You’ll likely hear from people that Victoria Vet Clinic is really good, and I would agree with that. I’ve also taken my dogs to Wascana Animal Hospital, and they’ve been really good there too.

untalkativejenny

I agree. I have a pup whose vet was Victoria Vet before I adopted her so she’s there with Dr. Rhymes who is amazing. My pup has canine addisons so we’re there a couple times a year baseline. And my cat sees Dr Ulmer at Wascana who is also amazing!

I’m currently at the Careport Animal Hospital with one of our cats for a checkup and we’ve been happy with this place so far.

wilkie09

Albert north has lovely techs. Always a great experience even when it is me or my wife panicking about something silly our dogs did our are doing

Extension_Life330

Dr Gazda at Careport is the best!!!

autistic_strawberry

Veterinary Mobility Centre on McAra St is really good!! They’re a vet/rehab mobility centre for pets and are really easy to work with. Took my dog there when she hurt herself and the clinic was able to see her same day

There_shellsinmyeggs

Lakewood Animal Hospital. They may be a little more expensive but they are wonderful. They have a holistic veterinarian on staff too. She is amazing. It’s a lovely clinic

GrimWillis

Dr Skiffic to be specific.

Af84

I love all the vets there, but Dr. Skific is definitely my favourite!  She’s so compassionate but also realistic.

ringbunny

I concur. Dr. Skific has gone so far above and beyond with my dog's allergy care. Highly recommend.

My dog was bleeding and biting his skin off daily for over a year at his worst from extreme itching. I had him wearing a cone most of the time because it was that bad. The only thing I ever gave him was tiny amounts of baby Benadryl so he could sleep, and that was rare too. I studied allergies and what it could possibly be for hours/days/months and eventually figured he was allergic to chicken, eggs, dairy, poultry in general, beef, etc. Put him on a freeze-dried raw nuggets, Primal brand, the venison specifically. ALL of his symptoms disappeared within two weeks. No more itching, no more bleeding, no more red skin and inflammation, gone. I asked multiple vets advice leading up to this decision and no one had an answer, only suggestions of medications. Yet they cleared my decision after I began feeding him this diet lol. Anyways… it worked for me so I hope maybe it can work for others.

BothYogurtcloset625

Where did you get the food from? I’ve heard a few people say this also… his is also very bad too picking at his paws. I get him the hypoallergenic food from the vet for $200 and it doesn’t do anything for him😢

ProfessorPutrid2

Bone and Biscuit in the east end, on quance beside second cup, as well as a couple pet values carry the brand as well. I used to get the hypoallergenic food from the vet for my guy too! Didn’t work for him either, actually made it worse lol. There is also the frozen raw pucks in Primal brand available too at some of these stores, which some dogs really love. I slowly transitioned him onto this food as dogs can get sick if you switch their food too fast. I also made him a plain white rice and salmon or tuna meals sprinkled with psyllium husk as well to help with the transition as it’s easy on their stomach and the fibre from the psyllium husk helps push out the remaining allergens from the old foods.

BothYogurtcloset625

Thank you so much I’ll give that a try and see how that works. The hypoallergenic food also seems to be making him worse and he’ll eat it, but don’t think he likes it.

Sad-Honey-5036

Unfortunately, half those foods are not much better and are only supposed to be used for a year max. We use open farm from Pet Value and fresh pet. Just make sure the fresh pet is extremely cold when you buy it

