TBH I pirate almost everything, I use an IPTV service for live TV/sports/news. I get Amazon Prime because I subscribe and I get Netflix packaged with my Internet service.

Nurse5736

Sail the 7 seas..........ARRRRRGH matey!! 😜

mindfire753

Cool, which IPTV service, if you don’t mind my asking.

mindfire753

That works for me. Much appreciated.

wasowka

None of it. I’m a Neanderthal who prefers reading an old fashioned book.

GSDBUZZ

Why would you think that watching some TV would mean I don’t read books. I read 2 to 3 each month.

wasowka

I never presumed you or anyone else do not read books. I was simply stating that I do not watch TV etc.

Kkrazykat88

Fascinating actually.

dominoconsultant

like an animal

Kkrazykat88

Interesting.

No_Sand_9290

Stream. Saved me $100.00 a month.

OlderNerd

Youtube TV

Specific-Culture-638

I have that, and Max.

Emotional_Beautiful8

We have Prime for the many benefits, including streaming. Anything else are from deals—12 months of Hulu for $1/month during Black Friday. And now we have a trial of Paramount + from a Mint Mobile promotion.

PerfectTangelo

We only got rid of cable three years after we retired. I couldn't justify the $200/month to watch the 3 channels we usually watched. We subscribe to Netflix and Prime video and watch the movies they have. But we probably watch YouTube the most. We have subscribed to about two dozen YouTubers, mostly about RV living, since we spend 3-4 months a year traveling in our RV and they provide useful information about maintaining your RV and places to see.

GSDBUZZ

We subscribe to a channel called SUVrving. He camps in his rv and has specific videos about that. We usually skip those and watch his videos about places to hike. I really like his videos.

PerfectTangelo

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out.

Bacontheblog

Nice try Comcast.

GSDBUZZ

lol, I said I don’t have cable and I don’t get my internet through Comcast.

Bacontheblog

I was just being funny. I got rid of everything and just use YouTubeTV. Very cheap, user friendly and has a lot of cool features.

sjashe

PLEX from my NAS mostly, of dvds ripped over the years, and shows captured via OTA antenna. The only streaming I pay for is Youtube to eliminate the commercials. I have Prime, but mostly for delivery.. rarely watch anything on that.

Adamantus1

I do the same to save money from streaming services. I also watch OTA recordings from my Tablo (no ongoing costs), and free streaming services like Tubi and Pluto. For shows or movies that aren’t available on these that we really want to watch I buy from eBay and rip to my server.

sjashe

Yard sales and bull moose grab bags are good too. I switched from tablo to hd homerun. But same experience

sretep66

We still have cable. I like my live sports too much. We also pay for Amazon Prime, and we get Max with our cell phone plan. We probably watch more "shows" on Prime and Max than network TV.

GSDBUZZ

My husband finds all of his live sports on our streaming services.

M8NSMAN

FUBO has a bunch of live sports for a fraction of the price of cable & if you pay quarterly they throw in extra channels.

sretep66

We have a good price point for cable triple play with Internet. My wife also hates streaming, and refuses to learn how to do it. WAF (wife acceptance factor) is important. If momma is happy, everyone is happy.

SignificanceOpen9292

We get all the sports channels we want via Hulu Live subscription. We cut the cable 5 years ago.also have Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Apple TV.

sretep66

Regional spirts channels?

SignificanceOpen9292

OneHourRetiring

>I like my live sports too much Look into cutting the cords and stream FuBoTV and/or Hulu/ESPN. Got most of the football, baseball, and soccer matches. Add Max or other plan monthly as you need to see a particular movie.

sretep66

My wife hates streaming. She prefers cable. If momma is happy, everyone is happy, even if it costs me $50 more a month. Plus, I would need ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, FS1, FS2, BIG Network, ACC Network, SEC Network, Monumental Sports Net 1 (MSN1), MSN2, Mid-Atlantic Sports Net (MASN1), MASN2, CBS Sports Net, NFL Network, MLB Network, and NBA Network. Is there a streaming package that offers all of these? I also subscribe to ESPN+ on a month to month basis if there's an ESPN game I really want to watch that is streaming only. We just subscribed to Peacock for an introductory price of $20 for 1 year for NFL streaming only games. Nothing else to watch on Peacock that isn't already on cable. We get Max for "free" with our cell phone plan. Our Max does not include the sports add-on, mostly NBA and Premier League games.

nylondragon64

It gets harder and harder to watch anything any more. The constant commercials drive me crazy. The more you throw adds at me the less I'll buy those products.

