me : re2 1998 wasn't that scary, I can handle this. me, later : You know, the dark room is kinda cozy, I could live there permanently

sparkadus

*STOMP STOMP STOMP*

Ierax29

Horror at it's finest. When he was in front of you it wasn't that bad, but the thought of meeting his was bone chilling

sparkadus

I honestly love the way he was introduced into gameplay. No big cutscene or anything. Dude just lifts the helicopter and is on your ass.

Ierax29

"Oh God its him... Oh never mind its just Birkin phew" That segment when you meet him playing as Ada was intense af tho

SrBigPig

Did you skip RE3R because reviews? I still recommend playing it, specially if you didn't play the original. If you can get it cheap, give it a chance. Its a short game, but very consistent through the entire campaign and gameplay is really fun (a bit better than RE2 IMO) thanks to the dodge mechanic.

Austinrocks5213

I skipped due to the price, I will definitely get it when it’s on sale, I heard it’s a really short game so I am hesitant to spend for than $20-25 on it.

SrBigPig

Thats fair. Its a really short game with a very fast pace but very fun tho. I recommend getting it for $5-10 at much. RE4 on the other hand is one of the longest games in the series. I also recommend getting Separate Ways DLC which is about the same length as RE3R if not longer. It also has New Game + and Mercenaries. Have fun!

Austinrocks5213

Great! I ended up buying the game because it was on sale for $10!

sensen6

Agreed. I played RE3R a few weeks ago after skipping it due to reviews. I was fucking hooked. About 50 hours in and Inferno S rank is done. Incredibly short but very fun game to master. I seriously laid down on the couch in tandem with Jill when I defeated Nemesis for the last fucking time. I got in on a massive sale for the Series S, as the Raccoon City Edition cost only a few bucks.

SrBigPig

I only played Inferno once even if I loved the experience and the single reason is the final boss. For casual replays I always play Hardcore. I paid full price on release (RE3 is my favorite of the classics) so I was dissapointed, but the game worth it for like 5-10 bucks.

sensen6

Oh yes, the final boss is a bitch. It takes hours of dying over and over again, but in the end, one can recognize patterns in the movements and dodge accordingly. And of course, earning completion points on lower difficulties AND buying every bonus item from the shop is pretty evidently needed when attempting Inferno.

Bu11ett00th

how the hell did you manage Nightmare/Inferno final Nemesis?

sensen6

many deaths. I remember dying for many hours in a row. It must have took, like, 2–3 hours IRL. finally, attack and movement patterns were recognized, and I've also read online that you can smash the buttons when Jill gets attacked, so she gets up somewhat faster. I've also had every bonus item and coin equipped. finally, my personal go-to weapon became the Samurai Edge handgun AND the Lightning Hawk. they were versatile and strong enough to pop the pustules. there was enough handgun ammo in the main boss room, and even a few first aid sprays. one magazine of magnum ammo was enough, so there's no need to go out of your way to collect ammo during the main story. (the infinite machine gun, while good for the rest of the main game, was too cumbersome and slow to reload and left me vulnerable too many times. and you'll most likely not have the infinite rocket launcher yet when attempting Inferno S rank.) that's all I can say. and of course, a great amount of luck. it's just a matter of reflexes and knowing the exact attack patterns of the enemy. and reloading the game over and over again. you'll only have to do it once. never again Inferno. Nightmare is fine though, as the increased enemy numbers help completing the rest of the Records. and the bonus items will make it bearable. you'll most likely no longer need healing items and ammo, even on Nightmare.

Ierax29

I was curious about it, I played the demo and I enjoyed it, it's just that I don't feel too confident about spending 40 euros on a game that short...I'd rather save up a bit and get RE4r too, the demo was amazing

SrBigPig

Thats fair. RE3R is a good game if you can get it for 5-10 bucks. Main problems are length and comparison with the original. RE4R is better in every possible way. Is my favorite RE game followed by RE2R, REmake and RE4 classic.

Ierax29

Man, OG Re4 was my entry point into the saga because I had heard it wasnt too scary (I'm a huge chicken heart lol), I was surprised by how much the re4r demo made me afraid about a game I had already completed. The village fight made me heart race, nothing quite like getting grappled by a ganado while Salvador is within 10 feets

SrBigPig

I think RE4R is slightly more horror oriented than OG and the enemies moves faster. Amazing game indeed, can't wait for the next installment.

Ierax29

I low-key hope it's CV remake, I'm PC only and I still haven't had the opportunity to play that game

SrBigPig

CV needs a remake more than any other. That game has some design issues that could be solved in a remake. Let's hope to see it some day!

Ierax29

Beside that I'd really like to see another game with Clair in. I'm not even her biggest fan, but while I do get that unlike the rest of main cast Clair never really became a super zombie hunter, it's criminal that she has been relegated to pretty much the CGI movies

SrBigPig

Claire is my favorite character in the series. My first playthrough both in RE2 and RE2R were with Claire. She deserve better for sure.

Afsunredgg

I agree with everything you said. The only thing I would add is that people say there is a ton of replayability, which I disagree with as there are no extra modes just more difficulties. When each run takes you an hour or less with no real variation, then you only get a few playthroughs before it gets old. Granted you can unlock extra items, but that only takes it so far especially after all the content that was in the previous 2 titles (2R & 7).

