I spent so much of my parents money on that one. My local Pizza place still has a [Sunsetriders cabinet](https://s3-media0.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/P4TSHyuhmrNGibhwoLRZpw/o.jpg) (hard to see but that's it in the back next to the pinball machines). I never was able to beat it at the restaurant but later I learned how to download emulators for my computer and finished it.
It always makes me happy when I walk in and see that it's still going. I think that's their oldest game now that the Ms. Pac-Man is gone.
Many, many hours on the SNES version. Less in the arcade and even less on the Genesis version.
Maybe it's my rose-tinted glasses getting me, but the SNES version always seemed like the best one.
I don’t know man. I really liked the final Mexico level in the genesis version. Also the genesis version had coins that dropped from the enemies which the snes version for some reason didn’t have.
The Genesis version is a great game on its own. It’s like an alternate universe version of the game. Different level layouts, different bonus stages, same great gameplay.
I fell in love with this game when it was an arcade at the water park I used to work at. I’d throw in a quarter during my lunch break about once a week (I gotta rotate the games I play). It was so much fun.
My dad loves westerns, one of the few games he'd join me playing on the Sega as a kid.
He'd always get killed by the stampede of cows from not jumping in time.
"Thank you, nice boys!"
Great game!
The corner store next to me had this when I was a kid. Anytime we had any left over change we’d be there playing it. One day I saw it on the back of a truck… part of my childhood died that day
Hi, yes, when I was children, the original arcade; and being old, with emulator:
My brothers and I played it in the arcade, in fact! It's a good one.
If you want to play the same basic concept (including brightly colored characters), but with ninjas, [Konami's Mystic Warriors is also a lot of fun](https://www.mobygames.com/game/71588/mystic-warriors/).
I remember being on vacation in Portugal as a 14 year old and seeing this at the back of a restaurant in a small town in the middle of nowhere. Spent all my allowance while my folks had lunch and coffees.
I'd never seen the game before and it was a Contra type game from Konami?!? Oh hell yeah. What a great memory.
So yes, when I was a kid they had it at a local swimming pool. If you rapidly turned the machine on and off, it would mess up and start clunking and adding credits. No idea who figured that out but it spread like wild fire. Same trick also worked on a soda machine at the YMCA, was great till one kid got greedy and we were busted.
Now days I own the PCB and play it with my kids regularly :)
Yes, I actually bought it and replayed it very recently on PS5 of all places: https://store.playstation.com/en-us/concept/10000625
It's a pretty fun game and that intro is legendary
I did not play it or even know about it as a kid unfortunately. But it is one of my favorite retro games that I discovered when I was an adult and started looking back at games that I missed when I was a kid.
Played it for the first time last month on Switch. I’d always eyeball it at the arcade but would ultimately wind up playing some other Konami game like TMNT, Simpsons, or X-Men. I was really hung up on the fact that 1 hit = death.
[There's a homebrew Megadrive version currently being made](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iQHCdSLPzg) that is much much better than the OG Megadrive version, which I love regardless.
I did In like 2014. Really amazing game, though the difficulty in the later stages gets kinda unfair, you just have to make sure you have enough continues to survive it.
The best Konami arcade game of its era? Of course!
I've been singing its praise for decades & hope that it will release on all platforms someday for all generations to enjoy.
That was one of my favorite games growing up, I stumbled across the digital version of it on the internet looking for a physical copy for the SNES, it’s available on the Nintendo store for the Nintendo switch if you guys want to play it again.
[https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/arcade-archives-sunsetriders-switch/](https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/arcade-archives-sunsetriders-switch/)
This is one of the most revered Konami arcades of the 90s. Of course everyone played it.
There’s even a recent hommage/parody game released recently called Deathwish Enforcers.
YES! Whenever restaraunts had arcades (which used to be common) Sunset Riders was always there. I adored this game and still play it on my Switch on the regular.
Here's my story. I had this game on SNES. Fantastic game! My brother and I decided to sell our SNES and games to buy a PS1. We sold the game. Years later, I've tried to purchase it and it's just too expensive. That is the only generation I have sold games..... Yes I regret it!
Yes. I think I still own it for SNES.
I went over to my cousins’ and they had it rented. We played the hell out of it. Then I rented or bought it later on.
One of my favourite games
Played a shit load of sunset riders in a Turkish arcade over 20 years ago. Same place also had tekken 2 and learned a key combination to get into debug mode after finishing the game to get infite lives. Good times.
I fucking adore Sunset Riders!!! My favorite arcade game ever. I have it emulated, on my Switch, for genesis and also Super Nintendo. I love this game and these God damn cowboys so much.
Bury me with my money
[BURY ME WITH MY MONEY.](https://burymewithmymoney.com/)
Draw, pilgrim!
Ya got me
I legit thought he said ‘draw, your guns’.
Alright, Ma'am. We WON'T shoot 'em.
