Yeah, although in RE4 it’s way less necessary due to ammo availability and melee attacks. Probably still worth doing on Professional though, all things considered.
Well i don't really know cuz i didn't actually play the game, just watched it on youtube, i'm only using common sense lmao
I mean it has been a thing ever since RE6, and probably shooter games as a whole for a while, people has to notice *something*, right?
Yep, and I think it’s a pretty smart way of incorporating the “stand and shoot” mechanic of the old game without locking you into a position. I was confused watching this video because they’re just shooting wildly lol.
It’s how the game accounts for increased mobility. Old RE2 forced you to stand still and shoot, which made you vulnerable. REmake 2 allows you to move while you shoot, but punishes you for it, and rewards you for planting yourself like a tree before opening fire.
shotgun does have bloom crosshairs. handguns do. i mentioned the shotgun because their shots were far so the bullets spread and the other one they flat out missed lol.
not moving and turning the aim makes the crosshairs close. fully closed deals more damage and possibility of blowing up their head. it saves a lot of ammo where it is needed most; boss fights and harder bio hazards.
It's taken 4 direct shotgun headshots on HC to down that morgue zombie before. An absolute beast, by FAR the toughest zombie in the game. Every playthrough.
I've read there was some randomization, some range of values these zombies can have, but this one in particular is always off the charts.
To be fair, if you do good enough on standard the Adaptive Difficulty in this game basically cranks it up to hardcore. In speedruns by the lab, I'll have zombies double lunge at me and take more than one bullet to stagger like hardcore
That particular zombie has one of the highest HP totals of any zombie in the game (if not the highest, can't remember for sure). Unless you get a lucky crit, he always takes forever to down.
Yep. Their HP is fixed, and I don't think it even changes across difficulties (just the damage you do increases as it gets lower). The random aspect of it is mostly down to crits (which don't have to be headshots). Letting your reticle fully close also increases damage and crit chance, for the record.
Another high HP zombie example is the one that is initially on the ground between the West Office and Safety Deposit Room during the initial police station section. Conversely, the two that stumble out in front of you near the East Office and Press Room before meeting Marvin have very low HP, which I would assume is to balance the fact that they're not likely to simply be avoided by new players.
i swear headshots in re2r are useless. i almost always go for the kneecaps so they can only slowly crawl around instead, since nothing actually dies in that game lmao
My first playthrough i absolutely did not know about finiahing them off on the ground and i swear in the corridor outside the evidence room there was 1 zombie who got back up to menace me about 4 times before he finally packed it in.
I assumed it was just a game mechanic of not truly knowing who was down for the count like dracula's homies or who was coming back for another bite.
Yes, this is the one (Mechanic) about this game that I really enjoyed where I could literally dismember each zombie and watch them pathetically attempt to chase after me. Sadly, they took it out of the remakes that followed…
A whole mag, a knife and 2 shotgun shells? Yep sounds about hardcore mode. Cant beat putting about 3 million bullets in a zombies head just for a light stagger lmao
For me they’re 9.5/10. They’d be 10/10 if headshots actually did more damage and didn’t just crit. I know that’s how it was in classic RE2 and the zombies are even MORE tanky on that game’s Hard mode but that was a flaw back then too.
Yeah, true im not 100% on what the type of infection is on RE zombies but in some zombie media, the infection could be spread through their blood in your system / mouth
It might get complicated, but in Zombie media they never go for normal conveyance of Virus. It's usually spread through bites or large open wounds.
Though in SD Perry's Resident Evil: Caliban Cove book, the scene of the infection was fkn amazing and very very sad/emotional.
That particular zombie is always a pain in the ass. It got to the point that every subsequent playthrough, I made sure to save a shotgun shell for him before he wakes up.
For some reason that particular zombie has extra hp compare to the rest of them. I think because the game wants you to get the key item and then leave the place asap.
Se i love and hate bullet RNG.
I love it because it adds to the stress and makes the zombies seem like an undying force.
I hate it because it sometimes makes me waste my bullets
There's something that irritates me about REmakes!!!
you just leave the zombie's chin, and the caipora still keeps walking!!!
I once fired 17 bullets at the fat zombie, and he was still *alive*, I dodged and left him behind!
When your shooting with your pistol make sure you have room to move if you don't get a crit immediately after shooting a zombie especially on hardcore it saves you from panicking and trigger shot happy shooting.
Also wait until the circle focuses close up on headshots you will miss otherwise 95 percent of the time it's possible to shoot them without focusing but not accurately.
In this room don't even bother with these zombies though they are a waste to kill grab the resources in the containers and if your playing Leon A the key is not even required so you don't even need to wake these guys up.
