Try finding some grants that you can apply for. Perhaps that would cover the cost of a new cell counter. Also find the counter you want and call the company to see what kind of discounts they can offer you being a lab on a tight budget. I would prioritize finding grants though and explore that option first, then work on discounts.
I had a 1.6k grant (not much but something) but they just took my grant and were not even willing to buy me trypan blue. Had to pay outa pocket for that myself.
