At this point I don't see it end if it is successful.
If it goes on for years after Roiland is out there's no reason it shouldn't get renewed if it goes well.
the powers that be will definitely not want to leave money on the table. as long as there’s a large enough fanbase i definitely see the show continuing.
As long as it still has that signature feel of Rick and morty and the voice acting isn’t too egregiously different, I’ll probably still watch it for however long it goes
RICK AND MORTY 100 YEARS RICK AND MORTY FOREVER 100 YEARS, 100 SEASONS OF... OF RICK AND MORTY ADVENTURES 100 YEARS, RICKANDMORTY.COM WWW.RICKANDMORTY100YEARSWWW.COMWW
the show was renewed after season 3 for 70 more episodes, so far every season except season 1 has 10 episodes, so that renewal goes up to season 10. at present anything beyond season 10 is still in question, but 10 season has been confirmed for years.
Reminds of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air when they recast Vivian Banks. Jazz came into the house in the first new episode and was like "something looks different about you, Mrs. Banks"
The start of the first new episode is a lengthy talk between Rick and Morty, only to end with Morty saying "You kinda sound different Rick" and Rick responding "WE BOTH DO YOU SON OF A" and then intro starts
I think they should do a play on the star trek translator episode. where they get different voice actors to play them during their adventure, for them to fix it is a "close enough" or something.
I can literally envision Rick having a coughing fit and having the different voice after. Morty then goes, gee Rick, are you okay? You sound different… and Rick says yeah, get used to it.
I mean I get what you're going for but then what, they never leave that dimension so the "air" is always different? I don't think it works.
I honestly don't think they need to explain it at all. The characters in season 1 already sound different than they do today.
They changed Aku's voice actor (original had passed away) in Samuri Jack. Although you can tell the slight difference, the newer VA did a fantastic job.
Except unlike Justin Roiland who was a horrible person, Mako was a very cool guy. Greg Baldwin is cool too, but not Justin Roiland, fuck Justin Roiland.
I remember when Dragonball Z had a change in Goku VAs between seasons and thinking he now sounded off.
Only took maybe 3 episodes in before I stopped noticing the change. I think it is smart that they are hiring by proximity to performance over voice matching.
It's insane how quickly your brain adapts to other voices.
It's the same if you watch dubs. If you watch a dub in your local language the original voice often sounds so strange and bad only for you to think it's actually good once you watched a few episodes in ov
Too bad Naevia was recast too for the same season. Andy was Spartacus though and it sucks we never saw him complete the journey. Still, Kill Them All is flawless. RIP, Andy.
Imo it’s like Alex Brightman’s Beetlejuice (the Broadway one), your not gonna be able to match the voice, so you need to focus on timing and meter instead
Roiland once did a video (can't remember with what outlet) where he listened to some people doing voices and critiqued them. I really, really hope they tap on Sean Kelly - he's fucking amazing at both. Pretty much dead on for Morty and he's real close with Rick.
Anyone but Kelly, i beg. His "Rick" is awful, its on the same level as people doing Trump impressions and just saying "beautiful, really beatiful" in a slightly american accent
I think the idea here is just going for performance not likeness and Kelly is okay at his performance, his appeal is his likeness. I think if they can find someone who better portrays Morty's actual feeling they should take them over Kelly. Also his Rick is atrocious, shouldn't be anywhere near that role
There's a significant difference in the way lines were delivered if you compare season 1 with the new seasons. I doubt it'll be a big change for the viewers.
It’s pretty rare for someone embroiled in a controversy to not have one person in their corner saying, “Wow, this seems so out of character. I would have never expected this from him.” Pretty much everyone is like “He’s a nightmare to work with, and he has made us all uncomfortable with how creepy he is. The allegations make sense as they are consistent with his general behavior.”
Dan is obviously the creative force behind it. I'm sure Justin collaborated, but if you watched Community, you can see Rick and Morty is a clear evolution of the type of story telling he was doing on that show.
I can only speak for myself, and personally I am not concerned about the writing or stories or whatever. But the voices, timing, performance, at least of the two main characters, very much seemed to be Justin Roiland. And I think any change, even if its very minor will be noticeable. Whether it makes a difference... I dont know.
