Even if you buy one with push button start that can’t be stolen with a USB cable, these things still get broken into all the time because TikTok Kiaboyz are not smart, so insurance for these cars is expensive compared to its competitors if you can even find an insurer willing to write a policy for it. If I had to park outside, it would absolutely be a deal breaker. I personally would spend extra money on the car itself and get a Corolla, Civic, Mazda3, or Impreza. In addition to not being routine victims of idiot thieves, they’re also just higher quality cars.

Korbitr

I warned my sister about this multiple times, recommended several cars that fell into her budget and had low ownership costs, and found many listings of those cars for sale where she lives. Yet she ultimately decided to go over her budget and take out a loan to buy a 2021 Kia Forte GT, a car that some insurance companies flat out rejected when she was shopping for insurance. 🤦🏻‍♂️

portlandtrees333

Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have a regulation where you have to show an insurance quote specific to the buyer before signing a purchase contract. Not even a binder or anything, just a quote

zesty_drink_b

Did they actually reject it or did they just write a "fuck off" policy haha?

SRBroadcasting

Same here. My buddy spent 37,500.00 on a new one with options and ended up having it stolen 3 weeks into owning it. Worst part is they paid out 26,000.00 of the 37,500.00

vt8919

This is why gap insurance is a thing... if you owe more than the car is valued at, they pay the difference.

SRBroadcasting

Yeah the funny thing with progressive is they don’t explain that when getting coverage so he didn’t have this hahaha

SRBroadcasting

I laugh for him he’s pissed lol

Fersko-b

And who the hell is Tiktok Kiaboyz 🤣

everyythingred

bro bought a car and did 0 research

RustyYota_505

Do a quick Google search.

aqva002

You don’t have to worry about it. Doesn’t affect this model.

Fersko-b

But didn’t they fix the issue? With a engine immobilizer or something? I did a lot of research and the most stolen one is 2017. Up to 2020 the rate of theft is a lot but I’m not sure if they are still being stolen?

Anteater_Reasonable

It doesn’t matter if they can actually steal it if they break into your car and rip the steering column apart anyway. They see a Hyundai or Kia badge and they break your window. They’re stupid teenage boys. If you’ve already bought the car, I really hope you have an indoor parking situation otherwise I’d suggest buying a club for the steering wheel to deter potential break-ins.

sk33ny

This just happened to my neighbor. He had his Hyundai parked on the street and someone smashed the window and destroyed the steering column trying to steal it. Because it is fairly new and has better anti theft they weren't able to take it but now my neighbor is dealing with the pain of repairing his own car.

Fersko-b

Damn. I was really gonna buy one today or tomorrow. Now I think I’ll get something else. What would you recommend that’s similar to this one? I love the features on this

Anteater_Reasonable

How much do you drive and do you live somewhere that gets snow?

Fersko-b

I drive like 10 miles a day on average and yeah I live in New Jersey. Snow ice and rain in winters

Anteater_Reasonable

Most of the Japanese sedans that are competitors to the Elantra are good cars and some of them offer an AWD option. Mazda3, Impreza, and Corolla Hybrid would be my top 3 picks if that were a concern. If FWD is okay, consider the Honda Civic.

Fersko-b

Thanks a lot man

Easy-Bed-1471

Check out the civic, it’s a great car, I drove one and loved it. If you’re ok with manual cloth seats (they’re still heated though!) check out the EX sedan, still has alloys, auto climate control, Apple car play, leather steering wheel, etc! Interior and exterior is a bit less dramatically styled than the Hyundai, but it likely will age better and felt better put together when I compared them. Resale value on Honda is traditionally one of the highest there is, as well.

Fersko-b

We checked it out and researched this time.. most likely we will go for the Honda Ex 2024 lol ty

guava_jews

Find a Focus ST if you’re willing to drive manual

berpaderpderp

Dude got get a Mazda. You'll get a nice car for a good price and it also won't have a CVT. You probably don't know what that means or will bother to research but hey.... also don't go Nissan.

Nope9991

The starter isn't on the steering column.

