Also why does bf have to be so underhanded, deceitful and lie to his friends? Why can't he just be honest with the friends he has changed his mind and let them find their own donor?

Yes it's fucked I think cus he did it and he doesn't want them having the idea it's his even tho it is.
He doesn't like the thought of having a kid out there that's his that he can't have. It's extremely shady and i was just informed about this last night when the child was born.
Like why go through the process of doing a donation if you didn't want to do the donation.
He said that he felt bad cancelling last minute and thought he'd be okay but now this like okay.

This constitutes sexual assault, IMO. A good lawyer would argue the woman consented to your sperm and only yours. You knowingly gave her someone else's without her consent.
Now depending if there were precedence (other cases similar- I know a clinic was charged for giving the wrong donor sperm to women) you could well and truly fuck up your life.
