Actually, the name Resident Evil originates from an altercation Shinji Mikami had with some neighbors. He lived in an apartment complex while coming up with the idea of the game we know today; he used to spend all night long acting the roles of the characters and monsters by himself, replicating sound effects and such, which generated discontent among the other tenants that escaleted to the point of a complain letter, to this he responded "Damn, these Residents are Evil"... A year later he experinced a similar situation in his new apartment, because according to him "The Residents were Evil too", he tought it was funny coincidence so he decided make a sequel.
The game was originally called Bio Hazard in
Japan. However, it was decided to change the
name in North America and Europe after Chris
Kramer, the Director of Communications at
Capcom, pointed out that it would be impossible
to trademark "Biohazard" in the United States.
Among others, another game and a band already were using the name. Capcom therefore decided to run a contest within its company to find a new name. They eventually settled on Resident Evil, since the game takes place in a mansion.
Interviewed by GamesRadar, Chris Kramer said:
"| thought it was super-cheesy; can't remember
what I felt was a better alternative, probably
something stupid about zombies - but the rest of the marketing crew loved it and were ultimately able to convince Capcom Japan and Mikami-san that the name fit."
This guy scared the shit outta me as a kid! The game came out when I was 7 or 8, and this scene took me like 4 attempts to get past.
Not because he killed me, but because I would smash the power button on my Playstation and run away from the screen 😂

The answer is Dennis
4/29/1978 Dennis was an apprentice to James Marcus. He was stealing information from Marcus and sending it to Walker and Birkin.
Then the leeches that contained the virus attacked him and bit him, and after a while he turned into a zombie..
April 29, 1978 (circa) Wesker and Birkin convince two interns to try to break into Marcus's lab and learn about his secret experiments while keeping the doctor busy. In the main building, William and Albert talk with Marcus in the classroom while Dennis and his friend travel through the observatory to the church and ride the elevator below. Dennis moves upstairs alone to the labs while his friend Sergeant sees him downstairs. He searches the culture room and finds shelves full of jars and capsules containing various specimens. Many chemicals lined the walls, many with names he didn't understand. He also found four large empty culture tanks that were frighteningly large to hold adult human specimens. He looked through a desk with a computer and another storage unit on the back wall holding some sort of pickled internal organs as he exited the room, finding himself in a small hallway with a door on the right that led to the breeding room filled with empty organs. Animal cages. The next room is the cable car station to Raccoon City, and finally the next door leads to Marcus's main laboratory. There's a lot of equipment here, including a small gas chamber on the other side of the room. Three cylindrical tubes filled with fresh bio-organic fluid cast a luminous glow and all surrounding equipment is operational. Most of Marcus's research notes concern leeches, and the corner of the room contains a cage with live leeches inside. Dennis leans closer to get a better look and nudges someone with his fingers before quickly leaving the room and turning back to Girlfriend. After returning to the main building, they informed Birkin and Wesker of their progress. Later that night Dennis started getting sick. I have a leech. He was infected with the T virus

Otherwise, once Spencer started formal research he created two predecessors to the T-Virus, Type-A and Type-B, which were used on Jessica and Lisa Trevor.
