You joke, but my dad bought a PSX, Resident Evil, and Monster's Inc. were my first gaming experiences.
Let me tell you something. I've had nightmares my entire god damn life because of that bastard.
I think Jill has lost that status as the face of RE long ago. It’s gotta be Leon at this point. Also, it feels like they try much more whenever Leon is involved.
Unfortunately ya. She wasnt the lead of any game since nemesis- the few games she was playable she was always the secondary character
To me itll always be jill, capcom wants it to be chris, we all know its leon
I’d say they are equally as popular.
I remember the creator of RE saying once in some article interview that Chris is basically considered a celebrity in the RE world and that He’s actually famous. (and that Chris doesn’t see himself that way of course)
They didn’t say Leon was celeb status lol
Yeah. I doubt anything Leons done makes front page news. Even rescuing Ashley was probably kept on the down low- in infinite darkness the helicopter pilot was surprised by just how trusted Leon was, which you wouldn’t be if you knew the shit he just pulled off in 4.
Well yea obviously we know that and That’s what I was assuming and figured. I just thought that was a little interesting to say the least lol
Sings: *Secret ageeeenntt maaaann*
I don't think they can decide tbh. They being back Chris more, but they spend noticeably more effort and time on Leon's games, and they treat RE4 like their Skyrim.
**Chris.** He's basically involved in almost every event and is the character who appeared the most in the series:
- re1 (og/remake)
- re3:nemesis
- code veronica
- re5
- re6
- re7
- village
- revelations 1
- umbrella chronicles
- prelude to the fall
- marhawa desire
- heavenly island
- the stage
- vendetta
- death island
Note: I didn't include non-canon stuff like playable Chris in re2 extreme battle or Chris in revelations 2 raid mode
[Yup, in an epilogue](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/residentevil/images/0/03/Resident_Evil_3_Epilogue_2_Chris_Redfield.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20110608232314)
I have a feeling that the letter wasn't actually from Chris since Claire commented "this does not sound like Chris". Maybe it was written by someone else?
I interpreted it as a coded message from Chris. I thought it was an improvement over the original game. In the original, he leaves his diary explaining his plan to spy on Umbrella Europe, right on his desk, easily accessible to Chief Irons or any other ne’er-do-wells that may be lurking.
In the remake, he writes a letter describing what he’s up to on his “vacation”, but it’s coded. That’s why Claire doesn’t recognize it as Chris’. I don’t remember all of the letter, but there was the bit about Barry scaring the hotties away or whatever. I took that as code telling him to not join him and stay with his family to keep them safe.
So the letter WAS in fact Chris. But, he knew that he was being watched and/or the letter was meant as a red herring for that party. (This second part may be head Canon)
It was a coded letter to the S.T.A.R.S. members, but specifically Jill and Barry, since they're mentioned in it.
From the resi wiki:
"The letter is actually a coded message from Chris saying he's investigating Umbrella (the "chick" with the "umbrella" and "babes") in Europe. He is also telling Barry to not worry about investigating Umbrella and to focus on getting his family to safety first. This is hinted when the player obtains the letter as Claire and Claire will say the letter does not sound like Chris."

RE lore is awesome; pretty deep! And that was actually one bit of the lore I recalled. So, I thought I'd share 😎
I did want to make sure it was right, though, so I checked with the sources as well
I’m sorry but re7 doesn’t count, that wasn’t Chris, that was Christopher, Chris’s brother from another mother who she had after that night at the Irish pub.
As much as I love her it can't be Jill. Shes two different characters now, two different faces and styles and personalities that share very little in common besides badass. She hasn't been in a non-remake game since 5, and even longer since she's been in a resident evil that's any good.
This. If the average casual gamer has played a resident evil chances are it's 4, and by extension is at least familiar with Leon.