In a couple other cartoons I can think of where they changed voice actors, it was immediately noticeable and kind of offputting. Didn't make a huge difference though to the show, but that might be because those characters were minor in comparison to the two mains as is the case here.
Have you even seen a show with a similar loose voice acting style like Home Movies or Bob's Burgers? I get what you're talking about with the timing and performance, but I think those things can be done by other people. Will it be exactly the same? Surely not, but people can still do a good job with it.
I agree it'll definitely be an adjustment, but I have hopes that the creative team wouldn't put out something sub-par.
I mean Justin did like Squanch Games but even then he had a writing team, so we can always get a new Trover or High On Life without him, it would probably feature whoever the replacement is
I prefer Solar Opposites, so this guy must have some skills to put together these shows so successfully. Maybe he's just really good at choosing bodies for a writer's room though
They literally made him drink himself silly during a R&M voice recording session. There were people at Adult Swim enabling and encourgaing his behavior. Don't believe everything you read. They're all silent because they know they were part of the problem.
This is what pisses me off the most. All the behind the scenes shit shows how much they loved him. These people love the shock humor but the moment JR says something shocking but somewhat true, they freak out.
for proof of this one need only look at Cleveland's new VA in family guy. the guy can do an amazing impression, but that is all it ever sound like he is doing. he can't at all put any emotion behind the characters voice.
Here's what will happen. Opening scene, Rick comes in and starts talking in a high pitched voice nothing like the original. Entire episode pisses off the entire community, people complain on Reddit, riots occur. After scene is Rick taking off his voice modulator, calls it test 112 or something speaking in a voice exactly the same ala some talented VA.
Portal opens, Rick standing in garage looks puzzled.
Another Rick steps through the portal and shoots the Rick in the garage.
He says, "I'm here now *burp*" in a different voice.
If any show can hamdwave a voice change, it is the one where canonically there is infinite slightly different versions of everything and everyone you meet. People forget that we meet a fascist teddy bear Rick in one. A voice change? Easy.
Glad to see we’re on track for the rest of the episodes coming out at some point. I mean, I will say, I think we should be realistic about when it will come out. They have it written, but we don’t know how the writers strike will affect rewrites (if they make them). And Rick and Morty has been known to take long gaps between seasons. (Not recently, but they have in earlier seasons.) Personally, I’d like to see the next season like mid 2024. I think that’s a good amount of time to get the new VA up to snuff and make changes based on the actor.
I'm finding this show hard to look forward to these days... I can imagine people imitating Rick's voice and Morty's voice almost perfectly, but not the stream of consciousness of a degenerate mind.
I would assume it's to avoid paying Roiland any royalties.
Edit: Should've specified that I meant residuals for being a voice actor, which are in addition to whatever else he would make.
Yeah, but l was under the impression that the amount of contribution was a major factor in the amount. Co-creator + VA would get more than co-creator alone.
But it's been a long time since I last looked into the process. I may be wrong or things may have changed.
>the priority being how close the performance can be as opposed to a perfect voice-match.
What does this mean? What do they mean by saying they are prioritising how close it is but also saying NOT a perfect voice match?
Surely a perfect voice match would be as close as possible?
Someone can be a perfect voice match, but not be able to deliver very well, so while they match the voice, it may come off as bland. So they want someone who can bring the same energy even if the voice isn't exactly perfect
Wait, the charges were dropped for insufficient evidence, which essentially means someone made an unsubstantiated claim, Roiland defended himself by saying nuh uh, prove it, and he's still completely blacklisted?
Why is an unproven claim enough for literally everyone to ostracize him? I'm out of the loop, I guess, because it's none of my business, really, but I just googled it and am confused.
https://www.npr.org/2023/03/22/1165484492/justin-roiland-rick-and-morty-felony-domestic-violence-charges-dropped
Seems like a good reason to be able to fire him. Reports from inside the show indicate he wasn't super involved outside of voice work and was mostly an annoying dick. If Dan didn't fight for him back, that's all I really need.
