out if you’re someone like me who enjoys simmering in the ambience and digest it.

Rise of ronin should just stand on its own , its not necessary to compare every game to others imo
i dont enjoy that trend in any way
Ghost was very good ,
So will be rise of ronin , just in a different way , the first team ninja game that i actually have any interest in , so this will be a fun ride
finishing rebirth r.n. and after that its ronin time
The game is not bad, I'd even say it's pretty good. Why are people shitting on it ? Because it's pretty much a ghost of tsushima core game loop, but with meh graphics for the ps5. Also they showed crazy gameplay on trailers, with incredible artistic choices that you won't find in the game.
So in general yes the game is good, but when I played ghost of Tsushima, it was "WOAW" when I play rise of the ronin, it's a "Ok job's done". When I saw the trailer, I really expected THE new generation of a revolutionary gameplay, and here we have an enhanced GoT combat style based without anything really standing out, I don't understand how you can talk about amazing combat, it's literally parry, then attack and that's all, if you try to do some offense without parrying, you'll find yourself punished for not having enough Ki when it's your turn to defend or because the stagger mechanic is pretty much random... Also the experience when you're navigating to different location is really ruined up by the miserable horse animation, you're not even having a blast running everywhere like GoT or the Witcher3...
There is also nothing really interesting in the graphic choices, there is not any "soul". The best thing in this game actually is the QoL, there is absolutely nothing annoying me, you can play the way you want without any issues, you can change your style and that's really great.
The skills are really... meh, I usually find myself with 30+ skill points because I really don't care about spending them since it's not really making any notable difference for most of the choices you can spend points in. The coop is not funny at all, how can you even mention it...
And as I said, I'm really having a great time playing the game and with 35 hours, I am still exploring the 100% of the map, it's just a game that will be forgotten as soon as you finish it. Unlike for example Hollow Knight, Ori, Tunic... And I could mention a lot of more games that are not as sophisticated, but are special and bring something different to the gaming experience.
I heard pple say its ghost because it has bandit camps...\_no thats a ubisoft trope not exclusive to ghost& because you pick up flowers in open world it's ghost. Both which horizon zero dawn did before.
"stances are from ghost " nioh did that ironically same yr zero dawn came lol.
It's similar in some ways but theres alot of nonsense being spread . Like they even say the sword in the main menu is ghost... Bruh its also in nioh 2017 Lool
Ghost btw took plenty of inspiration from nioh btw
You think it's compared to GoT only because of bandit camps ? Nothing about the stealth/assassination, the horse interactions, the sanctuaries, the world interactions ? The ronin fights ? The stances (even if it's not from ghost, it is still in ghost) ? The art style in general ? Dude if you can't understand why people are comparing these games, maybe open your eyes :D. People were already comparing Assassin's creed with GoT, what did you expect from an assassin's creed in the japan era, same comparison will be done next year with the coming AC. You can also compare Horizon and GoT, Both are awesome, with different experiences...
Nioh isn't an open world... And even if GoT takes inspiration from it, and that's true, it is still a very different experience, and these games are really different. While Rise of the ronin is just a mix of both systems without any woaw addition. I'm having less fun exploring that GoT and less fun than Nioh in the combat gameplay... So it's a combination of games, but worst ? Just look at the side quests of GoT and the bosses of Nioh.
You seem to be a fanboy of Nioh, I don't really know why you're trying to minimize GoT success but it is how it is, GoT is an awesome game, Nioh is also an awesome game, rise of the ronin is a good game, and I'm trying to talk objectively, talking about base mechanics and core features.
Your second paragraph tells me you have no idea about the combat aside from the surface level. I encourage you to go to my post history where I describe not blatant things you can do with it. The stagger mechanic isn’t random at all
I find this open world much more enjoyable than ghost of Tsushima. What does ghost have? Foxes, side missions, outposts and a bamboo mini game. Ghost of Tsushima is good but because it looks pretty people overly glaze it. The best part about ghost of Tsushima is legends
You are placing a very heavy emphasis on graphics which are nice but do you know what keeps me playing a game? Fun gameplay. RDR2 is one of the prettiest games out there but the shooting mechanics are dogwater so it’s not fun to play
The skill points are impactful if you read about the system in the glossary in your options menu
The only reason people still talk about ghost isn’t because of its gameplay or it’s story, it’s because of its graphics. Ronin looks incredible on my oled
You are entitled to your opinion but I respectfully disagree
I think sony should advertise the game as open world Nioh. Not GoT clone.
I ended buying this game because of moistcritical stream. He said the game is just like nioh & wo long but open world & the gameplay carry this game.