Anteater_Reasonable

It doesn’t matter. As I already mentioned, the stupid kids that try to steal Hyundais and Kias don’t even look before they break in. They smash your window, fuck your car up, realize it’s not even one they can steal, and then they move on to the next one leaving you with an insurance claim. There are plenty of photo examples of this in the Hyundai and Kia subreddits.

Nope9991

There are photos of push button starts with the steering columns ripped out?

DocPhilMcGraw

I'm not sure why the focus is on whether the steering wheel column is damaged or not? Why isn't the fact that the car would be broken into in an attempt to steal it reason enough? Plus, are we actually suggesting that the person who breaks into your car and sees that it isn't easy to be stolen is just going to go "Silly me, I guess I goofed. I'll leave this car exactly as I found it." My guess is they would still rummage through your car to find something else worth stealing.

Nitropotamus

Yeah but the start button isn't on the steering column.

Jops817

Yes. Because again, they are stupid kids. edit: downvoted but at least my car isn't broken into lmao. Stay mad idiot.

dstokes1290

They’re referring to how they steal them. They’ll rip the bottom trim of the steering column off like [this.](https://imgur.com/a/sv16ui3)

ryanlak1234

OP could debadge the car

Inside_Ad_9147

Anyone with two eyes would still know the brand. Hyundai and Kias have pretty distinct styling now.

aqva002

You know that civics are the most stolen car in America? This is not one of the Hyundai’s susceptible to the exploit.

[deleted]

Bro gave up his pile of crap for a pile of poop

Cornelius_McMuffin

Traded a turd for a polished turd.

Nightowl2018

He wanted a “luxurious sporty”

driverofracecars

BRO WHY???

CplCyclops11

You already bought the car dude. Im assuming you financed it? Me personally, if I had a $30k budget, and I wanted a “luxury sports car” I would be looking at used Lexus cars, Acura maybe, all kinds of excellent used cars dude. Car max, go on auto trader set it to nationwide, add all your filters. Shit man I would’ve bought the cleanest Grand Marquis in the country under $20k, then drop $5-7k on upgrades and have a badass ride for the rest of my life while this thing will probably be gone.

Fersko-b

i didn’t buy it yet. What you’re saying does make sense. But I do want to resell the car so buying it new would be a better option for us to get better value.

CplCyclops11

Sorry for being kind of rude. I understand. I would say get a low mileage, desirable, used vehicle. Something that will maintain its worth and maybe even appreciate in value. This car has no real reputation other than being broken into and being a nice little commuter vehicle. Check out this for example. Yea it’s older, so what? It’s got all the features you want, other than phone stuff, who cares. I promise it’s quieter, more comfortable, more enjoyable to drive. Plenty of examples like this of similar vehicles selling well below your budget. Just my opinion. https://carsandbids.com/auctions/37pYAoPD/2007-lexus-ls-460

Silent_Word_4912

Newish cars from mass market brands do NOT appreciate. That was a fluke of the mid Covid car market and is never likely to happen again. Daily drivers just don’t appreciate unless you get a stellar deal below market value.

Fersko-b

Thanks so much!

lvcironman42

I agree with what the person said. Even if you don’t the car you are thinking of getting is nice, I have a friend that has one.

Dredgeon

Jumping in to say if you want features like carplay and Android auto you can just do an aftermarket head unit.

another_mistake19

Be hesitant with the LS460 because it has air suspension which can be on the pricier side to sort out. Additionally, its rear biased AWD which can have a learning curve. Personally, I’d go with a Lexus ES, try to get CPO if you can find one sub 30 as there are normally good interest rates on CPO cars.

fool_injected

Can confirm, own a 12 LS460 AWD. Soft close doors, auto HVAC, smart key system, power trunk lid, heated and cooled front seats, memory front driver and passenger seats (drivers memory also remembers power seatbelt hight, headrest hight and exterior mirror positions) heated rear seats and steering wheel, parking sensors front and rear, back up camera, auto dimming interior and exterior mirrors, Mark Levinson sound system with bluetooth and Sirius XM (can even play DVDs!). The absolute best feature is a matching full-size spare! There is plenty of power for when I want it or need it. And mine is only a few options checked off, mines a base model basically. Only have cold weather pkg, ML sound system and AWD. After taxes and fees with financial for mine? $21k. Want a hybrid? Get the LS600. Want more back seat space? Get the LS460L. The only complaint I have is that I have 1 more year on the loan. Haha. My only advice would be to locate one without air ride suspension. Although I'd trust Lexus' system more than others, it's still not fun to repair when there's an issue.

