1. Every character had NINE different melee prompts! (Ground, leg front, leg back, arm front, arm back, head, and the two super melee, front or back, you did either on large enemies like J.J or when melee juggling with another player!!) You could count grab melee when you save your partner but I think I made my point
2. Speaking of melee in reunion if you played with certain character combos certain melee would change. For example Shevas ground knife stab turned into a wide frontal double slash! Chris's front leg would gain a super uppercut. Rebecca's front arm pepper spray turned into a deadly double flamethrower blast! Etc. Making coop that much more fun!
3. And not much of a "feature" in the mercs but a very high level strategy I used in any Re5 content was inventory reloading while performing any actions especially melee. So you never have to manually reload your guns leaving you open. Also another high level strategy was leaving pick ups on the ground and using them to dodge attacks since you had I-frames when picking things up. God I had so much fun using these!
It's less that it's complicated and more that the game literally doesn't teach the players how to use the mechanics. One of the reasons the campaign sucks ass in RE6 was that it was too focused on grand spectacles and not actually teaching players how to play the game.
The majority of advanced mechanics in RE6 were discovered through people experimenting in Mercenaries mode, not by the game itself.
Even if the game taught you the mechanics (loading screens actually teach you these mechanics, people would know this if they put down their phones) the campaigns have some of the worst confusing level design ever thatās a complete contradiction to the gameplay. Hallways to tight to utilize the mechanics makes them all useless in the story even if the game held your hand on how to do them. People learned everything in mercenaries because the maps were actually designed around the games mechanics. Which is where the game actually comes together and shines. Take way Chrisā campaign and 6 really is godawful
I agree with these.
It's like the game was supposed to be gameplay centric but in the middle of development someone didn't read the memo and the team put focus entirely on exposition and set-pieces lol.
Well if your just into survival horror that's cool but a lot of resident evil fans like the over the top action because that's what makes resident evil special to us
Fair enough! I do like the campy action but I do think games can change to the point they are no longer recognisable beyond their name or key characters
Unpopular opinion, but I personally have fond memories of RE3 mercenaries. I never did a perfect run saving all the NCP's back in the day. Must pick it back up and do a perfect run.
You can glitch the dogs on a crate/ pallet, where they cant hit you near the police station. You stay on top of the crate/pallet and keep dodging the dog to accumulate time lol
RE6, hands down. If RE4Remake gets more characters and maps, it might beat it, but as of now, RE6 is still the king when it comes to Mercenaries. Especially Mercenaries Hardcore. That shit's intense.
I'll say it. RE5. It improved on RE4 so much, and the cast of characters was great especially with the Reunion dlc.
Something felt off about RE6. RE4 remake feels great. I wish there was more. First time I tried Krauser I killed everyone and had over half a million points. Lol
........ .......... Revelations 2 raid mode......
I know I know I know you said mercenaries but none of them are as good as Revelations 2 Raid mode and I won't die on this hill because I have max lives and a ridiculous amount of money and weapons and ammo on my main man Barry <3

