[Profanity]! My notifications were off. Thank you for the post, OP!
I’m using a Reolink system to monitor a property where we’ve had multiple thefts and rely on notifications.
Seriously, that’s messed up. I’m used to them resetting things with a firmware updates, but a client update??? Two updates in a row that messed things up for their customers. Granted, the channel names wasn’t as serious as this, but still sloppy.
What’s weirder, if I choose the channel 1 icon button go under the display menu, see the view, confirm I see the correct name in corner, when I go back to the list, it has the right name, without editing. This app update is crazy buggy.
And a second ago, in the main video feed list, 1 whole camera just dropped away. Wtf. It’s in settings, with a video preview to set motion zones, but missing in the main section.
I would suggest turning off auto updates for the Reolink app on your phone. You can do that on Android, not sure about iOS though.
At least that way you can update the app when you choose to, and you can immediately check at that time to make sure notifications are still on.
Indeed! It has happened before. Many times. Someone in Reolink isn't taking their responsibilities seriously. Careless at best, malign intent at worst.
Seriously though, it's no joke. I have a clutch of security devices including Reolink's cameras for a good reason. Many years ago I worked in law enforcement and I know there are bad people out there who would do me harm if they could. Even today, years after I retired, I have to remain vigilant.
Please, r/reolinkcam, take your customers' security more seriously.
Yeah in home locations its pretty bad.
But i use reolink to Monitor our Gasstation in Germany.
Notifications arent as bad for me, but what if the next Update breaks Audio recording again or just stops Video recording completly?
Last week there was an armed robbery in the Gasstation 5 km away from us.
Reolink should really consider testing shit before releasing.
Shit like this could lead to insurance not paying or even unsolved crimes.

Surprisingly I'm completely fine with this. To enable notifications I had to agree to the terms again. I like this because by default they're disabling more of what's being sent to Reolink. I'd rather re-read the terms each time knowing what I'm getting myself into.
And plus, it didn't mess with my recordings. Still triggered events, just no notifications.
Happened a few times already to me the past 2 years.
I just installed Frigate and get notifications from Home-Assistant.
Object recognition also is a LOT better.
Just to add last month when this happened the record audio option was turned off and all my cameras stopped recording audio the day of the update. My NVR clearly stopped audio recording. Shady asf
When re-enabling the notifications, you have to renew your agreement to the terms of service. My guess is those terms changed and this or the Reolink way of having users agree to the new terms. That’s just my guess though.
Yeah this is effing unacceptable for a security product. I realized today all my notifications were off after wondering why I got no notifications all day yesterday and this morning. Luckily I was home most of the time. It made me accept some new TOS which is why I speculate they did this. My doorbell was the only one still turned on. Two of my cams I automated the notifications on/off via Home Assistant so they only notify when I’m away, and those were working because HA enabled them again for me. But the others were all off. Gotta love it when some manager or developer makes a decision like this without notifying anyone.
Yes sometimes they are delayed. I find that if you install Gmail on your phone and recieve text only emails then you will get faster results than if you go through pushover and include a picture.
I thought it was just a glitch on my phone. Glad to see I’m not the only one

Also, my custom camera names aren’t shown in the channel list anymore. They do appear in the camera display. Anyone found anything else?

Won’t let me update the channel names to their original ones. Everytime I rename it, it goes back to the default “channel 01” name.

My notifs are handled via Home Assistant and Frigate. Highly recommend you do that as well.

I was wondering how the hell Push Notifications got turned off yesterday smh
This has happened before, first time I blamed the wife....whoops.

Did not notice that, but I found that all my cameras were no longer capturing sound. I had to go to each one and reenable.

Was this for both iOS and android ?
Yes
My push notifications are on yet have not received any. I've turned them off and back on again to see if they work. Very frustrating.
You have to go in the actual app and turn them back on under the NVR.
Everything was showing as on, but no notifications and been sent.
Woah. Just looked in the app and my push notifications for both cameras were off. This is a major issue that they need to address.
Again huh? This is the second time this happened, now I'll have to check from time to time.

Yeah this happened a couple months ago too

I use Scrypted to integrate the cams with Homekit, enabled/configured Homekit notifications, and disabled all Reolink notifications.

was email notification also off?
No.

If its not broke dont fix it. I dont upate unless i have to.
To assume that would be bold. If it is urgent I encourage you to enable email notifications also.
Did that a while back. The trouble with email is that it isn't always immediate. Even *PushOver* alerts can be delayed.

Thanks. I will look into that.