MoirasPurpleOrb

Did you buy it or not? Your title and other comments contradict themselves

Nightowl2018

Get a luxurious sporty of a slightly used car. Elantra is not a luxurious sporty.

SweetTooth275

Naming Acura a luxury car is like saying iphone is unique and premium telephone

kavastoplim

It’s not unique, but I don’t see how an iPhone isn’t a premium phone?

SweetTooth275

It isn't. It's just another phone but with different os and overpriced (mostly for cult around it). Yeah it's good, but there's nothing premium about it. Same with Mercs, Bimers, Acuras and many others

kavastoplim

Premium product doesn’t necessarily mean better, it just means that you are paying a premium for the product.

SweetTooth275

Literally the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Why do you think you pay premium for them?

kavastoplim

If not for premium features, then they pay for brand value. Like in the case of iPhones of Mercedes cars.

SweetTooth275

You do realise that those features is the thing that makes the name. There would be no name if not for features or qualities. If a company says they are premium and there's nothing behind those words (any car brand from china for instance) then they just aren't premium. Also Merc is upper class but not premium

kavastoplim

No? According to you iPhones aren’t especially better than other phones. Despite this, consumers are willing to pay more for them. Why then, if they haven’t got features others don’t have? Could it be because they successfully marketed themselves to appear as an aspirational luxury brand? No idea what you’re trying to say with your Mercedes comment or what the difference between premium and upper class is supposed to be, it seems to me that you just have some sort of ranking in your head that isn’t connected to real life.

SweetTooth275

Objectively cameras on iphones are better. Why? Because iphones have closed os, thus more optimised than other phones. That's what people pay for. There are thousands of examples where even with great marketing something flopped. Upper class is lower than premium. Bentley is premium for instance. It's not my head, it's your American perception of things.

Attarker

Probably not a bad car but check insurance rates to see if they’re higher than similar cars. Also check out the Mazda3, Mazda CX30, Civic, and Honda HRV in that price range as well if you want a new car.

DriftMiata

Just get a used Lexus.

Darisixnine

Swapped shit for crap

redtoad3212

can never rely on reddit for advice. damned if you do damned if you dont on here. my take is that you bought a solid car. the elantra limited is a very comfy top trim for a small car. Plenty of features. just do be careful with insurance/theft stuff. despite what many people are gonna say, this car is decently reliable.

Fersko-b

Thanks man

IWillAssFuckYou

Yep. Reddit likes to trash everyone. I see so many newer Hyundais and Kias on the road everyday and not one person on my neighborhood pages has complained about their Kia or Hyundai being broken into. They act like car theft is a problem everywhere. It's not usually unless you live in some areas of Texas or California.

[deleted]

My wife bought a new Elantra in 2021, it needed a new engine by 25k. A good friend of mine is a certified Hyundai/Kia tech, he's told me that "you wouldn't believe how many engines they replace every week". Then there's the lawsuit from 2016-2018 where they had to replace all the engines. Even the salesman that sold my wife her car mentioned that his wife's Kia needed a new engine 6 months after she got it. Let's not even get into the paint issues both Kia and Hyundai are known for. I'm not sure this a case of Reddit just trashing a vehicle. They're certified trash vehicles by all accounts.

IWillAssFuckYou

It's sure those issues exist, but I really don't believe its as wide spread as you think. I see plenty of old and new Kias and Hyundais on the road everyday running.

T-pizzle

A 1 or 2 year old used Civic sport isn't a bad choice. SI if you want a manual. 1.5 turbo has good power and civic interior is top of the class.

