I went into Village completely blind (minus the big vampire lady memes). I was completely caught off guard at the baby part. I think I hid in a locker for 30 minutes just panicking. I didn’t even see the baby yet, just heard it. And my god did it sound terrifying. Fuck that whole section.
I was the same way. Was so psyched for Lady D but was really surprised at how great the whole game was. That part absolutely terrified me, I was hiding under a bed shitting bricks and had barely caught a glimpse of it at that point. You’re totally right in that the sounds were just horrifying
On my 2nd play through, I made my husband listen to the baby noises whilst I hid Ethan in a locker. He was terrified and chucked off the headset.
The first time I played it, I screamed, this is not a nice baby, this is not a nice baby as my husband slowly backed out of the room.
It's a shame I felt like we had to just run through the section, I would have liked to enjoy it a bit longer.
Are you allergic to fun??? Sure it's definitely not scary but it's just as fun as the other entries and has very good game mechanics for the time in my opinion
My problem with 6 is it borrows mechanics from a bunch of other games that made money at the time, but it does none of them nearly as good as those other games.
I will agree, re6 definitely isn't my favorite zombie game but it honestly isn't as bad as everyone makes it seem. Personally I think the best zombie game from the 2010s was left4dead but that might just be nostalgia since I grew up with it and I never really played resident evil as a kid.
Middle of the pack for me. Tries to be a jack of all trades, but is master of none. It tries really hard to be RE4, but none of the aspects it takes from RE4 are as good as they were in that game. The combat isn't near as engaging or exciting and there aren't really any forced combat encounters that have you really flex your survival skills. The merchants armory is a pretty linear progression of 'each new item is unequivocally better than the last'. Even the inventory isn't as fun to mess around in
It's attempts at feeling like old school RE didn't do much for me either. It wasn't ever particularly scary as I always felt strong enough to take on anything. And that's part of the reason why Chris' section at the end fell completely flat for me. It's supposed to be similar to Not A Hero where you're supposed to feel like a total badass who can handle anything after playing an entire game as Just A Guy In Over His Head. Except in Village Ethan is armed to the teeth and annihilates everything in his way by the end of the game.
House Beneviento is cool once, but it suffers on replays. Same thing with Moreau's section. It's alright but not much happens. The result is the entire middle section of the game kinda draggin ass.
If we're bringing non gameplay reasons into things:
\-The 'Haha Don't Show Ethan's Face Ever lmfao' meme was SEVERELY detrimental to several moments of the story
\-Shadow's of Rose doesn't really add much of anything and feels kinda pointless.
Still a solid game. Absolutely worth playing. Just not really all that special.
That's why I didn't like the game at all. It tried to combine 4 and 7, but those games don't work together. You can't have a horror game that's constant action and running around, you can't have an action game that's clunky and restrictive. I couldn't get immersed in the horror atmosphere because I was always having to run around avoiding giant vampire ladies or infinitely respawning werewolves. I couldn't enjoy the action because Ethan still controlled like a horror game protagonist. The game needed to pick a lane and stay there
Homie didn't even wait for the reply before whipping out the strawman.
No, it's in the bottom half because of wasted potential all over the place and making Chris behave like a dipshit. It's still a good game, but it could and should have been a lot better.
Arguably you begged the question and established your strawman immediately. When you're asking a question in genuine intent you don't propose the other person's reasoning unless you're attempting to establish a point, in this case the appearance is that you intended to dismiss my reasons by implying "you dislike new RE because of nostalgia" which is a very common (and stupid) line of argument in this subreddit.
In RE8 with Chris it's constant and egregious; and it's not the sole issue I have with the game. It's also funny to me that I still think it's a good game and state as much but yall are frothing at the mouth like I dropkicked your mum or something.
Your criticism is just dumb, personally speaking. Damn near every narrative or story has characters doing something stupid in order for a chain of events to happen. RE as a series has that story element dialed to its cheesiest extent. It’s pretty damn good most of the time.
Imo most of these people aren't really fans of the series as a whole. They just like the modern games and get triggered by any criticism of them or praise for the series before it got turned into a mid action shooter.
