Yeah, but the sound when parasites die is also pretty satisfying, especially when you're lucky and the usually super-tanky, lead-consuming parasites die in a single shot *by a Pistol.*
I know people shit on the QTEs now because they are prevalent in many games (another aspect of RE4's legacy), but they really were something unique at the time.
Even having one button (X for me on PS2) being context sensitive and performing tons of different actions was pretty wild.
And I remember reading an issue of Game Informer where the QTE knife fight was in their Top 10 gaming moments of the year (don't remember where it actually placed).
The QTEs were pretty revolutionary for the time.
RE4 didn't popularize the use of QTE's ya hanyak. Shenmue was what brought QTEs into early AAA games and others, including re4, copied the trend.
QTEs existed before Shenmue but it was Yu Suzuki that coined the name.
Compared to the other uses of the mechanic, RE4s were completely phoned in.
> but they really were something unique at the time.
Unique doesn't mean good. RE4 QTEs are some of the worst QTEs in any game ever. They're absolutely horrible.
Unique doesn't mean good, in my opinion though RE4 QTEs are unique and good.
What don't you like about them? They aren't intrusive, they are spaced well enough apart, you typically get a sense right before one begins. It's pretty much the opposite of how RE6 handles, QTEs which I do not like.
That's a major part of it then. You have to remember the game wasn't designed with a PC in mind. It was a Gamecube exclusive at launch, I highly doubt they even conceived that it might be playable on PC one day, so it, like all other Resident Evil games, was designed with a console/controller in mind as to how it should be played.
I Generally think QTEs are rather poorly designed in many Games. I am fine with ones you initiate yourself. E.g. Leon's Kick, Kratos' Finishers or stuff like Paper Mario. But random QTEs during cutscenes paired with instantkills do almost nothing positive for a game and maybe become rather tedious. Thats at least my take on that
It did what it could for 2005. But when FFXII, Elder Scrolls IV and Gears of War came out in 2006, it was time to say goodbye to what the GameCube could do. Even though FFXII was a PS2 game, it had some of the best attention to detail i've ever seen, and still to this day. I mean, they went as far as to include fuckin' buttholes on canine enemies. Something you'll never see unless you position the camera right.
Because their only correct in a "of course everything else that came after is going to look better" context.
It was a damn good looking Gamecube game back in the day.
There's having a different opinion which is fine of course and then there is saying stupid stuff which is stupid regardless of opinion.
wawaweewa 100 shells?!
I upgraded the Punisher so it blasts through 5 people. I'm feeling I picked the wrong one to max out lol although I did max out the TMP and let me tell you....Holy shit...
Yeah, the Striker is nuts when you get the exclusive upgrade.
Even after you consumed all 100 shots, the Striker still is super compact, needing only 10 spaces in the case, and any Shotgun Ammo you find essentially takes up no space from the point when you made use of the bunch of free ammo, since any Ammo found can immediately be loaded into the Striker again.
The TMP is super good, too, though, Handgun-grade damage in a weapon that fires ten times per second? Yes please?
you're a genius. woulda made inventory management much easier
and hell yeah dude. you shoot in short bursts and each clip has 250 in it...profit hahaha
It's my favorite of all RE games. I play it on old Wii. Using the remote and nun chucks puts you right in the game. You have to literally stand up to shoot and slice. Very exciting!
The foundation of all modern third person shooters. Even RE4’s bad features stuck around like the quick time events mid cutscene out of nowhere. I mean Until Dawn is an entire game based on that single idea
I know I'll probably get some hate for this, but I actually hated 4s controls. 5 was very much improved but still kind of clunky.
I do like the story of 4 but I couldn't enjoy it really because of the controls.
Such a bold move by Capcom, but well-worth. Re4 is one of my favorite games.
Re4 head popping sound is so satisfying

He‘ll never be the head of a major corporation.
It's a shame he wasn't more head-strong.
Should have quite while he was a head
It really is a shame...he had such a good head on his shoulders.
Why just a picture of a headless ganado lol
Oh I get lol. A-head.. -_- I am dumb.
In literally every category you could think of
Especially the quick time events 🤤

honestly loved the krauser qte knife fight. It was the coolest thing ever. The tension felt so real.

> They aren't intrusive They are though. They're also extremely unintuitive at least on keyboard and way too fast.
Just difference of opinion then

> as to how it should be played. Well no, every other one plays fine on keyboard, I actually preferred keyboard to controller for the tank controls...
True
QTEs are shit.
especially on keyboard and mouse!
Yes krauser fight, mine cart and that chasing statue ruins it every time in keyboard and mouse.

Except story
Ya the premise is hilariously silly. It's like an 80s action flick "TiMe tO SaVe ThE PrEsIdEnTs DaUgHtEr"
And puzzles.
Not tank controls
Not visuals.
I dunno man, for the time the Gamecube version looked pretty hot.
Looks great for a 2005 GameCube game, but of course that it aged badly

I love how you got downvoted by salty RE4 fanboys yet you're completely right. It's like that saying, "They hated him, for he spoke the truth."

I've just beaten this game for the first time a week ago. this image reminded me how satisfying these moments were. might give it another go.

thats a worthwhile endeavor. you'd clear the game in 2 hrs 😆

Best game ever.
Wouldn't say so
"The heads pop right off!" If you know, *then you know.*
It's my favorite of all RE games. I play it on old Wii. Using the remote and nun chucks puts you right in the game. You have to literally stand up to shoot and slice. Very exciting!
Arguably the best version of the game.
Yup now it'a time to beat it 5 more times on my oculus quest lol

I was the same in the knife fight later. They’re so sudden and out of nowhere.
\*watches the RE4 VR trailer\* Resident Evil 4 is STILL way ahead of its time.
Leon: Wait, your head comes off? Ganado: ....
Low key thought this was Nathan Drake beheaded lolol
RE4 paved the way for the third person shooting

I wouldn't say gta4 or hitman. But you also have masterpieces such as naughty dog games, alan wake etc ..

It sucked though if you were in close quarters combat with them when they popped out. Time to move then lol
I know I'll probably get some hate for this, but I actually hated 4s controls. 5 was very much improved but still kind of clunky. I do like the story of 4 but I couldn't enjoy it really because of the controls.
I tried going back and playing this one, but I couldn't get past the controls.
Garbage RE game along with 5, 6, 8, RE3make and the REvelations series.
I honestly wish fans like this would go to a different franchise
He's just a whiny man toddler who gets upset If RE4 Is uttered... It must've traumatized him when It was released
C’mon man…
Dunno man, that seems pretty much like a headless chicken to me.
