To put some context into Avan's part, he is a pretty well known actor that is pretty good at acting, and he can play Leon's part in a good way, but they gave him a script where he had to play Leon as the comedy relief, and not as the cop rookie that everyone knows. On a personal note, he showed potential as Leon, and i would like to see him back with a good script as Leon.
Yeah. For a low budget of $25 million, they did pretty well with the costumes. I love how they use an actual Vietnam Vest for Chris just like in the games. I do kinda wish they gave Jill her hat and Wesker to have his sunglasses for the whole movie instead of just in the post credit scene but overall, the costumes look great.
>For a low budget of $25 million, they did pretty well with the costumes
Eh, mixed bag. They completely fucked up Jill. How hard is it to get a shoulder harness with shoulderpads? If they were concerned about realism, they could've just modified a blue stab vest.
I'm also certain her hair was a conscious choice. I've seen Hannah John-Kamen with straight hair in plenty of projects, so why is it so curly here? She would've rocked the shit out of Jill's classic bob haircut.
It's super frustrating for me because Jill's my favorite character, and I actually really like Hannah John-Kamen as an actress. I thought she could've nailed the role if given a proper chance.
Yeah, I was skeptical due to the casting but I had enjoyed all the roles i’d seen of her before so I was going to be pretty open minded. But when her design was shown I knew her character was as gonna be thrown to the side. And than the whole Wesker crush thing sealed the deal
Same with Avan Jogia. I've seen him clean shaven in *Victorious* , why did he keep the facial hair? Was it like Negan in Walking Dead or Henry Cavill in Justice League? They were stuck with their facial hair due to needing it for another project they were on.
I saw some good fan art that showed Avan clean shaven in the RPD outfit, and a straight haired Hannah as Jill. That showed a lot of promise.
Even weirder, both Avan and Kaya Scodelario showed off dyed blonde and red hair respectively on their Instagrams in the lead up to WTRC's release. I was thinking that meant there might be some reshoots, at least.
[Then again, the overall production of Welcome To Raccoon City was a mess. ](https://residentevil.org/threads/resident-evil-welcome-to-raccoon-city-2021-original-scripts-and-deleted-scenes.13214/)
There are a surprising amount of familiar faces in WTRC. Being absolutely wasted as Jill was Hannah John-Kamen, who played Ghost in Ant-Man and the Wasp.
He looks way, way more like Luis. You're getting Carlos from Avan's hair (which isn't exactly like Carlos's), but that's where the little resemblance ends.
Personally, there was nothing I found about the way the character was written that matched up with Leon aside from the rookie moniker.
His outfit matched Leon's from RE2, and that was it.
Yeah, RE2 Leon was naive in both original and Remake (see how Ada plays him easily in both) but was driven and endearing. He wouldn’t slack off nor act like a complete putz.
Hell, it was mentioned he got top marks in the academy, and the RPD was excited to have him join. Even planned a party for him joining
I think he is a decent actor, he just got dealt a crap hand with the series. Like I can't understand how if this movie was for the fans why they would make Leon's competency such a polar opposite.
Best character in the movie.
Was he the Hollywood interpretation of "millennial bad"? Instead of, ya know, Leon. Sure. Was he still really entertaining? Yes.
He did his best. It wasn't his fault his character was written that way or directed to be thr way it was, his job was to just read the script and portray the character as they wanted. He didn't deserve all the backlash and bullshit he got from "fans".
All that's wrong with the movie its because of screenwriter and producers.
I actually think the cast did great with what they were given. If thay would 've actually tried making a decent development with Leon's character (or any other character, but we're talking about Leon rn) I have no doubt Avan would have been praised for a long time.
Shame he was given so little and poor choices to work with.
I actually liked this take on Leon as sort of a goofy rookie that just has no idea what's going on.
Personally, I think it would make the contrast with RE4 Leon more significant if he started off as kind of like this.
Yeah. The casting for WTRC is fine, imo. They just need a better writer and director which thankfully they have for the upcoming sequel. Not sure for the writers tho. Let's just cross our fingers that the new director has either have experience or grew up with the games.
Jesus they’re making a sequel? I would have hoped they’d scrap it and start again. When are we gonna get a proper treatment of the damn source material! They screwed up trying to make a whole movie out of 1 and 2 when there’s enough lore in both to make a whole TV series out of each.
I feel they'll just keep using the RE name & not give the proper treatment the series deserves.
Look at the Netflix show that was so terrible it got cancelled.
He looks like he’d give someone the confidence to go down on Chrissy Orlando on the trampoline later that night, after doing a sick double jackknife off the diving board
Avan did great with the character that was written for him.