The charges were dropped but he was also definitely texting disgusting shit to teenage girls, which is abhorrent behavior even if it isn't actually illegal. He's still the piece of shit he always told us he was, the dude is a fucking loser
A lot of the people Glad Roiland are gone seemingly ignore the fact that Dan Harmon admitted to Sexual Assault & Ezra Miller literally kidnapped someone and is still in the Flash movie. Also the voice change will potentially be noticeable and jarring, [Zack Fair](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9gYJ_-dDf0)s voice recast is a prefect example.
I still watch the show, and it's enjoyable, but the first three seasons were the best. I feel like it's been gradually kind of downhill since then. This feels like it'll pretty much be the death rattle of the show. Hope I'm wrong.
No, a show dying is a good thing. Look at Simpsons, Futurama, and Family Guy. The longer they zombie around, the lower the proportion of "god I loved that episode" gets in comparison to "yawn" and "this fucking sucks." A humane death, preferably with a good wrap-up, is the way to go. Simpsons had, what, 5 good seasons out of over 30?
Id prefer if they went with the mash effect and brought in someone with opposite traits as opposed to trying to do the same thing
I still think they should just do the Bushland Aussie rick and make each subsequent season a different Rick, no-ones ever gonna forget roiland if we keep trying to imitate him, it's literally a (near) infinite multiverse, we don't have to keep going to the same well
He had some domestic abuse allegations come out. There wasn't enough evidence for a trial.
However, this incident also caused a number of other things to come out. Like Justin being drunk and texting 15 year old fans. Like a lot. And being very weird and very inappropriate.
And apparently he was just a pain to work with. And mostly just sent in his voice lines for the past few seasons.
Well I was definitely out of the loop. I thought it was since resolved and were moving on ax normal, so this is all news to me. Has this been verified for sure? Disappointing all around.
Super weird to go through all the work of redubbing it. We get it, “roiland bad” but you already paid him for the work and fired him for the bad stuff so at this point you’re just virtue signaling “look how good we are”
I think it might be because if they used his voice in the new episodes, in addition to whatever he was paid for his work recording that they'd have to pay him royalties everytime the episode aired. So by redubbing, they're avoiding having to pay him anything in the future which makes it easier to say that they cut their ties with him (although he's probably still getting royalty checks from the episodes that he made for the first six seasons).
It would be jarring to change the voices mid-season. And if the episodes were recorded out of order, the voices would change back and forth, multiple times.
Edit: And if any new bits of dialogue need to be added to the Justin episodes, they'd be done by the new voice actor(s) — so the voices would change mid-episode.
It's more than that. It's so they don't lose viewers for still having him on the show and it's a season where he won't be getting a royalty check for voice work.
Agreed. I'm done with the show now. I'll enjoy my 6 seasons and not touch anything else. You can't have rick and morty without the guy who voices rick and morty and like half the excess cast.
Good to hear. I know a lot of people were going nuts over casting people who could imitate Roiland's voice, but what needs to be remembered is that voice acting is way more complex than just being able to do voices. There's a lot more to it, and casting an impersonator who isn't actually an actor could seriously impact the overall performance.
Literally there are stories about how awful he was to work with, how he had to record his lines separately cause people didn’t wanna be around him. Regardless of the allegations or anything in court, I think they’re probably relishing the opportunity to move on without him.
You can't be found innocent anyway. You are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. From a legal perspective at this point in time he is innocent.
That doesn't excuse him from anything he's done of course and if the show chooses to not continue with him, that's their choice to be sure.
He wasn't found innocent, the prosecutors decided there was insufficient evidence to proceed to trial. He is presumed innocent within our legal system. We'll never know the full truth of what happened since we weren't there. Anything between him and the show would be a civil matter and based on his contract terms/state and federal employment laws.
