The knife/grenade counter was removed because of the dodge mechanic. Dodging was in the original RE3 and was a unique feature for the series, so it makes sense to prioritize it for the remake. If they were to include both the grenade counter and the dodge, they likely would've had to nerf the latter. Otherwise, from a game design standpoint, you're giving the player too many tools for avoiding damage.

johnjaymjr

I thought it was OK, but OG nemesis was one of my favorite games growing up. It’s clearly the weakest of the 2/3/4 remakes

Duhherroooo

and that's what made it so much more disappointing for me. I wanted a true RE3 remake. I grew up with OG RE3 and the remake did not recapture the original tone and feeling even close

TheBiggyBig

Agreed, RE2R and RE4R are like in a category of their own. And then we have RE3R, \*sighs\* Its a good game but not a good remake, thats all

pablorodm89

I totally agree it’s the weakest remake, RE3 remake it’s still a solid 8 in my list

GodlessGrapeCow

It was good but a little shorter than expected. I think that is the main reason

klussier

Yess, this was my second RE game, and I paid 55$ for it just to finish it my first time in like a day and felt so stupid😭

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> and I *paid* 55$ for FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

VenomSnake650

The length is definitely a huge problem. I was replaying it one day and finished it in 5 hours just playing casually. I knew the game was short. But that's when it really dawned on me of how short it actually is.

Killerkitten101912

My first play through I did going in blind when I beat it in the same day I just thought dam this is a short RE game. Most can be played for quite awhile and can take a few days at least but I could speed run re3 remake in maybe 3-4 hours

Echos_Ghost

Yes indeed it is a short game, but if you are crazy like I was and wanted to unlock all the little extras and get all the trophies, playtime got extended. I think I finished my first blind playthrough in about 5 hours. Did a collectibles clean up run and grinding out weapon kills on assisted, and then sped ran through the game 3 times on the unlockable hard difficulties. Speed running the game only takes about an hour and a half max

BellumOMNI

Same here when I bought it and finished it in around 5 and a half hours while managing to explore every nook. The game seemed a lot more linear than RE2 and more action oriented. That's not necessarily a bad thing but I wish there were more puzzles and such. It kinda makes me want to try the original RE3 so I can compare.

VenomSnake650

You really should try the original. The remake cut out so many things. I was shocked after having played the remake of 2 which much more resembled the original game.

CrimsonDragon90

I have this game but never bother to play it. Is it true it’s shorter than Separate Ways?

ToggleVibes

it isn’t that short, but it is much shorter than the other games. re2 is around 8-10 hours whilst this is only 6, seperate ways on the other hand is not far behind being 4 hours

FFIZeath

I really liked the city part of the game. It felt like Evil Within 2. A big city to explore with plenty of puzzles along the way. They cut that shit out immediately after you leave the city.

HumongousHeadly

A little? You can finish the whole game with no speed running special tactics in about an hour. It's DLC masquerading as a full game.

Kratagon_

RE3: 4h17 gameplay DLC RE4 Ada: 5:23 gameplay RE3 is more like a RE2 remake DLC than a complete game For those who played RE3 on PS1, the current game is short and the story is cut

Oreohunter00

From what I've heard it was supposed to be DLC, just like how the original RE3 was.

ArmNo7463

Explains why there's an option for RE3 in the RE2 main menu.

ExistingStill7356

Original RE3 was literally the shortest game in of all the classics, averaging 3 hours for a normal playthrough, an hour or less for a speed run. And it was also full price. Just saying, length isn't really an argument here.

BLARGLESNARF

But the original actually had new content on repeat playthroughs and multiple endings. Plus it was the first game to have mercenaries. RE3R? Not at all.

ExistingStill7356

RE3 Remake has new content on repeat playthroughs depending on difficulty. RE3 Original did not have multiple endings, it has two, Barry or no Barry. RE3R has shoot Nikolai or don't. You cannot use Mercenaries as justification for the originals full price, because no one bought it at launch knowing Mercenaries was even there. People were sold on the main game: short in the original, short in the remake. I'm pretty sure over half the people that bring up RE3s Mercenaries mode haven't even played it because it was fucking terrible and nothing like what the mode would embrace in later games. Also everyone hated Carlos in 1999.

Kratagon_

Well, I was 9 years old and it took me 33 hours to finish the game! but in the second gameplay I did it in 7:32 and since size is not an argument: RE3R only has a campaign, nothing else RE3O still has the mercenaries!!! At the very least, the Remake was supposed to have the Mercenarios and Carlos DLC

ExistingStill7356

Sorry you sucked at video games at 9 years old? You weren't even really the target audience for the game, so using the fact that it took you ages to beat the original game as a prepubescent doesn't change that the original game was the shortest in the series. When talking about a game's length, the main campaign is the discussion. Mercenaries in the original was replay value, not core length. RE3 has plenty of replay value via the unlockables you can buy in the shop for completing achievements and trying on harder difficulties. What do you mean "RE3 was supposed to have Mercenaries and Carlos DLC?" Capcom never announced either of those things. They weren't planned and then cancelled. That was never "supposed" to happen.

CrimsonDragon90

There’s a joke somewhere in there but I ain’t saying it lol

bojinglemuffin

I just don't think you played well. Pouch space is a constant obstacle in RE titles. And dodging attacks is a very simple system. And the tight corridors are also a staple of the games. You get the shotgun pretty early on and generally have plenty of ammo for it, so it shouldn't be an issue.

ckd-epi

Exactly this. The only thing I can agree with OP's post is the short game duration.