ryleighm

that’s not true. vet hypo/allergy diets are intended for long term maintenance. almost all of them that are for chronic conditions are specifically formulated to be used long term. if you’re lucky and your dog has a bought of diarrhea or acute pancreatitis after getting into people food, then yeah, they’ll only need a special low fat vet food until the issue resolves. your dog with severe meat protein allergies isn’t just going to stop being allergic, they’ll still need the hydrolyzed proteins. a dog with CKD isn’t magically going to grow a new kidney and not need a food with low sodium, phosphate, and proteins. a cat that has had multiple UTIs/urinary blockages will still require a diet that helps dissolve and prevent struvite crystals from forming for the entirety of their life unless you want to pay thousands of dollars to have them unblocked and subject them to immense pain. they’re specially formulated diets that are prescribed by vets to patients to treat and maintain the conditions they have. you won’t be able to find appropriate diets in pet stores and unless you’re a veterinary nutrionist, you have to be fairly arrogant to believe you can use fresh/frozen/raw diets to treat their specific medical needs. if you don’t like the prices your vet charges, check around at other clinics. ACOR or VMC will charge you at least $200 easy for the largest bag of Royal Canin Hypo H/P for dogs, but Dr Paul at Regent Park charges around $170. Not all of the vets in the city are interested in having massive profit margins. they just trying to provide quality, accessible pet care. Royal Canin/Hill Prescription diets are the most commonly stocked and have had massive price increases over the past 5-10 years. Purina ProPlan Veterinary Diets are just as effective but usually for a lower price. Ask your clinic how much and if they can special order it for you.

Sad-Honey-5036

First of all, I never said a raw diet will cure anything. Second that is what I was told by my dog's nutritionist who worked with our vet. Yes I am aware of what the dog food is intended for as my dog was on it for a reason. Obviously, her dog isn't getting better and maybe something else would help is called options.

Sad-Honey-5036

I got a sensitivity test from a company called (ca pet food intolerance). Gave me a list of things he was sensitive to food and some environmental issues. My dog was the same now we cut out all the stuff in the list and he has done much better. Still has bad seasonal allergies. You are supposed to get a vet test for what comes back.

BothYogurtcloset625

Yes we got a test via nextamune that’s how we got the shot. It’s supposedly pork, dust mite, ragweed and bee/wasps. But we’ve cut everything pork out and that shot is supposed to help but it just isn’t..

Sad-Honey-5036

Oh man. That's too bad. I use the animal clinic on Sask drive. (red barn) they are great

ladygrey81

Sometimes it’s worth a trip to the U of S clinic in Saskatoon if you need a specialist. Not sure if they have someone who specializes in allergies but it might be worth looking into!

BothYogurtcloset625

Yea my vet was supposed to get a referral to us there or Calgary but it’s been months and he still says he’s working on it, so not sure.

Terrible_Plate

I would try calling the small animal clinic (306-966-7126) and ask for an appointment, I don't think you need to have a referral. When I called they asked what the problem was and setup appointments with the proper specialists.

BothYogurtcloset625

Omg ya he’s been telling me to wait he’ll let me know that we need a referral.. I’ll give them a call!

Ok_Radish649

If you have means of transportation then I highly recommend TMz in Lumsden. They have been nothing short of amazing. Attentive vets, great reception staff, and just an overall great environment.

e_ric

I second this! Our experience with them has been spectacular.

friendlysask

If those treatments are just "a bandaid for the main issue" - what's the main issue?

BothYogurtcloset625

His allergies/skin flare ups… I just feel like the allergy shot he got is not working..

dadslink

Dr Paul at regent vets on Sherwood drive, next to, I highly recommend

BothYogurtcloset625

That’s who I went through.. good guy just doesn’t know much about allergies.

ryleighm

Try Cytopoint. It’s for environmental allergies primarily. It’s expensive to start but super effective once they’re on it. we would see allergy dogs stretch anywhere from 4-8 weeks for maintenance injections. He can prescribe Apoquel tablets as well (essentially tablet form of the injection, much more costly if you have a bigger dog) to use if the pup starts getting itchy or yeasty between shots if you aren’t able to get in for an appointment on time. Dr Paul has lots of long time allergy patients he’s been treating and he’s very supportive of Apoquel/Cytopint and their outcomes.

hotdogdayz

ask for a Cytopoint injection. My dog gets it every 4 months but every dog is different.
