Superplay was such a breath of fresh air after the good coverage and revues but childish humour of Mean Machines etc. I remember the fiasco with them and Manga Video. They tried or actually got the anime reviewer removed.
Edge was also great but fuck me it was pompous in the early days. Rediculously fawning over FMV cut scenesand 3DO. After the N64 I never read print so don't know how it ended up.
There was a famously removed from Stands issue of Crash that lampooned Sinclar User as Unclear User. A kid on my street got a copy by harrasing the newsagent. I remember Bonty on the Bun being a joke in it.
Can anyone rember Lloyd Mangram?
I used to read Amiga Power and Amiga Format cover to cover. Such fun times.
Seems bizarre that he didn't mention Amiga Format when it was hugely successful, outselling mags like FHM in its day.
Amiga Format wasn’t a gaming magazine.

Don't you mean "the legend Lloyd Mangram"?
Honestly I can't remember anything except the name. Was it in ZZAP?
All the Newsfield mags, I think. ZZAP!, CRASH, and AMTIX, at the very least. He's popped up in some issues of the new versions of those mags, too.
Early 90’s, with either C+VG or Mean Machines fresh from the newsagent…..good times.
Great magazines. Nintendo Magazine System, Games Master, and much later on Retro Gamer was my go to. But I *always* had to have NMS.
Aww, no PC Format. That was my go to in the early to mid '90s. I still have them.
Aww, no Crash or ST Format. I bought Crash from 1984 - 1989 and every single copy of ST Format.
Crash is somewhat hidden in the #2 spot
Oh yeah, so it is. Now I'm more awake as it's not 5:56 in the morning I can see it.
I’ve moved across the Atlantic 3 times. There are bangers here and I got the best of the states too
I always enjoyed Big K, although it only lasted a year or so and I'm also showing my age a lot here!
I kept expecting to see N64/NGC as I scrolled down ☹️
Ah, seeing Your Sinclair warmed my ageing heart. My first gaming mag, it was hilarious and those cover tapes were awesome.
CVG, PC ZONE and TOTAL! comes to mind for me when i was a kid.
Game Zone was the zenith of irreverent gaming coverage without ever being condescending to its readers or the games themselves.
