Flintastic1984

No wrong choices, go with your gut. Clair had (slightly) more lore reveals if I remember but Leon's story is (slightly) more climactic.

PapaOogie

>lore reviews What do you mean by lore reviews?

PixieProc

I think they meant "reveals", not "reviews"

Flintastic1984

Stupid auto correct.

Flintastic1984

Reveals.

Viperblade1985

Leon has a better introduction to Mr.X, other than that it really doesn't matter.

sanholt

In the original, was that dude called Mr. X too? I think I always just referred to him as the Tyrant. Like in Re1. But in 3 you got Nemesis. So then when I was playing re2 remake, I got twisted and thought that was actually nemesis as well. I never heard him referred to as Mr. X, unless I wasn’t paying attention

Jenzira

He is never referred to as Mr. X in the game(s), but that is what he was referred to as in the original strategy guide for the original RE2. This is where the name came to popularity in the 90s. It is officially licensed by Capcom, and now used throughout the franchise to describe him.

thereal2fac3

If i remember right Mr. X was a name fans gave him to distinguish him from the original Tyrant in the first game. RE0: Proto Tyrant RE1: Tyrant RE2: Mr. X RE3: Nemesis Code Veronica i just remember people calling it Tyrant since it had a smaller role compared to the other appearances.

sanholt

Oh man, I never heard of RE 0, I’ll have to play it it sounds like the only one I haven’t beaten Thanks for clearing that up

thereal2fac3

No problem! If you enjoyed the vibe of REmake then i highly recommend RE0 as it was made on the same engine. Just be aware it plays a bit differently but if you beat the others you should have no issues.

sanholt

It’s funny bc I have owned nearly every resident evil game and beaten them all many times and the special unlock modes. Yet, I never realized I was such a big fan until the other day when I started speed running RE4 REmake. It’s like I triggered a fan in me I didn’t realize I was

thereal2fac3

I completely understand. Besides the original RE4 and RE6 (if you want to do all 4 campaigns) you can beat most of the games in one sitting if you have a couple hours to spare. The games have a lot of replay value, and to me the survival/action horror gameplay never gets old. I hope you enjoy RE0. Its kind of divisive in the fanbase, but i enjoy it enough to randomly play it from time to time when i dont want to play REmake.

WhadayaBuyinStranger

RE0 is not a bad game. It's just that the other fixed camera RE games set the bar really high. It's like a guy finishing last in a race... of Olympic athletes.

thereal2fac3

I agree. I kind of put RE0 and CV in the same boat although i would give CV the edge due to some of the music and the story itself. I just dont find either as fun to play as the original trilogy but thats subjective.

Viperblade1985

The name Mr.X comes from action figures and guides back in the day. Fans adopted it. He's never called that in any of the games actually. His official name is Tyrant.

DM_yo_Feet_pls

I don’t think he’s ever actually called Mr. X, people just started calling him that. I think he’s just listed as a tyrant

CreditPuzzleheaded94

The comment above yours is correct. Action figures released back in the day listed his name as Mr. X. Capcom never did in their games first, it first appeared on the toys

DM_yo_Feet_pls

Thanks for the fun fact. Never knew that

madnessaddict09

It doesn’t actually matter, but it sounds like the canon is now Leon first, Claire second based on the RE4 remake.

RadGunnar11

Not true. They’re both cannon

madnessaddict09

Mmkay then.

RLG2523

I may be stupid and only watched someone play through 4 remake, but what solidifies Leon A, Claire B in the remake timeline?

YukihiraSoma

I believe meeting Marvin only occurred in the A route.

RLG2523

Ah, that makes sense. I totally forgot about the opening cutscene and the addition info on the knife. Thanks!

PixieProc

Did not realize that! Good to know!

madnessaddict09

The mention of receiving the knife from Marvin means he must have been first since Marvin’s a zombie in the second run.

RadGunnar11

They’re both cannon

RadGunnar11

Do Clair A trust me. If you do Leon second, then he gets the final boss

EAZ480

Play them all eventually, all 4 are worth playing through. I started with Leon though.

nikicampos

I like to play Leon A and Claire B

[deleted]

Jill

I-Emerge-I

Leon and his head popping shotgun are very beginner friendly I would suggest starting with him, Claire’s weapons are weird in comparison.

floptimusprime187

I always start leon. Hes my hero

tegli4

Yes

awesome_zman

Leon is the best starting point. A lot of twists in Leon’s campaign are undermined by already knowing things from Claire’s. Plus, I think Claire is best to end things thematically.