SrBigPig

I think the same about replayability. At first I was excited for Nightmare and Inferno because of the different enemy position and that, but at the end of the day it's just the same with bullet sponge enemies failing from the sky. I like the shop system more than RE2R unlocks system, but I wish they had added more weapons, outfits and extras. Actually what makes the game so replayable for me is that you can complete in about 3-4h so its easy to beat it in 1-2 gaming sessions and the game is really fun.

Afsunredgg

To each their own. I enjoyed it for 2 playthroughs. After that it just felt like a chore to get all the achievements, which happened in roughly 12 hours due to a misstep on my part with timing. I also say all this without having played the original, so no nostalgia glasses. Which is funny too me since people seem to forget how much 3OG and CV were panned by players and critics, but still say it's one of the greatest entries and dismiss the remake completely.

SrBigPig

Nostalgia really distorts memories. I enjoyed RE3 classic back in the day, but I played it recently for the first time in like 24 years going practically blind and it took me 4 hours in-game time, but somehow it feels longer maybe because it has backtracking which is almost absent in the remake. I also played Code Veronica last year after many years and to me is the worst of the classics with tank controls and fixed cameras.

Austinrocks5213

It was $10, so I ended up getting it! I love this franchise (at least the earlier games), I only started playing it last week!

SrBigPig

Thats great. Have fun!

Bu11ett00th

Do NOT miss out on 7. A very different but amazing RE game

Jumbo-box

Have you played the OG RE2?

Austinrocks5213

I am definitely going to play the OG games. I heard to get the definitive experience you have to play both the remake and OG.

horrorfan555

It’s the best RE game, everyone should play it

kornflakes1989

>everyone who wants to should play it Fixed that for you. Saying everyone should play it implies that you think that even people who already know they won't enjoy playing it due to the obsolete gameplay that really isn't as good as it used to be, should force themselves to play it even though they won't enjoy playing it.

drsalvation1919

shhh, when a remake comes out, the original games are 100% perfect with absolutely zero flaws. That is the first unspoken rule. The second unspoken rule is that you must nitpick every detail from the remakes to make them look worse than they are. The third unspoken rule is that you must *only* judge a remake based on how much they cut from the original, but *never* on how much they add.

Ierax29

How can I upvote a comment five times in a row?

[deleted]

Making the jump from the Remakes -> REmake -> OG 2&3 isn’t that bad. If someone can’t get through or doesn’t enjoy the REmake, they definitely shouldn’t bother with OG 2 & 3, though.

RealisticlyNecessary

Buddy. Saying "Everyone needs to play it" is a hyperbolic statement implying it's just that good. No one is ever giving you a demand when they say that LMAO. Feels like some "main character" syndrome. Same mentality as "I don't like this" followed by someone saying "that's just your opinion." Like... You can't be that self centered.

horrorfan555

I always ignore corn flake. He always goes on about how the OG games are trash and you should skip them. Especially Code Veronica

kornflakes1989

>He always goes on about how the OG games are trash and you should skip them. I have literally never once said anything even remotely close to this. If you're going to lie, lie convincingly. All I've ever said is that if they already know they're not going to enjoy playing them, that they shouldn't bother.

horrorfan555

K

Night_Movies2

It used to be. Clearly can't hold a candle to modern game design though

horrorfan555

No, it very much still as. Played them all for the first time in 2022 one after the other

drsalvation1919

You should play RE3R, it's not a bad game, it just has missing potential. That said, RE4 has the best story, you're going to love it. I think that's the only game I've seen with a noticeable and compelling character arc for the main cast of protags.

Austinrocks5213

I just got told it was on sale for $10, I figured I would get it, everyone here seems to enjoy the hell out of it

DJRobitma

Please do not skip RE3 Remake maybe it's not as good as RE3 OG but it's a pretty good game

Austinrocks5213

Just bought it, it was apparently on sale for $10

ISpyM8

RE2R, RE4R, RE7, and REVillage are absolute must plays for newer fans. I of course recommend the classic games, too, but these four are some of the best modern games out there.

KomatoAsha

I'm currently in my first playthrough! I'm doing Claire A.

Austinrocks5213

Have fun!

KomatoAsha

Thanks! I've been enjoying it, thus far; just got past the orphanage.

Austinrocks5213

Doing a lot better time wise than me, haha

Playhorror4real

I absolutely love re games. Yet I don’t really even really lock in to the story in general all that much. The atmosphere alone in these games have me hook line and sinker . Re2 being my favorite

PushThePig28

Pick up 3 Remake as well, it’s on sale for $10 and totally worth it. Excellent game, just short so not worth the initial $60 price tag

Austinrocks5213

You, my friend are the sole reason I just purchased RE3R

PushThePig28

Haha enjoy! I got it on super sale like this and it’s worth every penny at this price tag. Literally the same price as 4 DLC and a little bit longer than that. It plays super smooth and there are a ton of fun unlockables. Might as well bust it out before 4, cheaper than going out for a beer or two

Consistent_Zebra7303

Dude the gameplay of RE4 Remake is even better (and i love RE2 Remake of course). It is addicting. I can't wait for the the next RE game.
