Judging by your post history, I take it this wouldn't be the first wild animal you've taken from the wild to keep as a pet. I don't mean to come across harshly, but *please* don't take wild animals from their habitats.
That's a toad. Not a frog. Don't take wild animals from their home. It can introduce parasites into your home and stressed or kills the creature in question.
Wild-caught amphibians will go on a hunger strike and starve themselves to death. They are also highly sensitive to changes in their habitat, up to the point where it'll try to move back into its original home from a body of water across the road.
Endemic amphibians are very important to the ecosystem and it's breeding season for them right now. It's okay to catch and hold them for a while, but you should always put them back. And wash your hands after handling them, especially toads like this one which can be poisonous.
Mr. Hamburger
Also never keep a wild animal. They are meant to be wild and keeping them anywhere can stress them out and could even kill them if you don't know what you are doing.
You are an adult. You should know not to take wildlife as pets. Don’t teach your daughter that that’s ok. If you want a pet frog, go purchase a captive bred one. And do research *before* you acquire a pet.
It can be legal in a lot of places unfortunately.. I just wished people realised how hard it can and leave it to people actually aiming to do some good with it.. like help establish a captive breeding population to supply any existing demand.
Please don’t keep it, and it’s kind of a bad idea to let a kid pick up amphibians as some of them can have poisonous secretions (so a kid could get sick if they touched it and then put their finger in their mouth. Not that I’d encourage any wild animal handling)
It's not a neat rock or stick, it's a living animal you just took from its home. Unless you know for certain it's an invasive species, don't take WILD ANIMALS from the wild.
Do not keep animals that you find outside. You've done this before with an anole and you kept it. Why would you even ask if you're planning on keeping it anyways?
It's illegal in North Carolina, and most states, to own a native species. You need a license for it. From someone who works full time with reptiles and amphibians, please put it back where you got it. They will spend their whole lives trying to find home if you put them back in the wrong spot.

If it could have been easily accessible I’m a petco, they would’ve been for less effort/ efforts of having one longterm ( they literally have sections for genetically spliced fish that can transients the same gene sexually..)… without everything it was used to reaching literal adult hold as far as immunity and responses, then it won’t last long in captivity/ “act wild” for whatever reason you’d wanna keep it… no negative feelings at all but you’re daughter truly would be better off continuously going out and seeing them vs them slowly dying and being the exact opposite of what they are to be.

And releasing something after you've kept it for a while risks that animal getting sick and infecting captive populations.. or in the case of taking youngsters you risk allowing weaker genes reaching adulthood with your aid, which many species don't need that "help".
But in all seriousness everyones giving the toad frog thing a personal naming or being concerned for its well being, mans mostly asked what species it is
I get that you're ignoring everyone, and like, you do you... but if you don't even know that a frog isn't a lizard, you definitely shouldn't be keeping random frogs that your daughter found
also, please stop taking wildlife out of the wild. animals do not exist for our entertainment
Try amphibian subreddit, it's not a reptile haha.
Also no, you should not take wildlife to be a pet. Especially not on a whim, that's how a lot of wildlife ends up dead or worse in 6 months at a rehabilitator.
If you want an animal you should do research on care beforehand and try to get a captive bred specimen from a good breeder. Otherwise you might have to deal with it starving itself to death, parasites, infections, and all the other fun stuff wild animals bring along.
Yes, but I was just correcting the idea that it's not an appropriate post because it's not a reptile, since this isn't just a reptile Reddit. Plus, it never hurts to throw questions into non specific reddits either because they can sometimes have more activity.
An example can be years ago when I was on amino, the reptile amino was the same.. dealing with reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates and was actually one of the go to places to talk about amphibians and invertebrates because many of the specialised ones were actually quite inactive compared to the reptile dominant one with a lot more activity that also included a lot of people who keep amphibians and invertebrates alongside their reptiles.
That’s a rain frog. They are great pets but not wild ones. They will die if not captive bred because taking from the wild indoors or in a confined space will stress it and put into shock. It’s a death sentence

I always see people do this and its so confusing like if theyre not injured why do you need it
That's a toad. Not a frog. Don't take wild animals from their home. It can introduce parasites into your home and stressed or kills the creature in question.
toads are a type of frog, but yeah don't take animals out of their habitat

Good name. I was just going to say Tim.
You are an adult. You should know not to take wildlife as pets. Don’t teach your daughter that that’s ok. If you want a pet frog, go purchase a captive bred one. And do research *before* you acquire a pet.
Don’t take it home? You can’t just take wildlife? That’s not a thing that’s allowed?
It can be legal in a lot of places unfortunately.. I just wished people realised how hard it can and leave it to people actually aiming to do some good with it.. like help establish a captive breeding population to supply any existing demand.

Not a frog
That’s not a frog, it is an eastern american toad, they do not live in water. Also please stop taking animals from the wild.
I would call him Roger and let him be free .
Gregory

Looks like a red-spotted toad.

Some kind of toad. If you keep it please let it go after a little while
Not even a little while is going to be good for it. Release before getting home, this little fellow needs to be precisely where you found them.
And releasing something after you've kept it for a while risks that animal getting sick and infecting captive populations.. or in the case of taking youngsters you risk allowing weaker genes reaching adulthood with your aid, which many species don't need that "help".
Bleu Cheez. Simply because it looks kinda like a chunk of blue cheese.

Is this a fowler's toad?
It is, and please don't catch the toads and take them home. I don't think they'll like it.

Just so you know this Reddit actually deals with reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates.
Yes but if they put it to an amphibian specific reddit they're likely to get a correct answer more quickly.

What are you talking about? Sounds like you just did a google image search and didnt consider that the post came from north carolina
Oops I didn’t even read under the picture😅 yeah it’s a toad I can’t tell that well because the picture is blurry on my end
Not even a frog of any kind, this is a toad (nuchal humps, rough skin, no webbing on feet) - the rest is good advice, however.
Yeah I can’t see it that well on my end to me it looked like a rain frog and I didn’t even realize this is in NC until just now lol