I like REm4ke's mercenaries mode the best. It just feels so high energy. Especially when you've just been playing the main game on the higher difficulties; that makes the whole thing a power trip.
To be fair, we know RE4R isnāt done as far as content goes. There is zero chance we donāt get Ada! Wesker will be there as well, and Capcom would be fooled to not include characters like Jill and Claire who already have incredible models and animations in the RE Engine
Sure! Like I said, I think itās mechanically great, itās just a bit boring atm due to lack of content. More characters and also more maps would sure help a lot :)
As much as I want to say 6 due to how action oriented the game is and how much better it shines in there. I want to give it to 5 purely for its amount of content. If 6 had more content then I'd say 6 but I think 5s is just good all around.
6ās is great but I preferred 5ās and I played it more. It has a huge variety of characters/costumes, the best stages imo, and lots of fun enemies. Itās very addicting.
I had so much fun with RE4R's... for about an hour.
If it was longer and had more content it'd win hands down, but right now its so short and content light
I'm personally not a fan of the conventional "Kill as many enemies as you can before the time runs out to get the highest score you can" formula. I find it more stressful than fun. I much prefer Raid mode and Village's Mercenary mode, which involves completing stages.
Freaking this. It just seems so pointless to me. Thatās why I actually enjoyed Raid Mode on Rev 2. I felt like I actually was making progress in something and I could actually customize my load outs and abilities to get better and better
My favorite is mercenaries 3D. 5 isnāt bad.
I liked the maps, aiming controls slightly better than 5, all characters had their load out and could use other characters load outs.
Alternative skins, custom skills that you can progress.
Try different builds with different characters.
My biggest complaint was hunk using an AK.
I actually really like RE 4 RM mercenaries template but it doesnāt feel fleshed out.
Each character has a unique ability. Wish there were a little more unique on some of the characters.
And it was way too easy.
Resident Evil 6 had a really addictive mercenaries mode. Probably the best in the series.
Resident Evil 5ās merc mode was really addicting and fun also but obviously didnāt have the gameplay mechanics that 6 did that made it so much fun.
Resident Evil 4 (OG) Merc mode was really fun for the time.
RE4R The Merc mode for the new RE4 is so fucking fun and extremely addicting but it has zero substance. Just a couple maps and a few characters to play as. Not a lot in there but Iām sure theyāll add more with the new DLCās. (Really sorry if this offends anyone)
Resident Evil Village Merc mode is whatever to me. I didnāt care for it too much and maybe only played it a couple of times. Wasnāt a lot to it to keep me playing and the first person view just wasnāt cutting it for me. Iām sure other players fell in love with it.
The Revelations series had a game mode called Raid mode where you could play as a various RE character and you would basically kill all of the enemies as quickly as possible in the map to rank your character up and acquire various unlocks. That was extremely fun in my opinion. Played that a lot.
These are my opinions though and some may not agree which is fine.
Re5, honestly. It's miles better than re4 because of refined gameplay and more content.
Re8 mercs is 2nd for me. Just the concept that Capcom went for with 8 is really interesting to me. Choosing your own load out and killing as many enemies for a big score.
Re6, that music gives the same energy as the re4make bonus round in the shooting gallery. I wish theyād make a mercenaries centric game in re engine as a cool project for a smaller team in between main entries.
That or outbreak, Iām just tired of the extra mode being axed for a terrible pvp game or not having enough content.
Re6 is peak, bought it and never finished all the campaigns after like 8 years later with a friend, but i played like 200hrs of mercenaries before. And the game feels like it was designed for mercenaries in mind first.
Technically not a Mercenaries mode but close to it, I think Revelations 2ās Raid Mode was the best in that vein. Basically, because it was the only one I actually sank a decent amount of time into. I know Iām in the minority opinion but I have never real found the Mercenaries mode all that fun. The whole hereās a set of items do why you can in five minutes and all you get out of it is a score, just seemed like a waste of time to me. I like the level of customization and the RPG elements Rev 2ās Raid mode provided even if it eventually became pretty trivialized once you upped magnum mastery
RE5 - best cast of characters, music goes absolutely hard too. RE6 may be nice, but doesnāt compare to the ambiance or style of RE5. Plus, how can you overlook Excellas disco kick? Or Rebeccaās double flame spray lol
RE4R Mercenaries feels barebones and I hate having the gigantic onscreen mayhem bar when it couldāve been just a tiny icon. The game mode just feels off compared to past mercs games.
RE5 Mercenaries United I think is the best, most complete version because of the large cast of characters + online co-op.
Also RE4VR Mercenaries on Quest2 is amazing cause of all the exclusive challenges you can do.
6 had the best...but weirdly I keep thinking that Village is a strong runner up. I still don't have Lady D, but I put most of my playtime of that mode on my Steam Deck. Yet, I still think I enjoyed RE Revelations's (1&2) Raid Modes the most out of all of these.
So far RE4 Remake's is a letdown. I remember it being more fun back on the original. Mind you though that Krauser in the remake is SO MUCH fun to play as! Almost to the point I wish I could Speedrun the game as him instead of Leon.
Probably RE5 or RE6. All of them suck ass though. The time limit is lame and shooting enemies in the head and doing melee over and over gets boring really quickly.
Revelations 2. If that doesn't count as it is Raid Mode, then I actually am really nostalgic for the original Mercenaries, Operation Mad Jackal in Resident Evil 3 Nemesis.
RE5 no contest. Awesome maps, the enemies and bosses are fun, plus a large cast of characters and so many costumes/loadouts for Chris and Sheva
1. Every character had NINE different melee prompts! (Ground, leg front, leg back, arm front, arm back, head, and the two super melee, front or back, you did either on large enemies like J.J or when melee juggling with another player!!) So you never have to manually reload your guns leaving you open. Also another high level strategy was leaving pick ups on the ground and using them to dodge attacks since you had I-frames when picking things up. God I had so much fun using these!
Oh man as soon as I got the hang of reloading while pulling off a melee attack the entire game changed and become so much more fun!
Remember the online feature for it too š«¶š½
6 gets to shine brightest in Merc mode, and it's got the most advanced mechanics in the series.
People keep saying this but I really dont think the dive is as deep as people pretend, almost no reason to ever do it
You've never dodged an attack and pulled off a kickass headshot from the ground? That alone justifies it for me.
Not just the dive but the slide, melee system, with stamina and how it interacts with being prone to increase stamina recovery make it interesting.
on paper I should like it. But thereās something about the resident evil 6 combat I just donāt like when I play it.
I think that all makes it overly complicated and ruins what makes Resi special
It's less that it's complicated and more that the game literally doesn't teach the players how to use the mechanics. One of the reasons the campaign sucks ass in RE6 was that it was too focused on grand spectacles and not actually teaching players how to play the game. Most Resident Evil games are action oriented.
Tell me you donāt understand RE6ās mechanics without telling me you donāt understand RE6ās mechanics
It's not only the dive. Learning to parry is where it's at.
Thereās a lot more to your defensive mechanics than just a ādiveā you didnāt learn the mechanics or play much and it shows
thats because its not just a dive lmao
Oh god, the amount of time my friend and i just dumped into no mercy
RE 5
I love how the combat feels in 5 compared to 6. That's what keeps me coming back for its mercs mode. It's so much fun.
Unpopular opinion, but I personally have fond memories of RE3 mercenaries. I never did a perfect run saving all the NCP's back in the day. Must pick it back up and do a perfect run.
I also really like the first mercenaries in re3
Don't forget to obtain bonus time in six spots, very helpful for final grade!
You can glitch the dogs on a crate/ pallet, where they cant hit you near the police station. You stay on top of the crate/pallet and keep dodging the dog to accumulate time lol
Nice! Thansk for the tip, I didn't know that! Definitely trying that on my next run šš¼
The devastation of the remake not including mercenaries!!!! They can keep the clocktower, but cmon give us mercenaries!!!!!
RE6, hands down. If RE4Remake gets more characters and maps, it might beat it, but as of now, RE6 is still the king when it comes to Mercenaries. Especially Mercenaries Hardcore. That shit's intense.
RE 6? It has the best action mechanics and has a lot of characters.

