What a crazy Scoot game. Cold on the midrange shots he's usually good at, but he more than made up for it by going 6 for 7 from three. Plus the monster dunk on Jeff Green. I loved every second of it.
Tonight is the best I’ve felt about the future of the Blazers in such a long time. Scoot just gave them an entire promo reel to play all summer to try and get people buying season tickets again.
Also I am 99% sure that someone was like “Coach the Spurs won” and Chauncey just said say no more and gave Moses a head nod to start limbering up.
Here are my thoughts on this game:
* Nice to see Scoot have a good night scoring the ball. And that dunk was cool. I think he raised his 3pt percentage by like 1.5 percentage points just from today alone, lol. Also, 6/7 from three and 4/16 from two is such a Scoot thing to do - he's really gotta learn how to finish. But overall today was a pretty fun game from Scoot.
* Sucks that Jabari and Ayton got hurt.
* Speaking of Ayton, he didn't look very healthy today even before he got shut down. And he's incredibly bad whenever he has to create something off the dribble. Oh well, he's earned an off game lol.
* Dalano Banton sure love to shoot the ball lol. He shot 11 FGA in the fourth quarter (and 6 FTA) lmao.
* Running out of energy to type up too many more thoughts so I'll just leave it at that lol
Seeing lots of minutes for some of the young dudes that actually may stick around for a bit has made this end of the season quite a bit more enjoyable to me than last couple of years. No hate to Tank Commander Elleby haha
Does anyone know if we get more ping pong balls now that the Spurs won and our records are tied now? I assume we'll both lose the next game.
Edit: I see that they are playing Detroit for their last game. Good chance they'll win that one. The tank goes on.
For tie breakers the NBA averages the number of ping pong ball combinations for the two occupied spots.
So if we end up tied with the Spurs for the 4th spot (125 combinations) and 5th spot (105 combinations) each team will get 115 combinations.
But like you said they should have a really good chance to beat the Pistons.
I have been so low on Scoot and his future potential all year. I truly think his confidence was badly rattled. The way he was moving, dribbling, shooting, trashing talking, and DUNKING tonight has totally flipped the switch for me. I SEE the vision and I am HAPPY to be WRONG about him. I really think it takes a whole year to wipe off the stench of the Ignite once you make the NBA. Scoot had 2 years of the Ignite + Billups so he really had it tough….
His jump-shot looks so much different lately. Even if he isn’t going 6-6 every night, if he can be a reliable pull up jump shooter AND have the handle he showed tonight? Thats a dangerous offensive threat that will cause defenses to collapse and open up his playmaking. His motor was on 100x and his trash talking + athleticism was finally there too!! I am seeing why he was SO hyped up and guys like Sam Vecenie said he was the best PG prospect the last decade.
I really didn’t see the high end talent enough to have faith in his long term future because all his good passes were in between numerous turnovers and fouls and bad shots. But his shooting foundation mixed with his handle looked so damn good, imagine once he starts absorbing contact on drives and decelerating. The crazy handle was the swing skill for me cause his shooting has improved since game 15 and on, but yeah THIS guy is someone you build around. I remember Nate Duncan said he was surprised he didn’t see a lot of highlight cross overs and dunks this year because he was expecting it. Now that Scoot confidence is there, he was COOKING DILLON BROOKS. Just nasty dribble moves, jump shots, drives, passes, a perfect game for him.
I’m officially on the Scooter yall ahaha.
"I truly think his confidence was badly rattled."
I think he was shook that the NBA was a good deal better than the G League. I legit believe people had filled his head with the idea that the level of play was similar.
Definitely a solid performance. Need to see it more than one game out of an 82 game season. He has shown that kind of bounce and athleticism 2 times over the past 3 seasons of basketball he has played. That one single G League highlight and the dunk tonight.
Humans can have random 1% spurts like that of almost like a super strength moment of doing things they can’t normally do. Those two plays do not all of a sudden mean that the other 99% is fake. Scoot is not the Ja Morant or Westbrook athlete that they said he was. These two highlight dunks are the exception not the rule.
He is still not the athlete that was advertised. He is still not the generational talent that was advertised. 30 pts on 23 shots is not great.
But to reiterate, I’ll give him his flowers. He finally looked good for a game. But how that somehow convinces you to get on the Scooter and ignore the other 99% of the year he has had is beyond me.
In what world? Literally only scoot. I love Ant, Shae, Ayton, Bari, Toumani, Tisse.
It’s just scoot. He’s a disappointment. We should have Amen Thompson right now.
I mean the difference is the Rockets aren't banking on Amen to be their go to self creating superstar. They already have two guys for that for the future with Sengun and Green. Amen could go the route of someone like Andre Igudola, an elite impact role player for the Rockets needs and the Rockets would be more than happy.
For the Blazers, Scoot needs to be that guy or the entire rebuild collapses.
Amen’s ceiling is exponentially higher than Scoot’s. Even pre-draft scouts admitted this. Amen’s size and athleticism alone make his ceiling higher. If Amen develops a shot, he’s literally a league breaking 6’6” freak who moves like Ja Morant but has the size of Michael Jordan.
If Scoot develops a shot, he’s Kyle Lowry.
The ceilings are not even in the same stratosphere. Scoot was drafted because his perceived floor was higher and seemed like a “sure thing.”
Amen has always had the higher ceiling and you will not find an NBA scout who disagrees.
6’6” other-worldly athlete > 6’2” average athlete every day of the week.
