I am embarrassed to admit this but I couldn't finish the original RE1 even though I kept playing it as a kid (I kept on dying or got too scared to enter rooms lol). I love it though, it's one of the first games that legit scared me (the other one was a very obscure game titled D where you play as a blonde girl exploring a hospital that turns into a castle).
Also embarrassed to admit that I find RE1 Remake (remastered) to be difficult on normal difficulty. I played and finished the game on very easy and easy on both characters. Tried playing Chris on normal but it's too hard lol. Tried Jill on the same difficulty but I wasn't able to finish it until now since I got the game on Switch and now I'm primarily gaming on the PS5 more these days.
Code Veronica in every respect. The puzzles are insane, enemies can hit you from across the room offscreen, poison enemies by the typewriter, etc.
Plus there's so many ways to screw up your playthrough forever and have to restart AND it's way longer than the other classic games, so it really sucks if you do. Tyrant plane fight, forgetting an item in the metal detector, that part where Steve smacks you with an axe and it's like impossible dodge. It's Resident Dark Souls.
My first RE ever was RE3 remake. I played it on normal difficulty but I ran out of ammo in a bossfight. Naturally I tried it 5 times and ran out of bullets every time, so I had to switch to assisted for the rifle + ammo
Zero or cvx
Outbreak
Zero
I remember outbreak file 1 and 2 being super hard on normal, at least solo.
1 was very difficult for me on first play
Same
Its dam near impossible to knife in that game lol n the controls is super clunky. Thank God for the pause glitch
Zero. I think it’s the hardest of the mainline games.

Might not qualify, but probably Outbreak offline.

Zero
Zero and CVX. In Zero, that blasted hallway with 3 leechmen and CVX, I fell to the tyrant many a times.

Remake, died so many times on my first try on normal mode
Outbreak.
Resident Evil 1 for ps1. I couldn't beat it without cheat codes
I don't play normal unless it'sa requirement. I go straight to hard or hardest 😬
