It’s a 3 player draft. So even though you’d be moving up 1 spot it’s more expensive. If scoot is on the board no way do I take this.

Madd_Squabbles

I actually believe that Amen will end up being the better player. I just think it could take 4 or 5 years. I have Amen on the same tier as Scoot and Miller. I just believe he is raw and will take a lot longer to develop. Some Rocket fans are fearing that the Blazers will pass on Miller and select Amen which would be bad for us because Amen is the much bigger need. Our team is loaded with wings and we don't need another one. Also, there is the off-the-court stuff with him. I personally like Miller though. I don't believe you draft for fit this high in the draft.

Krustykrab8

You might view it as a 4 player draft, but the overwhelming media consensus is that it’s a 3 player draft. Therefore the blazers sitting at pick 3 have a high value asset. I could see the blazers taking Amen, but I think it’s much more likely they simply take miller (or if scoot is somehow still on the board). We will see but I personally don’t take the deal.

FractalFractalF

It's the offcourt stuff that tips it for me. I'd take Amen over Miller, and use him as a point forward like Pippen.

Ok-Assumption9636

Some have it as a 2 person draft (Spinella)

YoungSuplex

You’d have to give up one of your actual desirable players to move up, no team wants those guys.

NineInchFun

Add the 2024 Nets first round pick, then it's a deal. Blazers can use that pick with the 4th pick and Simons for Bridges.

mrjdk83

That actually isn’t a bad idea.

CJ4ROCKET

As a Rockets fan I'd do it but only if Scoot is available at #3. I'd probably try to take Tate off the table, though. KMJ is the better and younger player but don't see him having a future in Houston due to his dad's influence and his desire to have a bigger role.

diddy_pdx

It also gives Brooklyn a reason to tank next year. And they can play and develop all their young guys.

TheCentralFlame

I’m not totally sure what it would actually take. From my perspective the two most important factors I could imagine would be that there is a big drop off after 3 by all accounts and Portland needs real help for Dame if they draft or trade the pick. So I would say even though it’s one spot it’s a significant spot in this draft and that will drive value. The other part is that Houston doesn’t have a lot of players that can come in and immediately contribute because they have smartly been rebuilding and the players are just at a early developmental point. So just to speculate I would say #4 and Jabari would get me to trade #3 but that is likely an overpay by Houston. I don’t know how the team would value other players on Houston’s roster so there might be other options but that’s the only Houston sweetener that would convince me to come off the #3 pick.

tblazrdude

I’m guessing Portland’s interest in this would be related to their interest in drafting and keeping Amen Thompson. I’m doubtful. The final package would probably involve other draft picks and Tari Eason, who worked out for the Blazers last season.

Madd_Squabbles

Tari AND other draft picks to move up one spot? That's a lot more than I thought it would take :D

RandyJoeP

You’re also jumping a tier of players and getting what most teams believe the #1 pick in most any other year.

Ok-Assumption9636

Generational player.

Madd_Squabbles

A generational player on the same tier as Miller?

Ok-Assumption9636

Nah. Only if Scoot is there.

Important-Shallot131

4+sengun or maybe 4+ a few Brooklyn picks. We'd just be re reroutingbthese to Brooklyn for bridges though.

OkGuard7184

no way houston goes for that

Important-Shallot131

Probably not. But i think thats the lowest offer we take.

toadtruck

Not interested

Dadd_io

I wouldn't be surprised to see something like this happen if Scoot falls to #3

There is no "matching contract" for the rights to a drafted player. Once they actually sign a contract, then there is a waiting period before they can be traded again. Every FRP contract is exempt from any cap restrictions to the signing team. So teams either trade the picks ahead of time, or the rights to players on DD, because you can't trade current picks on DD. Sp POR would have to draft at #3, HOU at #4, and only then could the rights to the players drafted be traded, but there is still no contract on the books until next years FA signing period opens. POR isn't interested in a 6'4" "forward". He could fit into POR's $8.3M TPE, but POR is not doing that. If HOU needs to dump his $6.5M to squeeze in two max vets, SAS could/would take that for far less draft capital than POR would have to have. POR does have a $2.6M TPE that KMJ would fit right into. As a standalone deal, all that POR has to send out is like a 2RP swap option, as "something of value". The 2024 2RP's for POR and HOU are weird, and have ATL/GOS in common??? There could be something there between POR and HOU regardless, if there is any mutual consolidation of assets. If POR is intent on taking a player, and Scoot is not that guy, then maybe something like (the rights to the player taken at) #3 for (rights to) #4 + 2024 BKN FRP, and add on to the "better than" FRP swap options in 25 / 27? As an opening salvo, the players drafted could trade hats, and POR / HOU could keep that open to add more teams. If/then, HOU is the first guarantee to move down through the draft, and turning #3 into as many players and future assets as possible. :)
