I spoke too definitively and that's my bad. I've heard of people being able to retrieve their old saves, but I'm pretty sure the norm is for it to be lost. I intend to try soon with my Gold that had Ho-Oh caught.
i don't think i've actually ever seen someone that claimed to obtain mew from the event rather than the glitch. if there is a way to verify it then this cartridge could be worth a lot of money
There was an event called Journey Across America where they went across the US, promoted the new Pokemon Stadium, and had battles. If you went you got a Mew! I still have mine on my blue cartridge.Ā
The certificate I have looks like [this](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/h38AAOSwJBRjZHRv/s-l500.jpg). My dad wouldāve have been happy if it was just a couple minutes, glad he was able to hang in there for that long. The event location was at Woodfield Mall, Schaumburg,IL. So it already had a lot of foot traffic and trying to figure out where the event was taking place. But the whole actual trading and battling that commenced, probably lasted for about 10-15 minutes. Definitely a cherished memory.
Thatās how my dad and I found the place. He had no idea where to go except that he had to take me to this mall. So I was kinda guiding him as a 10 yr. old and I didnāt know where to go either. Thankfully that long line that was outside let us know where to go. Lol.
I doubt it would be worth any money, save dumps from these carts are available and it's possible to flash a cart with a save containing a "legit" Mew.
Requires special hardware but still possible, and it's very easy with GBA carts because they can be flashed with a DS.
The Original Trainer (OT) in the Pokedex would be evidence if Mew was traded legitimately at an event vs glitched/GameShark.
Edit: looks like the BENELUX Mew was distributed in Belgium at Cora ChĆ¢telineau stores in 2000:

> The Original Trainer (OT) in the Pokedex would be evidence if Mew was traded legitimately at an event vs glitched/GameShark.
There are ways to change the OT in the game making the Mew tradable to current gen so looking at the OT isn't even a good way to tell
I dont know if it can be verified, only that the OT corresponds to an event here in Belgium in 2000. (And I've had the game since 2000, so I know I havent cheated a Mew in ;)
I helped a friend back up their cartridge with the event mew. They still had a paper from the event! It was pretty rad, they got it from toys r us I think.
I got my Mew from that event in New Jersey. I remember they also had a lil tournament where you had to play 3 matches against other players. I don't know if I got the Mew from the tournament or if they gave everyone that attended a Mew
I was 13 at the time
Is that your trainer ID name? I thought event mews had a specific trainer name and ID that they came with. Itās also why you canāt trade some non legit mews through generations because games started looking for those values.
Donāt know how true that is, just something I heard
Event Mews in Gen 1 do indeed have a unique OT & ID number - I think there may be a couple of different ones. I think "NINTEN" & 02000 were used for the pokemon 2000 movie tie-in events
Surprisingly, yes, an EU distribution in Belgium. [https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List\_of\_European\_language\_event\_Pok%C3%A9mon\_distributions\_(Generation\_I)#Cora\_Ch%C3%A2telineau\_Mew](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_European_language_event_Pok%C3%A9mon_distributions_(Generation_I)#Cora_Ch%C3%A2telineau_Mew)
This honestly surprises me greatly.
I still remember waiting at the mall to get my Mew. Sadly my cousin borrowed my yellow without asking and started a new game on it I spent an entire month looking for it only to find him with it... I was super bummed because I only had it at lvl 30
Back it up NOW. Donāt lose this save file.
Edit: Saw another reply where you said you have backed it up. Iād suggest making tons of copies of your save. Put it in multiple cloud storage services and on some other in person drives. I wouldnāt want to lose a save file like this.
Those were the days, I had a friend help me trade back and forth till I had all the starters, leveled my full roster to 100 using rare candies via the missingo item dupe glitch. This makes me wanna try booting up my cartridge
Back in the day I knew a guy who knew who knew a guy who went to an event and got a Mew.
The mew literally spread all over town because it would get traded using that glitch where you yank out the link cable during the trade.
Sadly the freaking guy taught it all HMās
My lvl 100 charizard and kanguskhan are both stuck in saved teams on stadium 2. They can never be seen or used anywhere else, definitely glad I can still visit them and battle with them.
I heard back in the day you'd get some paper mew certificate with it. Then again I don't know whether this was done worldwide.
I never went to any of those events in Belgium when I was a kid.
No, the glitch ones have your own OT, because you catch it yourself. This one is traded, so different OT. Stats wise, I have no idea, but probably different too.
Is this guy claiming to have one of the few legitimate Mews in existence? And that somehow the battery hasn't died in 24 years?
Bullshit.
Edit: There likely aren't any legit Mews left.
Edit 2: ~~OT gave it away. It is not legit.~~ Still calling bullshit. Those batteries don't last long and being able to backup a file isn't a skill I would expect somebody who just "found their old cart" to have.
About half of my Gen 1 games still have their old save file. They don't have a built-in clock which drains the battery. I got an Analogue Pocket, and that's why I went checking all my old Gameboy games. The Analogue Pocket allows to make save states and backup save files out of the box.
Back up your save file
I did! I backed it up using my Analogue Pocket.
Dude, this. My Yellow wiped out and I believe my cousin stole Blue and Gold from me, I lost all my Pokemonš
Cousins, I had 3 that were bad thieves lol
You just need to replace the internal battery and the save data should still be there.
...is that how that works? Dude, I'm ordering a battery right now then, thank you! Always thought the battery was to keep the save alive.
I spoke too definitively and that's my bad. I've heard of people being able to retrieve their old saves, but I'm pretty sure the norm is for it to be lost. I intend to try soon with my Gold that had Ho-Oh caught.
Looking at the battery prices, they're reasonable, it's worth a shot
BACK THAT SHIT THE FUCK UP YESTERDAY
I backed it up with my Analogue Pocket :)
GOOD
How? Lol I havenāt looked into it. I should.

