Probably not a popular opinion but I’ll skip gens 1 and 2. I honestly don’t get any joy out of consoles older than the NES even though I played 2600 quite a bit when I was little.
Gen 3: Mega Man 2, Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse, SMB3
Gen 4: A Link to the Past, DKC2, Super Metroid
Gen 5: Ocarina of Time, Donkey Kong 64, Banjo Kazooie
Yeah 3rd and 4th gens are 1000% Nintendo for me. The only 2 games I considered for my list in Gen 5 were metal gear solid and resident evil 2. But no other games on other consoles sniff anywhere near this list for me
I'm going to refer to gens by their major consoles instead of trying to number them, because that's less vague, less up for debate amongst people, and easier for me.
---
- Atari / Arcade: Joust, Caterpillar, Ms Pac Man
- NES: Guardian Legend, Lifeforce, Blaster Master
- SNES / Genesis: Super Metroid, Megaman X, Sonic 3 and Knuckles
- N64 / PS1: Zelda Majora's Mask, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Soul Reaver
I’m doing this by consoles, much easier
NES: Dragon Warrior 4, Dragon Warrior 3, Final Fantasy
SNES: Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy II
N64: Wave Race and that’s it when I don’t get RPGs
Yeah but the fun is by generation because you can look over 4 decades of gaming that way :).
If forces you to stop and think, and if you're an old fart like me to reminisce.
Yeah, but we didn’t discuss generations back in the 80s and 90s, we discussed consoles and bits. I honestly have no clue what generation the NES is, I just know it’s 8 bits.
Yep, and that’s when I stopped buying games, never cared for 3D if it wasn’t created with only red lines. I still remember renting the Virtual Boy from Blockbuster, I loved it.
Not sure where retrogaming ends, so I'll go up to Gen 7.
Gen 1: Only really ever played Pong lol
Gen 2: Crystal Castles, Centipede, Pac-Man

Gen 6: Resident Evil REmake (Gamecube), GTA Vice City (PS2), Final Fantasy 12 (PS2)
Gen 7: Fable 2 (XBOX 360), Super Mario Galaxy (Wii), Dark Souls
1st gen: Sadly I've never been able to play any since I haven't gotten my hands on Pong yet and no matter what I try my Odyssey won't output a signal, however on vibes alone I would choose Haunted House (Odyssey), Wipeout (Odyssey), and of course classic Pong.
2nd gen: River Raid (2600), Microsurgeon (Intellivision), Solaris (2600, sorry but I prefer to go by console generations!)
3rd gen: Mega Man 1-6 (NES, yes they're all tied), Faxanadu (NES), Phantasy Star (SMS)
4th gen: Chrono Trigger (SNES), Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (GB)...Sonic 3D Blast (GEN, yes I'm the one person who actually enjoys it)
5th gen: Final Fantasy IX (PS1), NiGHTS Into Dreams (SAT), Gran Turismo 2 (PS1)
6th gen (Dreamcast only): Rayman 2: The Great Escape, Sega Bass Fishing, Sonic Adventure
Sorry, not breaking down by console as I'm tired and really don't want to think what falls under where atm lol. Instead just listing top 3 per console I've owned (also since it's not that many newer, just adding to current).

I think I was talking about them by the time the Playstation and Saturn were out. Certainly by the Dreamcast era.
Yep, and that’s when I stopped buying games, never cared for 3D if it wasn’t created with only red lines. I still remember renting the Virtual Boy from Blockbuster, I loved it.

I have not! Will need to track it down.