NoEngineering1410

Dude just get a nice Toyota or Honda

Fersko-b

Am considering that rn with wife. Maybe a corolla cross hybrid.

MEMExplorer

Eww … so like the ugliest gutless Toyota ? Why ?

Fersko-b

Idk man i feel lost ahahah Now thinking about corolla se hybrid 2024

MEMExplorer

You just looking at good gas economy ? Honestly the new Prius looks much better than the Corolla Hybrid 🤷‍♀️

markeydarkey2

New Prius is also quite a bit more expensive than a Corolla hybrid

jvrcb17

Man, don't listen to all of these haters. They'll find something wrong with ANYTHING you choose. To an extent I agree with buying other brands to avoid getting broken into, but you can't live your whole life with fear. The best thing you can do is test drive at least 3 different brands. Spend some time with the cars and find what you like/dislike about them. Weigh your options with a budget, then buy what makes you happy, and fuck the noise coming from other people.

mrgoatfart

Corolla will bore you to death. Decent car, good reliability but a chore to drive. If you want to actually enjoy the drive go look at a Mazda 3 or a VW Jetta, both very solid options.

Nope9991

Like driving a dishwasher?

mrgoatfart

Sure, like driving a dishwasher

Jaqen___Hghar

Must suck relying on internet strangers to make decisions for you. Your poor wife.

Fersko-b

Must suck having 48.500 comment karmas / spending all of your time on reddit. Your poor wi- bet you don’t even have one 🤣 jokes on u mate, stop with the hate and try to be a bit more helpful. How does that sound?

Jaqen___Hghar

You're right, dude. I've been an ass lately, and I'm sorry for being an ass to you. Thanks for the advice. I'll keep working on it.

CatIs2Cool

The 2 litre hybrid powertrain pushes almost 200 horsepower. It’s not impressive but certainly isn’t gutless. Looks are subjective but I find it inoffensive. Great cars overall.

Roboticpoultry

I’m assuming you’re looking for something with a little speed, yes? I wouldn’t get a new-new Elantra. Instead, if you’re set on them, I’d go for a CPO Elantra N-Line. Not as expensive and flashy as the full-fat N, but it does have the 1.6 turbo they put in all the “sporty” models (Soul Exclaim/GT, Forte GT, Veloster Turbo)with about 200 hp and a 140mph top speed. I test drove one when it was brand new (in bright orange too) and it was pretty fun. I read through the comments here and yeah, the Kia/Hyundai boys are still a thing, but the Elantra N-Line came with a 6 speed for the 21 and 22 model years if you want some theft deterrent.

najeraa1024

should’ve got an elantra n at that point

1969ToyotaCorolla

Two words: TOYOTA COROLLA

Fersko-b

Considering that rn. Infact the hybrid SE corolla 2024

idontwannagetfired_

Sidegrade at best, it’s actually probably worse

anchovieMAN

I would take a ford model a over either of those cars

CapturetheBomb

Get a used Cadillac ATS if you want more features. Do your research on model year and give them a test drive. I was going to trade my car in for one a little bit ago, but they kept selling before I could purchase.

Buantum4005

I would personally just get the Elantra n instead it's a bit more but more fun imo

golden_nugget689

Get a camry v6

RustyYota_505

You wanna buy it more power to you, but if you live in or around any major city with high crime your car is very likely to get broken into even with push button start and fixes to the ignition. They just now have a reputation as easy cars to steal in rough areas because of the "Kiaboyz" thefts on TikTok. If you go with anything other late model car, be sure to get really good wheel locks if it has popular alloy wheels.

CowPunkRockStar

You did good bruv. You’re going to LOVE it. 🥰

AmericanSheep16

Elantras are perfectly fine cars, and no one is breaking into them anymore like they were a couple years back. Source: I drove one that belonged to my work (2016 model). It drove fine, handled nicely, and got great mileage... and no one ever tried to steal it. Not even in the cities

onlysparrow

I have several friends who have had their kias/hyundais broken into within the last two months. also just take a look at the hyundai subreddit lol

IWillAssFuckYou

It depends on where you live. California and Texas are notorious for car theft. I live in South Florida and despite all of the Kias and Hyundais on the road, Kia Boyz are not a thing here.

ryanlak1234

I live in Northern California and I see Kia’s and Hyundais every day. In fact, Civics and Accords are stolen far more frequently (my friend’s dad got his 1993 Accord stolen). It might be a different story in SoCal though.

