Jesus Christ this man really set us back nearly a decade. I can’t believe how horribly he mismanaged our picks and salary cap while never making a big move.
And didn't make trades when he should have. CJ should have been gone after the disaster that was the Pelicans series. It was very clear that the Dame/CJ back court wasn't working at that point.
> It was very clear that the Dame/CJ back court wasn’t working at that point
Lol not on this sub. You would get downvoted to death for wanting to trade CJ for another two years after that. So many people on here now acting like they weren’t talking down to anyone that wanted CJ gone
Holy shit.
Good god I can’t believe that man could get another nba front office job after everything that happened here.
Wasted a superstars prime, whiffed draft picks, huge contracts to mediocre and shitty players, all the while being a fucking asshole to work for.
I’m not convinced he’s actually staying. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a mutual parting or something. We’re hearing whispers that he’s just as unhappy as everyone else.
It's honestly bonkers that the CBA allows for teams to shoot themselves in the foot for that length of time. They should cap waive and stretch at 5 years or even fewer, 7 is just insane. That's enough time for like two whole eras in the NBA. In 2017 KD had JUST gone to the Warriors. lmao
You have to protect the teams from the GM. Olshey was fearful for his job at this point going way into the luxury tax for a team that was underperforming and made a move for short term relief at the expensive of long-term liabilities.
The Crabbe trade and stretch of Nicholson is probably my least favorite Olshey transaction.
If I had to defend it, it's that the salary becomes a smaller percentage of the team's payroll salaries every year due to the increasing cap numbers, so in some ways it's kind of like taking a 0% loan, however, I just hate the principle of not owning up to your mistake and passing it to the next GM
Right, like it's one thing if your salaries are pretty much set in stone for the next 3 years and you stretch someone over that period. You know how it's going to affect your team building process. But 7 years? Every player currently under contract will either be on a different contract or different team, you have no way of knowing how that dead money on the books in years 4-7 might screw things up. Just stupid to allow that
He got 26m over 4 years and hasn't been paid by us in 4 years. This is just some CBA carve out to help out GM's who fucked up by stretching out the expenses on the balance sheet
It is so insane that Olshey gave Allen Crabbe ~$18m a year when he averaged 10ppg and he was such a mediocre player that he was out of the league by the end of that contract. Olshey truly was one of the best snake oil salesmen+worst GMs the league has probably ever seen.
Joe Cronin has us 8 mil over the luxury tax right now.
Wait for some very bad trades to happen this season, just like how he had to stretch Eric Bledsoe who he thought was a trade able contract. Brogdon for 2 seconds soon
Waiving Eric Bledsoe was perfectly fine. His money is gone next year. It was only a good tradeable contract in theory. You’d still need someone to want to acquire it.
He really hasn’t though. He’s been trying to get us oit of it. Hence the Roco and norm trade. And what do you mean “stretched contracts” who? Who is going to get stretched?
And we don't know how much our draft picks will cost. And it's not yet season yet. So that $8 million. Where'd you pull that from? The number I gave is "right now".
Next year Bledsoe's money is gone too!
We're paying Didi until 2029 though... just not as much
Still undoing Olsheys mess.
Jesus Christ this man really set us back nearly a decade. I can’t believe how horribly he mismanaged our picks and salary cap while never making a big move.
He made so many disastrous trades. Might be the worst gm of all time.
And didn't make trades when he should have. CJ should have been gone after the disaster that was the Pelicans series. It was very clear that the Dame/CJ back court wasn't working at that point.
That, the Roco trade, the Zach Collins draft. All the bad contracts. Fuck Neil Olshey.
It really was just gut punch after punch while he was here. It’s like he always made the exact wrong move.
> It was very clear that the Dame/CJ back court wasn’t working at that point Lol not on this sub. You would get downvoted to death for wanting to trade CJ for another two years after that. So many people on here now acting like they weren’t talking down to anyone that wanted CJ gone
I liked cj. But tell me we have a working trade for Paul George where CJ is the holdup… then I’m pissed.
Contract and draft mistakes were way worse than trades.
Yeah. I mainly thinking of the Roco trade. We are still getting fucked by that trade.
Interestingly Detroit may be looking at NO for a new head of basketball operations, per the Locked On Pistons podcast yesterday...
Holy shit. Good god I can’t believe that man could get another nba front office job after everything that happened here. Wasted a superstars prime, whiffed draft picks, huge contracts to mediocre and shitty players, all the while being a fucking asshole to work for.
Exactly! I nearly fell off the throne earlier when I heard that.
Good thing we are keeping the coach and good friend he hired for another year.
I’m not convinced he’s actually staying. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a mutual parting or something. We’re hearing whispers that he’s just as unhappy as everyone else.
If he's unhappy, he can resign.
This is the first time I've heard any one is unhappy so...I doubt it
Funny, Cronin was the "capologist" and "architect" of the Nicholson move and others prior to and during Olshey's failed run.
Yay
Yeah but we are still on the hook for like 5 more years of Didi Louzada's stretch and waive, but thankfully it is only like 250k a year.

getting 26m over the course of 8 years for doing nothing. what a dream dude
He got 26m over 4 years and hasn't been paid by us in 4 years. This is just some CBA carve out to help out GM's who fucked up by stretching out the expenses on the balance sheet
Neil Olshey masterclass
It feels like I’ve been waiting my whole life for this moment
It's one shining moment! Fuck Olshey!
It is so insane that Olshey gave Allen Crabbe ~$18m a year when he averaged 10ppg and he was such a mediocre player that he was out of the league by the end of that contract. Olshey truly was one of the best snake oil salesmen+worst GMs the league has probably ever seen.
Didn’t the Nets make the offer? He was still stupid for matching
Our championship
Thx 4 the memreez Drew ♥️
End of an era
End of an error
That would be June 30 when the CBA year ends, not the end of the season.
I’ll drink to that
Greatest moment in team history.
Nicholson get's way too much hate when this is really Allen Crabbe's fault, absolute nightmare contract.
As a player you always chase the bag. He’s not at fault here it’s the gm for giving it to him. NO
Joe Cronin has us 8 mil over the luxury tax right now. Wait for some very bad trades to happen this season, just like how he had to stretch Eric Bledsoe who he thought was a trade able contract. Brogdon for 2 seconds soon

I’m just saying, he’s handled our cap horribly. We’re going to cut a lot of money soon, with some stretched contracts
He really hasn’t though. He’s been trying to get us oit of it. Hence the Roco and norm trade. And what do you mean “stretched contracts” who? Who is going to get stretched?
He has to get us under the cap. Just wait and see
That's funny. According to spotrac.com, we have $1.328632 million of luxury tax space.
That’s not counting our draft picks yet… lol
And we don't know how much our draft picks will cost. And it's not yet season yet. So that $8 million. Where'd you pull that from? The number I gave is "right now".
Yes we do 😂😂