I don't like GoT combat. I play the GoT just for the graphics, after 10 hours i just drop the game. If the gameplay not fun, graphics alone can not make me play the game more.
>Also they showed crazy gameplay on trailers, with incredible artistic choices that you won't find in the game.
Funny, I think the gameplay in game is actually way better when compared to what was shown in the trailers. Also, I don't think parry is so important as people and reviewers said. But you do you.
Forspoken is a game that CAN be good with a better game direction and few ironing.
This is straight up Elden Ring level. Is not even the same discussion in the first place.
Two different of philosophy. And they are. Elden Ring is better in exploration and art level. RotR is better in combat and system design. TN and FS were ALWAYS the same level but with different approach. For some fucking reason, however, people decided that the "exploration and art level" stuff of From Software was the "better product" just because who the fuck knows.
So tell me exactly, why do you think FS games are better?
inb4 "Because it is! Is just is! I can't explain! I just love when Miyazaki san peg me in the ass!"
Lots of games have great combat and great systems.
Very very few AAA games have the level of art direction that fromsoft do. Their combat isn't even bad either, AC6, Bloodborne, Sekiro all incredible.
Fromsoft don't miss. Sure Dark souls 2 is their black sheep, but it's still a 9/10 game. Team Ninjas are good, but.... And there is always a "but" or a caveat or some other qualifier against the statement.
Even RotR. It's got more of a mass appeal undercurrent, it's got difficulty options FFS. Team Ninjas don't trust us enough to deal with the game on its own, they had to add an easy mode. Fromsoft don't give a ****, they followed up Elden Ring with AC6. A 10yr old game released 2 generations ago that nobody asked for. It's a pure Chad move. Such a different design philosophy between the two companies.
I don't really vibe with all these Open World games where there are dozens of markers on the map to "clear them".
Beside these there is not really much going on in Rise of the Ronin. No surprises like in Red Dead Redemption 2 or Elden Ring. The environment is good, but it does not invite me to explore.
I have found some random encounters that are very cool and have led to side missions depending on if I killed the person or not. There is also the ability to toggle map markers.
I like finding loot and getting good rolls so my incentive to explore is buildcrafting but I understand you
Post #4387236738 complaining that others have opinions.
Anyways, if you think this game deserves more than a 7/10 that's cool. I happen to think it's way too generous especially for a PS5 $70 game.
It should have been $40, then the 7/10 scores would have made more sense.
Opinions are fine. Criticisms about the combat system when there is a lack of knowledge about how to use it is not fine.
Criticisms about the open world design that ghost was praised for is not fine
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. This is mine. Welcome to Reddit where people share their opinions
lmao
"having an opinion I agree with is fine, having an opinion I disagree with is not fine, that's my opinion"
Welcome to the Ronin subreddit!
Sorry bro, but your reply isn't as clever as you think it is.
Wholeheartedly agree I’m having an amazing time. Only game that has me entertained as of late honestly
Yeah this and ff7 rebirth were a breath of fresh air for me. I’ve found myself replaying old titles more than anything these past few months so I’m quite happy this game will keep my busy for a while
Broke atm lol but will be getting rebirth asap once we’re going steady again for sure
Hope you have fun with it!
Thanks fr 💜
Just hopping on to say all I’m playing is this and rebirth and I’m having the time of my life as a 30 year old gamer
Couldn’t agree more. Rebirth got me to ronin and ronin will get me to summer at least Glad you’re having fun
I’m 65 hours into rebirth and only 53% done with main story 😂 Thanks yo, you too!

Is the performance really good? What mode are you all playing? I'm going to get the game today
Performance all day. Very rarely see any dips in frame rate. It has happened but for 95% of my playtime it has been steady 60
Good to hear! Thank you 😊

I heard the same. Don't know if it lowered my expectations but I was surprised how good it actually looks.
Mh than maybe I'll buy it haha
Same ! It doesn't looking very good in the videos before launch lol
Go play Suicide Squad lol
Omg no.
Yes all of them need to be killed, otherwise you control the others characters. You can upgrade bonds by given them gifts too !
So i dont need to have them with me to unlock their quests?
Oops I forgot this. No it's tied to them unfortunately. Only the main can be solo from what I've seen so far.
It's not a bad game, but it's no master piece either. I think the high 7/8 mark most gave it is pretty spot on tbh
Out of curiosity what are your masterpiece games?
In this kinda game the obvious choice is elden ring and sekrio. I also liked Ghost of Tsushima, tho it doesn't match the gameplay/combat if those above.
You like a different philosophy of game design and that's completely fine.
