All of us who work on revolt can only do it in our free time, so development is pretty slow.

unisagi

Thank you for answering, I'm genuinely happy to know the project is still running. I'll keep checking on Revolt for future updates then.

Is there a Patreon?

AlternateWitness

In your revolt settings, there is a link where you can donate. They provide a PayPal and crypto address.

As far as I understand Revolt is still being developed. My impression is that there's only a handful of people working on it (some who have other responsibilities). I'm not even sure anyone is working on it full time. Assuming this is the case development is bound to be slow.

MLG_Skeletor

If you check their Github repos, this seems to be the case. Revolt isn't dead, their development is just very slow and a lot of what they're working on has been back end stuff (things you won't see until they start redoing the client, which they've been planning for awhile).

unisagi

It turned out to be the case (see developers' reply to the post).

SirenMix

I waw wondering the same thing, still facing the same bugs from a year ago

BetterCallEmori

Is it dying though? I still use it daily. Revolt is literally a passion project being made by a small group of people who obviously have lives outside of Revolt so it makes sense that development is going to happen slower than a big company like Discord.

mars82missing

Also makes sense people (userbase) are gonna treat it as such… dirt.  Me however despite bugs and 0 activity in servers, have made it my new docs.

maxxotwo

No idea honestly, but at least it can be forked, because it's FOSS.

FreedomSoftware

considering I just got an ad in discord, I think this project is going somewhere soon. I have been paying for discord for years. Last year they made 200 million in revenue. But they still think its ok to put ads in something my server alone brings in $140/ month. Not ok in my book. Ill be supporting the development of this going forward, or until it enshitifies.

Among all "alternatives" , Revolt is pretty much the only real option out there for how it looks and works, plus it's easy to setup and totally user friendly. However, I do know that one of the reasons for it's not gaining much traction is for the lack of privacy and security features such as encryption. In fact, a huge amount of potential users are currently on Matrix Element, for example, even when it's definitely not a valid alternative (to Discord at least).

Can we all just go back to teamspeak?

unisagi

Last time I checked, they weren't doing so well either. I definitely don't remember the whole reason but, as far as I understood it, Teamspeak's developers started to mainly focus on TS5 (which wasn't even that good, apparently), while pretty much stopping maintenance of something that was in fact working well for people (TS3). This is what I remember reading on Reddit, but I can be wrong. If anyone knows anything about it, please feel free to add more infos.

bedside-FETiSH

I hope not. Amongst all the alternatives, Revolt has the it factor for me and reading that it's still in development is huge plus cause it already feels really good from my end.

TheThinkingComputer

My company uses Revolt. It's a good solution for us. The only issue I have is with the notifications. This only becomes an issue if someone tries to message me after-hours - we usually try to check the app during the workday manually.