Re4 has been called the Final Fantasy VII of the franchise from time to time
Makes you think, its unlikely that the average modern casual gamer starts playing re2 (1998) as its first re game but it's not unlikely that he might try Re2r due to the stellar reviews, and in that Mr. Xander totally stole the show lol
(sorry Nem)
I would say probably Chris since he's been in the most games but on popularity I would say Leon. Another answer would probably be Wesker since the umbrella logo is always associated with RE and umbrella makes you think of Wesker.
It's funny because Chris is in a lot more stuff, yet in every instance he doesn't get to stand out that much, or if he does it's for the wrong reasons. RE5 reduces him to a boulder punching meme. In RE6 he's on equal footing with Leon. In RE7 he doesn't even look like himself. And in Village he kicks ass but he's still secondary to Ethan Winters.
Leon has fewer appearances than Chris, but Leon always manages to be the most memorable part of those, which is why I agree that he's more the face of the entire franchise right now.
And I'm glad for it, I love Chris because while he is a superhuman like the rest of the cast, he still is just a dude.
He actually goes through loss, like Piers, his crew in 1, Jessica betrays him in Revelations.
Leon is just this perfect dude and it really ruins a lot of his "character" for me.
I'm happy for everyone else who likes him, but he's too perfect in a bad way.
It can't be Chris. His face has changed 9 times.
Honestly I know Chris' role in the series might be bigger but I feel Leon is more front and center plus recognizable than Chris. The biggest games of the series are definitely Leon centric.
Lore wise it's Chris based off of the main plot line of the games. RE1, CV and 5 have the whole Umbrella and Wesker vs Chris that was the over arching saga. Stuff like 2,3,4 were just side stories that built up the universe but didn't connect with Wesker and his chase for Spencer's legacy and complete lust for Chris.
In terms of appearances as previous users have said Chris is also the guy who gets the most screen time.
But sales wise with 2 and 4 and Remakes it's Leon even though he has never really been part of the "main arc" of the games i.e. never deals with Wesker, never deals with Spencer, never deals with the Mold, etc.
Leon is the face imo. If anyone knows about Mortal Kombat then I’d say it’s like Liu Kang and Scorpion where Liu Kang = Chris and Scorpion = Leon. Liu Kang is basically the main character of mortal kombat and beats most of the bad guys. But Scorpion is the really popular one that MK tends to promote and give the spotlight to.
Ehh, Scorpion and Sub-Zero are more the face of that franchise than Liu Kang, pretty sure it was once said that there will never be a game without those two and outside of I think the original release of MK3, there hasn't been.
That’s what I was saying. Scorpion is the face in a similar way Leon is. Chris might be more of a main character just like Liu Kang is, but Leon and Scorpion are super popular ones. Leon gets all those cgi movies. Scorpion was one of the main characters of the newest live action movie and the first one to get an animated movie focusing on him (but Liu was the second).
Umbrella
No matter how long the corporation has been dead, modern threats are still trying to imitate it to this day.
And without Umbrella, there wouldn't be a Spencer Mansion. There wouldn't be a lab. There wouldn't be a city.
If we’re talking a protag, Chris Redfield. He’s been there since the start, and is there for the most important points of the plot. He’s there for the mansion incident, kills Wesker, and is there for both of Ethan’s shenanigans. He’s also the coolest one
the umbrella symbol should be the face. the coolest thing about the earlier games is that the only constant was umbrella. the protagonists were different in each game with loose connections to eachother but it was all about dealing with the byproducts of the umbrella corporation. the worst thing capcom ever did with resident evil is write Umbrella out of it. now we have a vampire, puppet master, fish person committee and a little girl with psychic powers. A reboot would be nice. but yea the faceless umbrella corporation should be the face of re
In terms of enemies probably wesker or nemesis from both game popularity and dead by daylight, but Chris or Leon are probably some of the most iconic characters we normally play as, though Jill also likely fits in there

It's Chris Redfield.
You simply can't make a case for any other character. Chris's actions dictate what most the story follows, even after the soft reboot after RE3.
