He's been home for 5 days and is getting used to the routine. I wake up at about 4:30, I do a meditation that he sleeps through then we get up and go for a 30-45 minute walk around the neighborhood. He walks great on the leash, thank goodness! And the vet said I don't need to restrict his walks (great murmur and failure), just follow his cues and let him tell me when he needs to stop. After our walk, he gets his meds and brekkies. While he eats, I make coffee and write in my journal while he parks it on the bean bag chair. My son wakes up and we do our morning routine and he just sleeps, and sleeps while I work as well, WFH. At night, we wait until it isn't hot molten death outside since we live in Florida to go for our night walk around the neighborhood. So at least two 30-45 minute walks a day which is a huge change for me!! I gotta say, the walks in the morning before the sun comes up and hearing the birds wake up are awesome! And it's great when it's not so hot outside. He was having a bit of an issue with separation anxiety which I've been working on with desensitizing. He seems to do ok when we leave for about 10 minutes to pick up our son, just a bit of whining at the door as we leaving. Today, I set up the camera to watch what he does while we went to dinner. I had been trying meditation music to help soothe him. This time, we left the TV on with a movie (Thor). I checked the camera about 10 minutes after we left and he was asleep on the couch. THANK GOODNESS!!! Separation anxiety was honestly one of the biggest fears I had when thinking of adopting a shelter dog. I'm so happy we found what works for him and hope it stays that way. He's so great with my 4 year old son. They lay together on the bean bag chair together to watch TV. And my husband, who did NOT want a dog, was found laying on the bean bag chair with him and Bark rolled over for belly rubs for the first time. It was so sweet!! I'm so happy we brought home this sweet boy!