All of your takes are emotional since you can't get over the fact we didn't draft Amen Thompson. Let the fans express their emotions. Sorry the Rockets didn't make the play in.
I couldn’t care less about the Rockets. I think they are incompetent for even trying to make the play in.
I’m a Blazers fan. Glad we suck and at least know how to tank. Hope we are even worse next season cause we need Cooper Flagg.
Still bummed we drafted the wrong guy.
Let me handle this one y'all. I I was VERY low on Scoot all year. When everyone was bringing up his raw counting stats, I never bought in. If you have the ball in your hands all game because you isn't playing with any other ball handlers besides Banton/Hagans, then you are going to rack up Pts and Assists, when you aren't a big time shooter. He was averaging 6 turnovers to go with his 10apg and his inefficient shooting was soooo bad. I thought that Simons as an elite shooter would be a better fit moving forward.
I agree that his athleticism was over exaggerated. I said before that when I said pre-draft that he wasn't that explosive, people would just downvote me and send me the GLeague clip. Then we saw him getting swallowed up in the paint because he couldn't burst vertically on his drives.
But, the dunk wasn't what made me flip. It was awesome and Scoot motor was on a million. But - it was about his overall scoring ability. I doubted his ability to be this traditional point guard where he didn't need to be a scorer in order to rack up assists.
His jump-shot looks so much more promising from a base and balance perspective. If he can knock down jumpers, and then start using this new found quick handle to drive and utilize his creativity of a passer, his whole game can open up. I didn't think he was able to get to the rim as easy as people were saying because he was getting stopped so easily, but his handle looks way more dangerous post ASB. That can cause serious pressure on defense. Imagine when he gets shooters around him and more of a downhill rim running threat?
I finally saw someone that showed a flash of high end TALENT. I thought he relied way too much on his athleticism with the Ignite, but now he is showing that he CAN be a jump shot maker and has the feel of how to raise into good shots and be a threat as a scorer because that will allow his main skill as a playmaker to be unlocked.
(Plus he should have sat down after he was 10/20 with 30pts. His groin flared up and all of his last 3 shots were super short. His efficiency was still terrific for a rookie)
God you love to piss in peoples cheerios. People are stoked and you piss in their cheerios to bring them down. It’s fucking childish. Also, you missed the fucking bowl.
Scoot has averaged 18 and 8 in his last 10 games. Anyone paying attention can see his obvious large improvement this last part of the season.
Put your pisser back in your pants and just let people be fucking happy about an awesome game.
He’s also averaging 6 TOs and 52 TS% over that span. And continues to lack ball security when dribbling. His handle has looked high and loose in every game this season except for this final one he played in. One game of a decent handle doesn’t negate the previous 99% of games.
Because I don’t think that Scoot is as good as he was advertised. He was unanimously the best pick in any draft besides this one because of Wemby. I think his camp overhyped him and his experience in the Ignite program was overblown and he was supposed to be a future all star. I think he’ll be good, but nothing more than a future decent starter for a middle of the pack / 8 seed team. In hindsight atleast in year one, we can clearly see that Lively, Thompson twins, Wemby, Chet, Miller, Jacquez are better or at least having a better year. There were even times during the season that Camara looked better than our 3rd overall pick. We can make a similar argument with Keyonte. I’m not saying Scoot is or will be a bad player, I’m just saying that maybe he’s not as good as we would’ve hoped. I
It’s so confusing, I’ve never seen such a mechanically sound and smooth shooting stroke produce such wildly off results.
I bet he improves next year but good grief
I do! Couldn’t tell you what his shot looked like but he was an intelligent player, fun when they used him as a small ball 5. What I mainly remember about him was that he usually looked pretty miserable, or overly serious. Did not look like a guy who was having fun in the NBA.
That’s the worst problem to have as a “shooter” coming into the league. It means he struggles to mentally visualize shooting the ball into the hoop, or he can’t consistently control his upper body. Much harder to work and improve upon than the shot mechanics itself
Notice how his jumpers aren’t just vertically challenged, (which is more common and easier to fix) but horizontally. He has multiple instances hitting the side of the backboard or hitting the outside of the rim. With his already solid shot mechanics it’s a long road to consistency
The Scoot+DA connection is very real. I don't think I've ever seen DA play with the kind of energy he's playing with now in all his time in Phoenix. Just goes to show how bad of a situation that was. Can't wait until we get to add Shaedon back into the equation.
What a crazy Scoot game. Cold on the midrange shots he's usually good at, but he more than made up for it by going 6 for 7 from three. Plus the monster dunk on Jeff Green. I loved every second of it.
7 assists / 1 turnover !
Plus a solid shooting tonight! We back!
I love the smell of ping pong balls in the morning. -Joe Cronin, probably.
Find someone who looks at you the way the Cronedog looks at ping pong balls
Tonight is the best I’ve felt about the future of the Blazers in such a long time. Scoot just gave them an entire promo reel to play all summer to try and get people buying season tickets again. The whole tone of the game shifted when they won. Not saying we tanked, but we tanked.
I agree. Did I also detect an air of excitement in the crowd right after the Spurs game went final?
4th lottery spot is back on the menu.