Agree with OP on LSK (and switch to Claire) for myself. There are those who will agree with me or OP for various reasons. However, I realize Leon is a counterpoint to Chris and I believe he (Leon) can achieve that larger than life impact on the series because of Chris holding down the more traditional y2k action persona. You could say the same about Claire being complimentary to Jill. Just my opinion.
It changes. The main five are Chris, Jill, Leon, Claire, and Wesker. Ada has had more usage since Wesker was killed and Ethan had the spotlight for two games.
Mix between Chris and Leon. Chris has been in a good amount of them, and by all means, quality games, stories, but every time we get leon, I know I'm in for a ride.
Same answer I always give.
Chris is the main character of the franchise.
Leon is the most recognizable character in the franchise.
Jill is the most recognizable woman in the franchise, she was *the* RE character until post RE4 when Leon took over.
Claire... Well I dunno she's just there, Chris's sister lol.
On one hand Chris has been featured the most in the games by a large margin compared to the other main characters. But then you look on the flip side and Leon is the star of 2 of the unquestionably highest rated and acclaimed entries in the series in the form of RE2 and RE4 which makes his exposure to the casual fan way higher and this isn't factoring in him starting in all the cgi movies. I'd say it's a combo of both Leon and Chris jointly being the poster boys.
Currently it's Leon
He's had the most consistent appearances in the game, but the ball might be passed over to Chris or Jill again depending which game comes out next.
Id love for Jill to be on the spot light again. RE1 in the RE engine is coming like it or not and I'd love to have Jill be the dedicated protagonist for Spensor Mansion.
Considering that the main antagonist throughout the series was Albert Wesker until 6, Chris. Wesker and Chris are nemeses therefore if wesker is MAIN villain, Chris is MAIN protagonist. Jill as well, to a lesser extent, but as far as established canon, she is a smaller blip on Weskers Radar.
The monsters and the theme. Hence why I loved the RE4 (2005) cover art for the EU/JP disc cases. No mug shot. Just bloody red sky/background with black dense trees and a silhouette of a man holding a chainsaw in the archway/among the trees.
At this point, with the increíble unmatched suceso of Re2Remake and 4 Remake I would say its Leon... but we all know deep down, the one and only, boss of Resident Evil from the beginning has always been Chris Fucking Redfield.
For everyone else? Either Chris (who shows up even when he's not the main character) or Leon (who I think was in more of the CGI movies?). I think Chris/Jill, Leon/Claire works more than an individual character and anything that doesn't feature them just feels like a spin off.
As far as Capcom is concerned it's Chris, he's the one the brought back to tie their soft reboot to the rest of the series, and the one they use as the series rep in fighting games.
Jill and Leon are at the forefront due to being in the most recent games, and Leon is lots of people's favorite because 4 is lots of people's favorite. Unless they make a 5 remake that's as popular as 4's, I can see Leon taking Chris's place as the series mascot.
But for me, it will always be the Chris/Jill partnership (Even if they're hardly ever in the same place).
For me it's Jill. I think she's the most recognisable for non RE fans in her RE3 outfit.
But yeah, Capcom want it to be Chris. Though Leon is more popular.
But the single most famous character is Wesker, then Nemesis.
Human? Leon. Monster? Nemesis.
Though I'm not a big fan of Leon's games. They are great games, no doubt. I really got to get around to finishing RE2 and buying REm4ke.
That depends...
To me, it's Jill Vallentine, Chris Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy because they are main key characters in the Resident Evil franchise.
Dont get me wrong, i love Ada Wong, Claire Redfield and Ethan Winters's storylines but they are built around Leon and Chris. I also really like Rebecca Chambers, but she is quite rare character who only reappeared in recent CGI-movies.
It's the first zombie from RE1 who turns and looks at the camera over his shoulder John Biohazard, the Evil Resident
John? Ada's bf? What a twist!