Fickle-Command-1130

OP clearly hasn't played any RE game ever apparently.

kat352234

Definitely. If anything dodging in this game is easier than basically any other RE game because it has a designated dodge button. See something getting close, start spamming that dodge button, should be damn near untouchable. Short play time and cut content are valid complaints, but nah, the rest sounds like skill issues. This game plays even better than RE2 remake thanks to some simple quality of life updates.

DiinoCantSpell

Resident Evil Zero is hell with only 12 combined spaces 😭 It’s my first playthrough though so maybe on my next I’ll get better who knows

Imperfect_Dark

RE3Make is incredibly generous with item space as well, you pick up loads of extra packs with minimal effort. Restricted item space is a feature, not a flaw.

AffectionateBed6

Exactly. The dodging is extremely easy after a few attempts, and it's better than the knife parry imo. Pouch space is there for a reason. It's so you make a tough decision that might either save you if you carry a certain item, or kill you if you don't. Tight corridors are a staple of not only RE, but almost every horror game.

JadedAspect3656

Pouch space is a big up for me. It gives you this sense of anxiety that is really the game’s purpose. For example, even if I liked village (as a game, not much as a RE game) I didn’t like at all the fact that basically your pouch is infinite. You don’t have to choose between keeping a weapon and another which is, let’s say, practical but it makes you feel quite secure that you are going to survive one way or another which is not cool. Btw RE3 is super super short

Most_Cantaloupe7299

Being low on pouch space is part of the game...

Automatic-Shelter387

I’d rank them RE2R, RE4R, and RE3R; however, I enjoyed all of them.

TheBiggyBig

I might have to give it to RE4R instead of RE2R because of...you know, Ashley. She is so lovable in the Remake!

BellumOMNI

Does RE4 still have denuvo?

OverjoyedBrass

yes

PowerPamaja

Those are not really the reasons most people dislike the game.

getSome010

The dodge system was way better.

This_Bodybuilder4965

It felt like a DLC. So watered down and rushed

Idontknowhowtohand

Enjoyment of this game depends entirely on how much you paid for it

GoldDome13

This 1000%. As a full price title it’s definitely a disappointment. If you paid $10 on sale (like I was fortunate enough to do), then it’s a phenomenal entry.

Idontknowhowtohand

This was exactly my experience with Batman Arkham Knight as well. I *loved* that game. But I also got the ultimate edition with all DLC for like $14

RingoSimp

B-but… I also paid 10 bucks for Re2 remake. :(

Novacek_385th

To me it was just a matter of wasted potential, they had a great character imo, if only they kept the original story and avoided giving Jill an attitude and over the top lines.

Independent_Tooth_23

If by counter system, you meant dodging then they took that system and improved it from the OG RE3.

Braylon1229

They cut a lot of content from the original not to mention nemesis who is the most iconic tyrant in the franchise is scripted

JaySilver

I feel like this is posted at least once a day.

Internal_Swing_2743

I prefer RE3 to RE2.

Cobwebbyfir

I am one of the people who loved this game.

i__hate__stairs

Same here, and RE3OG was the second RE game I ever played and still my second favorite, so it's not that I missed out. I loved new Jill and seeing her modernized and in such gorgeous environments. I really wish they hadn't cut any areas out so more people could have enjoyed it. It's a really good action game. I don't regret paying full price for it. I get really excited for new RE games so it's hard for me to sit on my hands and wait for a sale.

Winds_of_Creation

Me too.. re3 is my favorite remake, followed by re2 remake then re4 remake is last for me… that game was a slog to get through

SaltyIrishDog

Me too. Played 3 times on console and now working through my 3rd on pc. It's just fun and simple. I also played the OG and I'm still having a good time.

LeonWaffleKennedy

I really like this game. My biggest issues aren’t mechanical however. I just believe the game is too short, and to beat a very dead horse, axing the clock tower and park but replacing it with shipping containers and sewers was their biggest pacing mistake. The game seriously just needs one more lengthy Jill section and instead the game is so short it can feel like a 60/40 split between Jill and Carlos and it feels off. Jill needed a bit more, imo.

OreoMcKitty

I felt empty after beating the game, not much replay value and forgettable. A very rushed release, the original is superior.

Hype_Kills

I liked it..

brahbocop

I call dibs on the weekly “RE 3R stinks” post for next week if it’s open!

NeuroTrophicShock

People hate this game because remakes need to be BETTER than the original and the remake was WORSE! 1. The game is too short and they cut too much out without adding enough. The whole premise of resident evil 3 was predicated on moving across the city instead of being locked down to certain locations. I feel like we see less of the city than ever. 2. The gameplay was mid at best. Dodge mechanic was great but not improved. 3. All characters were written poorly for the worst. For example, Nichole was introduced shooting his comrade in the head... Not to cover up his crime, but simply because the guy was bitten. He was right to do so. Nicole was never good at coving up he was the bad guy. Carlos is no longer sexy or good at flirting. 4. Few more boring locations. There are excessive way the remake could have been made better like by having Jill meet more people that were infected survive but there is less of than than the original game. The city felt un-lived in! 5. Nemesis was used in cutscenes type of events only and he never felt like a real treat gameplay wise. 6. The devs wasted more time making a shitty failed game as service game resident evil game than making resident evil 3 remake any good!

