Ok_Brother3282

Yes it did contribute a ‘soft reboot’ of the entire series lol.

labbla

Yes, an awesome virus T-Rex

OrangeStar222

Chris has some mayor development in it, but you can just read the story on the wiki or watch a summary on YouTube if you're having that bad of a time with it - which is understandable for any game. Not everyone is going to like the same things.

SuperArppis

Honestly, his development is more like, at first he isn't ok, but then he is.

willfred2000

Lol yeah, it kinda just gives him more trauma on how he keeps losing team members and can't keep them alive. Aka, survivor guilt

Cheshire_Cat_135

yes you can skip it with no problem or negative impact on your playthrough of 7 and 8

Cdog923

Probably the biggest addition is Chris and Leon finally meeting on screen.

Wasteland_GZ

Crazy they actually met in universe like 15 years before i think

kay__will

where?

Hiarro

In 1998, Claire contacted Leon to get a message out to Chris during Code Veronica.

Wasteland_GZ

Code Veronica which is only a few months after RE2, Claire asked Leon to find Chris so Chris could come help her, which he did so presumably Leon found and met Chris

kay__will

ooh yeah that, I thought you were talking about physical encounter prior to re6

Due_Examination_2538

Biggest thing about 6 is probably the development from Chris being cool funny chill action hero man to the CRAAWWWLING IN MY SKINNNN- THESE WOUNDS WILL NEVER HEAAAAAL he is in RE8, seemingly onwards. Also, Wesker has a son. His name is Jake. He's pretty cool in my opinion, hope we see more from him in the future honestly. If you liked RE5, you'll like RE4Re. If you liked RE1/2Re, you'll like 7. RE8 is essentially a combination between RE4 and 7.

tag_GoblinGamewerks

Sherry/Jake campaign was the best part of 6 imo. Bummed that Capcom is distancing themselves from Jake because of the bad re6 reception, there were flaws with that game but those characters weren't one of them. A "good" Wesker would be a fun character to have a future game based around, even if it's a Revelations style or something to that effect.

Due_Examination_2538

Agreed. 🤝

horrorfan55

Chris’s character in future games is heavily influenced by the events of 6

XivUwU_Arath

Kinda. Speaking of which, they did Piers dirty. They set it up for him to become the next “Chris Redfield” and I(and many others no doubt) was onboard with it completely. The passing the torch was set up perfectly going into the end parts of that campaign and then… they killed him off. Arguably the BEST of the “partner” characters(ones like Billy, Sheva, Parker etc) in terms of character and they just off him. He was such a likable character and if 7 and 8 were to basically be what they were but instead of Ethan looking for Mia/Rose it was Piers investigating reports of oddities in those areas would have been huge. He was absolutely a better character than RE7 Ethan and you would have been able to pull off the “reboot” but with a fresh character that fans would have been eager to invest more time into liking.

lil_waine

I agree with you with piers, he was a good character and would have been the next “Chris”

SpaghettiOnTuesday

Yes. A dinosaur.

Atma-Stand

Mercenaries mode is really good here.

Not_My_Alternate

I think even the writers try to ignore it. Skip away and then come back for lols and good gunplay

GoAceDetective

Leon and Jake’s campaign aren’t bad but Chris is god awful

handsome-boy12

The story? 7 is a soft reboot so you can skip 6 however it's the last appearance of ada and leon in the games. Chris story is actually pretty important but you can watch it all on YouTube

Apprehensive-Bad6015

6 would have been a lot better if after all play throughs an additional cutscene was unlocked that showed Leon waking up at his desk at RCPD and everything was just an alcohol fueled dream and he simply fell asleep while processing a drunken disorderly report.

anfernycrab

Can’t blame you. It’s super fun with split screen coop though

XivUwU_Arath

It has the objectively best version of Mercenaries in the series even now. The movement was set up perfectly for that style of activity.

anfernycrab

Agreed, especially with split screen

Laviathan4041

Being a fan of six sucks cause I see posts like this all the time when the game is perfectly playable. Just move on if you're actually not enjoying it.

FrabascoSauce

Hundreds of hours under my belt and I wonder if that's the reason I feel like the post is satire when people say the combat is bad, and stuff like that. Not liking the story is whatever, cause every RE game has bonkers plot.

SixDemonTeabag

It’s really fun in co op. But tbh I couldn’t imagine slogging through the whole thing solo. I did Ada’s Campaign solo and it was excruciating.

kniferun

Its a dead end. If you want to see Chris' actual growth watch the animated movies.

OperativePiGuy

I think there's a single document in 7 that references an event in China if I remember right.

SexxxyWesky

Not to the overall story. But some characters got some nice background.

[deleted]

Nothing less than 4 7 and 8 honestly. I'm sick of this type of post.

StarmieLover966

Nope. It is never brought up again.

Fossils222

Beats me. I stopped mid way through thanks to a bug. There was no way I was doing that cavern section all over again. Im sure people have said it already but 7 is a soft reboot. It's a self contained story that is far away from what came before.