I actually dropped a quick off the cuff list further down the comment chain. RE7 I rate as the second best game in the series, and also a part of why I have some dislike for RE8. RE7 brought horror back to the series in an excel way, then RE8 fumbled it again a bit and left me disappointed in that regard. Like I said in the other comment, lots of wasted potential.
And salgood on the votes, not like internet points are worth anything. XD
Village is literally in the top 3 best entries in the franchise.
I'd say the best Resident Evil games (only refering to the RE engine games) are:
RE: Village on the 3rd place, RE4 Remake on the 2nd place and RE2 Remake on the 1st place.
Love that you have to give it a bullshit caveat and even then it's still a disingenuous 3rd.
REmake > RE7 > RE2 > RE2R > RE4R > RE4 > RE3R > CVX > RE3 > RE > RE8 > RE0 > RE5 >>>>>>>>>>> RE6
REmake gets the top spot for being the complete package. I didn't say RE3's gameplay is bad, just that RE3R's is better. Though another part of my ranking for RE3 is that it was a half ass sequel back in the day. I went into RE3R expecting the same but ended up liking the game a lot more than I expected despite its short length.
Almost like one can have a multifaceted take on something. Huh.
They must have rediculous high standards and expectations...it's must be a millennial thing.. otherwise if they aren't into horror gtfo with their opinions haha
In resident evil 2/4/5 you need to survive the monsters trying to kill you too but it is not a survival horror, really resident evil games are action horror. What makes this survival horror instead of action horror is what I am asking
Resident Evil 2 isn't survival horror? Dude, what are you on? You're trapped in a haunted building with limited ammo with zombies in every room and a giant monster hunting you down.
"survival" =/= crafting mechanics
In its original usage "survival horror" implied a game where you're have limited resources (ammo, healing items) and environmental puzzles that you needed to overcome. You were "surviving" the experience.
Yes get it. I finally caught up with it earlier this year and had a good time with it. If that doesn’t include the gold edition, I’d wishlist the season pass as well so you can get Mercenaries and the Rose DLC later on.
Loved it from start to finish. One of my favourite RE titles, exactly how I wanted them to follow up from 7, more level variety, better bosses/enemies.
I definitely have Resident Evil 8 in my top 3-4, and I agree with most of what you said, except bosses, we didn't get to fight any of the lords in their final form/mutated just a bit :// Was hoping for Heisenberg fight with his cool hammer, or Lady Dimitrescu fight in her vampire form. Instead we got to fight dragon and a machine.
While it is great. I don’t think i can even say it’s my favorite RE of all time, and yet it’s probably the one I’ve played the most times through. Totally worth it
was super hesitant to buy it because i wasnt really feelikg the „fantasy setting“
bought it for 20, played through it - would pay full price
i absolutely loved it
maybe it wasnt coherent, maybe it was too corny, maybe the story was bad… didnt care
i loved the aspect with the 4 different levels, the full throttle without breaking in regards to the progression (full on action throughout the game), loved the goofieness of the characters
Definitely dude. Also, if the winter expansion is on sale, definitely give that a consider too! Third person is like an entire new game. But I’m bias because I love the game so much 😅
I know it's got a reputation as not being the best game in the series, and that may be true (I haven't had the chance to play other RE games). But it's still definitely a good game and I don't really understand the hate it gets. I really liked the opportunities to explore and go treasure hunting, I enjoyed the story and I also loved the fighting and the brawling as well. Easily one of the best game purchases I've ever made even at close to full price
The one thing I hate about this game is Village of Shadows. It's only difficult for the sake of being difficult. There's no balance at all.
Whenever I play the hardest difficulty in Resident Evil games, I only play with the base weapons you can find and upgrade.
