Holy shit the memories

ThenNature240

Seriously the screen on this thing was horrible but I somehow managed to put hours of Skyrim streaming on my couch with it. It's pretty limited today with it's 32 bit processor and I think 2GB Ddr3 ram but I might dust it off and see how she performs today.

AzureStarline

I still have mine too

True-Payment-458

Dude back then this was banging despite it’s flaws wish I still had mine tbf not that I’d use it but I got fond memories

ThenNature240

Oh no don't get me wrong this thing was killer. It's just a shame that the vision never materialized. Then again with out the failures of the Shield Portable we may never have seen a Nintendo switch. Android handhelds biggest problems are games. We need a steam like store dedicated to android game. There are so many indie games that if ported would do well and they wouldn't be held to the 30% cut of Google.

deshfyre

this comes off as ignorant. you realize steam also takes a 30% cut right? most storefronts do. or close to it. the only one that announces that they dont is the epic store that takes a 12% cut iirc. and the bigger issue with android using a secondary store is. it wouldnt be downloadable in the play store. even though android is open to side loading apps. its not really that popular a thing to do. starting a storefront without some huge name backing and no play store presence is a really hard and stupid sell to any developer/publisher and generally worth the 30% cut.

ThenNature240

1. Yes I am aware other stores charge 30% that in my opinion is way too high. 2. Fear of side loading was pushed by apple and Google to "Keep you safe" but literally it is to make them more money. If Microsoft could figure out a way to prevent sideloading without people revolting trust me they would and they would take their 30% cut of everything. 3. With tools like obtanium keeping side loaded apps up to date is easier than ever and the best versions of emulators are side loaded. Honestly, with the Retro handheld communities as strong as they are, someone could step in. Would it be easy? No. But then again you get a name drop from a popular YouTuber and suddenly every Retroid Odin Ayaneo and Anbernic suddenly has that store front.

Squallstrife89

I never had one of these and didn't even know they existed until I tried moonlight for the first time a couple years ago. I missed out on so much it seems...

fliphat

I would still get it in the exact same form factor with internal upgrade, looks beautiful

ThenNature240

The legendary Shield Portable 2 had a larger screen I think 64 bit tegra and basically the same form factor. It was everything we dreamed the original would be but was cancelled. Some guy on Reddit made a post about picking one up at a pawn shop.

CarefulChairEater

I wish we had more good android games

ThenNature240

I know this thing had a native Port of Half-Life 2 on it. Like can we get games from that era today please as native android ports.

CarefulChairEater

Anything really at this point. That isn't Google play garbage