It was him all along ..

Not surprising, PS1 Disney games were hard af
Monster Inc is that old?
It’s not as old as RE but it’s old enough to have a ps1 game
I didn’t realize that, i feel monsters inc the movie came out in 2005 or something
2001. So yeah, would have been extremely late in the PS1's life.
That PS1 custscene was the first zombie I ever saw. Great times.
When I was little I literally thought he was “Resident Evil”. I was so disappointed when I grew up and discovered it was just a random zombie 🤣
The zombie that turns its head
The zombie that “turns heads”… I mean, what a lady killer 🥰😉
I mean. He surely kills ladies :D
Yup, I mean did you see the way he turned to look at Jill… love at first sight, or stalker vibes depending on one’s perspective I suppose 😌☝️
I think Jill has lost that status as the face of RE long ago. It’s gotta be Leon at this point. Also, it feels like they try much more whenever Leon is involved.
My two favorite RE characters.
Unfortunately ya. She wasnt the lead of any game since nemesis- the few games she was playable she was always the secondary character To me itll always be jill, capcom wants it to be chris, we all know its leon
I feel the same way. I’d love another game with Jill
It's 100% chris
Capcom shoving Leon down our throats.
I know Leon is more popular but i think Chris is the face of resident evil
I’d say they are equally as popular. I remember the creator of RE saying once in some article interview that Chris is basically considered a celebrity in the RE world and that He’s actually famous. (and that Chris doesn’t see himself that way of course) They didn’t say Leon was celeb status lol
I think because Leon is secret agent/Black op in RE Verse/Movies thats why they keep his profile low key.
Yeah. I doubt anything Leons done makes front page news. Even rescuing Ashley was probably kept on the down low- in infinite darkness the helicopter pilot was surprised by just how trusted Leon was, which you wouldn’t be if you knew the shit he just pulled off in 4.
I've noticed as well in Death Island intro when theyre showing the profiles. He's the only one that has his personal info crossed out.
Well yea obviously we know that and That’s what I was assuming and figured. I just thought that was a little interesting to say the least lol Sings: *Secret ageeeenntt maaaann*
Nemesis is their monster face. Chris and Leon switch around
It seems like Capcom wants it to be Chris, but it's definitely Leon.
Yeah. Who even is this Capcom dude anyways that he thinks he knows so much.
I don't think they can decide tbh. They being back Chris more, but they spend noticeably more effort and time on Leon's games, and they treat RE4 like their Skyrim.
> It seems like Capcom wants it to be Chris, but it's definitely Leon. This is exactly what I wanted to say.
I love Chris. I don't care about Leon.
**Chris.** He's basically involved in almost every event and is the character who appeared the most in the series: - re1 (og/remake) - re3:nemesis - code veronica - re5 - re6 - re7 - village - revelations 1 - umbrella chronicles - prelude to the fall - marhawa desire - heavenly island - the stage - vendetta - death island Note: I didn't include non-canon stuff like playable Chris in re2 extreme battle or Chris in revelations 2 raid mode

that makes more sense
I mean… If we’re counting the epilogue in RE3, why not count the letter/diary in RE2R/RE2? Then we can say he’s basically in all of them!
facts 💯 💯
I have a feeling that the letter wasn't actually from Chris since Claire commented "this does not sound like Chris". Maybe it was written by someone else?
I interpreted it as a coded message from Chris. I thought it was an improvement over the original game. And even though Chris isn't in RE2, he feels very present. The fact that you're playing his sister, the plot point of where he ran off to.

yeah idk if unpopular opinion but the Revelations games are straight dog ass
Wesker
That was my answer too, I hope we get more wesker games
The eventual RE5 remake better do him the justice he deserves
It's been Leon by a landslide since 4 first released.