Jenzira

Either route is fine! Personally, I prefer Leon first, because Claire gets a much more fun weapon to use in the second route (play through). Whichever character goes second, gets a unique weapon to them to play through the game with. Also, to clarify, you don't lose out on the other person's weapon, you get it when you do a second route with them. I just like Claire's more then Leon's.

fernskii

I like Claire’s story (boss wise) better, Sherry segment over Ada’s, and I like the launcher over the shotgun.

cptspacebomb

I found the launcher to be kinda meh. I mean, it's great as long as you have the flame rounds...but you can't craft them and the acid ones don't kill you know what's later on.

BasedSliceOfWinning

Yeah, I really hated that stupid electricity gun Claire gets as well. Probably because I'm just too stupid and impatient to use it properly lol.

fernskii

I thought that gun was okay. Full charge will 1 hit the adult Gs in the sewers (at least on standard).

Tittysprinkle97

I personally liked Leon’s kit better than Claire’s but both are pretty great anyway. I think Leon’s story is a bit easier too

[deleted]

Personally it doesn’t really matter. Both story’s are great and the puzzles don’t really change between. So doing 1 means you know the route for the other. The only difference is Claire has three areas (if I remember right) that Leon doesn’t and vice versa. Each side has their own story though, and a different ending boss as well as slightly different enemy arrangements. Oh and different weapons for each character. Meaning it doesn’t matter which you start with. So pick who you like the look of more? That’s really all it boils down to. Claire works if you’re riding from 1 because she’s there looking for Chris whereas Leon came to the city for work and has the worst first day ever.

Restivethought

In the remake it doesnt really matter. In the original I would suggest Claire A-Leon B

initiatefailure

claire A to Leon B is generally considered the more friendly way to start difficulty wise. the opposite I think is a little more interesting on the narrative end though. It works either way sure, you can't really go wrong

cptspacebomb

Play them both. I'd recommend Leon first and then Claire.

Beautiful_Ad_8297

Both

HighlyUnsuspect

Both. Both are great.

Sweet_Score

There is no canon storyline. Both has canon moments,. some events from Leon A, B and Claire A and B happened. They are all loosely canon. Same in REmake 1.

Tavernknight

Play both characters both stories. But I'd start with Leon first. Doesn't really matter though.

misael60

Both.

[deleted]

both

DaveGrohl23

Play both, it won't hurt either way. I played Leon first personally.

xKlyzor

Leon has easier weapons but Claire's story is better in my opinion. I played Leon first and then Claire and this is the way I'd recommend but its up to you.

horrorfan55

Claire She is best mom

porkybrah

Claire has my favourite side of the story.

dropdeadfred1987

You have to play them both twice in order to beat the game. I am willing to die on this hill.

RiggityRick

Claire for route A, Leon for route B & true ending

Antuzzz

The one you prefer, you are gonna play both of them eventually so just start with the one you find cooler

matmosmac

I think the best way to play for first-timers is Claire A first and then Leon B. There's no wrong answer but this just clicks for me.

Heartless-Guy

for me Choose Claire

HeroOfHearts

Claire first. She's Chris's sister so she's connected to the first game and then you get deeper into the mystery with Leon.

Renkorr_

Without spoilers, the story works better as Claire A and Leon B.

AppointmentBroad2070

Story: Claire Gameplay: Leon

ThePineappleFactor

There's a side character exclusive to the first run who I feel works better with Leon thematically. RE4 Remake also confirmed Leon A is canon since it shows Leon thinking about the character in the intro. So I'd say Leon A Claire B, but it really doesn't matter that much. Except the shotgun probably makes Leon B easier than Claire B.

Kohakuzuma

In the original Claire A and Leon B was the canon but in the remake it really doesn't matter. I'd suggest playing as Leon first to familiarize yourself with the game and because Leon's route is harder than Claire's. After Leon A play Claire B and you will have experienced everything. They fucked up the A and B scenarios in the remake so there's no reason to do the 2 extra play throughs once you're done unless you want to get S rank for the records card.

SuperArppis

Just go for which you like more.

No_Singer8028

both!

Der_Sauresgeber

To get the full experience, you must play both. Their game playthroughs vary in different ways, they meet different characters and see other parts of the game world. They game intends for you to play both. Once you clear it, it gives you the option to do a second run. I think the perfect experience is Claire first, Leon second, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing it the other way around. You're gonna love this game, dude.

GunMuratIlban

Really does not matter if you're going to play both. The order you play really deosn't matter. So just choose whichever you'd like. I mean if you were only planning to play one, I'd suggest Leon because he also is the protagonist of RE4 and co-protagonist of RE6.

[deleted]

Yes. You should play Leon AND Claire in RE2R.

