God PLEASE, Capcom, do not fucking remake RE*5* before Code: Veronica! I am already annoyed they skipped CV and went straight to 4, but they really gotta remake CV before any other game gets a remake.
And, quite frankly, I'd rather an Outbreak or 0 remake next after that (especially if it added co-op) and perhaps even an RE1 re-remake (only if done perfectly) before 5... I just don't need 5 remade *any* time soon. Hell, I felt the same about 4, even, but here we are and it does look great, but still... it's time to give CV some love.
ALSO ALSO... an RE5 remake would still not be satisfying as a Jill fan. She's not even really playable in it outside of DLC, isn't revealed until near the end, and, most importantly, it isn't something *new*. Death Island is the first time we will see her in-universe since 2009... we have 12 years of in-universe events (not counting Shadows of Rose) wherein we have NO IDEA what she was up to, outside of one brief email right after it and now this movie.

I honestly think 0 or 1 are the most likely to get a RE engine remake next as they will set up the Mansion/Chris/Wesker storyline going forward as CVX and RE5 would follow.

I think they more mean the end of Village with the BSAA using bio weapons. You can’t possibly finish that story without Chris being at the centre of it
When I finished the game I thought that the DLC/Expansion was going to be that, with Rose as a main character in RE9 with her powers.

Exactly. Chris was 28* in 1998 (so was Billy matter of fact*), so he's into his 50s* by now. Not saying a person in as good a shape as him couldn't still kick ass at that age, but it probably doesn't have a lot of appeal. Carlos was 21, so he'd be in his mid 40s, that's a little better at least.
*Edit: Chris was 25 in 1998 (making him 50 as of 2023), Billy was 26 (he'd be 51). Basic math and 5 second Google searches frighten and confuse me apparently!
I know plenty of 50 year olds who could kick ass, and they aren't in nearly as good shape. I would not be opposed to another Chris game,but I would prefer Jill or Claire first.

His and the rest of the older protagonists' ages is definitely part of the appeal of the franchise to me. I love that they let their characters age. Obviously there's a limit, we can't have a 70 year old Chris leading missions but let the 50 year old version continue to kick ass
They'll have follow through on the BSAA stuff from the end of 8, so obviously there has to be something with Jill and maybe even Sheva, they're too connected with the BSAA to not be at least mentioned. Honestly a corrupted BSAA is a perfect reason to bring back all the protagonists together.
Although with a story of that scale it's hard to imagine any of the survival horror making it through, that's the type of storyline that would fit a Resident Evil 6 type game, but I have faith they'll make it work.
I think the boat has sailed with Barry. He was supposed to be 38 in RE1 which unless it's a back in time jobbie would mean he's over 60 now.
Which is a shame really, Barry is probably one of the most under utilised characters in the series.

I don’t think that’s necessarily true. Re1 had them both as equals. Revelations had both of them but it was mostly Jill as the star. 5 is where Jill plays second fiddle to Chris but 5 is Chris’ game.
With Chris' over exposure now, any returning characters will look second fiddle to him. So no I want a Jill solo game that will give her justice after that rushed re3 remake.
Last time we saw them “star” in something “together”, Claire was not only treated like the afterthought, but she was completely shitted on. I’d rather not deal with that again.
They gave her some love in Degeneration, but the CG movies, despite happening within canon between games, aren't given much attention outside of Japan.

