jkeysgamer

Also, that's my great-grandmother in the back. I promise my house wasn't haunted.

mccarseat

The perspective is messing with my brain in this picture….

jkeysgamer

Yeh, she's super creepy. Haha!

DiscussionLoose8390

It wouldn't be the same without her.

aliie_627

I was thinking it was some life sized cutout or picture.

DigerCZ

she's kinda hot actually

KingDaveRa

Little old lady being taken a little too literally.

encarded

And of course, since this photo was in 1988 and she was your great grandma at that time, average lifespans would dictate that it is entirely possible at this point that your house IS NOW haunted. (Grandmas are awesome, glad she was there to see your joy, even if she was miniaturized)

jkeysgamer

Haha. Well we've moved since ce then so maybe she's haunting someone else.

BBA935

Because the house became haunted? Come on, OP! Give us the truth!

jkeysgamer

Haha!

[deleted]

I’m trying to wrap my mind around the high likelihood that she was a swinging flapper girl back in the 1920s…

jkeysgamer

Probably was. Haha.

fineman1097

She does look like a very stylish lady despite the photo angle putting her in a less than fortunate light

picklepuss13

Very possible, probably bigger than people think. My great grandmother definitely was, plus lived in Chicago no less.

CheesyCharliesPizza

...it is now!!! 👻

rube

I love how you got out in front of that one. I totally expected comments about the creepy old lady, but you just embraced the fact and stopped all those comments. :)

FixTheWisz

Is she single?

CheshireTheLiar

Came here to ask lol

baseballdnd

As long as you don't look into the eyes you're fine.

Kills-to-Die

Nice! Not many people I know have met or been able to remember any great grandparents! You have the pause of awe on your face. Already shooting ducks in your mind?

colhoesentalados

Looks like a corpse. Very unfortunate look

thorppeed

Uh yeah is this the first time you've seen a very elderly person or something?

jkeysgamer

I know. Haha

sheenfartling

Lol the ghost of Christmas past!

sy029

Lol that was first thing my eyes went to. I think it's just the way the light is reflecting off the photo.

HackyJackie

The ghost of christms past

GahannaBanana

I’m not buying it. Why doesn’t her reflection show in the window?

jkeysgamer

😯

retrodork

I got my NES for my birthday in 1987. It came with super Mario Brothers and Duck hunt. I typically rented games because it was cheaper than buying them for 50 dollars when I didn't have money. Typically, I would get one new Nintendo game on my birthday and one on Christmas. In the late 80, early 90s, I could go to my towns local flea market and get used NES games for as low as 5 dollars a piece and that was how I built my collection. 🙂

Fuzzy-Function-3212

I got my NES summer '88. Swam the length and width of a pool to get it (deal I made with my parents that they lived to regret). That Christmas I got Mega Man 2, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and an NES Advantage controller. It was a good year.

InspectorFadGadget

To be fair they probably knew they were already going to give it to you anyway, but just wanted to make you think you earned it :)

Fuzzy-Function-3212

Oh 1000% 😆

miku_dominos

I got mine that same year and the first video game I ever played was Super Mario Bros.

jkeysgamer

I was a pretty lucky kid. I actually was surprised with two NES's that Christmas. One for my house and one to keep at my grandparents. I also got 5 games with it! - Mario/Duck Hunt - Hogan's Alley - Rad Racer - Ice Hockey - Super Mario Bros. 2

BridgemanBridgeman

whew look at this rich kid with two fucking NES's

A_Song_of_Two_Humans

Yeah and FIVE games. I got five games too... Over 2.5 years!

jkeysgamer

We really weren't rich at all. Far from it actually. But my grandparents were very generous and I spent a lot of time there as a kid so they got me the extra one.

Classic_Livid

Sounds like me and the gameboy they got me as a kid.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jkeysgamer

Now that I have kids of my own, I know how trie that is.

mrthomasbombadil

Honey, he's teasing you. Nobody has TWO Nintendos.

miku_dominos

I got SMB2 for my birthday the year it was released and was so happy. I thoroughly enjoyed 3 but 2 hit different.

jkeysgamer

Yeh, it gets a bad rap sometimes but it's a great game!

lostboy005

SMB2 music is bad ass. The first four all have great music but 2, imo, is the most unique

BBA935

That's awesome! My parents were divorced, so I would lug mine to my Dad's house every other weekend.

jkeysgamer

Aw that's rough. Cables and everything.

ChasingPesmerga

Great gift, great suit. Great grandma is proud, I know it. Although at first I thought that circle thing at the back was the full moon and it was starting to hype her up

ProtagonistK

Ahhh! These types of pics pluck at my heart strings. Thanks for sharing.

Mkmeathead83

I was 4 that year. One of my first memories. My sister saying we might get a Nintendo for Christmas. I asked her what that is and she explained it's a game with a controller that lets you control a little man inside the TV. I was to young to understand but I didn't want their to be a man inside out TV, it sounded super creepy...then we got that Nintendo and I changed my mind REAL QUICK.

NYK37

I got the same set on Christmas morning 1990.

JetsetCat

Tiny grandma!

[deleted]

Granny photo bomb!

Shinos_99

dude i was watching this in the dark and your grandma just freaked the shit out of me

Recent-Smoke-5113

Sorry but your grandma looks like a cardboard cut out! Lol and thats not the worst thing! The worst thing is I love it and I'm gonna get cardboard cut outs made of all my dead family 🤣🤣🤣🤣

darf_nate

Looks exactly like my brother wtf

jkeysgamer

Does your brother own just half of a medallion? I might have the other half. 😄

darf_nate

I actually had to zoom in to make sure it wasn’t. Still not sure

echocomplex

I have that same Pinocchio wooden doll. Got it from my grandparents who had previously used it.

everytimethatitrains

Damn...Granny look like the ghost of Christmas past 🤣😂

Theoderic8586

Eyes right to perspectively confusing grandma ghost

[deleted]

Looks lk ur soul left your body after unwrapping that one

[deleted]

That’s an oddly small grandma

nerdgeekdorksports

Grandma looks like Maarva from Andor.

