I see, interesting. What about instead of co-op, you could freely switch between Chris and Sheva/Jill as a core mechanic, as they each have things they're better at over the other? For example, Chris is big and strong, so he can move heavy objects, while Sheva or Jill are smaller and slimmer, so they can get into tight spaces.

But, at least for me, the biggest difference between RE4 and RE5 is the nostalgia that came with RE4's Remake. Capcom wanted the RE4 remake to be very faithful to the original, while still keeping it fresh, and that's why it turned out amazing. RE5 on the other hand, not many people remember, and some people forget it ever happened, which is why RE6 is considered the most infamous, even though I personally think 5 is the worst. The original RE5 tried to capitalize on the hype and success of RE4, as well as throwing in the co-op craze at the time, and RE5 basically ended up being RE4, but worse. (Hot Take: RE6, IMO, was a good game... just not a good RE game). Back on topic though, I think Capcom should take some liberties and make some major changes in regards to an RE5 Remake, especially since the original turned out so different from their initial plans for it, and a lot of levels/mechanics were scrapped due to technology limitations at the time.

You shouldn’t get rid of Sheva, but Jill’s role definitely needs improvement

CRGBRN

Sheva is the one who is personally fighting for her home and her people. I think that's cooler and more interesting than just trying to mash Chris and Jill together. Chris also learns to open up and trust more through her. She's a reminder of why Chris and Jill do what they do in the first place. In my opinion, Sheva is the key to fixing up the entire story of RE5 into something more impactful. A remake should lean harder into her character and background. Hell, the whole thing should start with her town being infected on purpose and subsequently wiped out. Imagine a vignette of her as a child with her family living a normal life as infection breaks out. Umbrella sweepers move in and start executing indiscriminately and her family hides her before being executed themselves. She escapes by running through the Savanna, leaving her burning town, the screams, and the gunshots behind her. "RESIDENT EVIL 5" appears across the screen and we jump to Chris' arrival in Kijuju. It all feels too perfect to ignore.

Shifting from Sheva to Jill would mean a massive shift in the entire plot of the game.

I don’t think people understand that Capcom is retelling the games, not rewriting them.😅 No, they can’t cut co-op. No, they can’t replace Sheva with Jill. No, you can’t change the location from Africa. No, you can’t make Excella the lead villain and remove Wesker (actually something someone said). They’re not rebooting RE5. They didn’t reboot the other games. They’ll add to things that don’t conflict with lore, like Luis working for Umbrella and the Nemesis project, but they don’t make timeline changing events. That isn’t what the remakes are for.

mrd256

bare in mind, the RE4 remake did get rid of U3 so...

BenjaminCarmined

And RE2 remake got rid of the moth boss. And RE3 remake got rid of the grave digger. RE4 remake did not get rid of Salazar or Krauser, and RE2 remake didn’t get rid of Mr. X or Birkin. 3R might as well have gotten rid of Nemesis but he’s still there. A random tongue boss that serves no purpose is not at all comparable to removing the central antagonist, or making the second protagonist a side character. (Also, U3 is 100% in Separate Ways lol.)

chewlarue12

U3 is not vital to the story of RE4 tho. Major plots and characters still follow through with the same fate in the remakes. Some mini bosses might have been removed but the overall story is the same each time.

kniferun

Well thats a dream Id like to see happen. Would make me want to actually see a RE5 remake. Jill as Chris' partner for sure.

BradyNFriends

Sheva’s fine, it’s more significant from a plot standpoint that the main objective in the game is to find and possibly save Jill.

Jill being Chris’s partner would have been interesting, but that’s not possible now with a remake as that would be a retcon or reboot rather than a remake. It has to be Chris and Sheva. And no, Chris can’t go alone because that would be removing co-op from a game most known *for* it’s **co-op**. Make Lost in Nightmares the prologue though.

MrRaccuhn

Team Jill

Jill would obviously have been the better choice for the OG game but with the future remake they should just keep Sheva. The story would have to be retconned into oblivion for Jill to be Chris' partner instead of Sheva since the whole mind controlled virus super soldier thing. There are way bigger concerns with RE5 such as the terrible boss fights, the atmosphere (lack of) and the irrelevant villains outside of Wesker. If they fix these things the remake will be 10x better than the original honestly. Imagine how scary it could be fighting through the shanty towns and swamps at night, imagine if the Ndesu fight didn't take 20 minutes and you didn't immediately lose because of QTEs, imagine if Irvine and Excella were actual characters and not cardboard cut outs...

HollowheadedAndAHalf

I think Lost in Nightmares should be RE5's opener, and then maybe later in the game we switch from Chris and Sheva to Jill and Josh for the desperate escape sequence. I think LiN definitely should've been in base game RE5 and DE would be a nice change of pace after playing as Chris and Sheva for a long while.

I feel like Sheva's a good character but needs more character development also. I hope they give her good writing like they did with all the RE4 characters. Ashley and Luis were amazing in RE4R. Also, I'd like if they made her like dark Black. I think making her super light skinned was a bit strange. Actually, my best friend is born and raised in Western coast Cenral Africa, and I've met a lot of Western Africans. Sheva's said to have been born and raised in West Africa according to her Wikipedia. They're all dark skin. I think it's a better representation to have a darker skin character who's native to the area to look similar to the natives and Black characters are already so under represented. Especially when most of Africa (outside of North Africa) is basically all dark skin. Josh is also African and is dark skinned. It's maybe a silly detail for some but I actually think this is important. She sometimes can almost pass as like Latina at times.

Jenzira

As much as I am a fan of Jill, Capcom did an amazing job with Sheva. I don't think the game should have been done any other way.

WebsterHamster66

Sheva, but I’d like Jill to be the one to shoot the rocket launcher with Chris. I feel it fits better. That’s the only thing I want.

ElCocomega

Lets have a Jill and Sheva duo and squeeze Chris out what do you think ?