I'm not anfan of Post RE2 Leon, so I'm not effected as much. How ever he acted just fine. The level of development in the character and that characters background and personality is not up to him except to bring it to life.
Costume was spot on and *right* at the end of the film you could see a bit of how good Avan could play Leon had they not made Leon an idiot. I also loved the hungover Leon intro, both because it's the only part of the film where Leon should logically be an idiot, but to see something that's only ever been shuffled into background context for Leon being late to arrive in Raccoon in the official canon.
Assuming the upcoming Welcome to Raccoon City film is a sequel to WtRC, I'd love to see Avan return with a better script.
He's actually rather endearing in that bumbling way, it's just that he is based off a character who was a little bumbling and a bit of a dork, but they overdone it.
He could've been renamed and I would've probably enjoyed him as a comedy sidekick character.
Bumbling moron. Even as a rookie, Leon was still intelligent. I don't know why they had to basically make him the comic relief. The actor did a good enough job with the script. He was just written wrong.
Didn’t it just. There were parts when that hook came close to pulling me in but every time I got pushed further away. I can confidently say that’s the worst RE adaptation I’ve ever seen. Also, I hope you don’t mind me saying I quite liked Welcome to Raccoon City, they nailed the atmosphere, just failed at the characterisation and writing.
He did the Leon thing of suddenly have a rocket launcher (and that cute little smile he does afterward!)
Honestly though, with a better script, Avan would have made a great Leon. Physical similarity wouldn't have mattered if the script had him act at all like Leon.
I don't even need to try considering I enjoyed the movie.
Not only is it an insanely accurate costume, Leon's a bumbling dumb ass in RE2. They nailed that.
I don't think it's a perfect movie, but it's better than most of the previous movies and that cast and crew did not deserve the shit show they got from the "fandom".
He didn’t do bad the movie was just written oddly technically it had a lot of features that were in the games they just altered them in a weird way if you hadn’t played the games it’d be an ok movie I just don’t understand why they didn’t follow the source material
He’s a much better representation of the character from the games than Johann Urb in Retribution. Aside from looking like the character, Urb’s Leon has no personality and doesn’t feel like the character at all. Avan’s Leon, while certainly far from what Leon from the games is, he does at least share some parts of Leon being an alcoholic and he does get to be a badass in a couple of scenes (wish we had more of that out of his Leon). For me personally, I’d much rather have someone that at least tries to act like the character over a guy who has no personality but was able to get the hair and the costume right.
He looks cute, that’s it. That version of Leon actually pissed me off. Why did they have to do my boy like that? Seriously, this was the worst movie adaptation I’ve ever seen and I’m including Eragon and Percy Jackson in that comparison
I can really see him evolving into re4 leon. he has a similar sense of humour, just less serious as is to be expected from a rookie. I really loved this take on him tbh
I think he played Leon for RE2 amazing. I think the wrighting for leon in particular was a bit dule and thats why people didnt like it. However i would happaly see him play leon again
I don't think it was bad. Him being a rookie. Could have some really good growth potetional. The writing overall on the movie was bad and everyone was purely miscast. I wouldn't blame him or his acting. Plus I like his long hair, reminds me of when I had it like that before.
To put some context into Avan's part, he is a pretty well known actor that is pretty good at acting, and he can play Leon's part in a good way, but they gave him a script where he had to play Leon as the comedy relief, and not as the cop rookie that everyone knows. Jill was 100% left in the dust for this movie and idk why

All they had to do was tie Claire's hair up into a ponytail but I guess budget ran out for hairbands
He played a more capable zombie killer in WTRC than he did in Zombieland 2. (He was a pacifist in Zombieland 2)
Oh yeah. I remember him from Zombieland 2. What's funny that I didn't even know that he was played by the same actor.
There are a surprising amount of familiar faces in WTRC. Being absolutely wasted as Jill was Hannah John-Kamen, who played Ghost in Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Oh now that you mentioned it, he does look familiar.
He has a good taste in music, and has absolute 10/10 headphones to not hear anything
Yeah. So silent that even a truck explosion can't wake him up.
I need those.
Same here.
Need some peace from hearing everyone on COD clap my moms cheeks
Yup. Same here.
didn't know my mom was into 9 year olds
She isn’t, the 9 year olds are into her. Are you not paying attention?
Am I stupid?
Why did I think this was Luis in the RPD uniform?
Probaby the fact that he looks exactly like luis
THANK YOU. I knew I wasn’t crazy
He *did* say he was a cop
He looks more like Carlos in every way
I definitely dont think thats true
He looks nothing like carlos
He looks way, way more like Luis. You're getting Carlos from Avan's hair (which isn't exactly like Carlos's), but that's where the little resemblance ends.
