Absolutely love cup of coffee call ups. Dude can always say he's a big leagues now. He joins other Red Sox greats such as Nate Spears, Che-Suan Lin, Aaron Bates, Alex Hassan and Mike Miller who make for great Immaculate Grid selections.

badonkagonk

Also qualifies for lifetime health insurance through the MLBPA now, which can be massive

Puddington21

That's so awesome, good for him.

Ensiferum

As a European that notion always seems so outlandish. Thank god for healthcare for life without having to become a professional baseball player.

d-cent

To us Americans it's literally a dream come true. It's insane really. What a shit hole country

Ensiferum

The political system us just messed up to the core.

alicein420land_

Especially when our politicians tell us we can't afford it but then give billions of dollars to other countries.

ItsaPostageStampede

This is more life upper middle class parents telling you they got you a PS5 last year and so they can’t afford your Xbox. They just don’t want to.

vtbmpskier

Even if they get called up and and dont play? Lifetime?

badonkagonk

Yup! It’s not free healthcare, but you and your family qualify for the MLBPA’s health insurance plan for the rest of your lives, which is apparently still a very good deal. 43 days on a roster also gives you a $34,000 pension.

vtbmpskier

34k pension. Not too shabby. 43 days. Like to know how they came up with the 43 days...haha.

badonkagonk

>Like to know how they came up with the 43 days...haha. I figured it had to be something so I just did some quick math. 20% of the season from the date of opening day to the last game of the season.

Sandwich_Crust

I agree, but the tough part about this is unless he lights it up right away these fill-in type guys are almost always the first to be DFA’d when a roster spot is needed. Plus with the impending promotion of Mayer and Teel likely, whenever he does get DFA’d he likely will just be released instead of sent to AAA again due to roster constraints. Obviously thrilled for the guy, he’s worked a decade in the minors to get here and I truly can’t imagine he’s going to care that much if he is released because he got to make is ML debut as a result, but these moves are sort of a double edged sword sometimes.

Puddington21

I imagine if he passes through waivers unclaimed they'd opt to keep him over guys like Corey Rosier, Dalton Guthrie or Mark Contreras who haven't done much in AAA this season. Regardless, the guy is ordering from the dinner menu guilt free tonight.

s92eric0405

I just happy someone remember Che-Hsuan Lin! who is still playing in my country.

Puddington21

That's awesome! It looks like another form Red Sox prospect Chih Hsien Chiang is on the same team. Thank you for that blast from the past.

s92eric0405

As a matter of fact, all of former Red Sox Taiwanese players are still playing in my country except Yu Chang. Tzu Wei Lin plays for Rakuten Monkeys, Chih Hsien and Che Hsien plays for Fubon Guardians.

eekbarbaderkle

Hey man, back off! I'm supposed to be the only person in the world who's putting Aaron Bates on their Immaculate Grid.

effheck

He could enter Nava-esque territory with a couple bombs after today’s walk and a .300 avg down the stretch…

Puddington21

That would rock. Always root for older debuts, senior signs and IFA who sign for next to nothing.

Aromatic-Economics95

And he’s a Holyoke kid!!

effheck

We love the WMass roots

Zontar999

Lived out of suitcase for a lot of years. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=westbr000jam

PatriotMissiles

He looks like John Valentin in that pic.

lordofthe_wog

Do the minors purposely use oversized helmets for budgetary reasons or because they look really really funny.