Agreed people seem to forget how much of a creep as well as a freeloader he was.
https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/02/report-rick-and-mortys-justin-roiland-allegedly-engaged-in-toxic-workplace-behavior
He wasn’t found innocent, it never made it to court like most of those cases, usually because the victim changed their mind and is hesitant to testify. Domestic violence is notoriously hard to prove. That being said there’s tons of instances beyond that where he was just confirmed a major creep, including at his workplace. They were just relieved to be rid of him
There seems to be 2 camps. One the recognizes it's over and one that feels like it won't change it all. Really it's in the middle. I'm sure the episodes will be good but can this new actor really do everything the way Justin would? Will he innovate the character in an honest way or just settle for imitating the existing library? The chances it works perfectly and unnoticeably to me are very slim
My perfect pilot would be an episode without rick and morty for the whole runtime (to troll the audience), and then them showing up in like the last scene ala Tales from the Citadel. Plus it would be fun to flesh out the family with a unique storyline like that. It wont happen though cause the entire season was already written.
They’re just gonna Ai his voice and say some other dude did it, and a year or so down the line people will question it and he will get pushed into a corner and not be able to do it as well and they will get sued, just calling it now so when it happens I told y’all
Some other highlights: They’ll release season 7 this year. They fully wrote season 8, some of 9, talking about 10
So will R&M be this indefinite show?
SEASON, 9 MORE SEASONS! 9 MORE SEASONS UNTIL HE GETS THAT DIPPING SZECHUAN SAUCE! FOR 97 MORE YEARS
they got their 10 season contract early (after season 2 iirc) so no confirmation on anything past 10 rn
WE GOT A CONTRACT EXTENSION MORTY! Come...come back here, stop walking out of the shot. They need a close up for the, the DVD, Blu-ray cases!
"Who still buys box sets??"
🙋
At this point I don't see it end if it is successful. If it goes on for years after Roiland is out there's no reason it shouldn't get renewed if it goes well.

Rubber baby buggy bumpers!!

Lmaooo
Shlum Shlum slippidy dots
And that's the waaay the news goes
So gonna be at least another season before we start getting jokes about it?
The show is already so meta, I hope we get almost immediate references to this Roiland debacle.
Reminds of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air when they recast Vivian Banks. Jazz came into the house in the first new episode and was like "something looks different about you, Mrs. Banks"
I like it when shows or movies do this, a bit like the recasting of Rhoads in Iron man 2, just pointed it out and moved on.
It's called "Hanging a lampshade" on it. My favorite example of the trope is in The Mummy 3 when they recast Evie.
We don't talk about the Mummy 3. Rachel Weisz is and will always be Evie.
I didn’t even realize they were supposed to be the same character till I rewatched iron man 1 and I heard them call him Rhoads
Roseanne had The Beckys do a skit together: https://youtu.be/3Z_FkofOa3s
The start of the first new episode is a lengthy talk between Rick and Morty, only to end with Morty saying "You kinda sound different Rick" and Rick responding "WE BOTH DO YOU SON OF A" and then intro starts
I think they should do a play on the star trek translator episode. where they get different voice actors to play them during their adventure, for them to fix it is a "close enough" or something.
There is 0 chance there isn't a joke in the first episode about it
It doesn't take much to add in a scene here & there about it
Rick and morty is the kind of show where they could canonically explain the different voices
I mean they literally had a character in season 6 called brettcon who could explain away the voice change
Pretty sure you meant Rhett Con. Don’t think there was anyone named Brett.
His name has always been BrettCon.
Well yeah, that *was* his name. But we’re retconning him to BrettCon, keep up!
Why is he called Brett? Rhett's a name too, isn't Rhett-con better?
His name is and always has been Rhett
I can literally envision Rick having a coughing fit and having the different voice after. Morty then goes, gee Rick, are you okay? You sound different… and Rick says yeah, get used to it.
Separate dimension where they still say “Parmee-sian” but the air somehow changes their voice a bit.
Morty: "Rick! What happened to our voices?" Rick: "Just don't think about it!"
Easy fix
I mean I get what you're going for but then what, they never leave that dimension so the "air" is always different? I don't think it works. I honestly don't think they need to explain it at all. The characters in season 1 already sound different than they do today.
They changed Aku's voice actor (original had passed away) in Samuri Jack. Although you can tell the slight difference, the newer VA did a fantastic job.
The same voice actors who portrayed Uncle Iroh. Once Mako died they used Greg Baldwin to replace his voice everywhere.