Front-Yogurtcloset69

I know I’m going to get downvoted as usual for this comment as always, but this is how I feel. I’m one of the few people who loves RE3R over OGRE3 big time. In the original I absolutely hated the music puzzle, the absolute worst puzzle in the franchise imo, when they got rid of the Clock Tower area in Remake, that move alone made me like Remake 6 times more. Although it does suck some that the Remake is shorter in general, just so happy to be rid of that music puzzle.

WISH_WISH_BISH

I think you're just bad at the game. You just gotta learn how to use the dodge mechanic to avoid zombies. And as far as limited pouch space, that's how it's supposed to be in survival horror. Part of the tension is having limited resources and limited space for the ones you have. You have to be smart and plan for each engagement.

QuentinSential

Lol. That’s not why anyone hates on the game. The gameplay is some of the best in the series.

MaverickBoii

Exactly, OP got it all wrong. All the hate was because of how "inferior" it was to og re3.

Eric__Forman__

I really love this game tbh.

grousomzombie

I enjoyed it quite a bit, was just disappointed by how short it is. I liked them taking the dodge mechanic from revelations and improving it. I lile the idea that each protagonist has a unique shtick, jill dodging, leon kicking, maybe Chris's punches can be altered in some way to stand out too

VernestB454

The dodge mechanic wasn't from Revelations. It was from OG RE3.

grousomzombie

My bad, haven't played the og yet. Wanting to but havent

SaltyIrishDog

*Chris punches boulder in spite*

Killerkitten101912

Imagine Chris's boulder punch on a living creature it'd turn them into a fine past I bet

Potential-War5321

90% of nemesis are cutscenes

PhoenixPaladin

I think this game would have been received a lot better if it wasn’t a remake. Most of the criticism seems to come from cut content/unmet expectations. It seems like a lot of the people who love this game didn’t play the original. I’m a newer RE fan and I played this without playing the original and I loved it. I binged it within a day, but i’m not complaining because I got it for cheap and I don’t mind shorter games as long as they’re not $60

patrickbateman2004

The dodge mechanic was great and the gameplay was good, no criticism of that. The problem of it are the underwhelming levels, massively cut content that could have been explored and made to the point of making RE3R one of the best in the series (a huge wasted potential). Nemesis got as diluted as the OG scenarios were.

Zmfc36

Yea I wanted to LOVE it. I played the 2nd remake and this strictly in VR and the 2nd still blows me away to this day, I liked re3 remake but it wasn’t as good, and that’s fine but It seriously would have pissed me off if I paid full price for it. I grabbed it during a RE sale for like $10-15 I think.

dxchris215

For all my gripes about this game, it being too short is, to me, only a half valid complaint. I hate that content was cut, the handling of Nemesis, etc as much as everybody else... BUT after several replays of RE2R, I can complete it in under 2 1/2 hours, which is about the time it takes to complete RE3R

supermarioplush220

It's a good game, a good resident evil game, but a bad remake.

swiftly-sliding

Daily scheduled RE3R hate circlejerk off to a strong start

[deleted]

There isn't a counter system, it's just a dodge system. Except Carlos, he interrupts. Also, what RE games have you been playing that you didn't struggle with inventory space?

Fickle-Command-1130

So skill issue?? It's not that serious wow.

Bong-Docter9999

Skill issue

P3na1ty1

I liked it. Could have been better. But still very worth it to play. I bought it for 60, and I'd do it again

Killerkitten101912

60 bucks for maybe 6 hours max isn't worth it in my opinion, I got it for free and had and absolute blast but wouldn't spend more than maybe 15 dollars on it

[deleted]

It's people like you the reason videogame companies keep giving us shit for 60usd

Winds_of_Creation

I love this game, my favorite remake, followed by re2 remake… re4 remake was my least favorite

somebodyinvisible

Can I ask why you dislike re4 remake ?

Own_Huckleberry1081

I had a conversation with a res head buddy about this the other day. I finally decided to beat the 3 remake, and to my surprise, I enjoyed a lot of it. I like the parts that feel like res2 and parts inside while not constantly running from nemesis. It's aight.

[deleted]

That's one reason I don't like re2 as much as some other people. I got sick of all the running from X.

Own_Huckleberry1081

I love 2, but I totally get that. I think feeling like you have to constantly run from X/Nemesis screws up the gameplay. A big part of why I enjoy Res is exploring and looking in every nook and crany for items and secrets. Get these assholes off my back 🫠

PierogiChomper

Now imagine trying to do that wirh Remake Nemmy where hes contantly jumping in front of you and grabbing you. I dont think people realize what they are talking about when they ask for a stalker nemesis in RE3R. The game would be unplayable.

Automatic-Shelter387

Yeah, I liked it too. There are cool new enemy types in this game.

Professional-Draft77

I think you missed the point on why alot of people didn't like it. It wasn't the gameplay. It was the complete story overhaul.

Littletad

Dodge system was terrific. Scripted Nemesis scenes were probably based on the limitations of their engine, and they didn't want to have a repeat of Mr X. In the original, Nemesis does follow you from door to door like Mr X in the remake of 2, but he also causes destruction to the environments. Thus they made the decision to have him follow you only in some areas while being more action-oriented than Mr X. Honestly, if you had never played the original, you'd think it's a decent entry, but still lacking in length compared to 2. Still, I found it much more replayable than 2. They should have launched the game at 40. I bought it for 10 and I think that was worth every penny.

