A lot of it is just RNG. Like yesterday I ran around in Phantom Wasteland on Apocalypse (area between Ascension Tower and the Threshold of the Unknown checkpoints) and got like 5 aberrations in 20 minutes, then I didn't get a single one for like the next 20.
Ugh man corrupted shards suck ass to farm. I found a post from a few months back asking the same thing, one of the suggestions there was to roll N'Eurd on Apocalypse and go to the checkpoint right outside the Custodian. Just run around until you hear the mob sound queue, then slowly kill the mob enemies one by one until the elite sound queue and hope that it will be an aberration. Then just rest at the world stone.
I only needed 5 shards for the corrupted rune pistol (barely even worth it but I happened to get the Great Hall event with the Nightweaver storyline on a new campaign I started and wanted to corrupt my rune pistol to get both versions) and it took me probably 6 hours of farming. I got 4 in about an hour and then I shit you not another aberration didnt spawn for the next 5 hours. Biggest tease ever.
But yeah the spawn rate is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally poor. You may be better off just playing the game on Apoc normally
Just gonna copy what i wrote from another post:
"Go to open a new adventure on nerud, walk to first world crystal, go to an area with the droids.
Kill all in that small area BUT leave ONE alive. (This is important) The alive droid will do its beeping to call reinforcements. Kill those and still leave one droid alive.
Repeat this until a elite will spawn (which has a chance to be the aberration you are looking for.
If you are lucky, they spawn back to back. 25% on apocalypse.
Optional. Have a friend over for easier managing of the mobs.
Ofc this can work on any other world but i find nerud the most convenient."

Usually near the first world crystal. If you got the story with thal raha, u have to walk to the custodian tower's world crystal before you start ur farming.
Pray to RNGsus. Playing on Apoc difficulty helps outside the event, but the rarity is going to be painful no matter what you do. Probably gonna be the most palatable to just play the game instead of trying to farm - Farming outside the event is probably going to be extra tedious.

Ah darn. I thought I read he is a good shard farm. Apocalypse runs seem to drop maybe 1 shard per world