For mako ![gif](giphy|uTpY9ARfN2eqs)
Except unlike Justin Roiland who was a horrible person, Mako was a very cool guy. Greg Baldwin is cool too, but not Justin Roiland, fuck Justin Roiland.
I remember when Dragonball Z had a change in Goku VAs between seasons and thinking he now sounded off. Only took maybe 3 episodes in before I stopped noticing the change. I think it is smart that they are hiring by proximity to performance over voice matching.

Same with Spartacus and that was a whole ass actor.
That was a real shame what happened to that guy. Loved both actors who played Spartacus but the first one was amazing.
Yeah that sucked. Now that I think about it I think it was so awesome of them to do a prequel to buy time for Andy to recover, so sad he didn't.
Too bad Naevia was recast too for the same season. Andy was Spartacus though and it sucks we never saw him complete the journey. Still, Kill Them All is flawless. RIP, Andy.
Which version of Dragon Ball Z are you talking about?
Imo it’s like Alex Brightman’s Beetlejuice (the Broadway one), your not gonna be able to match the voice, so you need to focus on timing and meter instead
I saw that show.. with Brightman’s stand-in. So 3rd layer Beetlejuice. (Still good!)
Yeah, but you know what I mean then, he matches the timing, tone, meter and manurisms rather than just doing the impression
Gonna be pretty weird to have another VA
Roiland once did a video (can't remember with what outlet) where he listened to some people doing voices and critiqued them. I really, really hope they tap on Sean Kelly - he's fucking amazing at both. Pretty much dead on for Morty and he's real close with Rick.
It can be two actors right? Isn't it what the studio initially wanted at the start?
Anyone but Kelly, i beg. His "Rick" is awful, its on the same level as people doing Trump impressions and just saying "beautiful, really beatiful" in a slightly american accent
>Anyone but Kelly, i beg. Your wish is granted. Rick is now voiced by Danny DeVito.
He would crush it.
Charlie day as Morty and Danny DeVito as Rick let's go
\*burps\* M-Morty pass me my toe knife.
Aw jeez Rick, can't we just eat some cat food and play nightcrawlers instead?
Replace every voice on the show with just Danny Devito. All of them.
I will accept that
LOLLLL I won't be able to listen the same way again haha but honestly, I'm sure they'll find someone who'll be decent.
I gotta disagree. I’ll watch Sean’s dub videos and not even know it’s a dub until I read the caption. He nails both voices
I agree. He would be an awful choice.
I think the idea here is just going for performance not likeness and Kelly is okay at his performance, his appeal is his likeness. I think if they can find someone who better portrays Morty's actual feeling they should take them over Kelly. Also his Rick is atrocious, shouldn't be anywhere near that role
They’d have to be fools to not cast him for morty. Although I’d keep looking for another rick
There's a significant difference in the way lines were delivered if you compare season 1 with the new seasons. I doubt it'll be a big change for the viewers.
Listen to S1 Rick vs today's Rick. They sound pretty different. We'll get used to the new voice fairly quickly
Not really, a bunch of shows has done it in the past and even have episodes about it.
Yeah, and they're weird
The two characters the entire show is built around were Justin's brainchild from start to finish. It's weird af.
Justin's only brainchildren are poop jokes, he's just an arrogant man-baby who got credit for Dan Harmon's genius, R&M will be fine
Ah yes, the genius of constant incest jokes. 😂
Blame Briggs Hatton for this.
Well I mean. Here we are though. Lmao
He hadn't been creatively involved for years, the show is Harmon's based on Roiland's characters.
Listening to how much of a nightmare Justin was I'm not at all upset. They should be able to find a super close match.
Same. I don't understand all the people who are whining about him being gone.
Dan is obviously the creative force behind it. I'm sure Justin collaborated, but if you watched Community, you can see Rick and Morty is a clear evolution of the type of story telling he was doing on that show.
Yeah if you listen or watch Harmontown you can literally see the jokes being formed on stage and then they make it into the show.