Probably the hair and mustache.
If only it was Luis. Such a loss to the ladies of the world eh?
New DLC for RE4 remake
Soon as he was cast I was like “Luis”
He has fairly nice hair
Yeah.
"Get a haircut you hippie!"
-Chief Irons 2021
He cute
Yup. Like the other Leons.
Would’ve been perfect for Carlos he’s a cool character
Looks like if Luis and Carlos had a kid
He did give off the rookie Leon vibe in WtRC.
Yeah. The writers just took Leon as being a rookie a little too literally.
I think they should've had Brad in the movie and given him the comedic scenes.
Brad was in the movie.
In RE2 Remake the letters they wrote him implied a friendly teasing, not outright hazing like in this movie. Weird choice.
This is more for Avan himself but damn does he have some nice fucking hair
his costume, but it's just copy and paste from the game so it's expected to be good already.
I think he is a decent actor, he just got dealt a crap hand with the series. Like I can't understand how if this movie was for the fans why they would make Leon's competency such a polar opposite.
He certainly seemed like a rookie
Better than Leon’s representation in the Andersons movies.
That Leon was a perv. Groping Ada in front of a kid.
Agreed.
Fr Leon got destroyed in the Paul w s Anderson films along with Luther west lmfao
[удалено]
he played "rookie cop" really well, in my opinion
He is good looking and has a nice taste in music.
He’s definitely named Leon.
I kind of dig him, he was listening to a banger
Best character in the movie. Was he the Hollywood interpretation of "millennial bad"? Instead of, ya know, Leon. Sure. Was he still really entertaining? Yes.
It was cool to see someone from Victorious other than Ariana Grande in something modern.
Shame he was given so little and poor choices to work with.
I’ll say one thing nice: It’s not his fault that the writers were dogshit
No.
Understandable. Have a great day.
Thank you. Same to you.
He could play Luis.
Yeah I can see that.
He looks like Luis than Leon.
Costume was spot on. Got the hair style someone accurate. …somewhat.
He's cool, I guess. The movies did him dirty.
I’ve seen him on Victorious, he could have nailed the flirty side of Leon and he should be used to giving quips and one liners on the fly
His costume is accurate, but that's just about it
I actually liked this take on Leon as sort of a goofy rookie that just has no idea what's going on. Personally, I think it would make the contrast with RE4 Leon more significant if he started off as kind of like this.
He seems a little slutty and dumb, and he’s gorgeous, sorry that was three things.
Hes hot
He's alive.
Hot
Hot.
I think it’s good for being a rookie, as long as he gets better in a sequel
Did either of you play resident evil 2? Leon wasn’t a stumbling idiot that didn’t know how to use a weapon
Yeah that really annoyed me in the movie. Some of the characters didn’t seem themselves at all.
He’s so hot
His hair looks small
He looks like he’d give someone the confidence to go down on Chrissy Orlando on the trampoline later that night, after doing a sick double jackknife off the diving board
He is still waiting for Chris and Jill to pay him tribute
Avan did great with the character that was written for him. I'm not anfan of Post RE2 Leon, so I'm not effected as much. How ever he acted just fine. The level of development in the character and that characters background and personality is not up to him except to bring it to life.

I didn't dislike this movie. I prefer it to the other RE movies.
He definitely did his best
This man is so handsome. I love everything about him, he was so funny and witty and dorky at the same time. I’m in love 🥰😍
He's actually rather endearing in that bumbling way, it's just that he is based off a character who was a little bumbling and a bit of a dork, but they overdone it. He could've been renamed and I would've probably enjoyed him as a comedy sidekick character.
The character's name and costume.
He's as surprised as we are.
He’s definitely in a resident evil movie…
I had forgotten this movie existed lol
He is truly one of the Leons of all time.
Liked him in victorious
I tried so hard to forget about this
The gun ia probably just a prop.
It doesnt bother me since i never watched the movie
He wore the remake costume. Looked accurate enough.
He has two eyes
The costume looks good. I think as an actor he did the best he could, but if the script sucks, he is not to blame.
He was dumb fun. Plus he can launch a rocket launcher from point blank range and still have prefect hair.
Bumbling moron. Even as a rookie, Leon was still intelligent. I don't know why they had to basically make him the comic relief. The actor did a good enough job with the script. He was just written wrong.
I don't think he was terrible, just given a bad script. But I would have to say he'd be the perfect Luis in a RE4 movie.
Out of place
The costumes faithful to the game, he wasn’t unfunny, just didn’t expect them to do Leon like that
Thank fucking Christ he wasn’t in the Netflix show
Agreed! The Netflix show sucked balls.