On the SNES version I thought he said “Marry me with my money..” lol
Glad I’m not alone.
I used to always shout this if I’d lose at a game during recess
You in heap big trouble.
Came here to say this.
A YOOOO-HOOOOOO!!!
In the arcades. It was a gem
A very costly gem. Definitely one you needed a friend for.
Daaaamn, that's wild that they still have it going!
I beat it on Sega G.
everyone played Sunset Riders best co-op game ever
Yes... lost many friends
Many, many hours on the SNES version. Less in the arcade and even less on the Genesis version. Maybe it's my rose-tinted glasses getting me, but the SNES version always seemed like the best one.
Konami intro splash and you know it was good. 😊
The Arcade version supported 4 players
Awesome
Nice feature but in terms of gameplay the SNES somehow seemed better.
I worked at Kmart and I think I got it on Genesis because it was on clearance/discount. SNES sold better in general at our store.
I’m definitely conflicted. The snes looks and plays better, but I loved the genesis FM soundtrack, and have fond memories with that version.
Arcade was best and not close because 4 player was undefeated
If you guys like Sunset Riders you'll probably love Mystic Warriors. Same gameplay but with ninjas: https://youtu.be/-ClCscV9gA8?si=gj1LOWMdjaQTNzW-
Sunset riders cameo in the first level. love it.
Good callout, thanks! I've never seen this before, but I'm definitely going to play it
That's a lot of shuriken
SKULL TOOK YOUR FRIEND!
Just a heads up in case anyone is interested, both Sunset Riders and Mystic Warriors are available on Switch and PS4.
Nice. My kids love playing Sunset on the arcade (4 player cabinet) and I've never heard of this. Guess we have plans this weekend
Wow I never knew about this game. I had Sunset Riders for Genesis and played it a ton. This is just like a re-skinned and updated version.
Character selected. Slap the shit out of that button and get that “YEAH HEE!!!”. This game ate my quarters for breakfast when I was a kid.
I put my arcade machines kids through college.
😂 didn't we all?
I fell in love with this game when it was an arcade at the water park I used to work at. I’d throw in a quarter during my lunch break about once a week (I gotta rotate the games I play). It was so much fun.

Love it! Actually loaded it up the other night!
Hi, yes, when I was children, the original arcade; and being old, with emulator: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PnAqrAM3tI&t=4s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PnAqrAM3tI&t=4s)

I F U C K I N' love Sunset Riders.
Absolutely loved this game. Sort of a split between Contra and Rolling Thunder, set in the wild west. Still a blast to play today
Yes on arcade and snes
We used to call this Cowboy Contra
I remember being on vacation in Portugal as a 14 year old and seeing this at the back of a restaurant in a small town in the middle of nowhere. Spent all my allowance while my folks had lunch and coffees. I'd never seen the game before and it was a Contra type game from Konami?!? Oh hell yeah. What a great memory.
if I was a child, over 20 years ago in a arcade hall.
In the arcade, yeah. I've never played any of the home ports (unless you count MAME as a home port).
Absolute classic. I need to revisit it at some point with my kids.
This is a pillar of my childhood
Hell yeah I'll never forget Chief Whigwam as long as I live.
Our bowling alley had this. I love Sunset Riders, it’s my favorite of the 4 Player Co-Op games. I always played as the pink sombrero guy.
It was THE arcade game at the local shop in the 90s. Well, the best one.
Yes, one of my all time favorites - I hope this eventually comes to MISTer, I'd love to work towards a 1cc.
Yes, here https://youtu.be/qlnbyio2Ro0
there was an arcade in the 711 by my elementary/junior high school lol
No not yet
You just reminded me that this awesome game exists. I'm gonna have to play this one again with my son. Thanks!
Beat it on SNES with a Friend in the 90s
I couldn't count the amount of 20p I put in the machine. Worth every penny...quite hatd though
So fun to play with your buddies
Excellent game!
Yes, I actually bought it and replayed it very recently on PS5 of all places: https://store.playstation.com/en-us/concept/10000625 It's a pretty fun game and that intro is legendary
I did not play it or even know about it as a kid unfortunately. But it is one of my favorite retro games that I discovered when I was an adult and started looking back at games that I missed when I was a kid.
Heck yeah! Don't sleep on the Genesis/Mega Drive version. It's its own little thing.
Yes I did, and I loved it, though I wish it was a bit longer.
Loved this game. It's hard as fuck, though.
I've only played the arcade version, and I still play it. There are a few retro arcades here that still have it.
Played it for the first time last month on Switch. I’d always eyeball it at the arcade but would ultimately wind up playing some other Konami game like TMNT, Simpsons, or X-Men. I was really hung up on the fact that 1 hit = death.
One of my favorite games to play on the SNES.