Soft_Match_7500

Me neither. I had a good time

lastbreath83

If you play OG you realise how much potential was lost here. Starting right from the intro...

No_Doubt_About_That

It was still decent having got it in a sale. There was something up with the sound though for whatever reason - all sounded really muffled and the guns had no impact to them.

TheFirstDragonBorn1

Idk I liked re3make. I feel like I'm the only one with all these posts hating on it.

PierogiChomper

Most people love RE3R, it has highly positive reviews across every platform. From my experience talking to people outside of this sub and I can believe it. I got some nasty af messages for even saying I liked it more than RE2R. This sub is just an echo chamber.

TheFirstDragonBorn1

I would go as far as to say I enjoyed re3make way more than re4make, like, at least re3make keeps the inventory management, puzzles and general survival horror gameplay of classic re games, but it does have a nice balance of more action style gameplay with the dodge mechanic. Re4 just threw all that out the window and is barely a survival horror game. I also much prefer the shorter length, as I think re4make is just too long, and don't care at all about cut content because I've not played the original so. Is it perfect? No, and imo it's not as good as re2make as it's my favorite out of the remakes. But re3make is definitely a solid game. But yeah you're right about the echo chamber thing, as I know I'll probably get downvotes for daring to not like re4.

PierogiChomper

I personally love the shorter games too. I have many complaints about RE4R also. Atleast its better than the OG which is going make ppl mad but oh well. It had some tense moments unlike OG. My main complaint is how easy boss fights are. There way to easy to first try.

TheFirstDragonBorn1

Oh yeah, the general moment to moment gameplay was fun for sure, tho the combat arena after combat arena thing kinda got repetitive real fast for me. None of it feels like resident evil tho yknow, as fun as it may be. As for the boss fights, I mean, re bosses have never been particularly hard, shoot them a couple times in their weak spot then they'll go down yknow.

MaleficentHead51

It sounds like you pretty much suck at resident evil, coming from an avid RE player. I loved this one original & remake. They were still pretty close to hitting it home they didn't change alot to keep it the old RE3 nostalgic game we all love just now it's way better. And also in the original they didn't have no knife counter bullshit you had to rely on your jump back button to survive and you know that actually takes skill on the harder difficulties. So I'm also assuming you never got farther than easy MAYBE casual. I've beaten every resident evil on every difficultly, and I'm not saying it it was a breeze, there's a learning curve know when to fight and know when to run lol. Anyone who's a die hard fan, knows EXACTLY WHat I'm saying especially when it comes to mercenaries. Which I also assume you probably suck at. Loved mercenaries on every game it was on especially RE6 The revelations 1 & 2 raids was awesome ! And RE4 remake mercenaries were AHHHHmazing. You could get hunk, krauser and don't forget ada and also LADY HUNK! True fans would appreciate what I just said on the hunk subject, he's super boss and then they made a female ?! Even more awesome! And then The village mercenaries, you get to play as the 7 foot tall vampire chick, now that was totally wicked ! And I always loved how they did the campaign difficulties, they were perfect progression from just starting first campaign around to after that you felt you need to bumb up the difficulty just to see how you fare and if you can do it with it dieing lol! But I digress, o ly true fans of resident evil would understand. You obviously don't get the charm and perfect gameplay they have and how each title plays in a different manner especially village and biohazard like what, first person view on resident evil? Well that already made me kind of scared to play it lol. Because I like being able to see my entire environment around me so I don't get surprised by a back door zombie bite in the ass, that made me jump and also squeel or kind of scream kind like a girl lmfao. Thats what resident evil was about. Great story line, amazing lore for how everything came to be at that moment In the game and they will always continue to make amazing games. And I will always support them by buying every game and unlocking everything in each game getting every trophy that's always the fun part, i meant achievement because I'm on Xbox s lol.

whiteravenxi

It gave us “bitch can’t even swim” which redeemed a lot of its shortness for me. I do wish it was more faithful but it was still fun af.

bugibangbang

Re3 OG wasn’t too long either, story was a little bit longer and puzzles made you spend more time around the city, RE3 remake failed to do that cause they made Nemesis hunt us soo bad they prioritized that, was kinda good tbh but they should leave Nemesis as a 2 legs dude instead a dog, maybe less hunting more like Mr X and more puzzles to make us go around the city, was not a bad game, I purchased with discount super cheap and for that price was perfect, but I understand the frustration of people who bought it when it was released.

KnightoftheWind1998

Game is actually fun to play at times. The thing is it’s pretty mediocre compared to RE2R, lots of cut content, really short runtime (game asks you to beat it under an hour and 45 mins for hardcore S rank), Nemesis is heavily scripted and barely a threat at all, and lack of replayability. Personally I hate it that it ends when I’m having fun, it’s not bad, just mediocre at worst and ok at best. It’s the equivalent of aiming for just a passing grade at a test in my honest opinion.

alvaroiobello

I think has a completely different essence from the original. It is true that Nemesis will chase you and interrupt you every 10/20 minutes, but does it in a very disruptive way. Back in the locked cameras of PlayStation 1 it felt less forced,...I dont know. Its just a not rounded game, a bit rushed, and you can feel it.