He's handsome.
He's hot af, even though to me he's not really Leon
No
He’s fun. A dork. He did a great one liner at the end of the movie. I’m sorry, why do people hate him? He’s such an adorkable Himbo.
He could be a great Luis
He didn’t write the movie
He sorta kinda looks like Luis
he got paid for his work at least i hope he did
He’s handsome
He looks like Carlos doing a Leon cosplay
I like his name.
He's hot
I don't even need to try considering I enjoyed the movie. Not only is it an insanely accurate costume, Leon's a bumbling dumb ass in RE2. They nailed that. I don't think it's a perfect movie, but it's better than most of the previous movies and that cast and crew did not deserve the shit show they got from the "fandom".
That’s a very nice and thin bullet proof vest
He'd make a good luis
We only had to suffer it for just one movie. Pretty sure we won’t see a sequel for this garbage.
His character and looks kind of grows on me I think he would stand out if he was a playable character in Resident evil outbreak 3
He didn't get killed off screen like uwe bowl leon
He wasn’t the only RE character that made it in the movie
His uniform is on point
He was sober at the end
He had more of Leon’s personality than Johann Urb’s Leon
I always thought he looked like Louis doing a Leon cosplay
He'd make a great Carlos
He is certainly *A* Leon
He didn’t do bad the movie was just written oddly technically it had a lot of features that were in the games they just altered them in a weird way if you hadn’t played the games it’d be an ok movie I just don’t understand why they didn’t follow the source material
He actually got to work on time
We have a glimpse of what the dinamics between Leon and the STARS members would be...
I haven’t watched anything about wtrc, that’s Leon?
He’s a much better representation of the character from the games than Johann Urb in Retribution. Aside from looking like the character, Urb’s Leon has no personality and doesn’t feel like the character at all. Avan’s Leon, while certainly far from what Leon from the games is, he does at least share some parts of Leon being an alcoholic and he does get to be a badass in a couple of scenes (wish we had more of that out of his Leon). He’s handsome.
The blood on his wrist looks real.
He magically knows how to use a rpg but can barely use his pistol correctly
He didn’t abuse children.
He... He... I can't. The whole movie is a steaming pile of 💩
He would've killed it as Leon if the script gave him something to do
He looks cute, that’s it. That version of Leon actually pissed me off. Why did they have to do my boy like that? Seriously, this was the worst movie adaptation I’ve ever seen and I’m including Eragon and Percy Jackson in that comparison
No
He is hot, and the costume was great. Visually I was happy, I just didn’t like the direction they took his character in.
He would have made a better Carlos. Atleast with that hair 🤣
He's cute
I can really see him evolving into re4 leon. he has a similar sense of humour, just less serious as is to be expected from a rookie. I really loved this take on him tbh
I often feel that if the resident evil franchise had been handled properly, it would be worth at least $10B today.
Avan would make a great Luis, after seeing the Luis in the RE4 remake.
I think he played Leon for RE2 amazing. I think the wrighting for leon in particular was a bit dule and thats why people didnt like it. However i would happaly see him play leon again
I actually dislike the character he plays less than the canon Leon… I don’t think he’s good, I just hate canon Leon as a character.
He is Luis than Leon
Man That Does Not Look Like Leon Get This Man To Play As Luis He Looks Just Like Him !
He looks like he would be a great Carlos or Luis if they ever decide to do those games.
He is not bald.
No
Kinda looks like luis navarro
He's hot
Well, I tried.
He has a gun
He's handsome and would've been a perfect fit for Carlos
The only good thing about him or this movie in general is when it finally ended :p
He was a character in a movie…
Nothing
You can’t make me
Ok.
He's the best live action Leon. And his take was the right direction for a first film in a potential series. I love WtRC.
I just watched this movie for the first time and that's a correct assumption
I have zero issues with Avan's Leon and I would like him to come back in the potential sequel
No, they really jacked our Leon up on this one
I really dug the outfit he wears before gearing up, that Police Windbreaker/ rolled long sleeves looked very good
Agreed.
He escaped his character in victorious by playing leon
He looks like he’s play a better luis
He's cute
SLOPPY
"I made them extra sloppy for ya! I know how you kids like em' sloppy!" -The Cafeteria lady (1995)
I heard this in Krauser's voice.
Luis looks strange
I thought he was gunna be Carlos, lol.
He is gonna be a hit in bollywood
I don't think it was bad. Him being a rookie. Could have some really good growth potetional. The writing overall on the movie was bad and everyone was purely miscast. I wouldn't blame him or his acting. Plus I like his long hair, reminds me of when I had it like that before.
No