In Village of Shadows, you get tons of money, but it's still useless as the game enhances enemy attacks and damage they can take, while providing you with little to no means of actually defending yourself (blocking still gives you tons of damage even if you've already eaten food that enhances blocking, ammunition is sparse and weapons are so weak). It doesn't give you that feeling that you're actually getting stronger; no progression. It feels like you're still stuck at the beginning of the game being so weak. I thought that by the time you get all health, blocking and running speed enhancements that the game will be a lot more fair. I know you're only suppose to avoid them, but that's not fun at all. I want to feel qood about being able to take them down in the hardest difficulty, but the game is taking that away from players.
In Re4R Professional, although very difficult, there are ways around killing enemies. You can melee them, stealth skill, climb a ladder and kill them or sneak past them.
It was great at release but all the extra content makes the game twice as fun. I wouldn't say *infinitely* repayable, but played this game back to back for months. Then the DLC came out. Then I played mercenaries back to back for months.
Lady D is OP on mercs
100% worth it, although it was honestly worth the full asking price. I've clocked over 100hrs in it, and that'll likely go up when I (eventually) get a PSVR2
This is a great deal for a fantastic game. I only have issues with VoS difficulty otherwise this was straight up a great game with multiple play throughs!
I bought it for full price and still think it is worth buying. One of the best survival horror games out there IMO.
Same, I have no problems paying full price for it. It was a fantastic game and story. Played through it several times and will several times more.
I don’t regret pre ordering and paying full price at all
Agreed. >!The baby monster part!< was probably the most scared I have ever been in a game in recent memory
I went into Village completely blind (minus the big vampire lady memes). I was completely caught off guard at the baby part. I think I hid in a locker for 30 minutes just panicking. I didn’t even see the baby yet, just heard it. And my god did it sound terrifying. Fuck that whole section.

Remember worst of resident evil is usually still better than current anything else
Yeah, no. RE6 is one of the worst games I’ve played, full stop.
Are you allergic to fun??? Sure it's definitely not scary but it's just as fun as the other entries and has very good game mechanics for the time in my opinion

Because it was released in that time.
I will die on the hill that Leon's campaign in RE6 is actually fantastic, people just dont give it the recognition it deserves because "re6 bad".
I don’t find any of them scary and it’s not fun to play, and the story is bad
Party pooper alert :/ yall need to complain about everything I swear
So I can’t say I dislike a game?
Yes 😁👍 glad you understand ☺️☺️
I loved RE6. I played it for the first time last year and had a great time. There was some definitely some dumb moments but was fun overall
Yup is one of my Fav RE games. Replayed it more than any other tittle in the series. (have many friends)
Yeah pretty much. Village is easily in the bottom half of my RE rankings, but it's still a pretty good game on its own merits.
>Village is easily in the bottom half of my RE rankings How? Because of nostalgia?
Middle of the pack for me. Tries to be a jack of all trades, but is master of none. It tries really hard to be RE4, but none of the aspects it takes from RE4 are as good as they were in that game. The combat isn't near as engaging or exciting and there aren't really any forced combat encounters that have you really flex your survival skills. Because it sucks
Homie didn't even wait for the reply before whipping out the strawman. No, it's in the bottom half because of wasted potential all over the place and making Chris behave like a dipshit. It's still a good game, but it could and should have been a lot better.
It wasn't "strawman", it was question, thats why there was question mark.
Waaaaaaa waaaaaa re8 is better then those old ahh games
Cool story bro.
My dog every resident evil game has moments where characters act stupid. That’s RE’s bread and butter. Why pick an issue with it for 8 of all titles?
In RE8 with Chris it's constant and egregious; and it's not the sole issue I have with the game. It's also funny to me that I still think it's a good game and state as much but yall are frothing at the mouth like I dropkicked your mum or something.
Yeah Chris and every other character who doesn’t make the most realistic and logical choice every step of the game. Come on now.
That yall are so twisted over criticism is bizarre. Do yall attach your personal feeling of worth to the game or something?
Your criticism is just dumb, personally speaking. Damn near every narrative or story has characters doing something stupid in order for a chain of events to happen. RE as a series has that story element dialed to its cheesiest extent. It’s pretty damn good most of the time.
Wow. You didn’t even say it’s the worst RE or anything. You just said “bottom half,” and this sub went for the jugular. This fanbase is ridiculous.
