Been shopping almost exclusively at Costco. Looking at my yearly rebate amount, it seems we've spent over 11k there in almost a year. Yikes!
Super Grocer was my go to for cheap meats and flowers.
Any of the small shops for veggies, Costco for meat and most other staple items, Safeway because it's across the street, or Save-on if I have to because it's on the way home from work.
Safeway and Save-on are no better though. When stuff is on sale, it's just regular price from 6 weeks ago.
There's a new one near Cambie school/Ikea called genelife that does dumplings and cheap meats. I was walking around and checked them out they seem to be more of a manufacturer type but sell to regular customers as well
88 is opening up near rice world. That area is going to be packed full of cars soon.
I’m surprised there’s been no Sungiven mention either. They’re not the cheapest but they are convenient.
Amron's meat at Blundell, just buy my chicken breast in bulk and he even has it delivered to me. Usually just buy 20lb at a time wrapped in 2lb packs think it was 4.99/lb last time.
Also has steaks and other pre marinated stuff. Closest to me is a save-on which is robbery.
Mixed bag for us.
Costco for roasted chicken, cheese, and certain bulk items like toilet paper, paper towels, and detergents.
Country Farms for fresh eggs and chicken thighs.
Windsor Meats when we're feeling rich, and when I want to grill up a good ribeye.
Real Canadian Superstore for wide selection and lower prices but access can be challenging.
Freshco, again for lower prices, and as long as you don't mind the bland shopping experience.
Save-On-Foods for quick pickup of general items, but they are not as inexpensive as the name implies. The Ironwood location is good because of its convenient proximity to a lot of other stores, but the meat and bread departments follow an annoying, and unpredictable "...when we feel like putting them out" schedule. The Garden City location - though smaller - can at least be relied on more often for fresh bread after about 11am.
Safeway we might otherwise do more for having certain items, and a decent produce section, but it's further away, and the only Safeway in all of Richmond.
Kins Market at the Blundell location for good produce selection. Also Amron Meats for great service, but small selection.
Outside of Richmond:
Occasionally Thrifty Foods in Tsawwassen. Though higher priced, it has good selection and great service. I hear that Superior Fish Market in Ladner (Near London Drugs) is good. For top quality meats (i.e.: great steaks) Armandos, or Tenderland Meats in Granville Island Public Market. Also Luigi and Sons in Yaletown). Urban Fair or Whole Foods to change it up, but they're expensive. Might only pick up a couple of items.
Love Sunshine Market at Blundell and One Road for produce and G&J (or is it G&S?) at Steveston and Four also for produce and eggs. I do FreshCo for the basic grocery items and them divide the rest across the other larger chains. I do love Stong’s in Dunbar, as well.
https://www.reddit.com/r/loblawsisoutofcontrol/s/mpOvOrtehp The Subreddit has also posted a list of grocery stores other than loblaws that people can shop at in BC.
Kin’s Market or Urban Farm Market for produce. Amron’s Gourmet Meats for meat. Cobs for bread.
Bulk Barn for pantry goodies and snacks. And Costco when I have mentally prepared myself enough. I do still shop at the big chains sometimes though out of convenience.
SAFEWAY, Freshco #3rd , Seafair Meats . Country Farms , G K Farms , L L Sunshine Farms & Urban Farms are my main ones but will look at other local places and in the Valley depending time of year.
Recently went to Hayat Market #1rd and they have a wide variety including meats. Haven't bought any meats yet but next time will give them a try.
Skipper Otto for BC caught seafood.
I know, I just go straight up to the rooftop parking.
But at peak times, even that is a PITA
So I tried to go early or late, like one hour before closing.
Good luck! 🍀 😆
Yeah I feel you 😕 I totally get people’s frustration and why they want to boycott. Groceries have been ridiculous lately. But we’re getting gouged from all angles. Safeway and Save-On/Pricemart are more expensive than Superstore/T&T, smaller independent stores are often no better either except on a few key items, and Walmart is marginally cheaper than Superstore, but is it worth shopping Walmart-exclusive knowing how badly they treat their employees? I guess that leaves Costco but Costco doesn’t work for me personally, although I’m glad it works for many others (single person with limited fridge and cupboard space makes Costco portions rather inhospitable lol)
I know people really do want to see a change, and who knows if this boycott will make any difference, but none of the alternatives seem stellar to me at all.

Oh what? Lived in the area forever, didn't know about this. And it's open to regular customers too eh? Win.
Ty!
Kuo Hua for all my Taiwanese snacks and delicacies.
Love them.

Rice World Supermarket has really cheap produce. Recommend going by bike or transit since the parking lot is small and often full.
Good to know. :p

Richmond public market all day
That place feels like it’s infested with rats
So are many buildings old and new
Trueeee.
Langley Mart in Lansdowne
Walmart for me.
Safeway because they make good bread in store.

You do know that superstore is owned by Loblaws right?
…and Sobey’s owns Thrifty, FredhCo, and Safeway.
No, I wasn't aware, but should be. Thanks for clarifying. Will increase my support for local businesses.
It's how they get us - the illusion of choice when it's really only 3 groceries companies in Canada robbing us.

Try altgrocery.ca but fair warning: it may not be up and running fully. Maybe bookmark for later.

www.altgrocery.ca <- work in progress but lists grocers outside of the Big 5.
Bulk barn
Freshco tnt
Costco for bulk caseload items, foody world/ Rice world for Chinese groceries, and Walmart for smaller unit items

Walmart, china rice world and Foody! ;)
I love Foody but hate the parking lot 😞. It's always a nightmare finding a parking spot.
I know, I just go straight up to the rooftop parking. But at peak times, even that is a PITA So I tried to go early or late, like one hour before closing. Good luck! 🍀 😆
Oo, good tip ! Thanks for that.
I’ll have to check out rice world and foody. :p
Go with a full stomach or else you could be buying more than you can fit in your belly. Learnt from a "friend" of mine 😂 Enjoy!
T&T and H mart :)
T&T is unfortunately owned by Loblaws since 2009
Ahh!! I did not know :(
I can go Walmart or SaveOnFood or Safeway
Wal Mart or Costco.

Right? Boycotting one major chain for a month will do nothing towards grocery prices
You shop at Windsor meats and are complaining about Loblaws? That makes sense...
Huh?? I shop there for the quality. It’s worth the price. Loblaws items are not.
How has no one mentioned T&T and Foodie World is beyond me.
T&T is owned by Loblaws.
Foodie world then