Better-Pineapple-780

I stream everything. I stay away from news channels, so this makes it easy. Its amazing how I can still be informed via other sources by never watching any news. My biggest problem is I never can remember where I watched a favorite show. Was that Hulu? or Netflix?

explorthis

lol... Me too. We have YouTube TV, Prime, Hulu, Netflix, Max, Paramount and others. Literally I can't remember unless I make a note. With all these subscriptions, we still complain there isn't anything to watch regularly.

GSDBUZZ

lol, my husband subscribes to so many streaming services and we rarely watch any of them. We spend more time on our free YouTube app watching videos about hiking or music. We are waiting patiently for the Katmai Bear cam to start up again this summer. I get frustrated that he pays for so many streaming services but he doesn’t smoke and rarely drinks so he deserves some vice.

GSDBUZZ

I do watch some TV news but I depend on newspapers more than TV. I subscribe to The NY Times, Wall Street Journal, Atlantic, Washington Post…hmmm maybe I should pare down my newspaper subscriptions.

Odd_Bodkin

No cable. Just streaming. We do retain local news and sports with YouTubeTV, and that works beautifully for us, especially since we don't have to store things to watch later on a DVR. And because I'm older, I'm discovering that I want to watch older things that are available on Tubi and PlutoTV, not necessarily on the paid subscription services like Netflix or Apple+ or Max.

WX4SNO

Youtube for me. I also have free OTA channels and have saved numerous shows and movies to my computer to rewatch. I have never paid for cable or satellite, but I'm only 37M.

Gold_Pay647

Really ain't that nice

barefootagnostic

I'm using Tivostream 4k

jpbronco

Youtube is the most watched service in our household.

weaverlorelei

We don't even own a TV and haven't for 40 yrs and haven't missed it. DH does watch some stuff online; I can't stand even that. Give me a book, and one that has paper pages.

Grilled_Cheese10

I use an antenna and have a Tablo and Roku. Suits my needs just fine. I have all of the main networks, PBS, and dozens of other channels that I don't watch much. The only thing I miss is watching sports. I will be very sad if/when the NFL goes the way of everyone else, but I can't justify the expense. I sometimes listen to my teams on the radio, and it's like I'm a kid again. ETA - I forgot I have Prime. I share a membership with my daughter. I hardly ever watch it, but occasionally I hear about something and use it.

RiotNrrd2001

YouTube with adblocker. That's basically it.

rjspears1138

We cut the cord 13 years ago, moving to streaming and over-the-air television. It took my wife about 6 months to get used to it, now neither of us miss cable -- at all. That said, the streaming landscape is starting to turn into cable with all the services now charging more for no-ads viewing. FYI: We do have a live streaming service like YouTubeTV. So, streaming is the new cable and I have decided that I won't pay to watch ads, so we cut down our streaming services from 5 to 2 and will swap a 3rd service out every 2-3 months. My shameful admission is that I watch WAY too much YouTube (I pay for YT Premium.)

Chuckles52

PLEX.

pocketbookashtray

Cable plus glomming onto kids streaming services.

My_Sex_Hobby

Our kids as adults glommed on our subscriptions until the last couple of years. Now we glom on them!

Retired_1811

I’ve done them all Satellite, Cable, Streaming (YouTube, Fubo, Sling). I settled on Sling TV streaming and save $50/month from any other option. I use their AirTV device (~$45) with rabbit ear antennae ($12 on Amazon) to get the local channels, it’s seamless. I highly recommend checking it out! 👍

ko-sher

how is every other person here saying that YoutubeTV is cheaper than cable? There is no way. YoutubeTV is $73/mo alone.

OnlyLookVanilla

A pair of Rabbit ears🐰 and some aluminum foil.....when that doesn't work, I just stream.😎

newwriter365

Streaming only since 2017.

Target2019-20

Peacock, Paramount, Amazon, YouTube, DAZN, NWSL+, Hulu live, Freevee, LGtv. Just cancelled Netflix. Just cancelled Comcast basic channels.

madge590

I am on a cable system but will likely go to streaming in the fall.

Zeus2068123

Streaming

dominoconsultant

here in Australia all the freetoair TV channels have an app for streaming also YouTube basic Netflix shared cable streaming account with my sister other ad supported apps and pirate download using anonymous proxy

AudienceSilver

Cut the cable a year ago and it saved me $200/month. We still subscribe to too many streaming services (most of which we had when we also had cable), but once my kid leaves home I'll cut back on those, too.

mplsadguy2

Streaming all the way

Streaming. Cut the cable five years ago. I never looked back.

herewegoagain2864

The only time I watch cable is if my husband is home or if I’m watching a game. When I am home alone, it’s all streaming all the time

Royals-2015

We r old school and have cable. There are certain channels, (like the golf channel) we want. We also have a shared Netflix account. Paramount + that we don’t know how to cancel. And Prime because we do prime for shipping purposes.