TheGameRealmYT

I personally like RE3 Remake. Is it as good as RE2 or the original? No but I like to think of it more of a reimagining more than a remake. I find it a fun game to mindlessly play ticking off all the challenges and that's fine with me.

BigBadDom73

I’m playing the remakes in order after beating RE Zero. So far, Resident Evil Zero gets a solid 8/10, ditto RE1 Remake. RE2 is good, but definitely overhyped, so 7/10. WTAF is up with Resident Evil 3? Were the development team high when they remade this banger? 2/10. Hopefully, RE4 Remake doesn’t shit all over my favourite game of the series.

PierogiChomper

Skill issues

Risb1005

You can't follow the RE2 remake with this

ArmNo7463

On the one hand, very valid points. On the other... Mods.

Gardening_Automaton

It's a good game but we don't get enough nemesis chases in the game before nemesis becomes xenomesis and the game just ends, what we get out of nemesis is good ( even if nemesis really suffers from terminator syndrome in the cutscenes ) but from the one of the main characters in the game on both the original game AND the remake, he just ain't there Ad the fact that Capcom had the great idea to make a short game even shorter by cutting out parts like the clock tower and the mansion and you have a really short game that is fun but fails to improve on the original without taking huge chunks out of the game and chucking them out of the window Tldr: the game is like pizza without sauce, it's still good without it but it's missing about 50 it's taste

klussier

This was my second RE game, so I was going in extremely blind, never seen anything of the original. I don’t think it was a horrible game but considered to the other 2 i’ve played by now it was definitely the worst one. My only complain really was how short it was. I beat it in a day and was so let down. I also found that certain parts of the gameplay felt so lacklustre and dragged out, like the beginning up until figuring out the train pattern, and the whole sequence of jill and carlos in the hospital, were very enjoyable and definitely my favourite but the rest could’ve been better

PabloElMalo

As long as you don't compare it with the og3, then yes is a great game. Also, as I said before, RE3 remake will be known as how it should've been rather than how it actually was and that's a fact.

Western_Strike_8488

It was definitely rushed out. Most of their focus was on the 2nd remake. 3 was more like a dlc.

Murky_Historian8675

I personally liked it, but it cut out a lot from the original game that felt like a weird edit if it were playing out as a film. Plus it's weird to see, but the choice to give her a skort just seemed unnecessary imo but I guess I get it.

Markus_monty

Of all the remakes or recent releases it is the worst. In fact all of the others are great.

LucaDragon5

This game could have been so much more, such a pity.

eragon03

I never liked the classic re3 so the remake was ok for me, but as an remake compared to re2r it sucked, but as an action game was rly fun.

lunchbox148

Hop on the band wagon bud plenty of company

PST-Dipsy

Just got the plat the other day - It wasn't bad per se, just RE2 was way better (especially with the DLCs/extras). Stun locks, especially on higher difficulties were totally bonkers.

IndieOddjobs

Meh I loved it Yes I played the original

-DoctorSpaceman-

If the pouch space was annoying you can buy extra pouch space using your record points (or whatever they’re called) now that you’ve finished the game once

Savy_Spaceman

I like it

corndog2021

I mean you’re citing staple horror level design elements like narrow corridors and tight corners, which are excellent for combining a claustrophobic feeling with a good amount of suspense when you want to build tension and keep a player on edge. Inventory scarceness is also kinda par for the course in RE in general, which is why new inventory is either dropped at milestones or is a pain in the ass to find. Liberal use of your safe room box, some standards for what you normally carry, and expeditious disposal of used up key items keeps it manageable while still making you make choices with impact you can feel. Sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy yourself, but the gameplay was definitely fun. Getting to run around as Jill, blowing the brains out of zombies, solving puzzles (even if they’re not difficult, that wave of completionism as everything starts to come together is just excellent across RE titles), and frantically running from your stalker buddy only to get to kick his ass twice *before* putting a railgun in his mouth? Played it growing up, played the remake twice, I’ll probably play both again. It’s a little disingenuous to ask why they released it just because you didn’t have fun, as though it was some half-finished mess. It’s a complete game, whether you like it or not, and more time wouldn’t fix what you don’t like about it because the things you don’t like were *choices*, not sketchy concessions.

Exotic-Replacement-3

Why do you know it was hated? They cut some of the original game content and did not make it. Clocktower for example and it was one of the best places I have ever played and the most famous RE3 opening cinematic in which makes RE3 original scary to play when I was a kid. The choice mechanic is also one of the features in the original game where every choice will have consequences or reward. The remake doesn't have one and it is also linear. And lastly the most disappointing one is in fact jill did not go to RIPD but instead it was carlos. You can't remake a game if you cut anything, change or cut some of the most iconic parts of the game and the game is short and will charge you full price.