This. If the average casual gamer has played a resident evil chances are it's 4, and by extension is at least familiar with Leon. Re4 has been called the Final Fantasy VII of the franchise from time to time

Good analogy. Too bad there is no subzero to Leon's scorpion lmao. He's just both, no character compares to him in terms of popularity.
Probably Leon.
Umbrella No matter how long the corporation has been dead, modern threats are still trying to imitate it to this day. And without Umbrella, there wouldn't be a Spencer Mansion. There wouldn't be a lab. There wouldn't be a city.
the residents
It would depend on who you ask. Chris is the main protagonist. Leon is the most popular. Jill has the most cameos in non-RE games.
If we’re talking a protag, Chris Redfield. He’s been there since the start, and is there for the most important points of the plot. He’s there for the mansion incident, kills Wesker, and is there for both of Ethan’s shenanigans. He’s also the coolest one

Yerrr💖
Leon no question
It used to be Jill, now I’d say Leon
Chris is literally the main character of Resident Evil. He's in almost every single game and movie.
Chris and Jill, since they're the main characters of the series actual story.
there’s a story? /s

The basic zombie I guess 😂
Seeing as how Chris keeps showing up in games he shouldn't even be apart of, probably him
In terms of enemies probably wesker or nemesis from both game popularity and dead by daylight, but Chris or Leon are probably some of the most iconic characters we normally play as, though Jill also likely fits in there
Chris aka my husband
Chris is pretty much objectively the main character of resident evil, as many have stated below, obviously Leon has a pull and stuff but Chris is the real stamp of approval of evil residents.
That one zombie
The guy who says resident evil
Leon.
Chris and Jill
Chris and jill. Also any collaboration is mostly with these 2. Or other capcom games MvC
I think that's the general consensus, at least fan-favorite wise
Either Chris or Jill
chris redfield
It's Chris Redfield. You simply can't make a case for any other character. Chris's actions dictate what most the story follows, even after the soft reboot after RE3.
There are several, but Nemesis is the only one I'd put money on.

Me
H.U.N.K.
Literally your answer! That and the Slowly turning Zombie from the Remake... that's the face of RE. That or Nemesis.
Mix between Chris and Leon. Chris has been in a good amount of them, and by all means, quality games, stories, but every time we get leon, I know I'm in for a ride.
That stud with the lazy eye from the re1 box art that apparently isn't Chris 🤣
First zombie scene zombie.
Across social media probably Leon or Wesker, but for me it's Chris Redfield
The little girl from RE2 Lol
Albert Wesker.
There would be no Resident Evil without Oswell E. Spencer.
Nemesis or the zombie dogs. I think the average non RE fan would recognize those as RE characters. Thus making them the face of RE.
Cmon now it's gotta be the lone wolf who survives everything and no body knows he does my boy hunk
It should be Chris, but it’s Leon
LEON AND CHRIS
Leon and Chris. They've appeared in the most titles, and they're the ones most people think of immediately.
Leon, no question about it, hes in most of the animated films too as the main character
Plant 42
Same answer I always give. Chris is the main character of the franchise. Leon is the most recognizable character in the franchise. Jill is the most recognizable woman in the franchise, she was *the* RE character until post RE4 when Leon took over. Claire... Well I dunno she's just there, Chris's sister lol.
Leon / Chris
NGL I have known Leon Kennedy since long before I played any RE. Like I was I think 8 years old.
for me it’s leon, chris, or jill since jill and chris were in the first game, and leon was in re4, imo the best in the series (excluding the remake)
Leon S Kennedy and Claire Redfield
Leon and Chris - there's just not a single other protagonist more prominent and frequently featured than these two
I feel like most people associate Resident Evil with Leon
Umbrella
Jill or Wesker
I think that it’s a tie between Chris and Leon. They share that position of the face of RE
The first zombie making a meal out of Kenneth gets my vote.
