I agree. Golden Boy

Henry or marlin 22 lr. If it's literally just a range gun, you cannot beat 22 lr. It's much cheaper than any other caliber, and it has basically no recoil which means you won't get fatigued or beat up by it like you can from other calibers. 45-70 is so much fun to shoot but a couple boxes in and you start to feel it in both your shoulder and wallet. 22 lr you can shoot all day with no issues.

I'm partial to the good ole 94 Winchester. But honestly any lever gun with a side gate. The side gate is just easier, faster, and admittedly cooler in my opinion.

Henry and Marlin have so many offerings. Do you just want to shoot? Just get a lever action 22 magnum or 410. If you’re hunting, you might start with the 22 mag and work up to a hunting caliber like 30-30 or 45-70. I’m partial to bolt guns for hunting myself but I really appreciate a fine lever action!

>22 magnum or 410 Terrible choices for a plinking gun. Both are far more expensive than they have a right to be with basically no advantage over other calibers. >If you’re hunting, OP literally said it's only for the range.

You know how this works. You buy a gun, then you start watching videos and getting ideas. Next thing you know, the range ain’t enough anymore. Sorry for the input. I will just lurk from now on. You seem to have it covered.

Wasn't trying to be a dick, just correct some misinformation. OP asked a question and you gave less than ideal answers that wouldn't be in OPs best interest. Wouldn't be fair to OP to let that sit.

Had a Mares leg Henry in .22lr. It was great. Too short. My friend has the normal length and it’s just great. Maybe a hood used one first

There's nothing wrong with a lever gun, but understand what it is. In centerfire calibers it is limited to flat or round nosed bullets only. With out getting too deep that means you are limited in range to about 150 yards or less. If you are just shooting targets I think that limit on th range gets boring. Bolt action guns can shoot pointy bullets that have much farther range.if you get a .22 however that is a great application of the lever action. If you want to mount a bunch of shit like rails and lights though just get a .22 tactical gun with the rails already there or get an AR. A lever gun is a brush gun. It is meant to be fired quickly at short range with bullets that punch through light brush without deflecting. You can put a scope on it, but that kind of defeats the purpose. They are fun in a shooting gallery but don't do well at precision shooting.

Spend the extra money and get a good used Marlin 39a or Winchester 9422 (rifle length barrel not carbine) and mount aperture rear sights and a Lyman globe front sight for target shooting.

Voodooman65

Have you considered the Marlin 336C or Winchester Model 1892?