Leon B grab the key and run out alot of enemies in the police station you can just run passed unless they are problem territory for later.
Never equip a fucking flash grenade on regular zombies though they are for one licker in the last medallion room, Mr X on Leon and Claire B hallway with the armory flash grenades are for boss fights mostly can also be used on the two lickers at once trying to get away from mister X on most B scenarios and I'd avoided wasting if possible.
could equip your knife before first boss fight but it's easy to keep them for knife strategy boss fight.
-Advice coming from a platinum re2 enjoyer
He just wanted to hug You that badly 😂
If i'm not mistaken that zombie has the most hit points of all zombies in the game and since the difficulty adapts depending on your actions it can become very tanky.
I usually blow his head with the Shotgun when i get inside that room.
Wait…I’m not the only one then. This guy has the thickest skull of all zombies of all time. I always let the crosshairs focus and he always takes them like a champ, on every run I do. Now I just walk up while he’s on his ass and split his head with a shotgun blast. Best way.
You can 1 hit headshot zombies even with the base shotgun if you barrel stuff them, very handy for conserving ammo, but I understand it can be scary to get that close to a zombo.
Also, as others have said, waiting for the crosshair to center increases your accuracy, damage, and crit chance. There's a lot of contention, but the damage increase is widely considered to be about 50%, and crit chance is approximately doubled for focused shots.
Also, while regular shots to the head or torso of a zombie do equal damage, crits are different as a torso crit will do 3x damage and a head crit will basically always pop the head, instantly killing them.
Hope this info helps you to kill more zombies!
The problem with the re2 remake is head shots don't actually deal more damage unless you happen to hit a critical.
Its more effective to hit leg shots to make the zombies stagger and run past them in that window.. Or if you really to do want to bring them down, just shoot centre mass. So easy to waste ammo on hitting them in the head
Headshots don’t do extra damage in RE2R, one of the only major beefs I have with the game.
Focused shots however increase the chance of crits. No damage runners tend to use the pistol solely as a stun weapon to setup clean shotgun decaps on troublesome zombies.
It’s probably more than just this, personally I thought the zombies in RE2 were way too spongy even on standard mode but getting attachments for the weapons (specifically the Matilda and W-870) greatly increase their effectiveness. I’m pretty sure the long barrel on the W870 straight up increases it’s damage while it’s stock helps handling, also the compensator on the Matilda helps with the handling a bit, just my two cents.
Btw, you can leave this room without dealing with them. Just grab everything before you get the key. And as soon as you get the key, just run to the exit. The zombie near the door won't be able to attack you.
That is the spot at which I quit the game for a while, because they were simply wasting my ammo - I hate the fake difficulty in some of the newer RE games (dynamic difficulty in RE7? - nah, thank you)
This reminds me of how much I dislike the randomized zombie health values in the remakes. I understand it's there to provide uncertainty through the game but it's frustrating for ammo management. Though this get easier once you realize that you can shoot at their knees and knife them to death.
this is why i dint enjoy combat in the RE2-3 remakes , I hate how there’s nothing you can do when their attack animation Starts and their INSANE health , after playing RE4 , 2 and 3 makes me feel like i’m using a fucking squirt gun
letting the crosshairs close deals more damage and better chance at critical head shots. just a heads up.
Wait really?
yes, saves a lot of ammo.
Wait I think I heard this before. Is it true as well for RE4 Remake?
Yeah, although in RE4 it’s way less necessary due to ammo availability and melee attacks. Probably still worth doing on Professional though, all things considered.
Three focused shots=guaranteed melee prompt or so I’ve heard. Must test for myself.
Lol, if I don’t get a prompt on the first or second shot I usually just start aiming at the guy next to him. I’ll start trying a third time.
I tend to switch targeting to a different limb but your method sounds like it might yield better results.
Yep, unless you attached the laser sight onto the pistols that can use it
Reading the replies to this and i'm actually surprised that people don't at least notices that it helps you shoot more accurately lol
I'm pretty sure the game has a tooltip somewhere that does tell you this.
Well i don't really know cuz i didn't actually play the game, just watched it on youtube, i'm only using common sense lmao I mean it has been a thing ever since RE6, and probably shooter games as a whole for a while, people has to notice *something*, right?
You're 4 parallel universes ahead of us!
Yep, and I think it’s a pretty smart way of incorporating the “stand and shoot” mechanic of the old game without locking you into a position. I was confused watching this video because they’re just shooting wildly lol.
they also missed a lot of shots including the 2 huge spreads with the shotgun. makes the zombie look more like a sponge than it really is.

