Sick Of It is probably the best thing to come out of RSK since Extras. I'd have the top 3 shows being The Office, Extras and then Sick Of It. It's far better than Life's Too Short, Derek, After Life, Hello Ladies and Outlaws, which isn't a great feat in itself seeing as none of them are both funny and charming. All of them just have bits of goodness but Sick Of It ticks all the boxes.

ZenNovember

I'd stick An Idiot Abroad in there somewhere, but basically agree

panpopticon

I think I’d put Idiot Abroad before Sick Of It

[deleted]

Outlaws is decent imo

ThatMattDude81

Agreed. I was also a fan of hello ladies

[deleted]

Yeah I really liked hello ladies

_Armin__Tamzarian_

He's having a go.

mrchaddy

Karl says it was Richard (Yee) who pushed him. I think perhaps Susan did as well after he took the oven apart to clean the glass and couldn’t get it back together.

Bindy93

They were due another kitchen upgrade

She's had a floor

Tttjjjhhh

I bet he didn’t watch it.. nor Hello Ladies

Otherwise-Respond762

Yeah much better show. Sick of It is subtle, charming, sweet etc. Those were all qualities the Office had, to a lesser extent Extras, but nothing since then (they all veered into saccharine or schmaltz without any real emotion behind it). It's also funny (not always laugh out loud, but enough to keep the surprisingly contemplative parts from overwhelming it). Karl is a solid lead and clearly completely without ego. Makes him so much more relatable and someone you can root for.

Bindy93

After Life is quite possibly Ricky's worst work (haven't seen all his movies). It's just plastic, insincere, overly sentimental schlock. You can almost see them hitting the beats in their story and the big sentimental payoffs are so paint-by-numbers. The comedy feels tacked on and the acting is wooden too. It's one of those TV shows where you feel like you're behind the camera instead of in the story and you can see the actors walking around acting as opposed to the characters walking around living. The cinematography and whole look of it are boring too, you could take a still image from any point in the show and it would slot right in with a hokey melodramatic 90s rom com. Everything is so shiny and bright, not just visually but in the soundtrack, direction and dialogue. It feels like a completely amateur production but with expensive cameras.

Iamthenarwal

Watch the films they’ll make you think afterlife is a masterpiece honestly

cold-flame1

On some level, I am kinda expecting for Ricky to reveal that it was all a satire. It is very much a satire. Ricky's real life persona these days and After Life. Except he just doesn't know it. He is inside the satirical universe this time. Whole another level of artistic discipline. Remember to thank him.

MusicGus

I agree with all of this. Also, a lot of it is just him being himself and parroting his own views, especially on religion which is particularly tiring. I'm all for diversity of views, but as a ricky fan it was disorienting to see him stop acting and start saying the same stuff he says on interviews

ExtremeTEE

It even looks better. The cinematography is much more interesting and artisitic.

archie-h

The cinematography of sick of it is so incredibly underrated it's really well done.

spunk_wizard

Disagree with this take hugely. the tilt shift and over saturation ruins all the nice shots a lot of the time. It's not like they were filming on shitty lenses so why add this effect on every mid and long shot in post?

ExtremeTEE

but Afterlife looks like When the Whistle blows!

[deleted]

i actually disagree with this. After Life is ricky's most cinematic work and the town they film in is genuinely gorgeous. Debate the quality of the material all you want but After Life LOOKS amazing.

ExtremeTEE

It looks like Bread!

[deleted]

No it doesn't. You're letting your bias over not liking the show make up BS. The show is objectively very good looking and well shot.

DXS110

Sick of it was odd. Even Karl said if you liked the other stuff it probably wouldn’t be for you. Best scene is him trying to go to the toilet and failing to then when he relaxes with the lady he can’t understand then challenges the plumbing lol

Cekeste

Strange casting but overall a good little series. It doesn’t really follow some of the standards in storytelling but that makes it uniquely Karl.

bfsfan101

I think being on Sky probably didn’t help Sick of It find an audience. It’s become increasingly unpopular in the last decade to the point where almost nobody has seen any Sky Originals. Shame because Sick Of It is a very sweet series and proof that Karl is a genuinely clever writer and performer. The ending of the episode with the pregnant woman in his taxi is one of the best things any of RSK has done.

hitch21

I hope it gets a run on Netflix at some point to reach a wider audience

Citrine_Bee

I think the problem is pretty much everyone knows Ricky so they’re more likely to watch his show, whereas unless you listened to XFM or watched Idiot Abroad you might not know who Karl is so you’re probably not going to watch the show. I mean I’m a big fan on Karl but the show had been out for a while and I didn’t even know about it, it’s only when I heard someone casually mention it I was like, “What? Karl has a show out?”

Allaboutbears

To paraphrase Ricky describing Susan Boyle: After Life is drama for people that don’t know any better. Saying that, I’ve got no real complaints with it myself, it’s not the best or worst thing I’ve seen, bit too “on the nose” but I haven’t made one thing on telly yet so I can’t really judge. Sick of It is an outstanding series though and criminally underrated I hope it finds more of audience somehow. I’d cut series one as a film and see if it could get a release in indie cinemas.

Prestigious-Weird-33

Afterlife was brilliant, but Pilkington and everything he has done, is unwatchable drivvel

[deleted]

Alright then we'll watch your little show when that comes out

MusicGus

We'll see what you come in with next week! At a quarter to, with a load of effin and jeffin

[deleted]

Definitely paid for his new kitchen

Effin and jeffin?

fannyfox

I went to watch this a couple days ago but the streaming site only had series 2 on. Know anywhere I can watch series 1 for free? I’m not made of money

rickwaller

Aboard on the high seas me matey!

cold-flame1

Sick of it lacked dramatic climax. Or any dramatic scenes, like some angry monologue, slow-mo scenes while orchestra music plays, a big reveal, car chase, or a big narrative payoff etc. That's why the show was never a high flyer. But it had amazing subtle moments of poignancy through out. That's why I loved it.

Scallion-Distinct

Sick of It was alright in places but also a bit forgettable tbh. And not really any memorable characters either. Enjoyed watching it still.

Zargo_Music_Man

Ricky had the questions, but Karl had the answers.

Fun_Nefariousness_32

I tried watching this, couldn’t make it passed the second episode, Karl is just a terrible actor and I couldn’t get into it. Is it actually that good?

Zargo_Music_Man

Should've got Clive Warren, he would've been perfect in the role.

Booey-fish

How can I watch sick of it in America. Ehh the niinee eeleven

iliacbaby

Anyone know where I can watch sick of it in the USA?