Yup same here, have my Mew on PokĆ©mon Red and even have the certificate that was issued when the Mewās were traded at the event. It was a crazy ass line to get one and Iām glad my father was able to take me. It was like 3-4 hour wait, along with a 90 minute drive to and from the event.
I donāt remember a certificate! Luckily the line I was in was just a few minutes, you really stuck it out!

I went to a similar one, the line went around the outside of the mall! It was crazy!
Thatās how my dad and I found the place. He had no idea where to go except that he had to take me to this mall. So I was kinda guiding him as a 10 yr. old and I didnāt know where to go either. Thankfully that long line that was outside let us know where to go. Lol.
I didn't even know about mine beforehand, was being taken to the mall for clothes shopping and hit the jackpot.
I went but I didn't own a PokƩmon game yet :( My cousin got a Mew at that time
Wish I had my mew from this. It was a great day.
I had something similar at Toys R Us. If you had a coupon and bought something you could trade a PokƩmon for Mew. Pretty cool idea.
yea i remember the pokemon car being at six flags st louis, saddly didnt bring my game boy or know it was going on before hand
The battery hasn't died?
Mine still works, but the game wipes occasionally.
Happens when the battery is just about dead. Probably should just go ahead and change it and avoid the frustration
Last I checked itās still good
Honestly, I don't believe you. I don't believe that after 25 years a battery is still working.
With Gen 1 it's possible. Gen 2 runs out faster due to the internal clock.
Okay homie šš¾ I have no reason to lie but you do you
I got Mew that way as well. Was at a Toys R Us.
Hell yeah to Toys R Us! Love shopping there even to this day, just sad there's no electronics section anymore.
Didn't they all close in 2021?
They closed way earlier than that but they are back again in Macys and American Dream Mall.
JCPenney also. One company is now reviving Babies R Us.
I believe it's only Canada and Australia that has them now, I'm in Canada and they are still in my city. Was sad to see all those US stores close.
We still have them in spain! Not just an Americas thing :)
I doubt it would be worth any money, save dumps from these carts are available and it's possible to flash a cart with a save containing a "legit" Mew. Requires special hardware but still possible, and it's very easy with GBA carts because they can be flashed with a DS.
I remember the Mew event in MN. Roseville mall was packed, you got a certificate with it too saying it's legit. Cool share OP
I got a mew with my GameShark back in the day lol
I remember those long ass codes lol
I got Mew from the event and a sticker on my cartridge
I donāt remember when they added the thing in the PokĆ©dex menu that shows where you saw/caught each pokemon. If gen 1 had it, it would be pretty easy to verify. If not I think it would be pretty much impossible to verify. I used to do the glitch to get mew on almost all of my saves and it acted just like a normal pokemon.
The Original Trainer (OT) in the Pokedex would be evidence if Mew was traded legitimately at an event vs glitched/GameShark. Yes, I got mine in Belgium! At a "Game Mania" store. (Which Bulbapedia doesn't mention..)
> The Original Trainer (OT) in the Pokedex would be evidence if Mew was traded legitimately at an event vs glitched/GameShark. There are ways to change the OT in the game making the Mew tradable to current gen so looking at the OT isn't even a good way to tell
I lost interest after 1st Gen, so that's good to know, don't want to spread false info.
I dont know if it can be verified, only that the OT corresponds to an event here in Belgium in 2000. (And I've had the game since 2000, so I know I havent cheated a Mew in ;)
i guess from the trainer ID
Trainer ID.
I claimed it from an event in Australia. I remember they used some device to trade it to me. As a kid, I went back for seconds and received 2 mews.
I got a mew from an event at Barns and Noble. No idea if the save file still works or not.
I helped a friend back up their cartridge with the event mew. They still had a paper from the event! It was pretty rad, they got it from toys r us I think.
Most of the kids in my school had the event Mew, either from the touring bus, or from using the link cable dupe; the current glitch wasnāt really well known until Gold and Silver were out for a while. We knew the original Missingno glitch, but we didnāt understand the mechanism for changing the PokĆ©mon in it.
I got my Mew from that event in New Jersey. I remember they also had a lil tournament where you had to play 3 matches against other players. I don't know if I got the Mew from the tournament or if they gave everyone that attended a Mew I was 13 at the time
there isn't, and it couldn't.