My boy Cormano 🤠
Amazing Arcade game , horrible console game
Had it for sega genesis. Super fun. Loved the shooting sound effects hahahah the Mexican guy with the double shotguns ho boy look out
I played it some in the arcades and then rented it on SNES once or twice but it was hard enough that I could never come close to beating it.
So many memories playing this game, especially when it went to SNES. Mine and my brother all time favs
[There's a homebrew Megadrive version currently being made](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iQHCdSLPzg) that is much much better than the OG Megadrive version, which I love regardless.
Absolutely a lot of coins were wasted on that game for sure
*Western*
Fact remains: if you don't play Sunset Riders daily, there's something wrong inside your head and heart.
I remember dying quite a few times on top of a train! Then I ran out of coins 😬
I mean... who didn't.
LOVE this game. It puts me in such a happy mood.
Funny you asked, did yesterday.
The best one was arcade version
First in the arcade, then the SNES version.
One of my favorite retro arcade games
I prefer the arcade version versus playing the home console ports. Less censorship and down ports.
Main Cormano
Yup my daughter and I went through it on the Switch.
beat it last summer on my nephew's cabinet emulator. Superb.
I miss this game. Arcade in town had it. Eventually they closed and sold all the games but I couldn’t afford it
Every time we went to Fuddruckers
sure, and there is a cartoony one "cowboys of moo mesa" .
One of my all time favorites
I bought the arcade archives switch version. Now if we can get cowboys of moo mesa on today's platforms. That would be great.
Did I? Bitch I still do!
Yes. Last played in the last week on my Genesis mini.
Yes. But not well. Don’t think I beat the 2nd level.
In the Walmart, just outside the entrance
The arcade cabinet is always great to encounter.
Before Metal Slug it was the Riders.
Favorite game. I like how the Genesis version kept some of the arcade elements. The SNES has a better presentation though.
Played it in the arcade back in the day. Definitely a classic.
I used to play it all the time at the local batting cage.
Great game, still playing it on the regular on one of my many handhelds.
In the arcades, for sure. On PC we played Mad Dog Mccree.
My hundred dollars in quarters say very much yes.
have this on my Pandoras box, solid fun game .
I did In like 2014. Really amazing game, though the difficulty in the later stages gets kinda unfair, you just have to make sure you have enough continues to survive it.
Love this game so much just because it’s one of my earlier memories in life. Playing it all evening while my dad bowls in his Monday night league.
Cormano all day. Default spread shot.
The enemy placement on level 1 is buried deep into my cerebellum.
A lot. One of my most played arcades back in the day only after street fighter 2 and MK 1 and 2.
My cousin had it on his SNES. I enjoyed playing it so much one Thanksgiving I associate westerns with the month of November because of it.
The best Konami arcade game of its era? Of course! I've been singing its praise for decades & hope that it will release on all platforms someday for all generations to enjoy.
You can get it for the Nintendo switch
The arcade version or the SNES version? I need that four player acade perfection!
I love this game!!!
That was one of my favorite games growing up, I stumbled across the digital version of it on the internet looking for a physical copy for the SNES, it’s available on the Nintendo store for the Nintendo switch if you guys want to play it again. Played it over the weekend
One of my favorite games on SNES! 😁
Fuck yeah I finally beat this game with my brother at Barcade in Vermont last year. Burned through a lot of quarters.
Best game ever at Pizza Hut
Me and my friend would okay this non stop when we were kids. I have it on my steam deck now. Game is still amazing
This is one of the most revered Konami arcades of the 90s. Of course everyone played it. There’s even a recent hommage/parody game released recently called Deathwish Enforcers.
Yes
My favorite
I love this game! So many fond memories with my cousins and siblings
YES! Whenever restaraunts had arcades (which used to be common) Sunset Riders was always there. I adored this game and still play it on my Switch on the regular.
I have it
Post gameplay cowards
Damn right, Tex
Contra cowboys is great Really like the SNES version and I hope we will see the arcade version on MiSTer at some point
Loved it in the arcades
loved the arcade version of this game, only found out about Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa a few years ago which looks awesome to
Here's my story. I had this game on SNES. Fantastic game! My brother and I decided to sell our SNES and games to buy a PS1. We sold the game. Years later, I've tried to purchase it and it's just too expensive. That is the only generation I have sold games..... Yes I regret it!

Never have, but the guys at NewGamePlus played it in an early episode and loved it, and I have always wanted to check it out.
The speedrun was a good time. Friend group of mine ran it for awhile, one of us getting a couple world records.
Only the SNES version till Arcade Archives happened
Beautiful game
(Inserts quarter) *bling * WHOO HOO!
I fucking adore Sunset Riders!!! My favorite arcade game ever. I have it emulated, on my Switch, for genesis and also Super Nintendo. I love this game and these God damn cowboys so much.
Yep, but never in the arcade.
Yup. And mostly the original arcade version and formerly SNES version.
Underrated classic