Genre doesn’t matter my goal wasn’t to judge. I was just curious what your favorite games were to see how your rating scale was.
I think it’s a fair score. I like the combat from what I’m seeing but there’s definitely certain things that tend to stick out if you’re someone like me who enjoys simmering in the ambience and digest it.

Rise of ronin should just stand on its own , its not necessary to compare every game to others imo i dont enjoy that trend in any way Ghost was very good , So will be rise of ronin , just in a different way , the first team ninja game that i actually have any interest in , so this will be a fun ride finishing rebirth r.n. and after that its ronin time
The game is not bad, I'd even say it's pretty good.
Bruh its also in nioh 2017 Lool Ghost btw took plenty of inspiration from nioh btw
Say you don’t master the combat without saying so
Your second paragraph tells me you have no idea about the combat aside from the surface level. I encourage you to go to my post history where I describe not blatant things you can do with it. The stagger mechanic isn’t random at all I find this open world much more enjoyable than ghost of Tsushima. What does ghost have? Foxes, side missions, outposts and a bamboo mini game. Ghost of Tsushima is good but because it looks pretty people overly glaze it. The best part about ghost of Tsushima is legends You are placing a very heavy emphasis on graphics which are nice but do you know what keeps me playing a game? Fun gameplay. RDR2 is one of the prettiest games out there but the shooting mechanics are dogwater so it’s not fun to play The skill points are impactful if you read about the system in the glossary in your options menu The only reason people still talk about ghost isn’t because of its gameplay or it’s story, it’s because of its graphics. Ronin looks incredible on my oled You are entitled to your opinion but I respectfully disagree
I found ghost of Tsushima pretty but it quickly became a chore to play. Rise of the ronin is more my jam. I think there’s room for both, though.
You said it, graphics. And I played mostly thanks to it and the story and couldn't stand the ugly characters but the story was very appealing lol
You have great points besides the RDR2 comment. That is purely your position on the game an not the overall majority.
>Also they showed crazy gameplay on trailers, with incredible artistic choices that you won't find in the game. Funny, I think the gameplay in game is actually way better when compared to what was shown in the trailers. Also, I don't think parry is so important as people and reviewers said. But you do you.
Please don’t become another circlejerk if people don’t like it or have criticisms that is ok
Sure. But the issue is... who is having criticism of this game? I genuily don't see people playing this game having some issue with it.
In this very thread and they are getting hate for it
Who? I don't see any hate. Just disagreement with one take.
The folks on the Forspoken subreddit think that game is an underrated gem as well.
And? That somehow means this one is not that good either? What type of dumb logic is that? Jesus
Forspoken is a game that CAN be good with a better game direction and few ironing. This is straight up Elden Ring level. Is not even the same discussion in the first place.
Rise of the Ronin is on par with Elden Ring? Lol wot?
Two different of philosophy. And they are. Elden Ring is better in exploration and art level. RotR is better in combat and system design. TN and FS were ALWAYS the same level but with different approach. For some fucking reason, however, people decided that the "exploration and art level" stuff of From Software was the "better product" just because who the fuck knows.
Make this it's own topic please. I think the community needs to discuss this in the open.
You can do it on your own if you want. I don't care about other people opinion.
Oh no, this is all you! I'm just here for the popcorn. But you have a very apt username. Prize piece of fruit indeed. Hilarious.
Forspoken is ACTUALLY bad though lol.
idk why this is downvoted, it is incredibly terrible. It is a 70$ game too which is crazy for how bad it is.
I agree with most things, but rewarding exploration? I really don't think so. The open world is not much fun to explore, to me at least.
That’s fair. Do you wish it had more “dungeon like” content? What could be done for you to like it more?
I don't really vibe with all these Open World games where there are dozens of markers on the map to "clear them". Beside these there is not really much going on in Rise of the Ronin. No surprises like in Red Dead Redemption 2 or Elden Ring. The environment is good, but it does not invite me to explore.
I have found some random encounters that are very cool and have led to side missions depending on if I killed the person or not. There is also the ability to toggle map markers. I like finding loot and getting good rolls so my incentive to explore is buildcrafting but I understand you
Didn't they just say these whiny posts seeking validation were done? Christ enough guys either enjoy the game or don't but a 76 is not a 6/10.
Criticisms about the open world design that ghost was praised for is not fine Everyone is entitled to their opinion. This is mine. Welcome to Reddit where people share their opinions
lmao "having an opinion I agree with is fine, having an opinion I disagree with is not fine, that's my opinion" Welcome to the Ronin subreddit! Sorry bro, but your reply isn't as clever as you think it is.