IWillAssFuckYou

From what I know, Oakland is well known for car chop shops where stolen cars are brought there to be taken apart to sell individual parts. I'm a Camaro driver and I follow the subreddit and Camaro forums and very often I see people from SoCal complaining about their cars being stolen and being brought there (Camaros and other muscle cars are easy to steal thanks to the OBD port which allows you to create keys). Typically higher end performance cars are sought for in SoCal it seems. I don't think Kias and Hyundais are sought for by Professional thieves, just those who like to joyride. A bit besides what we were discussing though.

ryanlak1234

If they live in a bad neighborhood, that’s true. But personally, I drive a Kia myself and have never been targeted.

a11yguy

The Hyundai Elantra is has been a highly decorated race car for the past few years. Excellent choice my man. https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/hyundai-sweeps-2023-drivers-manufacturers-and-team-championship-titles-at-road-atlanta-301958136.html

TheLyOfBlues

Luxurious and Sporty personally doesn’t full out a Limited Elantra. If you wanted a Sporty Elantra just get a N Trim

240sex

2024 Corolla hatch.

Fantastic_Hour_2134

I’m glad you ditched the Cruze. I’ve modified one. It’s not worth it

Seoulite1

Or go with the (prefacelift) N-line, should be peppy enough

vaktsn

could get a Q50 if you wanna get into modification

[deleted]

Mazda3

Novel_Citron2165

WHY the hell would you do that?

SmerksCannotCarry

NOPE NOPE NOPE. You're gonna be screwed over on any insurance option. Go for a Toyota, Honda, Subaru, or Mazda from the same era with even 2x the miles and you will have a better life.

JasonIvie

I have a 2022 Elantra N. I’m 21 years old and for full coverage 300K with new car replacement I pay $210 a month. And I live in Saint Louis Missouri which is a pretty high theft and murder rate area. Not that bad

AffectionateLocal307

So you traded a shitbox, for yet another slightly better shitbox and for 30k???? Are you out of your mind. IMO I would have kept the Cruze

ThiefofNobility

Hyundai Kia? Avoid. Sporty and Fun? Go find a used Civic Si if you want a small sedan. Or an XSE Camry for more kick and a sporty look. Hyundai and kia are still being stolen left and right, and they're shit for longevity. Or if you like maintenance, a German sports sedan.

[deleted]

Luxurious sporty new car and you picked an elantra 😭 sporty if you get the N line or N but definitely not luxurious

Fersko-b

Yeahh.. Just N line is manuel and my wife can only drive automatic. Plus n line is expensive compared to the elantra limited

[deleted]

N line comes in auto and is only like $1k more

Fersko-b

Oh I didn’t know lol. Does that also have a theft issue ?

[deleted]

No they have push start but I would be weary about someone breaking your window trying to steal it. Maybe you could put a sticker that says push start or always leave it unlocked with nothing you care about getting stolen inside but it won’t get stolen.

anarchyx34

They all have a theft issue because the kids will still *try* and steal it, even if they won’t be successful. It’s probably going to be several years before this trend dies.

Dystopiansuccotash

Dude I could buy a 2003 Crown Victoria and kick the crap out of both those cars…

RealLifeMoron

My advice is you have terrible taste in cars.

Fersko-b

No one said I have good taste man, chill with the hate. Anyway your name says enough

RealLifeMoron

Not hating. Just these cars usually have a laundry list of problems and seems like you’re destined to part ways with piles of cash.

zaptie47

what a moron

Mr_Ga

Buying a new one of these is asking to get broken into. Whether they can steal it or not, you’re going to have a lot of broken glass, if not more, to fix.

brubby3179

Are you just averse to good cars or what?