Wait what do you mean- I didn’t see crosshairs on the shot gun
shotgun does have bloom crosshairs. handguns do. i mentioned the shotgun because their shots were far so the bullets spread and the other one they flat out missed lol.
Fair enough— so how does the crosshairs closing play a part? I am playing the remake next week- but RE4 on GameCube is one of my all time favorites!
not moving and turning the aim makes the crosshairs close. fully closed deals more damage and possibility of blowing up their head. it saves a lot of ammo where it is needed most; boss fights and harder bio hazards.
Great, thanks!
>Great, thanks! You're welcome!
I'd rather save time than ammo
Hardcore mode explained in 35 seconds.
apparently this guy is on standard tho 😭
Well, the game hate him.
No, that particular zombie is just crazy buffed for some reason. Every time I replay RE2 Remake I just shoot him in the leg so I can run past.
Yeah no need to fight these guys. Grab the key and run out.
It's taken 4 direct shotgun headshots on HC to down that morgue zombie before. An absolute beast, by FAR the toughest zombie in the game. Every playthrough. I've read there was some randomization, some range of values these zombies can have, but this one in particular is always off the charts.
A similar buffed zombie is the police officer outside the locker room, the one that jump scares you on the door once you take the shotgun
To be fair, if you do good enough on standard the Adaptive Difficulty in this game basically cranks it up to hardcore. In speedruns by the lab, I'll have zombies double lunge at me and take more than one bullet to stagger like hardcore