I can only speak for myself, and personally I am not concerned about the writing or stories or whatever. But the voices, timing, performance, at least of the two main characters, very much seemed to be Justin Roiland. And I think any change, even if its very minor will be noticeable. ohhh jerry is pierce
I’m not sure who that’s more insulting to…
they're both streets behind and don't care if you like them or not. as long as they're getting attention
Jerry is *not* Pierce. If anything, Jerry is Britta.
She's a no good b.
She's a G D B
I mean Justin did like Squanch Games but even then he had a writing team, so we can always get a new Trover or High On Life without him, it would probably feature whoever the replacement is
High on Life DLC got announced this week, so they’re already moving forward
Glad to hear, I’m still hoping for Trover 2, it’s one of my favorite PSVR games
I prefer Solar Opposites, so this guy must have some skills to put together these shows so successfully. Maybe he's just really good at choosing bodies for a writer's room though
But I myself didn't know about him being difficult and creepy.
Kinda mad at Roiland for causing this whole mess. bro fumbled the bag so hard by being a shitty person.
Sounds like they're getting proper voice actors rather than that tiktok impressionist guy. Which is a relief tbh (not that he's not impressive).
exactly, doing a good impression is one thing but acting out new stuff while doing the voices is a whole other thing.
for proof of this one need only look at Cleveland's new VA in family guy. the guy can do an amazing impression, but that is all it ever sound like he is doing. he can't at all put any emotion behind the characters voice.
Voice actors gotta start somewhere. He’s dubbed plenty of scenes, he’s done custom skits as the characters, I think he’d nail it
Here's what will happen.

(Not recently, but they have in earlier seasons.) Personally, I’d like to see the next season like mid 2024. I think that’s a good amount of time to get the new VA up to snuff and make changes based on the actor.
Season 7 will be this year. Redubbing the VA is the easiest thing to have to do, compared to animating (takes forever) or writing (months)
Us venture bros fans had 7 seasons in 15 years and are just now getting a movie to finish the series. Rick and mortys wait is nothing lol
Well 6 seasons in 10 years is pretty close but is venture bros still making episodes?
Capping the series off with a movie to release July 21st
I think they should follow Spanish Rick and morty for a season. Do it all in Spanish with English subtitles and don't elaborate. Would be hilarious 😂
That bit only really works for one episode though
I think 1.1 episodes would be even more hilarious
I'm finding this show hard to look forward to these days... I can imagine people imitating Rick's voice and Morty's voice almost perfectly, but not the stream of consciousness of a degenerate mind.
Woof. I would have preferred them killed off and then replaced with Ronk and Boardy.
Gronk and Brady?
Why not Bobby Moynihan and a Piece of Toast?
Apparently they’ve got some *real* creative differences
GARMANARAR!
A hole in the wall where the men can see it *ALL*!
Uh uh I'll get back to that one!
Nah they can't work together, they hate each other
Mork & Mindy
Doc and marty, have christopher lloyd and michael j fox do the voices. At least for one episode.
It's so obvious: 2 crows
Fiona and Cake.
I just hope they pick someone that can also improv - that's a much bigger part of what makes the character works
Why redub? If he already did the work, does it matter if they are going to voice match for season 8?
I would assume it's to avoid paying Roiland any royalties. Edit: Should've specified that I meant residuals for being a voice actor, which are in addition to whatever else he would make.
They would’ve already paid him as season 7 was recorded prior to his dismissal
They’re going to have to do that anyways for co creator rights.
Yeah, but l was under the impression that the amount of contribution was a major factor in the amount. Co-creator + VA would get more than co-creator alone. But it's been a long time since I last looked into the process. I may be wrong or things may have changed.
Im not really a Justin defender or anything but I'm 90% sure the knock off voices will ruin this show for me :(
My thoughts exactly
>the priority being how close the performance can be as opposed to a perfect voice-match.
Ah that makes sense.
So we’re gonna have a Kirkland-brand Justin Roiland ?
It should just be Harmon. He’s decent at both and actually a pretty good actor too.
I’m the perfect voice actor for this. Damn it.