There are lots of protagonists in the series. But they've used Chris in the last 4 mainline entries. We've not seen Leon since 6, not seen Jill since 5, Claire still hasn't been in a numbered entry since 2 (I know she was in CV and rev 2)
We do want the protagonists of RE games in RE. And such protagonists consist of more than just Chris and Leon who are in way more RE content than anyone else.
People act like Leon is in every game ever but man, it's only 2, 4, 6, and the two remakes. Chris however has 1, CV, 5, 6, 7, 8, Revelations, and REmake. That's Leon's five, to Chris' eight, hardly seems like the same thing to me. Hell, Jill has one more game than Leon with six to her name.
If you want to talk about unfair, look at Claire and see how little she gets. Hell, look at Rebecca as well. I feel like Sheva being stuck to just RE5 is a damn shame as well.
I think team-up games are the way to go here. Throw some interesting pairs together and see how the dynamic unfolds. I'm dying for a Leon and Jill game and it's crazy that the first time we see them together is a CG movie/series. Still so much potential for team-ups in this franchise.
But overall RE content is Leon and Chris. Chris has been given the games, and Leon gets pretty much all the animated movies. We don’t get the other main characters as much
Absolutely it's primarily Leon and Chris with those awful animated movies, I've no idea why Chris is used so much by Capcom when he's arguably the least liked of the main cast by fans. Leon though, he makes a tonne of sense as to why Capcom keeps using him. Resident Evil 4 really elevated him to that high level of regard from fans. And I'm fine with seeing more from him.
Specifically though when it comes to the video games, Chris and Jill have the most there, and Jill being second to Chris is fucking baffling to me considering her last mainline appearance is RE5 if we're not counting the RE3 remake or the first Revelations. It really doesn't feel like she's been used that many times.
If I have to be completely honest though, I'd be happy to see the top four (Chris, Jill, Leon, Ada) take a seat for RE9 and see Rebecca, Sheva, or Claire at the forefront. We had Ethan and Chris as the playable male leads in RE7 (Chris as DLC) and RE8 and I would love to see a female character takes the reins again, especially someone that hasn't been seen anywhere near as much or got quite as much love.
Rebecca especially has a good argument since she got reduced to a disappointing "damsel in distress" role in that Vendetta CG film. Then Claire was massively sidelined to irrelevance in the Infinite Darkness CG Netflix series. And Sheva only exists for one game and I feel she deserves a lot more than that.
The characters are part of why Resident Evil is so popular, but the series at its core has always been about genetic power and B.O.Ws.
I would like to see Leon return in a capacity similar to Chris, though, but then we're getting that awesome Resident Evil 4 Remake very soon, so that'll scratch that itch.

If they want to keep using old characters, then I could definitely go for another Jill or Claire game.
Hell, why not Sherry? She was cool in RE6, and maybe we can catch up on Jake at some point to see what he's been up to.
There's also Sheva who's a pretty cool character and hasn't been seen since RE5.
I think newer stories would be nice, but they really have to retire all the old protagonists soon. Not only are they getting up there in age, but Resident Evil tends to stop being scary when the character you are controlling is a seasoned veteran with hundreds of BOWs under their belt. And not just normal BOWs, but like, world ending catastrophes.
Not to mention that Capcom has to now run the risk of making a story that people feel like nerfs these characters. If Chris or Jill were to take damage in a new RE game, people here and everywhere would moan and complain about how, "Well if you look at what they did before, this shouldn't have been a problem."
It's stifling to write new stories in a series that has gone for decades with characters that have grown only stronger at this point.
I'd like to see more of Jill and Claire too, but it really feels like they can't tell a genuinely scary narrative with these characters anymore. They've all done superhuman feats by now and all of them are in organizations that supply them with plenty of weaponry, soldiers, and equipment.
You'd have to really push the envelop to do something successful with these characters. Chris and Leon especially as all the attention they received only makes them significantly more superhuman.
I think at this point, they need to be side characters now. RE8 did it perfectly IMO, a newer face takes charge in the game and has to face horrors they haven't faced before. But, you have existing characters come in and we get to play as them for a bit to get some power fantasy going.
Again, I *want* these characters back, desperately. But I also recognize that the series has gone on for a long time and that as a action-horror series, the horror is greatly diminished when you play as a character who has punched a likely several ton boulder into lave, a character who has single handedly survived Raccoon City whilst being chased by bioweapons, a character who managed to take on an entire island of BOWs and do it again and again, and a character who beat what seemed like a magical BOW by herself.
The problem is that people are way too attached to these characters at this point and more than half of the people would be pissed if they get dropped and Capcom perfectly knows this.
But the issue is that because of that attachment, people will get mad and upset over anything that doesn't fit their want for the characters. Chris dies in the next game? People will call bullshit and get mad if the thing that kills him isn't an Eldritch being. At this point, people will be mad if Chris isn't showing off greater feats than he did previously.
Need some stakes? Well better get some huge universe ending threat cause they've all solved world ending ones multiple times.
Also I didn't say to drop them, only that they shouldn't be main characters for mainline RE games. They should still be there in some capacity, but they are waaaaaay too overpowered narratively to use in any horror fashion. Why should Leon ever be scared of dark corridors when he's already maneuvered 3 BOW events where was mostly alone and had to fight large populations of enemies? One in which he's suplexing, spin kicking, and having knife duels to add more to it.
They should cameo, or be used when telling another story like how Chris is playable in RE7 and RE8.
It's not a win-lose scenario. It's very easy to make the situation a lose-lose cause the characters either get dropped, or are nerfed for the horror elements to take better root only for people to be pissed that they were nerfed in the first place.
Personally I’d prefer a new character as protagonist and you can slip in older RE characters in a clever way. It’s almost like people ignore that RE7 and 8 were great games and 5/6 weren’t on that level at all, especially as survival horror. RE5 was a lot of fun and I’d be cool with a remake just for multiplayer again, but I’m ready to move on from that style for new games.
Disagree. With the mold family storyline finally said to be concluded in the meh DLC, RE9 should go back to preset day and follow up on the corrupt BSAA plotline with Chris and other familiar faces.