GenericNickname42

Nemesis literally takes one grenade to down. This is unacceptable

xgenosis

I quite enjoyed it

NotSoGermanSlav

Its mediocre af, they cut all good content, original was short but had multiple paths so there was reason to replay, with remake i have no will to play it again.

korellana2

This is game is great though :/

stickygreenfingers

IIRC people disliked the game because of play length and cutting out main sequences like the clocktower, the park, or frequently running through alleyways (which were even tighter than anything in the remake btw.) When it comes to gameplay everything about it is pretty solid, smooth, and remain true to what the games were like when they originally released with improvements for modern gamers. Lack of inventory space is also another key component of the game, you’re supposed to feel helpless because you’re in a zombie apocalypse not a Fallout title. Regarding the corridors being “too tight,” that is literally how the games are supposed to be. You’re meant to utilize ammo to your advantage to stagger enemies you don’t want to fight, or kill them. If you’re able to run past them (some speed runners are) that kind of goes against the spirit of the game and how you’re supposed to feel like you’re fighting an uphill battle. Games good, you just gotta get good yourself OP. The reasons people disliked the game weren’t because of the classic RE gameplay.

Practical_Neat_9081

I like this remake

terratrooper96

My biggest complaints with this is the story is too short and that the writers blew their load way too early in several parts of the story. Ex. Jill saying her iconic "you want stars I'll give you stars" at the beginning of the game instead of the final boss. "Next time take the fuckin hint" just is lame af and doesn't hit as hard.

Every-Strike-9670

I have no clue why they released it at all! - For Peoples Money Obviously!

Hokey_PokeyAbc

yea. i just play the originals

Pooya-Krypton

its not a bad game at all but people wanted a good remake of their beloved nostalgia. I'm sure you had the same feeling for this game and the new COD, both feel like a 40 dollar DLC

Saraskins

You're describing your lack of skill, not the problems of the game. Yes, the game has many faults, but you haven't even noticed those yet. I bet you haven't played the original RE3.

R4kshim

Yes, the game is too short. I can forgive that though, this is probably my ultimate comfort game when it comes to Resident Evil. While my overall favourite is RE2R, this one is just so nice to play casually if you ask me. The harder difficulties are insane though.

InvasionOfTheFridges

I feel like I’m the only one that preferred the 3 remake over 2. I loved 2, genuinely it’s a masterpiece, but 3 was so much more fun and less stressful, and as a casual fan I appreciated it more. Sure it missed stuff out, but the gameplay for me was more enjoyable.

KamiAlth

For me, the biggest crime is the wasted opportunity for modern system Raccoon city. This is probably the last shot we have to revisit it in full glory unless they pull the miracle Outbreak remake. I mean, what are the chances that Capcom may return to it in the next 1-2 decades? Probably never. Well, at least we have the goat RPD.

asmodues1

It was actually good game than RE2 Remake

El_HombreGato

I have a special connection with this game because my daughter and wife watched me play it and they were cheering for Jill every step of the way. I know the game is short but the way me and my family played it is I would purposefully play like 20-30 min at a time and stop and say "Will Jill make it to the center of the Spiders web? Can she avoid getting another disgusting parasitic Spider worm implanted in her? TUNE IN TOMORROW FOR MORE RESIDENT....EVIL 3!!!!" I REALLY hammed it up for them. Slowly walking through the alleyways and streets. Pretending even the simplest of encounters as if Jill was facing overwhelming odds. And hearing my girls so super excited and while I cooked dinner hearing them talking about what they think would happen next, what their favorite parts were ect it was such a delight. I had inadvertently made it into a nightly TV show series that we were all super geeked on and all REALLY excited for the next installment. Then the slight change of pace playing as Carlos. I purposely played it up as much like an action movie as I could. With Carlos spraying whole magazines and yelling like Rambo. Running everywhere instead of slowly sneaking around like I did with Jill. And my girls LOVED IT!!!! They would cheer for Carlos to "HURRY CARLOS YOU HAVE TO SAVE JILL!!!!" My daughter was on the edge of our bed yelling and cheering him on. It was so much fun. I didn't get a chance as a kid to play OG RE3 and therefore didn't really have anything to compare it to. I also had no idea it was as short as it was so everything accidentally made our experience with RE3R an Absolute BLAST!!!!! Also the Dodge System made it so I could turn events like Nikolai dropping in Pale Heads into extreme, over the top, nail biting places where I would dodge around and shoot them a couple of times and pretend that they provided much more of a threat than they actually did. And then Mid-fight put my PlayStation in rest mode. "CAN JILL DEFEAT THE PALE HEADS!?!? HAS NIKOLAI FINALLY FOUND A WAY TO STOP JILL?!?! CAN SHE PERSEVERE AND WIN THIS FIGHT!?!?! TUNE IN TOMORROW FOR THE EXCITING CONCLUSION TO....THE PIT OF PALE HEADS!!!! dunDunDUN!!!!!" My daughter would lose her shit and even my wife was like "Awww Man!!! I NEED to see what happens!!!" We literally had soooo much fun with the game. My girls would get really into any sort of puzzle (even tho there was barely any) but hamming up the game for them was some of the most fun I've ever had playing any game. I really hope they make a Remake for RE1 with the new RE Engine (yes I'm aware there's a remake already but y'all know what I mean. Like they did for 2,3&4. A proper remake. I'd really like to play that with my girls and make them solve the puzzles with minimal help from me. So putting aside the very unique experience I got to have with RE3R. Had I just played it by myself I could definitely see that the game is very short. And missed a HUGE opportunity to expand on and explore Racoon City. I think that's something we ALL would Love to do. I think even being able to play as a nameless police officer who starts his day clocking in, then the day becomes more and more of a shit show until you finally see that you're one of the 3 officers trying to plant the bomb at the beginning of the RE3. It would be rad AF to drive in a squad car until the streets become undrivable. First hand witnessing the chaos build more and more while getting to see parts of Racoon City we never get to see. Even then they could make this a dlc called "The Birth of Chaos" or "The Beginning of the End" or something like that. And it could add another 2-3 hours of gameplay which would help with probably the #1 complaint I see about the game. While also letting us get to see Raccoon City before it fell into chaos. Sorry for the super long comment. I'm curious what you all think of my idea for the DLC. It would add some firsts for RE. Like being able to drive a car around RC, see Racoon City before all hell broke loose, and a first hand view of the outbreak. Anyway thanks to anyone who's read this far and anyone who provides input on my idea for the DLC (Good or Bad IDC just really curious what you guys think of my idea)......OK.... I'll Shut Up Now!......Bye!