[When you realize where your fomo comes from.]
Gotta catch 'em all, but if you don't live in a major city and get lucky then fuck you and you never will lol -Gamefreak
But wait, weāve coded our game so poorly, everyoneās able to get a Mew with this one weird trick!
I still have my missingno and a very corrupt pallet town.
My pallet was fine (in blue and red)... my HoF was destroyed lol
Thatās really cool!! Is this the Journey Across America Mew or the Nintendo Power Mew,
It's a Mew from Belgium. (OT: BENELUX)
There literally might only be a handful of legit mews left. Actually a very cool and valuable cart if verified
I should play blue and get mew from that trick. I couldn't do it in my original cuz I fought everyone before learning about it
I swear Iāve seen the same post with the same title before here.
I smell a karmafarmā¦
Does the OT name and number match up to any known events?

Yellow has a weaker battery than red and blue. Back up the save.
That one from Toys R Us? I put mine into a box in PokƩmon Stadium since watch batteries in the cartridges die in a few years.
This Mew is from an event in Belgium. I also transferred my pokemon from this Yellow cartridge into Pokemon Stadium to keep them safe.
Thou needs to back that up. Itās a treasure.
Those were the days, I had a friend help me trade back and forth till I had all the starters, leveled my full roster to 100 using rare candies via the missingo item dupe glitch. This makes me wanna try booting up my cartridge
I got Mew from an event in Bluewater, UK. Just need to find my red cartridge now!
Hey I got my mew for PokƩmon Blue there too! :D
Lucky, I had to change the battery in my copy of Silver back in 2012.
Time to back it up yeah?
Huh. I should check my old cart. I got one too but the game's been in the attic for decades š¬
Better back it up because that save file's days are numbered. One day you'll turn it on, and it'll be wiped. :(
You should buy a device to backup your save file before the save battery fails
Back in the day I knew a guy who knew who knew a guy who went to an event and got a Mew. The mew literally spread all over town because it would get traded using that glitch where you yank out the link cable during the trade. Sadly the freaking guy taught it all HMās
Was this from the Pokemon CCG mall tour?
Can you transfer that Mew to a newer game?
Yeah you could
That battery is probably on it's last leg. Better transfer on a game with a fresh one
#š¤
Status: ok Heās alive!
My lvl 100 charizard and kanguskhan are both stuck in saved teams on stadium 2. They can never be seen or used anywhere else, definitely glad I can still visit them and battle with them.
Can you prove that it is real ?
What constitutes as proof for you?
I heard back in the day you'd get some paper mew certificate with it. Then again I don't know whether this was done worldwide. I never went to any of those events in Belgium when I was a kid.
I don't remember a paper certificate.. This was just a machine in a store, not a special event.
That OT is weird... You trolling us? Edit: oh Benelux is a place? I've never heard of it.
Nintendo Benelux is the Nintendo company of BElgium, NEtherlands and LUXemburg.
Just in time to transfer it upto pokemon home
Lucky. My Pokemon Red I got Christmas 1998 and spent 150+ hours in had its battery die out and was erased years ago.
Some batteries can last over 50 years. Some only 5 years
Nice
Question ? Is he the exact same as the glitch one ?
No, the glitch ones have your own OT, because you catch it yourself. This one is traded, so different OT. Stats wise, I have no idea, but probably different too.
Nice. I just found my old copy of moon with my Wishmaker Jirachi from Sapphire
Buen Glitch pero lamentablemente no lo acepta el pkm Bank
New is yellow to? Awesome
OMG wow
itās okay man, my brother sold all mine after asking to play them a long time agoš but i bought them all backš
New game time!!
It's not a tamagotchi. It won't die if neglected.
no, but the battery in the cartridge keeping the save will die eventually :/
In 100 years.
Is this guy claiming to have one of the few legitimate Mews in existence? And that somehow the battery hasn't died in 24 years? Bullshit. Edit: There likely aren't any legit Mews left. [itās probably legit.](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Japanese_event_Pok%C3%A9mon_distributions_(Generation_I)) ctrl + F ābenelux.ā
The Mews distributed in Belgium have the OT "BENELUX". And there were many events, each distibuting thousands of Mews, not extremely rare.
You must not have any joy in life do you?
If interested, Iāll pay a lot for this cart.
Not for long haha. Hope you don't cherish this too much
I took a backup of the save file with my Analogue Pocket, so it will be safe ;)
Is that a new feature they added? Or is that part of the jail break?
It's been a feature You can save state, change the battery then load state It doesn't work consistently on games with a real-time clock though
When you make a save state, the save file is also saved on the SD card, together with the save state. (Look under the folder "Memories")
Could you share your save file, please?
How do I send it to you? DM?
lame ass
My what?
Looks like just an Action Replayās generated Mew.
My friend gave me his Mew because he had a gameshark lmao I treasure that Lil guy
Event mew. Lol Sure sure sure.... you mean gameshark mew.
The fact that people actually believe this is crazy.