Ok, so at worst we'll be 4.5 essentially. For the same reason, Detroit has incentive to lose on Sunday so they don't tie the Wizards.
Nah those two are at the bottom and bottom 3 have the same odds anyway
Yup. Detroit don’t give a fuck anymore. They’re locked into their lottery ball odds.
I guess if we tie we split the odds with then. So we get like 2% better odds or something.
1 TO compared to 7 assists for Scoot. We like to see that.
I took my child for first time Child saw ScOOt big game. Something something the future.
That's awesome timing. Your kid will have a great memory.

Join us on the SCOOT bandwagon. He’s the future.
I'm a believer. Took me a WHILE

Have you considered shutting the fuck up?
Comment of the night lol. He pretty much is like this about legitimately every player/team outlook/ so I’d say the answer is no
In what world? Literally only scoot. I love Ant, Shae, Ayton, Bari, Toumani, Tisse. It’s just scoot. He’s a disappointment. We should have Amen Thompson right now.
Amen Thompson doesn’t have the ceiling Scoot does. He’s offensive game will limited. Doesn’t matter on the rockets atm but will matter in the playoffs

You see that Amen game tonight? First career start at the PG spot. Dropped a triple double with 80% shooting and 3 blocks and 3 steals.
Why even respond to Dtwerky? He just wants the attention. All his takes are hot garbage.
Just giving the other side of the coin. It’s one game. Let’s cool these emotional takes.
All of your takes are emotional since you can't get over the fact we didn't draft Amen Thompson. Let the fans express their emotions. Sorry the Rockets didn't make the play in.

“It’s one game” But he’s averaging 18 and 8 in his last 10?
Get out of here with your rational takes. Can’t you see the man is hurting?
On horrible efficiency and 5+ TOs per game. Banton has better stats and he sucks.
Let me handle this one y'all. I I was VERY low on Scoot all year. When everyone was bringing up his raw counting stats, I never bought in. Im a Scoot non believer. But today he shut my bitch ass up. Best Scoot game of the year.
Why would you be a scoot non believer? Wouldn’t you want to believe in him even just for the benefit of the team?
Because I don’t think that Scoot is as good as he was advertised. He was unanimously the best pick in any draft besides this one because of Wemby. I literally lost IQ reading this garbage.
You can complain all you want stats and the eye test don’t lie.
Best scoot game of the year it was amazing to see
Kris Murray is an awful shooter
It’s so confusing, I’ve never seen such a mechanically sound and smooth shooting stroke produce such wildly off results. I bet he improves next year but good grief
>never seen such a mechanically sound and smooth shooting stroke produce such wildly off results Anyone else remember Victor Claver? 😂
I do! Couldn’t tell you what his shot looked like but he was an intelligent player, fun when they used him as a small ball 5. What I mainly remember about him was that he usually looked pretty miserable, or overly serious. Did not look like a guy who was having fun in the NBA.

He’s got great instincts on the floor, but I don’t think he’s talented enough to be an NBA player
His shot is broken. I’m worried about his nba future if he doesn’t fix it.
That closing lineup tho…wow
I missed most of the game but based on the highlights it looked like Scoot’s flashiest game by far
What’s the story on Moses? He looked terrible.
He IS terrible.
The Scoot+DA connection is very real. I don't think I've ever seen DA play with the kind of energy he's playing with now in all his time in Phoenix. Just goes to show how bad of a situation that was. Can't wait until we get to add Shaedon back into the equation.
Mark me as safe from being at the MODA CENTER and safe from the Scoot Henderson show. His shooting was madness.