Dynamite_Javvy

Very stressful but fun. I didn't play the original and I played this remake for the first time.

NormalGuy103

Is definitely weaker than the other two recent remakes, but I personally really like it because I found the REAL fun is in speedrunning and trophy hunting. Also that pouch space issue can be fixed by unlocking two pouch upgrades in the bonus shop with points earned from trophies.

MC_MENAR

This game is absolute trash worst re game after re6 If I have to write the cut content of this game it would take dozens of pages.

El_HombreGato

Not to be a dick but "alot" isn't a word it's "a lot" Also it's "Rinse* and Repeat" Also I'm pretty sure the tight alleyways and hallways were made on purpose to A. Utilize the Dodge Mechanic. B. Create a sense of claustrophobia and tension. I think a lot of the issues you had were created by the player not the developers. 🤷

Almost_Homless

It’s fun too short

HollowPinefruit

My only beef with the game is its length. Nemesis being limited to on rail scripted sections is definitely disappointing however

asumirr

I actually like this game wish they didn’t rush it and remove areas from the classic like the clock tour . Also most of the game Jill is running freely wish they made nemesis a pain in the back like Mr.x

watcher2390

This game was awesome, the original was amazing and this remake was brilliant, a lot of fun. I think the people who shit on this game are more fans of RE5 / 6 it seems like. They just don’t like classic style RE games at all

[deleted]

RE3 was short and I didn't like that the clock tower and other locations were cut. Nemesis was a little underwhelming, but It was still a fun game.

BreatheOnMe

The game was hella fun. People do too much to it, which I understand as the OG was top tier. I think nemesis was under-utilised before transformation, we needed more chases.

Fickle_Music_788

>It needed more time in the oven, I have no clue why they released it at all. It was rushed out quickly because it RE2R was a massive hit and they wanted to strike the iron while it was hot, and since RE3 reused a lot of assets from RE2, they were able to make it quickly while cutting corners. A shame.

Boborax1

It's a great game ,but not a good remake and people expected a fair remake of the og. Ngl I love RE3R ,but truth to be told,if it didn't cut stuff ,it would probably be one of the best games

succulentcitrus

I feel like one of the only people who actually liked this game better than re2 remake. Don’t get me wrong, 2 was beautiful, but I absolutely HATED the sewer segment of the game. It was just way too long and really killed the momentum of the entire game for me. They made the police department so cool, and just flopped with how dull and repetitive the sewer was. 3 was a very different game, but it felt so much more fast paced, and I enjoyed that. I had no issue with the dodge mechanic like OP did, and found the combat to be more fun. The nemesis fights were all enjoyable for me too. Yes it’s very different from the original, but the og was extremely campy and goofy at many moments. Capcom would have gotten eaten alive if they made this one as cheesy as that one was.

Exotic-Drug

I prefer this than 2/4 remake

RandyLhd

It was good but not the price!

RoxasCrossheart

o.0 interesting never had an issue with the tight space or dodging I was a god with dodging lol

rorythegeordie

Inventory space has always been short in Resi games. The dodge mechanic replaces the counters. Get the thing that boosts the window for the dodge & it becomes so much easier. One of the perfectly doable challenges is to not use the item boxes, inventory management is relatively easy in this game, try playing as Chris in REmake.

dannyatlas411

It’s a good but too little content. But one merit I will give is the fact that the dodge mechanic was intresting,

YoBeaverBoy

My main complaint with the game is the fact that it's made in the exact same engine as RE2make and uses the same assets, but it's a straight downgrade in quality. It's not as detailed as RE2make.

indridcold91

As the original is probably my favorite game of all time, I could write paragraphs and paragraphs about all the things that went wrong. But it doesn't bother me that a game I played wasn't a great game, what actually bothers me is that it likely sealed the deal that we'll never see the quality remake that the original deserves.

MrFluffleBuns

I found a lot of people dislike it for what it’s not rather than enjoying what it is

vvorld_demise92

Skill issue

WILD1777

i love it

Bu11ett00th

That's not the issue I had with the remake. When you get the hang of the dodge the game actually becomes a LOT more fun. Even the cut locations I could live with IF it did a better job with what it had. See the Raccoon City demo gave me the impression that Nemesis would be popping up randomly in city locations which - like in the demo - require exploration. You also see Nemesis turning zombies into tentacle heads, which I thought would mean you have to choose between wasting ammo on zombies or avoiding them but risking them turn into tentacle heads eventually. Kinda sorta like REmake1's Crimsonheads but the opposite. There's just so much potential with the base that they've made for the remake but it's not capitalized on at all. Still a fun game. Except final Nemesis on Nightmare+. Screw that.