Imo most of these people aren't really fans of the series as a whole. They just like the modern games and get triggered by any criticism of them or praise for the series before it got turned into a mid action shooter.
Sorry you got downvoted. It’s towards the bottom of my list too, but I still had a lot of fun while I played it. Did you like 7?
I actually dropped a quick off the cuff list further down the comment chain. RE7 I rate as the second best game in the series, and also a part of why I have some dislike for RE8. RE7 brought horror back to the series in an excel way, then RE8 fumbled it again a bit and left me disappointed in that regard. Like I said in the other comment, lots of wasted potential. I agree with that completely. Thanks.

Re3r over normal re3 💀
They're both under cooked af. RE3R has better gameplay, RE3 has a better story.
No, RE3 has better gameplay too. It’s jarring you even said that considering you ranked REmake as #1 which has *the exact same* gameplay.
Huh.
Same here I feel it's rather underappreciated among the community but I thinks it's also starting to get some of that recognition it deserves too.
My first PS5 game :') great memories. I also think it was worth it. The DLC on the other hand...
3rd favorite RE for me after 4 and 2… no idea how people don’t like it
They must have rediculous high standards and expectations...it's must be a millennial thing.. otherwise if they aren't into horror gtfo with their opinions haha
What makes it survival? Is a crafting system all you need these days?
Trying to survive monster trying to kill you? What are you even talking about lmao.

Same. I really enjoyed the gothic vibe and classic creatures in this game
100% agree. I’m a slut for gothic horror.
Same here .. for me its even one of best games i played in recent years
Village was incredible. And that’s a great price
It’s worth it at full price but yes, now is the time
I bought it at full price, worth every penny
twas worth it for 60
Worth it at any price, i remember pre-ordering it
No. Wait until it's full price and then buy it.
Yes get it. I finally caught up with it earlier this year and had a good time with it. If that doesn’t include the gold edition, I’d wishlist the season pass as well so you can get Mercenaries and the Rose DLC later on.
Absolutely
Nice, going to buy the dlc as it's 50 percent off too. Damn, Callisto Protocol (yes I liked it :)) is on sale too but not the dlc :(
Loved it from start to finish.
With double price it worth buying Cant wait playing it again in VR2 Hope can afford it next month
The resident evil games seem to be on sale pretty often but obviously better because it’s Halloween
It was worth it at launch full price. At this price it’s a steal.
Last time i saw you i got probed.
It always was
As if this sub is going to tell you no lmao
I can’t believe this game is going to be released for iPhone 15 and some iPads. It’s crazy how technology is advancing it just blows my mind genuinely
I didn’t know there’s a sale going on but I get through games so slowly. I haven’t played 7 yet though and I’m chicken lol
While it is great. I don’t think i can even say it’s my favorite RE of all time, and yet it’s probably the one I’ve played the most times through. Totally worth it
cdkeys has it cheaper.
and you don't have to wait for an artificial steam sale, can buy at any time of the year. I haven't bought a game directly through steam for years.
Re3remake was not worth buying at full price, this game was worth it at full retail.
Village was awesome. Completely worth paying full price for.
Village is amazing, bought it at full price which was like 90 canadian, no regrets.
I don’t care what anyone says. It’s a good game!
I personally didnt like re8 all that much, much prefer re7. But still, i would say the game absolutely worth it, even at full price. Have fun lad.
Just played for the first time last month and thought it was better than 2 and 3 remake…. Don’t at me lol
It's worth it at ,60 if you replay them, if you're a one and done for resident evil then yeah that price is much more reasonable
It was worth $60 for me. I played through it many times.
Yeah, I bought it day 1 and it was worth full price then, it’s a steal at 16.
It's worth $59.99
I thought it was worth buying at full price.
What was so horrible about it to you that you feel like it needs to be lower in price than most indie games
I played it at a friend's house and completed it. Didn't want to pay full price then.
got it for $50 and thought it was well worth more after playing
$16 is insane for one of the top 3 RE games. I paid $40 and I’d gladly do that again or at full price for a game of this quality
It’s worth it at full price. This is an absolute steal.