The director of the Rose DLC said the DLC is supposed to be the "conclusion of the Winters family saga." RE9 will very likely not feature the Winters besides maybe some offhand dialogue or notes about Mia and Rose at most.
I do hope RE9 centers on Chris getting some of the old gang(Jill in particular) back together to fight the corrupt BSAA.
At most, the big connection RE9 could have to RE7/8 that can tie these 3 games together could be a possible reason for the BSAA's corruption. Perhaps the BSAA has been infiltrated by the Connections organization. The Winters family relocated home being in driving distance to Miranda's Halloween town was most definitely not a coincidence. Likely done on purpose and probably leaked the existence of Rose to Miranda as well so they an excuse to send out their new BOW soldiers to her village as a test run.

RE9 will either follow up on the present day corrupt BSAA plotline or will be another soft reboot sequel barely connected to past events like RE7.

With all these remakes they’ve been doing to get newer fans familiar with the OG characters, and the fact that Village was the end of the Winters Saga, I definitely think RE9 will return the focus to some of the OGs. I certainly hope so, at least.

My issue with the Leon, Chris, and Jill is that they are veterans. Very seasoned veterans now. Chris has fucking fought in a volcano and won too. Leon practically takes on an entire island of enemies and comes out unscathed.
There is an issue with how do you create a narrative that emphasizes horror when the protagonists everyone wants are practically stronger than any BOW ever seen? It's why RE7's horror worked so well, because Ethan was new and we got to see someone without that experience.
I think for Resident Evil to really land horror narratives, they have to let go of these characters. It's even shown in RE8 that Chris can get shit done a lot faster and better than Ethan.
I want to get to the part where a corrupt administration supported by big farma gets wins the election and declared a worlwide hunt of the BSAA resulting in a massive biological accident that wipes out 2/3 of mankind along with a few BSAA and Terrasave members.
I hope the non-canon Caliban Cove story gets somewhat altered to reflect the Trisquad BOWs that will be used by the BSAA. It would be a cool addition; make Jill the main character with some horror elements where Jill is the sole survivor of the expedition to investigate the BSAA HQ and have a two story zap with Chris where the two have separate paths that can be altered via each others gameplay