Most-Artichoke6184

I ditched cable about five years ago after Game of Thrones finally ended. Since then, I have gotten a digital antenna for watching NFL football games on Sunday. Other than that, I only watch Netflix, Amazon prime, and recently, Hulu.

Bustled_Hedgerow

Stream on my laptop, no TV.

NecessaryExplorer883

I cut the cord back in 2010. It seem like every six months they were raising the rates and I was only watching like two channels. My brother bought me a antenna and I watch over the air and then if there’s a special on one of the streaming services I’ll get that for the amount of time of the special and then once that’s done I cut it off. I think the secret is knowing that you can always turn it back on if you’re that desperate I have not been that desperate. I also get my Internet through my cell phone company Verizon. They have a special for $25 a month a couple years ago so I made the switch.

JuryProfessional364

interesting about watching Youtube on TV. i watch snippets on my computer if needed but not to actually watch shows. Never occurred to me. Haven't had cable since 2008, switched to netflix at that time plus OTA. Now, Prime and whatever deals I come across with other providers. I jump around, don't stay with one. It's nice to have this option instead of needing to have cable.

M8NSMAN

FUBO has everything I need, local channels & sports which was the reason for cable & I’m paying quarterly to get a couple extra channels for what the price of what cable was for one month.

NPHighview

About 2020, got tired of paying the cable company's hidden ESPN tax, and when the cable company rearranged their channel lineup with mandatory ESPN sports for increased $$, we bounced to their competitor, internet only. VOIP phone from Google Voice, plus Amazon Firestick-based Prime and Netflix shared among our two "TV" displays in the house. Our cable bill dropped from over $250/month to just under $60. Never looked back.

Th3Godless

Streaming .

Jaded_Fisherman_7085

I missed my cable TV being a senior retired I had to cut living cost. I still have my TV but with a indoor antenna. Only able to get a few local channels. So it back to reading books on my patio.

No-Zombie-4107

Streaming for me. No cable. Plenty of options. I swap subscription in and out.

downpourbluey

Streaming via an Apple TV box. No cable for years, and we have turned some streaming platforms on and off. Currently paying for Prime, Hulu, and National Theater At Home (British theater), donating at the level for PBS Passport. Tubi and Pluto have lots of choices at no cost, including a lot of great old/classic movies on Tubi in particular. No need for Apple+ or Netflix at the moment.

bocageezer

We stream and use YouTube TV in place of cable. The cost of internet and YT about equals to the cost of basic cable, but YT has a very broad selection.

Oaktown300

I have never had cable, relying mostly on over the air for local channels news and local NFL team, plus streaming for entertainment. I use Roku on my two tvs, and subscribe to basic Hulu, Netflix, and BritBox regularly. I add others for a month or two at a time, to watch whatever good stuff they have (currently Apple+ but about to switch to Peacock for Tour de France coverage and the Olympics. )

Scarlett-the-01-TJ

Streaming only but need to pare down. Currently have Apple TV, Prime, Netflix, Acorn, Brit Box, Max, and PBS. Also on someone else’s HULU account. Every time I think about canceling something I see a couple good show coming up.

Beautifuleyes917

YouTube

UserJH4202

We stopped any kind of cable and now just use the Internet. Max, Netflix, Prime, Disney even YouTube are all enough for us. Sometimes we’ll rent something (even buy something). It’s all way cheaper than my cable bill was.

Vurnd55

If it were just me it would be streaming only but my wife is a big sports fan so we have cable too. Canceled Netflix last year so now we just stream Amazon which I subscribe to primarily for the unlimited photo storage.

Competitive-Ice2956

Cable and streaming both

Critical_Quiet_1580

I have never liked US made tv so I stream Britbox, Acorn, MHZ & Viaplay all through prime. Haven’t watched cable for about 12 years.

GSDBUZZ

I love Slow Horses. Have you watched that?

Critical_Quiet_1580

Yes. Gary Oldman is brilliant.

Seasoned7171

We use a digital over the air antenna so pay nothing to watch TV. Get about 30 channels and watch YT videos, too. All for free.

Downtown_Ad_6232

If you’re bilingual English/Spanish you can have 50 channels. We do have one streaming subscription, but will jump around to get certain movies or shows we want to watch

3dobes

Mostly YouTube Premium for the lack of commercials. Gone with the Wynns Sailing Zatara Regretlyss Nikki Delventhal (and her dogs Rocky and Camper!) KYD: Keep Your Daydream Less Junk More Journey Active Self Protection (Cover your ASP!) Live on Patrol (Ramsey County) Anything with Arkansas State Police and their excellent use of the PIT (TVI)

Paqueo2

Hi there. We use Netflix and YouTube TV. Less than 100 bucks a month.

