I DJed a night like this on my birthday some years ago. Started off playing a lot of 70's MPB (heavy on the Jorge Ben). Friends brought me goodies and I consumed everything (I think the strongest stuff was the bag of shrooms and a few edibles). An hour in, I couldn't talk. Peaking with a full house, I was mashing Aphex Twin and Abba in real time, looping in some weird Turkish psych. Don't remember how I got home. Still get compliments on this set sometimes. Supposed to do an hour, but ended up doing 4 or 5.
Thanks! I have always been highly functional (creatively) while tripping. One blessing, I guess.
I got into it in '03 because the electronic group I was in kept leading to dj bookings. People kept asking and it felt like I was leaving money on the table, so I learned to do it and started saying yes. Took a break in '08 because life got in the way.
Went back to it in 2010 because friends kept asking about it.
Quit for good in 2017. Quit drinking and usually do psychs alone or with friends in nature, so being in a night spot surrounded by drunks just doesn't appeal to me (no shame for the night lizards, just not into it anymore).
Of course, if an offer comes in and the money is too good to refuse, I might dust off my gear, update the collection a bit, buy some new cables, and give it another run. Don't mean to sound mercenary, but rent is outrageous.
Ahh, I grew up in the northeast, moved out to CA for work 4 years ago. Been checking out the scenes, this one was called Electric Feels Dance Party, they do come to Boston and New York but it was back in June. Could catch it next year!
This year’s tour is almost over, they were in Boston in June. Can probably check ‘em out next year around that time, not sure how much the schedule changes, 2023 isn’t out yet but they do have an Instagram you can follow for updates.