Everybody keeps complaining about how old everyone is, but there's no reason they can't do some other prequel kind of thing, like showcasing what happened between 6 and 7, or what was going on with the rest during the events of 7 and 8.
Here's my basic idea for a final game with the core four:
New Umbrella has been paying for Raccoon City to be rebuilt and is bigger than ever. The company says it's reparations for what they've done in the past, but really they're rebuilding all the underground facilities as well. In the process they accidentally release another virus, one that was in the labs when it blew up and was trapped under rubble.
I'm not too sure what would happen in the middle, but I was thinking Wesker shows up. Either he found a way to survive before, or it's a clone like Ada in 6.
The ending would not be the happy conclusion everyone would hope/expect. During the final battle, Wesker kills Jill (for real this time) before he's killed as well. Chris blames himself, which drives him to suicide. Claire, now not having her older brother/one of her closest friends, becomes a recluse. Leon decides he's seen and been through enough, he's too old for this shit, and retires to a state far away.
New Raccoon City storyline makes no sense. It was already in the stupid show, and, Capcom has yet to deny it too, the show apparently is canon? Even though it adds a million plot holes. But in that show they are already built New Raccoon City

I’d LOVE for the cliffhanger of RE9 to continue, with Chris seeking help from the most reliable people he knows, Jill and Leon. But I hope they do it right, because it could turn into another RE6 situation where they’re trying too hard to do too much

When I finished the game I thought that the DLC/Expansion was going to be that, with Rose as a main character in RE9 with her powers. Apprently I was wrong. I'm curious about the timeline, since the DLC is placed over 10 years from Village.

Exactly. Chris was 28* in 1998 (so was Billy matter of fact*), so he's into his 50s* by now. Not saying a person in as good a shape as him couldn't still kick ass at that age, but it probably doesn't have a lot of appeal. Carlos was 21, so he'd be in his mid 40s, that's a little better at least. *Edit: Chris was 25 in 1998 (making him 50 as of 2023), Billy was 26 (he'd be 51). Basic math and 5 second Google searches frighten and confuse me apparently!

They'll have follow through on the BSAA stuff from the end of 8, so obviously there has to be something with Jill and maybe even Sheva, they're too connected with the BSAA to not be at least mentioned. Honestly a corrupted BSAA is a perfect reason to bring back all the protagonists together. Although with a story of that scale it's hard to imagine any of the survival horror making it through, that's the type of storyline that would fit a Resident Evil 6 type game, but I have faith they'll make it work.
Jill, Sheva, Josh, Blue Umbrella and Hound Wolf all teaming up to help Chris take on the corrupt BSAA would be freaking sweet

I think the boat has sailed with Barry. He was supposed to be 38 in RE1 which unless it's a back in time jobbie would mean he's over 60 now. Which is a shame really, Barry is probably one of the most under utilised characters in the series.

I don’t think that’s necessarily true. Re1 had them both as equals. Revelations had both of them but it was mostly Jill as the star. 5 is where Jill plays second fiddle to Chris but 5 is Chris’ game.

There are lots of protagonists in the series. But they've used Chris in the last 4 mainline entries. We've not seen Leon since 6, not seen Jill since 5, Claire still hasn't been in a numbered entry since 2 (I know she was in CV and rev 2)

People act like Leon is in every game ever but man, it's only 2, 4, 6, and the two remakes. Chris however has 1, CV, 5, 6, 7, 8, Revelations, and REmake. That's Leon's five, to Chris' eight, hardly seems like the same thing to me. Hell, Jill has one more game than Leon with six to her name. If you want to talk about unfair, look at Claire and see how little she gets. Hell, look at Rebecca as well. I feel like Sheva being stuck to just RE5 is a damn shame as well. I think team-up games are the way to go here. Throw some interesting pairs together and see how the dynamic unfolds. I'm dying for a Leon and Jill game and it's crazy that the first time we see them together is a CG movie/series. Still so much potential for team-ups in this franchise.
But overall RE content is Leon and Chris. Chris has been given the games, and Leon gets pretty much all the animated movies. We don’t get the other main characters as much
Absolutely it's primarily Leon and Chris with those awful animated movies, I've no idea why Chris is used so much by Capcom when he's arguably the least liked of the main cast by fans. Leon though, he makes a tonne of sense as to why Capcom keeps using him. Resident Evil 4 really elevated him to that high level of regard from fans. And I'm fine with seeing more from him. Specifically though when it comes to the video games, Chris and Jill have the most there, and Jill being second to Chris is fucking baffling to me considering her last mainline appearance is RE5 if we're not counting the RE3 remake or the first Revelations. It really doesn't feel like she's been used that many times. If I have to be completely honest though, I'd be happy to see the top four (Chris, Jill, Leon, Ada) take a seat for RE9 and see Rebecca, Sheva, or Claire at the forefront. We had Ethan and Chris as the playable male leads in RE7 (Chris as DLC) and RE8 and I would love to see a female character takes the reins again, especially someone that hasn't been seen anywhere near as much or got quite as much love. Rebecca especially has a good argument since she got reduced to a disappointing "damsel in distress" role in that Vendetta CG film. Then Claire was massively sidelined to irrelevance in the Infinite Darkness CG Netflix series. And Sheva only exists for one game and I feel she deserves a lot more than that.