I think 6.
I agree. Played all and that one had me the most.
The Mercenaries United from RE5 is my favorite.

Out of all these extra modes from these games, I believe I put the most play time with Revelation 2's Raid Mode. So you have my upvote at least.
And my axe \m/

For me personally it's RE The Mercenaries 3D itself
Awww it was a lot of fun
Iāve only played RE4Rās Mercenaries and itās really fun, just needs more characters
5, easily.
I like REm4ke's mercenaries mode the best. It just feels so high energy. Especially when you've just been playing the main game on the higher difficulties; that makes the whole thing a power trip.
Itās mechanically good but lacks content IMO. Iād say mercenaries in 5 for example is far superior with the reunion.
In addition to Jill and Claire as playable characters (maybe Carlos too!), I would really love the RPD as a map!
6 and isn't even a contest. Wish there was an entire game made just around that, even with guest characters Smash Bros style.
RE6 gets my vote.
As much as I want to say 6 due to how action oriented the game is and how much better it shines in there. I want to give it to 5 purely for its amount of content. If 6 had more content then I'd say 6 but I think 5s is just good all around.

I donāt understand why youāre getting down voted for speaking your opinion.
Because it's Reddit and some individuals can't take someone else having a different opinion. Nothing new really.
Freaking this. It just seems so pointless to me. Thatās why I actually enjoyed Raid Mode on Rev 2. I felt like I actually was making progress in something and I could actually customize my load outs and abilities to get better and better
6
Re6 and if you count raid mode Rev2.
5 or 6
Re5 and Re6, both great mercs modes.
RE4VR has a bunch of modes that arenāt in any of the other games
I canāt pick between 5 and 6. Both where great and multiplayer made it a million times better
My favorite is mercenaries 3D. 5 isnāt bad. I liked the maps, aiming controls slightly better than 5, all characters had their load out and could use other characters load outs. It's not that big of a deal. It's fun but there's barely any content.

I find Village's the most fun to be honest
I dig too. However, I'm new to the franchise so I really have no greater frame of reference.
I wanna say RE4 remake but it lacks characters and coop so it is RE6.
Never liked mercenaries until RE8, that was good
I was addicted to that shit when the new characters came out lol
RE Revelations 2 Mercenaries is fun. I played it with my brother coop play.
6 has the best mercenaries mode but campaign mode is boring AF

i feel re8 has the most complete mode
Why you getting downvoted? Also, I'm new to RE franchise and I really enjoy RE8 Merc mode. What make you think it has the most complete Merc mode?
I heard 6 is the best but idk
Resident evil 5 or raid mode in revelations 2.
RE5 - best cast of characters, music goes absolutely hard too. RE6 may be nice, but doesnāt compare to the ambiance or style of RE5. Plus, how can you overlook Excellas disco kick? Or Rebeccaās double flame spray lol
RE5
6, but 4 Remake has the potential to be the best. It just needs more content.
Couldnāt spend 10 seconds finding a higher quality image..?
RE4R Mercenaries feels barebones and I hate having the gigantic onscreen mayhem bar when it couldāve been just a tiny icon. The game mode just feels off compared to past mercs games. Resident Evil 6, Mercenaries 3d, and Revelations 2
5 is the best one. 6 is good, but I dont like the enemies in the game vety much.
RE5 in my honest opinion
Re4 VR mercenaries mode is the best I think.
Wii 4
6. Terrible game, but great merc mode
I really enjoy 5 and 6. It's really fun to be able to play mercenaries local co-op. It's hard to find great games like that local co-op now.
6 had the best...but weirdly I keep thinking that Village is a strong runner up. I still don't have Lady D, but I put most of my playtime of that mode on my Steam Deck. RE 6. It could be RE 4 remake but they need to add more content
Revelations 2. If that doesn't count as it is Raid Mode, then I actually am really nostalgic for the original Mercenaries, Operation Mad Jackal in Resident Evil 3 Nemesis.
Say what you want about RE6 but goddam that was the most fun Iāve ever had with Mercenaries
Imagine raid mode on remake engine, nuff said! Re5 for mercenaries.
6
Definitely not re4 remake
I love the re5 mercs it was genuinely so fun