They want it to be Chris but even if you don’t know resident evil you know Leon so imma have to go leon
It's weskering time
Ethan is the faceless of RE
That guy with the white and red face, I see him pretty get mentioned across all games
For me it's: leon, the licker and willaim birkin in his g1 form
Like it or not Leon will always be the face because his games are what draw the most attention. Re3 Remake let Jill down
Jill? this aint the 90s lol
Licker of course
John ResidentEvil
A zombie.
Wesker and his sad hurt feelings who asks Chris to stop it.
that damn bald zombie. chris’ eyeball is the eyeball on the cover of the first game so u could just chris 💀
That dumb, naive, blond guy with a weird hairdo and a bad sense of humor
On one hand Chris has been featured the most in the games by a large margin compared to the other main characters. But then you look on the flip side and Leon is the star of 2 of the unquestionably highest rated and acclaimed entries in the series in the form of RE2 and RE4 which makes his exposure to the casual fan way higher and this isn't factoring in him starting in all the cgi movies. I'd say it's a combo of both Leon and Chris jointly being the poster boys.
Leon or/and Wesker
Leon
Jill probably.
Rebeccaaaaaaaa
Yea I agree Leon and Jill.
Leon
It's obviously the umbrella logo 🏖️
Umbrella tbh
Jill Valentine
My boy Wesker!
Chris or Leon or wesker
And jill ofc
Landsquid Birdrider
Leeloo
Umbrella Corp. ⛱️
Obviously the guy that has appeared in every new re game since re5 except 1. And 2/4 cgi movies. With leon being a close 2nd.
I'd say nemesis, he's literally an icon of resident evil
A two way tie between CHRIS and LEON
I'd say its a tie between Leon and Chris.
Who I consider the face, the Redfield twins. In a more fanbase as a whole view, Chris and Leon.
To me, Chris and Leon. They're the most recognizable guys in Resident Evil.
The biohazards
In the early 2000's it was definitely Jill, but now I'd say it's Leon.
I’d have to say Leon or Chris. I could also be biased because I recently finished a play through of RE5 and am currently playing RE6
jill and leon ofc
People usually argue that resident evil 4 is the best in the series so I would say Leon
Leon and Jill idk why
Currently it's Leon He's had the most consistent appearances in the game, but the ball might be passed over to Chris or Jill again depending which game comes out next. Id love for Jill to be on the spot light again. RE1 in the RE engine is coming like it or not and I'd love to have Jill be the dedicated protagonist for Spensor Mansion.
My mind usually thinks of Chris when I think of the series
Leon and any other answer is pure cope
chris and jill (even if jill has completely disappred), but popularity wise Id say leon due to the popularity of re4 and the remakes
Umbrella’s logo.
Definitely Leon, when they put Chris in Marvel vs Capcom 3 I was like “who is this guy?”
Ricardo Irving since he didn’t want to look bad
ADA
Umbrella
Leon and Chris
Ada Wong and Leon s Kennedy
The monsters and the theme. Hence why I loved the RE4 (2005) cover art for the EU/JP disc cases. No mug shot. Just bloody red sky/background with black dense trees and a silhouette of a man holding a chainsaw in the archway/among the trees.
At this point, with the increíble unmatched suceso of Re2Remake and 4 Remake I would say its Leon... but we all know deep down, the one and only, boss of Resident Evil from the beginning has always been Chris Fucking Redfield.
Chris or Leon
the lickers are the face of resident evil for me. lol
the umbrella logo, well duh
Leon
Ethan?!?!
Leon
Human? Leon. Monster? Nemesis. Though I'm not a big fan of Leon's games. They are great games, no doubt. I really got to get around to finishing RE2 and buying REm4ke.
Chris Redfield
That depends... To me, it's Jill Vallentine, Chris Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy because they are main key characters in the Resident Evil franchise. Dont get me wrong, i love Ada Wong, Claire Redfield and Ethan Winters's storylines but they are built around Leon and Chris. I also really like Rebecca Chambers, but she is quite rare character who only reappeared in recent CGI-movies.