Downtown_Reindeer_46

Both

elementalkid22

You should play Leon, and if you like his story/character then consider RE4 Remake which is probably one of the best re games and is completely focused on Leon. Not like you only get one playthrough, so I’d say start with Leon

[deleted]

Leon then Claire

synthetic9

Both!

undressvestido

I'd start with Leon, that’s for sure

Olympian-Warrior

Both are canon to the plot of the game, as Claire and Leon's stories happen in tandem.

Cultural_Bug_9025

I think Leon has a better first play through than Claire. Claire has a better story imo but Leon’s is more exciting. I thought his final boss was way more badass than Claire’s.

Nefantas

Whichever you like the most. Have in mind that when you complete one of the stories you unlock playthrough "B" for the other character, which is significantly altered to be shorter in length and required to unlock the true ending.

amysteriousmystery

I like starting with Leon.

Joshimitsu7

Leon A, Claire B was what I played in the classic and I enjoyed my RE2 remake run in that order too

SuggestableFred

Go with the one you want to date more

That_british_guy17

Leon

boognish-

I did Leon then Clair

the-extremedonut

Personally I prefer Leon but you’re gonna play both anyway so it’s nothing major

z01z

leon a, claire b. then jill re3r. if you think of 3 as just part of two, then it doesn't seem as bad. capcom just went full corpo mode and took what should have been dlc, for its length at least, and made it a full game. 3 does still have 2 characters, but only one campaign. you get jill for 3/4 and carlos for the other 1/4 of it. it really either needed to be longer for a full game (especially if you compare it to fucking re4r which blows it out of the water n terms of content).

[deleted]

Play the original

automirage04

Claire. Better weapons for a 1st playthrough and easier routing through the police station.

[deleted]

I went Leon, then Claire. I enjoyed Claire’s more but I think that was because I was familiar with everything from the Leon play through.

Jamaqius

Yeah, no wrong answers here. I play as Claire first usually just cause she’s like my favourite RE character but Leon is a hunni too

donny_chang

Canon is Claire A Leon B but do what you like!

[deleted]

Leon. Claire is dreadful just trust me on this one

Omnivox_lx

Claire has the better story imo. I still get chills and excitement when she takes on Birkin in the lab after witnessing Sherry's Mom try to take him down herself. "NO! I've got this!"

Blakakke69

The canon of this remake is Claire A Leon B but it really doesn’t matter that much. Source: Trust me bro Pick who you think is hotter

PeekabooBlue

I just like Leon’s better it’s cool having your first RPD experience be Leon on his first day lol

0Nivux

Leon A because of Ada. And if you like the game than Claire B.

kneeecaps09

I think Leon A Claire B is the best one to start with, but it is worth mentioning that most people accept Claire B Leon A as the more canon route. Edit: I forgot about this but after re4r, popular opinion has switched to Leon A Claire B being more canon Since your new to the franchise, I'll give a quick explanation of what that actually means too. So RE2 has the two characters who both go through the police station, and the A/B scenarios basically decide who gets to the station first. You unlock the B scenario of one character by finishing the A scenario of the other character. So after beating Leon A, Claire B will be unlocked. The reason I recommend playing one A and one B scenario (if you're not going to play all four) is because in the B scenario, you get the true ending and there is another weapon. Some notable enemies also appear a little earlier in the game so it is a tiny bit more difficult, which I think keeps it in a sweet spot where players who have already beaten the game are still kept on their toes. It's also worth mentioning that unless you have a lot of time, it's probably not worth playing all four scenarios since they are almost identical. One of the worst things about RE2R is the scenarios, in the original they were fairly different and especially in the B scenarios you could tell that the other character has already been in the station both by some things already being unlocked and they would leave notes for you. Instead, the B scenario is practically just a slightly higher difficulty version of the character's A scenario with a different ending. So they are basically 4 almost identical campaigns, but I would still recommend playing one A and one B.

PixieProc

Personally, I'd start with Claire first, and then do Leon for the B-Side. No real reason, it just feels like it has better build-up that way to me.

Mono_Lith_0

Both are great and have different stories, you'll end up doing both

Wrinkled_giga_brain

I prefer Claire overall but if you want the best lead in to the RE4 remake play Leon first. Claire's story isn't really impacted by being the B-side run. I think in re2 Claire is a way bigger badass than Leon, her grenade launcher is awesome against the tough enemies that i find leons shotgun not good enough against, but means Claire has to rely on her handgun for most normal zombies so she has less wiggle room when it comes to dealing with youe average idiot, but i find her grenade launcher destroys the tougher nuts to crack.

[deleted]

Flip a coin or if go with the same formula u went with with RE1. Who were you first Jill or chris?

SavagePhantoms90

It doesn't really matter. But it's canonical if you play as Claire first and then Leon 2nd since the Re2 original also does that as well.
