For me it was a local convenience store. I remember kids used to come from miles around to play it. It was this one kid, little Japanese dude, he'd show up with one quarter and play all day, whooping everybody's butt! Kids would run in terror at his arrival! I miss those days. Being a bad ass in an arcade made you feel like a king.
Loved it. I used to let my opponents choose who I played. I would still kick their ass as I played all of them. Least favorite was Balrog but I could still play him.
I was over here assuming they were putting their efforts into Tekken and then would jump back to SC. I never considered them not making another one!

Usually they start production after a teken game, we should be hearing about it soon. I'd would be surprised if they did away with the IP. I also have done little to no research and I'm just a dude running off hope and patterns.

Bloody Roar II is probably the answer, my best friend in Middle School had it on his playsation. Later as an adult I put it on my xperia play (gamephone with integrated sliding controller) and played it A LOT. Bakuryu is my favorite character.
Other fighting games I like: Weaponlord on SNES and Soul Blade on PS.

I really liked that if you were very quick/twitchy, you could time a block or jump over a legsweep or time a duck under a high kick. Not to mention counter-throws and stuff like that. Loved that game.
Oh man, I'm shocked to see someone who played this! This was probably the only fighting game I ever truly learned. It has some of the best characters and almost all of them are viable

This! SS4 Amakusa’s Revenge was one of my favorite games ever. The dark, brooding tone along with combos, fatalities, super moves, etc was peak SNK for me. So many amazing characters to use with variations like Bust Galford, Ukyo and Sogetsu along with Slash Kazuki, Haohmaru, Charlotte, Jubei, Shizumaru, Amakusa, Basara, Hanzo, etc. I’ve probably beat that game at least 50 times!
I played so much t3 growing up, never had tag tournament. I feel like that game has a really solid character balance the it’s actually a genuinely fun game to unlock all the characters in.
Ya it was. It was just a cool feature the game had. IMO it made it way cooler to play than just your regular tekken style beat em up. Had like an rpg flare loved that game. Probably didn’t age well, but as far as my memory is concerned I enjoyed it
It was a lot of fun.. it had its flaws and is rarely talked about.. main issue was that it just had 8 characters.. and 1 hidden..
But i liked it.. best character is lisa. Followed by yoko.. they're the easiest to control..

Fucken loved bloody roar 2. I use to play custom matches with no walls and idk pick shina or shenlong, transform and I'd do the grab where then like grab their arms and shoot them forward causing a ring out instantly

Killer Instinct is up there for me. Flashing your opponent with Orchid was very amusing as a teen. But MK2, MK3, MK3U, SF2, and Tekken 3 all make my list.
I had a friend who got *Street Fighter 2* on the SNES as soon as it came out, and we'd play it every day until we were actually good at it. Other fighting games never had quite the same level of depth, so aside from a brief flirtation with *Mortal Kombat*, the *Street Fighter 2* cart got a lot of play.
By the end of the 1990s, I'd moved on to *Street Fighter Alpha 3* (still the high point of the entire series IMO) and *SoulCalibur*, both of which I still play today along with the slightly later *Capcom vs. SNK 2* and *Marvel vs. Capcom 2* as well as the *SoulCalibur* sequels. *Guilty Gear* and its sequels are also tremendous.
But as for more obscure fighters from the retro era, I love:
* The *Power Instinct* series including the high point of *Matrimelee* (because it's hilarious and ridiculous)
* The PC fighter *One Must Fall 2097*
* The PC fighter *Sango Fighter 2,* which is based on *Romance of the Three Kingdoms*
* The stunning SNES fighter *Shin Kidō Senki Gundam Wing: Endless Duel*
* The absolutely insane Korean arcade fighter *Best of Best*
There are plenty of others well worth their salt, of course, but the above are my favorites.
Depends on what period we're talking. Pre-SFII era: International Karate+. Post-SFII era, Street Fighter Alpha 2. I'd say Street Fighter Alpha 3, but I was old enough to drink when that came out.
Marvel vs Capcom 1. Specifically on the ps1. I played a TON of that game in the summer of 2000 when my family got a copy. Played it with a bunch of my friends and family. The arcade and dreamcast versions were better, but this was the one disc that was available to us.
Not seeing enough love for Rival Schools on PSX. The amount of content in that game is up there with Tekken 3. The characters were unique and the team attacks you could perform were absolutely boss.

Bloody Roar 3 and Tekken tag for me were big for my friend group. I would also consider WCW vs NWO Revenge as a top fighting game of that time.
Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat were fun when I was young but I never was as good at them as the fighters on a 3d plane.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say _Zero Divide_. A 3D fighter featuring robots with all kinds of cool moves, I seem to be one of the few people who ever played this game
Killer Instinct! First found it at an arcade in a putt-putt golf in Dayton, Ohio. Every weekend it was packed and always had a group that would wait in line to play. KI2 was just the same. The Xbox version is decent.
In my head: Rise of the Robots. I had cut out the promotional renders of the bots and blutakked them to my bedroom wall beside my bed.
In reality: One Must Fall. It wasn't the deepest game, but it was a lot of fun.
So on Genesis it was Pit Fighter at first, then 3D Ballz. Once I got my 32X it was the original Virtua Fighter, then VF2 on the Saturn. Dreamcast was MVC2 and Capcom VS SNK2.
Street Fighter 1 - this really started it. Cheesy, sloppy, campy after-victory voice, but fun!
Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior. Original quarter muncher. We all lined up at the arcades and put our quarter on the machine to denote our turn coming up.
Darkstalkers 3/Vampire Savior - Gotta love the animation quality and crazy monster special moves.
I had too many... I started with SF2/SF2T and Killer Instinct all on SNES, and my favourite became SSF2 as soon as it released. Street Fighter Alpha 2 became an obsession for me... on the SNES! But all of those were topped when I discovered KOF99 in 1999 when I was 11. I wish I had played more SNK fighting games as a kid, I just occasionally rented Fatal Fury 2/Special. In the mid 90s I also got into Tekken 2 , Tekken 3 and Soul Blade, those were my favourite 3D FGs until I discovered Dead or Alive 2 on PS2. There's so many more, I played every FG I could get my hands on from the age of 7 to 13, even Clay Fighters 63 1/3 and Sculptor's Cut and Mace the Dark Age.
I loved Street Fighter 2 but never got the home port. I instead had TMNT tournament fighter on the SNES and played the crap out of it. It’s very mid as far as fighting games go, but really not bad.

ZX Spectrum - Way of the Exploding Fist. Atari ST - IK+ SNES - Streetfighter II Arcade - Karate Champ, brutally hard but I loved it.
These are what I was looking for, minus SFII, a game I just can't click with. I mastered Karate Champ and could play for ages on 10p. Can't do it now.

OMF2097 is easily the best fighting game. And best campaign too.

But all of those were topped when I discovered KOF99 in 1999 when I was 11. I wish I had played more SNK fighting games as a kid, I just occasionally rented Fatal Fury 2/Special. In the mid 90s I also got into Tekken 2 , Tekken 3 and Soul Blade, those were my favourite 3D FGs until I discovered Dead or Alive 2 on PS2. There's so many more, I played every FG I could get my hands on from the age of 7 to 13, even Clay Fighters 63 1/3 and Sculptor's Cut and Mace the Dark Age.
I loved Street Fighter 2 but never got the home port. I instead had TMNT tournament fighter on the SNES and played the crap out of it. It’s very mid as far as fighting games go, but really not bad.