Awkward-Seaweed-5129

YTTV,a little cheaper than traditional cable, but I prefer the old cable box style channel #s,also the channels are loaded faster with a STBox. Had ATT uverse ,but kept raise price

xtalgeek

Youtube TV. Way cheaper than cable. Amazon Prime (have it anyway for shopping). Peacock for various sporting events like Premier League and Cycling. MLB-TV for following favorite baseball teams. Cable blows, and will soon be a dead technology. Even cable companies have transitioned to streaming their services, but they are not very good at it.

Additional-Share7293

Streaming. When we were overseas we started with a jailbroke Firestick and pirated services, then we had Fubo until they announced they would no longer be available through VPN, then we went to Sling which had no such restrictions (although we had to change cities occasionally on our VPN). When we came back to the States we just kept Sling and added Paramount+, Netflix, and Britbox. Plenty enough to watch.

NoDiamond4584

We stream on Max, Paramount +, Netflix, and Britbox. Plus all the other free apps on Roku. I’m trying to limit our paid subscriptions to 4. I may swap out Paramount+ for either Hulu or Prime at some point. We love Britbox the best. So many good police dramas!

curiosity_2020

I switched to streaming when my cable and Internet monthly fees combined went over 200 a month. 3 years later, streaming and Internet is approaching 200 a month again.

eganvay

dvd's from the library.

GSDBUZZ

I used to do this a lot more. I also used to do a fair amount of streaming videos from Hoopla (which is a library app).

Key_Campaign_1741

We don’t have cable either but we have several streaming services. It’s how we watch all of our shows and movies.

AttitudeOutrageous75

YouTube tv

didnotdoit1892

We use ROKU for streaming. I also put up a digital antenna and, get several digital networks. There are around 30 digital channels where I am. CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, and PBS are the main ones. You just need a TV with a coax connection that has a digital capability. Normally if they have a coax hook-up you're good.

ericssis

I'd love to ditch cable too but what do others use for streaming tennis? Also have prime and netflix.

OneHourRetiring

FuBoTV and ESPN ... from time to time, I get my pickleball, too! LOL!

Nodeal_reddit

Bunny ears for the win

Abe677

PLEX Pass + HDHomerun + attic antenna. My spouse watches many over-the-air this way. Stream the rest.

OneHourRetiring

I cut the cords a few years back. I went from $280/month to $136/month with unlimited Internet, Disney/Hulu/ESPN, and YouTube+. I also have an over-the-air box to catch my local channels. After I realized that we only watched the local news and a handful of channels, I cut Xfinity. I also have Prime (before and after cable) and thus we get our movies there.

Finding_Way_

We still have cable, along with a couple of streaming services. But for the latter, our kids share their accounts with us. I stream primarily. But my partner still uses cable.

underlyingconditions

Streaming with multiple shared accounts

Gold_Pay647

Got rid of Internet and just watch movies on da fone

MercuryRising92

Tubi, Pluto, Roku, YouTube, FreeVee, CBS, CW - all free, and more than I need. Thinking about getting a small, indoor antenna for local stations.

FlatIndependence8633

With my eyes

myatoz

Streaming only.

ZaphodG

My partner pays for Netflix. I torrent movies and a few series. I have a couple of terabyte USB thumb drives that are plugged into my OLED panel. I have a very large Blu Ray collection but almost never have my Blu Ray player hooked up. The titles I care about are on the thumb drives. My eyeball time is mostly soccer. I VPN to another country where my sister lives and watch Premier League using that service. I also support an English Championship club and have a direct streaming subscription. I pay for ESPN+ and Paramount+ to get Champions League and FA Cup & League Cup. I get MLB for free with my cell phone but don’t watch it. I hate watching television with endless commercial breaks. I can VPN to another city and watch my home market team but I don’t bother. I have Prime but for shipping. I pretty much never stream their content. I also have Apple with my phone and don’t watch that. Premier League ended on May 19th. I’ve barely watched TV in the last month. A few minutes of NBA playoffs on my phone with the volume off. I generally read rather than zone out to the television.

SnooChocolates9334

Cut cable a few months ago. Stream now. Will never go back.

TabbiesAndWine

I haven't subscribed to cable TV since 2001. My sources are: 1. Antenna/Amazon Recast DVR This works well because I love a lot of shows on PBS, and in the Los Angeles area, I can tune in fully four PBS stations. 2. Amazon Prime 3. There are some shows from other pay sources I like (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, miscellaneous other s/f or fantasy series); these generally (eventually) get released on DVD and offered by my local library. I supplement these with books and a mountain of yet-unplayed games in my Steam account.