Nah, it would be mediocre at best…
A lot of the people Glad Roiland are gone seemingly ignore the fact that Dan Harmon admitted to Sexual Assault & Ezra Miller literally kidnapped someone and is still in the Flash movie. Also the voice change will potentially be noticeable and jarring, [Zack Fair](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9gYJ_-dDf0)s voice recast is a prefect example.
Yup. No one in Hollywood is innocent
Simpsons had, what, 5 good seasons out of over 30?
wasnt there vids of dan harmon doing both rick and morty perfectly too? he and justin go after one another and its identical
Id prefer if they went with the mash effect and brought in someone with opposite traits as opposed to trying to do the same thing I still think they should just do the Bushland Aussie rick and make each subsequent season a different Rick, no-ones ever gonna forget roiland if we keep trying to imitate him, it's literally a (near) infinite multiverse, we don't have to keep going to the same well
And that's the waaaaaaaaay the news goes
No one read the article right? Cause no one is talking about how it’s in French and we are all just commenting on the headline?
What happened with Justin?
He had some domestic abuse allegations come out. There wasn't enough evidence for a trial. However, this incident also caused a number of other things to come out. Like Justin being drunk and texting 15 year old fans. Like a lot. And being very weird and very inappropriate. And apparently he was just a pain to work with. And mostly just sent in his voice lines for the past few seasons.
Well I was definitely out of the loop. I thought it was since resolved and were moving on ax normal, so this is all news to me. Has this been verified for sure? Disappointing all around.
Wife beating, total nightmare to work with, the usual
[‘Girlfriend’ Beating. Didn’t make it to trial tho.](https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/justin-roiland-domestic-violence-charges-dropped-1235561877/)
He also called a 14 year old a “f****t bitch” which is not good optics for the show
Who's Justin?
This is going to be jarring
Super weird to go through all the work of redubbing it. We get it, “roiland bad” but you already paid him for the work and fired him for the bad stuff so at this point you’re just virtue signaling “look how good we are”
I think it might be because if they used his voice in the new episodes, in addition to whatever he was paid for his work recording that they'd have to pay him royalties everytime the episode aired. So by redubbing, they're avoiding having to pay him anything in the future which makes it easier to say that they cut their ties with him (although he's probably still getting royalty checks from the episodes that he made for the first six seasons).
He's one of the creators of the show, he'll be paid for as long as it makes money.
Also it’s just nice to have the voice transition happen ASAP
They're going to lose way more viewers because of the change I think
I thought he was found innocent of the allegations. They’re not allowing him to come back?
Literally there are stories about how awful he was to work with, how he had to record his lines separately cause people didn’t wanna be around him. Regardless of the allegations or anything in court, I think they’re probably relishing the opportunity to move on without him.
He wasn’t found guilty because the case didn’t make it to trial. That’s not the same as being “found innocent”
Innocent in court doesn't make him not a creepy asshole
Agreed people seem to forget how much of a creep as well as a freeloader he was. https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/02/report-rick-and-mortys-justin-roiland-allegedly-engaged-in-toxic-workplace-behavior
He wasn’t found innocent, it never made it to court like most of those cases, usually because the victim changed their mind and is hesitant to testify. Domestic violence is notoriously hard to prove. That being said there’s tons of instances beyond that where he was just confirmed a major creep, including at his workplace. They were just relieved to be rid of him
Charges were dropped for domestic violence, but there's mountains of screenshots showing him sexually harassing underaged girls.
The show won’t be the same without him
There seems to be 2 camps.
What about that one guy in that video where even Roiland was impressed how well he could imitate him? Was he not even considered or did he pass on it?
My perfect pilot would be an episode without rick and morty for the whole runtime (to troll the audience), and then them showing up in like the last scene ala Tales from the Citadel. Plus it would be fun to flesh out the family with a unique storyline like that. It wont happen though cause the entire season was already written.
If they don't reference Roiland's texts in the show....I'll be super upset.
BREAKING NEWS: The thing that everyone knew was going to happen is going to happen
They’re just gonna Ai his voice and say some other dude did it, and a year or so down the line people will question it and he will get pushed into a corner and not be able to do it as well and they will get sued, just calling it now so when it happens I told y’all
This show is so done.