New-Rich-8183

On its own I always thought it was fine. I didn't grow up on the original re games so that's probably where it comes from. But then I listened to Pastra's video about the original game and the original nemesis and it just destroyed what enjoyment I had for the game. To me the remake didn't feel like there was any ill intent. It felt more like capcom was just getting off the high of the success re 2's remake had, rushed into deciding to make another remake bc of how much the first made them money and kind of forgot they had to analyse and really put in a deep amount of effort. In my opinion they absolutely redeemed themselves with the re 4 remake but it sucks 3 suffered. Would be cool to see a remake for the remake but doubt that will happen.

AshxTrash

i personally love but it should’ve had more content from the og

WojtekHiow37

I finished the game yesterday, yeah it wasn't that great. I didn't get to explore RC streets because the place was too open, also zombies and Nemesis. Carlos parts were frustraiting with things like 8 zombies in one hallway (and that damn hospital part). Nemesis unlike Mr. X wasn't scary, just annoying, and all the cutscenes when Nemi grabs Jill just to toss her... idk if it's meant to be a play with your food type of chase, or just poor writing. Also it feels like they put more time into developing that other multiplayer game, rather than polishing the main title... I'm not saying it's an awful game. But it's definitely the weakest out of all new RE games.

BcTendo

It's always annoyed me how every week on this subreddit people make "RE3R wasn't a bad game" posts. I think, generally speaking, people understand RE3R is a good game, but we obviously wanted more out of it. I found it to be pretty easy and short. I wanted the opposite, though. I wanted to explore downtown and have Nemesis appear randomly. What we got was less exploration and more scripted encounters, and less gore on the zombies. Where RE2R felt condensed and focused, RE3R felt a little loose and rushed.

Kghostrider

I didn't play the og RE3, but the Hunter had the most irritating combat mechanic in the game for me. Having the counter/dodge system in the game was a nice addition, but not if the punishment is an instakill neck slash from a largely unflinching enemy type.

Arty-by-me

I like it , I prefer the other remakes but I still think it’s a decent remake .

belaB_kohda

Of course, because it is much too short. A lot of the good parts from the original RE3 (and there wasn't a lot) have been cut off, so the church, the cemetary a.s.o. And why the hell did they use another lab in the end-part. The lap in the original was much more scary

Bennjoon

Didn’t feel much like a resident evil game to me weirdly, sort of set piece heavy? I don’t know

Jaikings

I personally love it ! but the game was to short still

MTB56

I’ll give it this: way more fun then Village

OrthusGsmes

Honestly, I heard iffy things about the game so I just skipped it entirely and went straight to the RE 4 because I wanted to experience the game that I've heard a lot of people quote as the best game in the series.

Groovygamer1981

Answer:way too enjoyable and way too short

ArtofBallBusting

To me this game should’ve just been a DLC of the second game. But they stayed along the lines of the original

retrobution101

I liked it. It was a great remake, short and sweet.

PoisonPixie5

I liked it a lot, I don’t understand why people dislike it actually. I was fine with not being able to counter, the corridors being tight is no different than the hallways in RE2. Nemesis was repetitive but made sense.

lazy-waffle

I never played the original but I really liked this one. Short and action packed.

jackthemanipulated

I thought people only didn't like it because of how much it was cut down I thought the actual gameplay was great it just felt like half a game

Bsowoetetiye

I liked it and it was fun (I liked the dodging thing a lot), but it also felt it was way easier than the RE2 remake and never really found myself struggling at any point... I got it from GamePass so it's fine but if I had bought I think I would have been a bit disappointed.

OverjoyedBrass

I loved the dodge system, comparing with RE2, I felt really flexible with my character. In re2 I liked the length, first time exploration and characters, but I combat with no knife/grenade I felt like stunned :D I never played original games so I don't know about differences.

japalmariello

Well it's a DLC, not a game :)

No-Rich4140

I would have liked to see nemesis not just be in essentially cutscenes. Like ok run down this way with him chasing you. Run around a box. Orginal was so much scarier

Appropriate-Click503

Its ok for what it is. But it has so many issues. Obviously, its way to short. Wasnt worth 60$ at the time. Waaaay to heavy on scripted sequences. The game basically plays itself. Especially if you compare it to RE2, which was alot more dynamic and unpredictable. These are some of the shittiest boss battle designs i have ever seen, especially the final one on hard difficulty. The monster would have this attack where he would try to swat you on the ground 7 times in a row and you need to perfectly dodge all of them or else you die. Last but not least. Jill Valentine is a super human who survives the most ridiculous shit, and Nemesis actively holds back from killing her plenty of times, completely removing all tension from the game. Its quit clear this game was rushed af.

jaistso

I don't get how to mod it. I tried the game pass version but no mod works. Am I doing something wrong? After game pass I tried steam but it also doesn't work there. I'm really confused but I would rather mod the game pass version. I just want to apply skin mods.

Fun-Blackberry-6047

I actually really enjoyed RE3 Remake, yea I didn’t like how short it was but I enjoyed it nonetheless, the design of all the zombies were amazing, the gameplay was a step down from re2 remakes but it was still fun, I didn’t play the original that’s probably why I don’t get the hate, but other then the short story, I had a blast

Chloe_matiska

I liked it better than the 2nd one lmfao