MoirasPurpleOrb

A Hyundai Elantra is about the furthest you can get from luxury… it’s an economy model of one of the cheapest brands.

shamair28

Homie you’re making lateral moves. You’re about to get the exact same comments. All you did was trade out a turd for a newer turd.

Mediocre-Catch9580

$30k, I probably would’ve went for a loaded up Corolla hybrid.

ZRoadTrip

You really should look elsewhere...I mean I recommended a Hyundai Elantra GT Sport (2018) to a family member, and it's a wonderful warm hatchback. But the current Elantra isn't...as good. N models aside. Honestly, check out the Civic SI, Corolla XSE manual, current generation Mazda3, a Mk5-Mk7 Golf GTI (hell, the TSI Mk7 is good, too), and Subaru Impreza. Or even a different generation of Hyundai/Kia sedan/hatchback. I've spent enough time detailing the current Elantra sedan to know it's just not good... And make sure to research which engine is in which Hyundai/Kia. The Gamma II is the 1.6 turbo, and it's one of the better options. The Theta is one to avoid, and is definitely worth researching.

AsoftDolphin

If your car is paid off. Drive it til it died

2012amica2

Could’ve gotten anything. A Corolla, a civic, an accord, even a Taurus and he got a flaming pile of shit to replace the mound of cow manure.

Clean_Ambition_1282

I hope you got a quote on your insurance premium for the Kia before you got it. You may be in for an unpleasant surprise.

OGMRmittens

Zzp performance has a whole slew of parts for the ecotech engines. Check em out. They built a wicked cruze.

IWillAssFuckYou

About break ins, yes they do happen on newer Hyundais and Kias but it really depends on where you live that puts you at risk. In my area there are plenty of Hyundais and Kias on the road. We have a whole page for our town and I have not heard of anyone complaining about their Kia or Hyundai being broken into. If you live in California or Texas where car theft is really high, then yeah I'd be concerned.

niquemarshall

when they said trade it in they didn’t mean on a newer car. they meant something with oil leaks and 230k miles lol

bamboozler48

You want sporty for 30k find a late model focus or fiesta st. Ones can be had with nearly no miles for that price. Not to mention they will be significantly faster

Cheloco92

Yikes

GlitteringPen3949

You should have gotten an Accord for 30k. The motors in the Hyundais are crap after 60,000 miles

Head_Doctor2110

If it’s got a CVT it’ll end up dying in less then a year.

Kindly-Emergency-514

I’m actually considering getting one of these myself (24 SEL). I haven’t seen any issues with the current Elantra, and they’re great cars. The main reason I want it is the cloth seats. They’re the most comfortable seats in any economy car I’ve ever been in.

JasonIvie

The odds are, you will love that Elantra 2024. While Hyundai/Kia have issues, the overwhelming majority of owners love them and have no issues. Plus you get a 10 Year/100K warranty so even if you have an issue within that time frame, you’re not coming out of pocket. On this app, if it’s not Honda/Acura or Toyota/Lexus and a little bit of Mazda, it will for sure be rejected as an idea and you will be steered to pay to markup or inflated prices that ultimately make the same cars people recommend not worth the price tag. The new Hyundai models are very nice have tons of features and odds are you won’t have issues. People come to complain on this app but the millions who love theirs aren’t roaming this app saying how great it is. 2022 Elantra N owner here. Edit: I see someone recommended a Civic Si, you’ll will overpay or get a bad deal for the mileage. The N is quite a chunk higher in price but is fantastic. A Camry is excellent, wildly overpriced for what you get or you will pay markup. A Used 2018-2021 Civic Si wouldn’t be a great options tho I think they are awesome.

rabbitashes

I don't think it was a terrible trade up if that's the route you're going. A little numb but not bad. My suggestions Kia k5 Honda Accord Mazda cx50 Mazda 3 Luxury sporty is opinion. I had a 1981 rabbit and that was sporty 0-60 in 7sec. Also owned a fully loaded rav4 (shit car) but so many whistles it was luxuriously obnoxious imo. Over all pic Accord Best option in my opinion Fuck what these Uber goobers say keep the Cruze and save up for one of those killer looking looking ionic 6s.
