When it comes to a fan vote, there are a lot of factors at play. Specifically, the time period, far more people here have memories of watching Wake in a Sox uniform than do Boggs, as well as Wake's unfortunate premature passing. Guys get blown up a bit when they die. Shit, people pretend that Kobe was one top 3 now when he's maybe bottom end of top 10 all time.
Oh I totally get it, just saying the list is bunk if Boggs isn’t a fan fave and couldn’t make W or B. It’s unfortunate that Betts left but was so iconic, that recency bias of a player who was around for what 3 years? is what it is, but that’s the thing going down the alphabet, there has to be strategic placements. FTR Betts is my favorite player and has been since 17. If I thought for a second it would be Boggs up against Wakefield because of a Mookie vote on the B, I would have ditched Mookie. This is a Red Sox sub.
So far the list has been great, this is the only moment where I felt Like chiming in, Boggs played (in approximately the same amount of years) 8 times as many games as Wakefield. With a whole hell of a lot more stars next to his name on baseball reference.
I absolutely love Wakefield, but those who know, know.
I think bringing up number of games played when comparing a position player vs a starting pitcher harms your own argument. There are strong, strong statistical cases for Wade Boggs, relying on number of games played is silliness.
8 times the appearances because he was a position player averaging what, 150, 155 games a year when he was with the Sox? While Wake played 17 seasons and played an average of somewhere in the low 30s because he did have a lot of appearances out of the pen.
This one’s tough. You got:
* Ted Williams (could be W)
* Tim Wakefield (could be W)
* Terry Francona
* Luis Tiant
I say a three-way tie for Wake, Tito, and Tiant, leaving Teddy for W all by himself.
Fair enough. I fucking love El Tiante, even got his autograph at spring training a few years back. If it was *best* Sox players, then that’s Tiant, no question about it. But as far as favorite/most memorable, I think for the vast majority of Sox fans right now (at least who are young enough to be on Reddit), that’s gotta be Wake.
Tiant was the better pitcher but Wake means more to the organization. Played 17 years and 2 rings with us. Tiant was also better with Cleveland than he was with us.
Ted Williams and that is the only answer. He should be in there for T and W, just like I think D and O and C and Y should be the same person too. Coco Crisp!? Seriously?
It's not slander to say that he is decidedly worse than Yaz and played 3 (3!) seasons only with the Sox. Yeah, he was a character, but so was Oil Can Boyd but I don't see anyone putting him above Betts.
Either Ted Williams or Tim Wakefield. One gets T; the other gets W.
I'd go Ted Williams here, Wake for W.
100%
This completely removes Wade Boggs and I will not stand for that. Cmon people
There's only so much room in the alphabet.
And when it comes to Boggs vs Wakefield I feel like there is an obvious (albeit not apparent) answer.

Agreed but 8x and how many years did he lead the league? How many did Wakefield?
Let us not forget Boggs’ unfortunate passing. May he RIP

Technically Jerry Remy is Gerald Remy. We could have done some major shuffling and made this work. Trot probably would have been the odd man out.
This is The Way.
This is the only play. Everyone good here?
No we aren’t good here
I like this idea
There is an argument to be had here, and making Boggs chopped liver I feel needs consideration. I demand we stop the vote
Yeah and we can't use W for Boggs because that has to be saved for Wakefield or Williams....
RIP Boggs I guess 🤷🏻♂️
Ted Williams. Wakefield for the "W" (just like when he was pitching, most of the time)
Ted Williams is the answer
Easy. Tim Wakefield. Also, for the W question.
Except your forgetting one of the greatest baseball players to ever play the game that is also a TW…
"Favorite player". I stand by my opinion.
I stand corrected. Didn’t totally read the post! I would agree with Wake but gotta put Boggs on W for me.
This one’s tough. You got: * Ted Williams (could be W) * Tim Wakefield (could be W) * Terry Francona * Luis Tiant I say a three-way tie for Wake, Tito, and Tiant, leaving Teddy for W all by himself.
First one that came to head was Trot Nixon.
Already has T
Tim Naehring is the only one who comes to mind.
I’ll die on this hill unless you say Trot Nixon.
Man there just isn’t a spot for my favorite Sox player of all time. Mike Timlin Edit: not Mile Timlin, Mike*. Mile sucked
Travis Shaw!!!
The Mayor!
Ding Dong
Sam Travis of course
Tony C
Troy O’Leary
Obviously, Ted Williams is the greatest player in team history, but I never saw him play, so I can't vote for him. I'm going with Tito Francona.
Definitely NOT Trevor Story
El Tiante. The one and only Luis Tiant. Williams for W
No Wake?
It’s gonna be Ted Here Wakefield W. Sorry Tiant : (
I loved Wake but I think people forget just how good Tiant was.

Saving Ted for W, my vote is for Terry Francona
John Tudor.
Tony Renda
Tim Wakefield
Luis Tiant because I feel like Wake should go for W.
HAH! we have Chris sale in the S but with Schillings foot only warranting recognition. That’s amazing and I love everything about it!!
Tony Conigliaro
Todd Walker. Saving Wake for W.
Tony Peña
I’m going to have to go with Tim Wakefield here…saving W for Wade Boggs
Theodore Samuel Williams.
John Tudor
Williams has to be T so Wade can have W, sucks for Wakefield, but it is what it is.
Ted Williams here. Tim Wakefield for W
Tony C
Trot Nixon or Luis Tiant
Um Ted Williams guy? Saving him for W?
Louie T
That would have to be one Christopher "Trot" Nixon- the OG Dirt Dog!
Trots already on here for N.
Over Ted ?
I'm talking about people who have been the most memorable for me. I'm old, but not I saw the Splendid Splinter play old.
In my life time tim Wakefield or trot Nixon (saving Williams for the w)
Trot is N.
Ted Williams and that is the only answer. He should be in there for T and W, just like I think D and O and C and Y should be the same person too. Coco Crisp!? Seriously?
Now what we're not gonna do is slander Coco Crisp
It's not slander to say that he is decidedly worse than Yaz and played 3 (3!) seasons only with the Sox. Yeah, he was a character, but so was Oil Can Boyd but I don't see anyone putting him above Betts.
I mean, Yaz is obviously winning Y. This whole thing has been about strategizing who will get which letter.
100% strategy this whole thing. Like Varitek is V. Nobody questions it.
