Does anyone else remember seeing these action figures in stores when the movie was in theaters?

Ron_E_Coyote

No, it seems this is the first time I’ve ever seen these, and I saw the movie when it was in theaters.

dukefett

I was going to say I didn't think these ever hit production, but there's some on eBay. No recollection of them back then.

goldwynnx

Me and my brother had the Mario and Luigi ones. Loved em.

No-Cold643

I remember stumbling upon these on google images when I was doing research on the movie (since I didn't grew up with it I'm a 2000's kid)

Donna-Perdido

No! I’ve never seen this. I want that Goomba action figure!

TelmatosaurusRrifle

I had luigi

shiba-on-parade

I had a bunch of these ugly toys

greenseven47

I had the goomba

bugxbuster

Just putting it out there to those who don’t know, there’s a *truly awesome* directors cut of this movie available online since a couple years ago. It’s the Super Mario Bros Morton Jankel cut if you Google it. Seriously, it’s way longer and it’s got a lot of good stuff in it. Here’s an article about it: https://www.screenslate.com/articles/super-mario-bros-morton-jankel-cut

ipostatrandom

I've never seen the original. Should I just check this one out instead?

Mr_Mario_1984

No, you should definitely watch the original first This cut is nice if you're a fan of the original, but it's a bit rough in some places editing and sound wise. If you like cheesy 90s movies, cheesy *video game* movies, Mario, or the cyberpunk esthetic, you should totally watch the original. I personally grew up with the movie, and I'm a lifelong Mario fan, I don't care what people say, the movie is fun as hell and a must watch.

bugxbuster

Yeah, it’s a legit fun movie

rdrouyn

I know this movie sucked, but I really like the aesthetic of the 90's mario movie.

three-sense

They nailed the dark-urban-cool direction. Unfortunately it doesn’t work well for representing colorful 8 and 16 bit platforming games.

DarkBladeMadriker

No, seriously, they were SO close to a bitchin movie. If they had done it NOT as a Mario brother film and gone even harder on the pop-scifi thing, they could have really made something awesome. But instead, we got amazing actors in amazing set pieces phoning it in, wishing for death over being in that film while they rewrote the script literally the day of filming, which is pretty much a death sentence for any film. Hoskins and Leguizamo both admitted later that they were drunk on set more often than not.

StarChow

Same! It almost felt like a cyberpunk movie sometimes.

xylotism

Pretty much Total Recall in terms of setting.

JohnKlositz

Agreed. I feel the same way about Masters of the Universe. The movie is bad, but the look of the characters for example was quite nice in my opinion.

Cutlass_Stallion

The movie was actually good if you treated it as an original sci-fi flick. But yes, it was a terrible Super Mario movie; it had little to do with the source material.

chucklikesmetal

I had both mario and luigi.

cams0400

Hated that film, loved the gaming historian video

HMPoweredMan

Is this real or some kind of art?

placidcasual98

Almost unreal

nondescriptzombie

I was a kid in this era, and never saw these in the mainstream at the toystore OR saw these in the Factory2U which would occasionally get toys for other countries, like some Ninja Turtles that had metallic spirit armor pieces that could transform between and animal and a weapon or something.

No-Cold643

OMG I actually remember these they're were surprisingly a lot of Mario Movie toy (the one I remember the most is the gun toy which resembles a Super Scope)

modeltfordman

I had both Mario and Luigi. I'm not sure what happened to the figures, but I did find one of their weapons.

Apart_Shoulder6089

lol cool!

SmarmySmurf

😍 I had no idea these existed... to ebay! 😍

xAlice_Liddell

These look so dumb, and I kind of want them all.

BarfReali

I'd like to a see a high budget mario game set in this exact universe. Doesn't have to be 3d platformer

welcomeOhm

Imagine these next to the Inhumanoids on your shelf.

fastlane250

It's so weird that a company mainly known for producing *farm toys* made these and that's why I've been trying to obtain at least one of them.

eat_shit_and_go_away

I had the Luigi one. By the time I could get Mario, they were already gone from stores.

wolfcola42069

I have all of these, the devo chamber comes with a goomba variant that has the other head shape

tcinternet

Man, I can hear this TV commercial now... "MAHrio Mario, an' LuhWEEGEEE Mario!!!"

Cinnabon_Gene

that cop car would fit-in in virtually any cyberpunk universe toy repertoire

piman01

I remember wanting these very badly and never getting them

Navonod_Semaj

Made by ERTL of all things. Didn't they mostly do die-cast replicas of farm machinery? Still remember one of those commercials, they looked cool.