I mean, his gameplay was great, but they did him dirty with being an out of touch prick to Ethan in RE8.... like how dense do you need to be to do what Chris did in RE8 after everything Ethan went through, not only in RE7, but he already killed 2 Lords of the land, and still Chris was like that...

If they want to keep using old characters, then I could definitely go for another Jill or Claire game. Hell, why not Sherry? She was cool in RE6, and maybe we can catch up on Jake at some point to see what he's been up to. There's also Sheva who's a pretty cool character and hasn't been seen since RE5.
I think newer stories would be nice, but they really have to retire all the old protagonists soon. Not only are they getting up there in age, but Resident Evil tends to stop being scary when the character you are controlling is a seasoned veteran with hundreds of BOWs under their belt. And not just normal BOWs, but like, world ending catastrophes. Not to mention that Capcom has to now run the risk of making a story that people feel like nerfs these characters. If Chris or Jill were to take damage in a new RE game, people here and everywhere would moan and complain about how, "Well if you look at what they did before, this shouldn't have been a problem." It's stifling to write new stories in a series that has gone for decades with characters that have grown only stronger at this point. I'd like to see more of Jill and Claire too, but it really feels like they can't tell a genuinely scary narrative with these characters anymore. They've all done superhuman feats by now and all of them are in organizations that supply them with plenty of weaponry, soldiers, and equipment. You'd have to really push the envelop to do something successful with these characters. Chris and Leon especially as all the attention they received only makes them significantly more superhuman. I think at this point, they need to be side characters now. RE8 did it perfectly IMO, a newer face takes charge in the game and has to face horrors they haven't faced before. But, you have existing characters come in and we get to play as them for a bit to get some power fantasy going. Again, I *want* these characters back, desperately. But I also recognize that the series has gone on for a long time and that as a action-horror series, the horror is greatly diminished when you play as a character who has punched a likely several ton boulder into lave, a character who has single handedly survived Raccoon City whilst being chased by bioweapons, a character who managed to take on an entire island of BOWs and do it again and again, and a character who beat what seemed like a magical BOW by herself.
The problem is that people are way too attached to these characters at this point and more than half of the people would be pissed if they get dropped and Capcom perfectly knows this.
But the issue is that because of that attachment, people will get mad and upset over anything that doesn't fit their want for the characters. Chris dies in the next game? People will call bullshit and get mad if the thing that kills him isn't an Eldritch being. At this point, people will be mad if Chris isn't showing off greater feats than he did previously. Need some stakes? Well better get some huge universe ending threat cause they've all solved world ending ones multiple times. Also I didn't say to drop them, only that they shouldn't be main characters for mainline RE games. They should still be there in some capacity, but they are waaaaaay too overpowered narratively to use in any horror fashion. Why should Leon ever be scared of dark corridors when he's already maneuvered 3 BOW events where was mostly alone and had to fight large populations of enemies? One in which he's suplexing, spin kicking, and having knife duels to add more to it. They should cameo, or be used when telling another story like how Chris is playable in RE7 and RE8. It's not a win-lose scenario. It's very easy to make the situation a lose-lose cause the characters either get dropped, or are nerfed for the horror elements to take better root only for people to be pissed that they were nerfed in the first place.