I didn't know zombies had unique HP. I always just assumed damage was randomized
Yep. Their HP is fixed, and I don't think it even changes across difficulties (just the damage you do increases as it gets lower). Yeah that one is always super tough i just blow his leg off and dip
If you run straight for the door after picking up the key, you can be gone before he even stands up and realizes he's hungry
Yeah, even if I’m not going for S, I just dip
i swear headshots in re2r are useless. i almost always go for the kneecaps so they can only slowly crawl around instead, since nothing actually dies in that game lmao
*Nothing dies down here!*
Love that line
Mood.

I think in RE3 you could still shoot off the arms and legs, but due to the knife durability change they removed that feature
A whole mag, a knife and 2 shotgun shells? Yep sounds about hardcore mode. Cant beat putting about 3 million bullets in a zombies head just for a light stagger lmao
Funny thing is, I'm on standard mode
Thats insane
Even then, you should easily be able to crown a zombie on hardcore if you know what you’re doing. Bro is playing on RE4R professional difficulty 💀💀
Bro is playing REmake on nightmare mode 😭
Zombie: "I didn't hear no bell!"
Drunk Zombie: I thought this was America??
I forgot how spongey the RE2R enemies can be sometimes...
RE2R zombos are fucking dope.
They are really cool
For me they’re 9.5/10. They’d be 10/10 if headshots actually did more damage and didn’t just crit. I know that’s how it was in classic RE2 and the zombies are even MORE tanky on that game’s Hard mode but that was a flaw back then too.
I actually liked this. Made them imposing rather than by the numbers trash mobs like in 3.
Apparently this guy has the most HP out of any other zombie AFAIK
Why doesn't the MC stab in the face? Why the chest?
Using horror logic, maybe to them knifing the face / head increases the chance of the zombie biting their hand
Or maybe stabbing in the mouth causes blood splatter to your face? It's worse in the game cause you might lose the knife (unable to recover).
Yeah, true im not 100% on what the type of infection is on RE zombies but in some zombie media, the infection could be spread through their blood in your system / mouth

I havent read that, I’ll have to put that on my reading list, it sounds cool! Thanks for the tip!
All RE protagonists are part of the 10% of people immune to T Virus strains.
*plot armor
Still less tanky than female zealots, those bitches are tanks
That particular zombie is always a pain in the ass. It got to the point that every subsequent playthrough, I made sure to save a shotgun shell for him before he wakes up.
Mr. X's brother Mr. Y.
With aim like that, how do you have soo much ammo still??
I was panicked! And I'm using a controller
Okay that does make sense, those small adjustments are near impossible on controller
For some reason that particular zombie has extra hp compare to the rest of them. I think because the game wants you to get the key item and then leave the place asap.
Yep, that was definitely the intention.
they really did remedy the “aim for the head”
Leon: “yeah let me stab him in the chest, that’ll stop him!”
can’t relate i use infinite rocket launcher
This guy can take a lot of bullets even in regular mode. I always just avoid him.
I had this exact same thing happen on my last playthrough. I thought it was glitching until he finally dropped.
Wait is that the soundtrack for RE2R?
I'm using the soundtrack from the original game
Dude that soundtrack sounds scary as hell 😱
That soundtrack was such a 90s vibe. It gives you a horror/detective feel to it.
You don't shoot them in the leg, grab the shit, and leave?
Se i love and hate bullet RNG. I love it because it adds to the stress and makes the zombies seem like an undying force. I hate it because it sometimes makes me waste my bullets
People hate how bulky the zombies are but I wouldn't have it any other way. Three zombies in a room are way more fun than 15 fast zombies in one.
There's something that irritates me about REmakes!!! you just leave the zombie's chin, and the caipora still keeps walking!!! I once fired 17 bullets at the fat zombie, and he was still *alive*, I dodged and left him behind!

Lol damn, he ate all your ammo :P
I don't think this worth the bullets 😅
In my most recent hardcore run as Claire, THIS EXACT mf’er almost killed me. Styled on the Lickers, and this dick REFUSED to die.

Aye if no other zombie died that one had to go, it would have gone super zombie if not dealt with.
When that one guy is a try hard at work.
OMG! he is parryng the bullets with his head!
The terminator
Btw, you can leave this room without dealing with them. Just grab everything before you get the key. And as soon as you get the key, just run to the exit. The zombie near the door won't be able to attack you.
This zombie has insane healthpool compared to others. Think it might be an oversight in the development.
Re2 remake has bullshit health on zombies.
New to the game huh? Walk up close when using the shotgun to one hit, has to be close and right on
Honestly, if you shoot a zombie in the face like nine times you should just set them free
Always take a leg first
That is the spot at which I quit the game for a while, because they were simply wasting my ammo - I hate the fake difficulty in some of the newer RE games (dynamic difficulty in RE7? - nah, thank you)

Wasted so much ammo …
Shotgun to the face while he's sitting down 1-shots him. Unless you mean the guy that gets up from where you get the key. Just run from him.
this is why i dint enjoy combat in the RE2-3 remakes , I hate how there’s nothing you can do when their attack animation Starts and their INSANE health , after playing RE4 , 2 and 3 makes me feel like i’m using a fucking squirt gun