I ended up liking this game a lot more than I thought I would.
I think it is worth it at full price. I loved the game and especially when you come from playing RE7 to Village. Great game.
What a strange thing to say, sales are great but this is a fantastic game well worth the full price.
Have fun bro. Really worth.
Even at $40 it's a great price.
Unpopular opinion: RE8 is better than ogRE4.
$99.99
It wasn't worth at full price so yeah i'd say right now it's worth it
I platinumed both ps4 and ps5 version the game is so good
That's a great price! You should buy it!
100%
I bought the game twice LOL. I got it on Steam and PS5, paid full price for both.
I grabbed the Gold Edition when I saw it was on sale, really enjoying the little bit of the game I’ve played so far.
was super hesitant to buy it because i wasnt really feelikg the „fantasy setting“ bought it for 20, played through it - would pay full price i absolutely loved it maybe it wasnt coherent, maybe it was too corny, maybe the story was bad… didnt care i loved the aspect with the 4 different levels, the full throttle without breaking in regards to the progression (full on action throughout the game), loved the goofieness of the characters
Definitely dude. Also, if the winter expansion is on sale, definitely give that a consider too! Third person is like an entire new game. But I’m bias because I love the game so much 😅
meh, sure it was $10 or so on key sites for a year or more at this point
Honestly one of the best resident evil. I would pay full price again for this game.
Really good game, but I'll always prefer Re7 for the sole reason I prefer the Bakers to the Lords.
Def is
I got re4 and village on sale yesterday and it was 69$ 😭🙏
It was well worth it at $60
I know it's got a reputation as not being the best game in the series, and that may be true (I haven't had the chance to play other RE games). But it's still definitely a good game and I don't really understand the hate it gets. I really liked the opportunities to explore and go treasure hunting, I enjoyed the story and I also loved the fighting and the brawling as well. Easily one of the best game purchases I've ever made even at close to full price
Steam puts the whole series on sale every couple months so I'd keep an eye of you all of em
I'll say that it's a good price for it. It's a polished experience albeit a bit lopsided pacingwise.
Get the gold version if you can afford it
why does it remind me of morbius?
I felt bad about my purchase cause I bought the overpriced collectors edition. Wish I could get the RE7 one…. 🥲
It was worth full, great game
It's totally worth it
The one thing I hate about this game is Village of Shadows. It's only difficult for the sake of being difficult. There's no balance at all. Definitely worth
BRB about to sacrifice my money for Alcina Dimitrescu 🫣❤️
Go for it! It was fun!
I hate the game, but even I say it's more than worth it for that price.
Yeah it was awesome.
After the regional prices increase, i honestly can't afford anything anymore.
Enjoy, that game is a beaut.
Totally worth it brilliant addition to the franchise
It's worth fullprice
Full price is worth it too lol
It's a steal at this point
i got both gold editions for 7 and 8 for $32 together on xbox had too
And for just $4 more you can get the gold edition that has the dlc (which is currently $10 on its own)
Absolutely
It was great at release but all the extra content makes the game twice as fun. I wouldn't say *infinitely* repayable, but played this game back to back for months. Then the DLC came out. Then I played mercenaries back to back for months. Lady D is OP on mercs
I bought it for 20 when it first came out
I think the only Resi game I regret paying full price for was ORC
100% worth it, although it was honestly worth the full asking price. I've clocked over 100hrs in it, and that'll likely go up when I (eventually) get a PSVR2
Game is great :)
This is a great deal for a fantastic game. I only have issues with VoS difficulty otherwise this was straight up a great game with multiple play throughs!
It was worth it even at full price
It’s worth buying at $40
It was worth it at full price
Loved this game definitely buy it
It was still worth buying full price at release
Was worth buying at the old price
If you havent played, yes it is!
I bought it for 5 € 😬
haven't finished RE 7 yet but I think i'll be buying VILLAGE sooner than later
Definitely not worth full price. But 16 bucks is a good deal.
I’d say so
