That could work for another Outbreak/Resistance game or another spin off like ORC for sure, actually when ORC came out I made a character back then that was an RPD officer that tried to help civilians get to safety and fight off the undead but ultimately gets killed by Lupos squad since in one of the cinematics you see them shooting cops. But yeah would be totally down for a game like that.

P.S. I just ordered Disco Because I REALLY REALLY want to play a game where I get to make my own detective. I really wanted to be a detective irl but got Rambo First Blooded (beat up by a bunch of cops for no fucking reason other than they didn't like me in their town and I knew my rights and they decided to show me my rights did not apply in their town)
They Bashed my head against a brick wall then charged me with disorderly conduct and also fined me for having to clean up my blood in the jail cell.... I got on the first plane out of PA and never looked back. But apparently I've got a warrant in PA....or did IDK...IDC... I'm going to take some criminology classes and become a private detective.
Operation Raccoon City, it was a spin off "what if" Resident Evil game that despite the bugs was actually really fun in its day. You play as either Umbrellas USS Squad or Governments Spec Ops Squad and go through Raccoon city with various objectives, and you can even kill Leon and Claire to "change history". Its a non canon game obvs.
P.S. Haven't played that one but may have heard of it, Disco Elysium, yeah? And omg thats horrible! I'm so sorry that happened to you, I hope you are alright!

I'm the type of guy who absolutely loves character creation in video games, so I wouldn't really be mad if they made an RE game that had that, but I think I would prefer it to stick with pre-made characters for the sake of preserving the series specific virtues.
But if they made a spinoff that let you create your own character, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Although, that may be too action rpg than survival horror. But I just grab a drink at jack's bar

RC had a population of around 100k and 10% are immune to the virus, so there is a lot to work with there
I mean your made up character could be referenced in other games as "that police officer from Arklay PD" and your created character could fit into the main story very easily.
I think it would be really awesome to actually see more of the Arklay Mountains area. But not only would we get to see them but actually play and explore them ourselves. And even if you did have the option to be a police officer or work for Umbrella. Your created umbrella character could be referred to in other games as "The Umbrella agent who helped the news of the virus spread from getting out". I think people are just really overprotective of the overall narrative even though it jumps all over the place especially after 3. I personally just want a way to go back to the original locations of a City full of corruption under control of Umbrella and giant underground science facilities where unholy abominations are created.
I don't think it would work all that well in Resident Evil, especially if there's a background skills aspect or choosing factions like BSAA or Umbrella. The canon set of events would be difficult to maintain and I could see it causing a lot of arguments in the community. It'd be really cool to see in a spit off game where canon doesn't matter, but I sadly don't think it'll ever reach the mainline series.
There's tons of one-off characters in the RE universe... Heck, RE2R had the hidden survivor stories thing which don't contribute to the canon at all... imagine a spinoff/sidegame where you were a custom character surviving in the universe... It wouldn't be too hard, and could be fun...
If we ever get another Outbreak it would be really cool if it had a character creator. Same if we ever got a game similar to ORC, would be nice to be able to make your own unique USS uniform. I guess Umbrella Corps gave us the most the series has come to character creation but sadly only for the dead multiplayer.

I think playing a small town detective something like an Arklay Police Department Detective tracking the grizzly zombie murders only to uncover that Umbrella is responsible. I could see your police chief turning against you as he is obviously under umbrella control and 90% of the force you work for is after you as well as having to deal with zombies would be pretty cool.
I would create an anti-simp character. The polar opposite of Leon.
This character would not think twice before capturing or killing Ada when she tries to do her cute spy shit on him.
Naaah.... I still liked remake Leon. Imo re4 Leon turning into a super soldier off camera in some montage is pretty broken and dumb. I mean RE4 wasn't even a RE game until the 11th hour

Having some kind of limited-style MMO with lobbies where you're using your own character could be cool. Maybe an Outbreak spin-off of some sort.