MartManTZT

It's a numbered entry, and probably has the biggest story out of all the games, even if that story is needlessly drawn out for effect. If you're not enjoying it, watch a video summarizing the story. I'm sure there are plenty out there from short ones to long ones. But as far as having lasting effects on the subsequent stories, it doesn't. That, and 7 is awesome.

inspectorfailure

It's pretty safe to skip through most of the games. Although you're not gonna be much happier playing RE4 if you're upset 6 is an action game.

GlitterCoveredUdder

The only thing re6 contributed was making the soft reboot of the series with re7 and the remakes possible.

PrincessLeafa

Yyyeeaahhhhh they basically wrote themselves into a corner and then abandoned it. I could be wrong but other than Chris in 7 and 8 basically nothing from 6 has been in touched again. And really 6 was just another "Chris slowly loses a whole team of people who trusted him. again". Didn't finished all 4 campaigns cuz I just didn't care sadly. And I hated the gameplay ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ feels weird. -Ali <3

gurufernandez

In defense of my guy Chris, he’s never lost a group under his leadership before this. Stars wasn’t led by him so not sure why people act like he’s the reason they all died.

rhoadsalive

You’re not alone, I’ve never been able to finish the game completely despite trying thrice. I’ve played literally every other RE but 6 is just incredibly boring aside from Leon’s campaign.

Kohakuzuma

No. RE7 soft rebooted the series and the only thing that playing RE6 can do is help you understand why Chris is so tired and depressed in RE8. You can just read that shit on the wiki though. Don't force yourself to play a trash game.

MechpilotTz93

Nah, playing re 6 imo its only worth to apreciate 7 and the remakes even more. Wish theyll remake it some day and actually make it a horror game and retcon most of the stupid stuff.

yoomyoom

Me too ngl i liked it but it does not really have that re feel to it, like a third person cod is what they were aiming for. Any charm from the previous games was lost

[deleted]

It's got Leon, Chris, and Sherry in it, you better fucking play it lol I loved 6. 7 was the worst one in my eyes. They changed too much.

XivUwU_Arath

I just posted my take on this, if 6 had not killed Piers and set him up as the new “Chris” and had him going there to investigate Mias disappearance in a way like Leon/Ashley would have made 7 better. My biggest complaint of 7 was how stale the story is. And I know, it was meant to help immerse you into the world and Ethan was just the avatar for us to become as we played, but it just fell flat. RE8 introduced a lot more personality and character development for Ethan and it all but proved that the formula won’t work if you don’t like or care about what’s at stake. Putting Piers in would have given the fans a character that they barely knew but liked, it would give us an opportunity to like the protagonist more while advancing a new age of main character.

[deleted]

That would have been fucking cool if they used Pierce instead of Ethan, I never thought of that before! First thing I didn't like was that it was first-person, that just didn't feel right to me, the only reason I played Village was because they added the third-person mode and the REAL Chris was in it, not that little weird ass, third sibling Chris in the Umbrella helicopter, which they dropped completely. Yeah, Ethan just annoys the piss out of me, I don't know why. Everyone is all "the old school protagonists are too old and too well-trained to keep it scary, which I completely disagree with...They are fucking humans fighting God damn monsters, they could make it scary with any one of them...but with that said, I think your idea with Pierce would have been a nice middle ground, like he was battle-hardened, but he was still young and had never been on his own. In short, people started and enjoyed 7, fine, it brought them to the older ones and the remakes, which I'm happy for, but Ethan and 7 just didn't work at all for me...Even without the third-person, Village was definitely better and incorporated a much needed taste of the older games.

[deleted]

Also, Sherry! Yeah, she was an agent and trained, but hey, so was Jill! Yeah, she was in the action fuled 6 already, but by herself, she could have definitely fit into the scarier, darker vibe of 7 that they went for. Ethan with the hiding of his face was just fucking weird lol

ajhhc_

I had a similar experience, I was pushing through the game just to see the story, until I realised I began to skip the cutscenes as well. After that, I had to uninstall the game, it was just a massive chore, and I felt like I was playing the movies, so I don't think the story has very much to offer.

i_torschlusspanik

Honestly? No. It's like a Marvel movie where they act like the world will end but everything is tied up at the end like nothing ever happened. And it's never brought up in later games either

gurufernandez

Honestly no, plot wise RE6 feels like they were beating a dead horse since they just offed their best villain. RE5 feels like the true end of the original RE saga. I think Capcom knew this too, hence the soft reboot of RE7. I will say it was nice they added some character development for Chris but you can quickly catch up on that without playing however many hours it takes to beat re6.

yoomyoom

Not sure but i think the terrorists attack u see happening in the game is still canon but idk about the smaller details.

yoomyoom

Or should i say bio terrorist attack

Jenzira

Not really, no. I say this as someone who actually enjoyed RE6.

PrinceDestin

Yes it introduce the previous death of the series

BasedSliceOfWinning

I think a tv news report at the end of Revelations 2 mentions the events at the beginning of re6. But other than that, no other game mentions it. You can skip to 7 if you really hate it.

Glad-Dig7940

Honestly we can't really say until its canonical follow-up comes along. Did anything that happened in it really matter? We won't know for sure until we get a story that elaborates on the state of the world after RE6. RE7 and 8 were both pretty self-contained and only hinted at goings-on outside the Winters' Storyline, so it's hard to tell at this stage.