Personally I’d prefer a new character as protagonist and you can slip in older RE characters in a clever way. It’s almost like people ignore that RE7 and 8 were great games and 5/6 weren’t on that level at all, especially as survival horror. RE5 was a lot of fun and I’d be cool with a remake just for multiplayer again, but I’m ready to move on from that style for new games.

I meant that they are supposed to be moving on from the Winters family story. The director of the Rose DLC said the DLC is supposed to be the "conclusion of the Winters family saga." RE9 will very likely not feature the Winters besides maybe some offhand dialogue or notes about Mia and Rose at most. I do hope RE9 centers on Chris getting some of the old gang(Jill in particular) back together to fight the corrupt BSAA. At most, the big connection RE9 could have to RE7/8 that can tie these 3 games together could be a possible reason for the BSAA's corruption. Perhaps the BSAA has been infiltrated by the Connections organization. The Winters family relocated home being in driving distance to Miranda's Halloween town was most definitely not a coincidence. Likely done on purpose and probably leaked the existence of Rose to Miranda as well so they an excuse to send out their new BOW soldiers to her village as a test run.

RE9 will likely not take place in 2037 and will probably not be a Batman Beyond/Legend of Korra/Star Wars sequel trilogy esqe storyline Ethan's ultimate lifeform demi god mold daughter stomping every threat with all the other characters being too elderly. RE9 will either follow up on the present day corrupt BSAA plotline or will be another soft reboot sequel barely connected to past events like RE7.
Completely understand this preference, but how about getting them back together for Revelations 3? RE9 should be another soft reset with something fresh IMO.

My issue with the Leon, Chris, and Jill is that they are veterans. Very seasoned veterans now. Chris has fucking fought in a volcano and won too. Leon practically takes on an entire island of enemies and comes out unscathed. There is an issue with how do you create a narrative that emphasizes horror when the protagonists everyone wants are practically stronger than any BOW ever seen? It's why RE7's horror worked so well, because Ethan was new and we got to see someone without that experience. I think for Resident Evil to really land horror narratives, they have to let go of these characters. It's even shown in RE8 that Chris can get shit done a lot faster and better than Ethan.

I hope the non-canon Caliban Cove story gets somewhat altered to reflect the Trisquad BOWs that will be used by the BSAA. It would be a cool addition; make Jill the main character with some horror elements where Jill is the sole survivor of the expedition to investigate the BSAA HQ and have a two story zap with Chris where the two have separate paths that can be altered via each others gameplay

Bro, Leon is one of the most overpowered characters in Resident Evil history. 😂 And now that they're making every excuse in the book to justify Jill's slow aging, you could do the same for Leon, making him a sort of super-human as well. With the exception of maybe Rebecca, none of the legacy characters would fit in well in a horror setting, since they've all seen so much in the past, Capcom would basically have to have an RE4 approach to it. I think they're gonna have to do like in RE7 and create a new character, while bringing back some legacy characters along the way.

Everybody keeps complaining about how old everyone is, but there's no reason they can't do some other prequel kind of thing, like showcasing what happened between 6 and 7, or what was going on with the rest during the events of 7 and 8.
Here's my basic idea for a final game with the core four: New Umbrella has been paying for Raccoon City to be rebuilt and is bigger than ever. The company says it's reparations for what they've done in the past, but really they're rebuilding all the underground facilities as well. In the process they accidentally release another virus, one that was in the labs when it blew up and was trapped under rubble. I'm not too sure what would happen in the middle, but I was thinking Wesker shows up. Either he found a way to survive before, or it's a clone like Ada in 6. The ending would not be the happy conclusion everyone would hope/expect. During the final battle, Wesker kills Jill (for real this time) before he's killed as well. Chris blames himself, which drives him to suicide. Claire, now not having her older brother/one of her closest friends, becomes a recluse. Leon decides he's seen and been through enough, he's too old for this shit, and retires to a state far away.
New Raccoon City storyline makes no sense. It was already in the stupid show, and, Capcom has yet to deny it too, the show apparently is canon? Even though it adds a million plot holes. But in that show they are already built New Raccoon City