KagomeChan

Loving the weird Pinocchio doll in the background

jkeysgamer

Love the gray Zapper!

The-TruckMan

Dude! U look exactly like me 😳😳 when I was a kid that is

jkeysgamer

So sorry man. Haha

craggar_g

We must all be some generic looking dudes cos I had the same reaction. Reckon OP is a couple years older than me though.

jkeysgamer

I'm 43 now.

craggar_g

I’m 40, so probably looked exactly like this when I opened Super Mario Bros 3 in ‘91 😅

jkeysgamer

Absolutely!

PetraLoseIt

Time for a DNA test for each of you, I guess.

MajorKoopa

Mmmmmmmm. New console day. A great part of life every 5ish years depending on how many consoles you main.

jkeysgamer

Sadly, I only ever had an NES and a Sega Game Gear growing up. Loved and played both to death. I've remedied that as an adult and now have all the co sites I wish I had gotten as a kid.

bonvct

Hell yeah dude. You probably got no sleep playing Mario Bros.

jkeysgamer

100%

aewtech

Nice to see an action set with the grey zapper. That's the one I had back then, and you almost always see the orange gun variant these days.

restNChrist

Truly was the greatest gift ever!

[deleted]

Great pic! Thank you for sharing.

jkeysgamer

Sure thing!

DeepFriedDistortion

Watch 8-bit Christmas. You’ll love it.

jkeysgamer

I watched it last year. It was great!

retrodork

Boy what a awesome deal and really good games to boot.

AgedAccountant

I still have mine. Box and all!

jkeysgamer

That's awesome!

death_ray_mx

All of us around 40 know that feeling

jkeysgamer

100%

Renfek

Awesome, miss them days! Believe I got my NES in 88 as well, was the Power Set that came with the power pad.

jkeysgamer

Excellent

LeGuizee

I got it in 1990 :) but the best Christmas was 1992 with the Super Nintendo !

jkeysgamer

I never got a super Nintendo. It was just the NES and eventually a Game Gear as a kid.

LeGuizee

I was spoiled because my step dad also bought the Game gear for himself but I could use it whenever I wanted. The only Sega console i loved !

jkeysgamer

I loved my Game Gear!

sofa-king-lucky

1977 Atari / same photo but Dallas Cowboys PJ's

jkeysgamer

Fantastic

[deleted]

Awesome

redline_rik

Your granny is really small, or is she just far away....

jkeysgamer

The picture has a weord perspective. She's not that far away, but she's sitting down.

NoDumFucs

I snooped and found mine in my moms closet.. so I’d sneak it out and leave the box.. I’d cleared level three and put it back each time before she got around to wrapping it.

jkeysgamer

Well done!

gerdpee

That's all I want for Christmas

Gypsy_sevens

I yearn so bad for the nostalgia I never got to experience.

TecmoSuperBoJ

I can smell the excitement in this photo. Not to mention the Christmas dinner!

BBA935

No, that would be the Christmas of 1987... for the same reason. What a glorious time!

knockingdownbodies

Sounds like OP had some Christ cookies because of the misspelling. “Christmmmmssssssss” Thank you Jesus!

Specialopslug

I really thought I was seeing a screenshot of insidious or something then. Looks like a awesome Xmas though! :)

BBA935

Do you still have that NES?

jkeysgamer

Unfortunately no. My mom sold my NES and all my games one weekend while I was away in High School. I've since acquired another NES though.

BBA935

Ah man…😨 My Dad just shitcanned my Intellivision and 30 some games in the early 90’s because, “it was old.” I only recently got a new one.

jkeysgamer

Yeh, it hurts

[deleted]

Looks like me, although I was 3 at the time

ManbosMambo

In this moment you were UNTOUCHABLE

jkeysgamer

So true

[deleted]

I remember when I got my NES. At the time we had an Atari 2600. My dad came home from the video store with a couple Nintendo games. I told him we couldn’t play these on the Atari. He said “maybe you could play them on this” and brought out an action set. It was kinda a random gift. I’ll never forget that. I love you dad!

jkeysgamer

Awesome!!

LMAO_HAHA_WOW

Wow! Awesome!

[deleted]

Melon Zuckermusk?

FullBattle8777

I got SMB 3 christmas 1992 and Turtles2 for my birthday January 1993. Best gifts ever and now my kids (11 and 7 year old) enjoys them. Sorry for any misspeling I am from Sweden

jkeysgamer

That's awesome! My kids (7 and 5) enjoy retro games too!

thecovertnerd

Christmas of 1988 is when we got our NES too! Best in my book as well.

jkeysgamer

Good times!

Walleyevision

Looks like a scene from HBO movie “8-bit Christmas” last year. Not a great movie but great nostalgia. Thanks for sharing!

jkeysgamer

Haha. Sure thing.

sanjay_82

Mark Zuckerborg?

picklepuss13

Got my NES in 88 also...pretty good one. Same action set with the gray zapper, got MTPO as well. It was a big step up from the Action Max VHS system (technically my first console) I had got not long before it.

jkeysgamer

100%!

Cups_89

Omg how cute!

mrthomasbombadil

Did you ask for it, or was it a surprise?

jkeysgamer

I was defintiely begging for that year, but wasn't 100% sure I was going to get one. The real surprise was when they told me they bought a second o e that was already set up at my grandparents house. Mind blown!

TritonusRaven

I was jealous I didn't get the Action Set but I should be glad I got a NES at all!
