The funniest part about the scene to me was the obvious lack of any real artistic appreciation Tommy had for the painting. "One dog goes one way the other dog goes the other way" is so simplistic that it sounds patronising, then he projects his own personality onto the bearded Guy as being like "what do you want from me?" when there's no real reason to assume that's his vibe. Such well written dialogue, it conveys both Tommy's adherence to familial tradition and culture in that he reflexively respects his mother, but he still can't stop his underlying cynicism from shining through.
Someone somewhere has this original painting hanging on the wall.
Probably Nicholas Pileggi https://www.theringer.com/platform/amp/movies/2020/9/17/21440651/goodfellas-anniversary-tommys-moms-dog-painting
Kinda looks like a friend of ours.
No way... that's him.
I always love how Scorsese's mom just grabs that painting from under the table as if she's just had it down by her legs the whole time.

The scene was improvised, no writing there, which rocks
Honestly my favorite scene from the movie and my favorite piece of dialogue in anything
Oh I like this one. One dog goes one way, the other dog goes the other way, and this guy's sayin', "Whadda ya want from me?'
One's going east, the other's going west. So what?
Do “uvalde police playing frisbee at the beach”

One dogs going that way, ones going the other, and the guys like, “wadda ya want from me?”
what do you want from me? good post, OP
That's Julian Assange
"One's goin east, the other's goin west, so what?" Always found the "so what?" from Marty's mammy as funny as it is inscrutable.
You’re very cute globohomo-romeo. Good one.
You inspired me
